    Thanks, I recently had to rebuild 2 hydraulic cylinders on my Bobcat. I knew nothing about them. I knew I did not want to pay someone else to do it. A lot of trial and error. Moving at the speed of a Sloth. I got it. Thanks again. I have learned that you are a master. One willing to share. Priceless.

    Well done, thanks for sharing the knowledge. Im restoring a john deere 440 dozer and just finished rebuilding two of the cylinders, I ended up welding 1 inch stock to my welding table and beating the heck out of them to get the pistons out. Went back together smoothly. Im a retired engineer and Im running a service truck working on heavies here and there as well as saving old equipment to use on my homestead /little farm.
    Im always impressed with the simplicity and quality of these old machines, nothing is make like them anymore. I wasnt surprised to work on another late model Cat where the eyes were torn from the cylinders. Upon inspection of the welds, I found them rife with undercut and lack of penetration throughout. This is found on 4 or 5 year old machines with factory welds. After talking with other owners, as well as a friend of mine who owns a successful fab, they say thats not uncommon for all these new machines.

    I usually try try the break it free while its still on the equipment, that way its already loose when you take the cylinder off. Sometimes there is no room to do this.

    It's cool to see that everything is threaded like you expect it to be. Righty tighty Lefty Loosey. Sometimes it gives you pause when you're on the reef and you're, like, "Am I turning this the right way?"

    It’s obvious that the hydraulic cylinder was damaged, but I was left wondering what exactly it was you fixed. Were there seals that needed replacing? I felt the video started off strong but left me hanging for the final repair. I loved how you made the gland obey with the cheeter pipe!!!! Leverage baby.

    • @frankdeegan8974
      @frankdeegan8974 4 года назад +3

      you might run into a cylinder that is thin walled and tight too that chain will put even force around the pipe but you do not want to deform the cylinder in ant way shape or form holding the cylinder at the pin is the only way, your shop your rules!

    Those ram nuts should be put on with red thread lock. It often takes high heat to get them off. The hydraulic shop may have a very high torque rig for breaking them loose. I rebuild most of the cylinders on my Case 450 loader backhoe.

      @@EEJester1586 Always use the machine first to hold the ram even if you have to drop the pin out from another ram to use its mounting. Taking a ram away from site just cost the customer time and more money. If you have to take it back to the workshop, stick it in a press to hold it. If you have a decent 1 inch thick bench. Plasma 2 holes in it and chain through the ram eye. Use old conveyor rubber to protect the inner surfaces, or what i have done out on a Cattle Station on a PC1600 main boom cylinder was to use a 18 wheeler flat deck trailer, cut small holes in the deck and run the chain around the main chassis rail, then used a hydraulic torque multiplier to crack the main nut. Many ways. IMHO cracking a ram head is better off done with a long sturdy bit of pipe rather than a breaker bar as they flex too much. Enjoyed your vid. Keep them coming. Cheers.
