    When you think of Belgium, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
    Let me guess: Waffles? Chocolate? or beer?
    We know them for these things, but as you’re about to find out, there is so much more to food here in Belgium.
    Join us at a restaurant called Boury. It’s located in Roeselare, Belgium.
    The owner and executive chef is Tim Boury. Soon after opening Boury, the awards came flooding in. Within a year, they had the first michelin star.
    In 2017, they received their second Michelin star, and in 2022, they added a cherry on top - the third and final Michelin star.

      @@dirkbulinckx9974 ah that's interesting to hear. As someone who never has (and likely never will) dined at restaurants like this, the fairy-tale service, food, and environment, set my expectation to that of royal hospitality for every customer. So essentially most people don't get a course delivered by the head chef, or visits to the kitchen? Strange that even at this level of luxury there is a distinction between the haves and have-nots.

    • @dirkbulinckx9974
      @dirkbulinckx9974 10 месяцев назад

      @@user-tm8ff8xf4w in a lot of the Michelin restaurants the chef will do "something", it could be delivering a course or explaining the menu or asking at the end how it was. After around 30 Michelin restaurants (mix of 1/2/3-stars) I had once the maitre that showed the kitchen and explained some parts of it (that was in the 1-star Lido84). In Hisa-Franko (2-star when I went - 3 stars a few days later) we had a chat with Ana (the "official" chef) when we arrived at the hotel part of Hisa Franko, and with the actual chef when we left the hotel. Often in the 3 stars the "official" chef is not even in the restaurant/kitchen. For example if you take all the "Robuchon" restaurants (ranging from 1 to 3 stars) the named-chef (Robuchon) is even dead, and the name of the actual chef is less known.
      My experience is that in a 1-star restaurant you can get top food and a top experience IF the owners are still part of the actual staff. When selecting the restaurant(s) were I go, I do try to find these.

    Alexander, I have to say, of all the videos I have watched from you at some truly amazing restaurants, I absolutely LOVE this one! Everything was so nice! Beautiful too. So much incredible “eye candy”. The garden outside was so nice. Loved the pure design of that one area where they prepared things. It had an angular metal overhang. So cool. Then the service looked absolutely impeccable! They were friendly too. Not snobby. The food looks SO perfect! I mean every dish they served you was to absolute perfection! Works of individual art! Really! So detailed. So amazingly beautiful. It’s sad in a way to have to destroy those works of art with your fork/spoon! I will absolutely make a note of this restaurant! Thank you! So I looked up all of the rest that were shown: The Crystallum Chardonnay can found for 18€. The Bonny Doon rosé is ~25€ for the current vintage. The Mas d'en Gil is 20€. The Orvieto is 22€. The main course CdR, which is also village level, can be found for 17€. (Funnily enough the beer is also around 30€). Not to dunk on any of these, they are probably great wines, punching above their weight. I would be happy with any of these at home. And they were probably good matches for the dishes. But at a price point of a 130 for the pairing, I would expect one or two 1er or GC level wines in the mix.

    Thank you Alexander for putting Belgium on the map, and yes, Boury is probably the best choice you could make in our current offer of lovely fine dining places. Great you appreciated Tim and Inge, they are considered national gastronomic heroes! Great production value, you make us linger and Dream away.. #BelgiumProud

    I love your channel! You are scrupulously honest about your experience and I trust your evaluation. There is no decent food, let alone fine dining, in the Mexican fishing village where I live, so I carry on cooking at home -- and dine out vicariously through you. When I next go to Hungary, where I was born, I will certainly try to visit Restaurant 42 in Esztergom.

    omg he actually called the dish "something - kalamata olive"?? Dude i loved eating those, thankfully i used to live fairly close, and they were cheap af, haven't had them olives in a while though. firm but also soft, easy to eat, without any weird lumps and a great punch of vinegar. Great texture, if not for the heavy impact of vinegar, i could eat a whole plate of those lil things. They tasted so good i'd just grab some bread dip it on meat/salad juice or whatever and add an olive on it. Simple yet extremely tasty!

    I love Bonny Doon wines - very whimsical names - cigare in this case refers to flying saucers, which the French call "cigars".

    Among all three-star restaurants I visited, Memories (Bad Ragaz, Switzerland) is perhaps the most memorable one. Strongly recommend it.

    A fabulous meal! Marvelous and astonishing! There wasn’t a single dish that I didn’t want to pop into my mouth and savor luxuriantly, either absorbing the liquids, chewing the meats, oh that petit squid, just Oh My Goodness from the first nibble to the last cherry, the last cheesy nibble! You’re killing me, Alexander. THIS TIME I even wanted to drink the wines! (And you know my opinion on THAT!

    I have been here and can definitely recommended it. The price is very doable considering its a 3-star place. I've also been to Hof van Cleve (hope you'll pay that a visit as well before the current chef retires, considering his resumé) and I would say its a smidge better but that's very on the details. Boury definitely takes the cake when it comes to the setting though.
