Love it how the monster thinks "two of my friends just got brutally killed. I should get out of here." Then it sees you and decides it'd rather run to its death than face you. Not that I blame him, but damn. Also, gotta love that Moonwalker scream on the leapers.
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays I am trying to remember an old game on pc where u play as a robot that for some reason crashes into a planet and looses all its abilities like running and jumping but can find parts
Very cool game and effects for the time. I like how they wove horror themes from movies in here. Evil Ded, The Thing, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc.
Amazing. This game is nearly impossible as the monsters patterns are not initially obvious but learnable after a many tries. I got past this as a kid but it was nothing as impressive as this speed run.
First game was an absolute tour de force of art, and story-telling for the time. Consider the stage after Jennifer fades to mist in your arms, when you're in Rick's subconscious fighting off little embryonic-looking things that emerge from sacs of fluid and then beat the shit out of a heart at the end is a great piece of symbolism to capture Rick's grief at losing his love. Once you beat the stage it gets even better because now the whole forest is on fire, implying that while you were deep in Rick's mind processing his grief, he was going mad with it and setting the trees alight.
First off? That wasn't a heart Rick was punching, second.. the destruction of said organ "killed" that particular possessed house on the west estate, the collapsing of the house and subsequent damage to the systems (either electrical or more likely gas) is what set it ablaze. We've still yet to get the final word on what came out of the mask at the very end.. was it the spirit of Dr. West or something altogether more sinister.. but? The second game takes place on/ in the ruins of the old west house and the lakeside manor. The third is the Master regenerating the first house.
Wow, what a skilled playthrough! You are indeed a "Game Master" for beating this on the highest difficulty. Always a joy to watch people play through the _Splatterhouse_ games, which hold a special place in my heart.
The controls to this game are absolutely abysmal so yeah, it actually is a pretty amazing feat that they were able to beat this game on the highest difficulty. It must have been a real pain in the ass.
A game that shouldn't be this good but it's actually fucking good. You can see how much work was put into it just by the fact that they worked their ass off to make this kickass sprite artwork actually render in such limited hardware. Insane props to this game!
Wow, this was new kill for me @ 17:05! I always punched the creature and it fell to the floor and head was "liquidorised". Very well played and thanks for the memories!
It's very cool the devs included this. For me, it was the other way around - I always saved the potassium bomb to kill the guy, but I never realised you could just punch his face off! 😁
if I was 4 or 5 years old now, this game would have been the most scary game for me, most probably - even scarier than 'Prince of Persia' or 'Interrupt'
Excellent playthrough loved every minute of it ! Using the chemical bomb to kill D West was new to me , totally cool ! If you like splatterhouse have a listen to my music covers/inspired tracks on my channel, splatterhouse music is one of my niche specialties ! GOOD LUCK RICK !
This game was surprisingly thoughtful in the way it handled such dark and gory material, at least for a Genesis game. There's an almost Hieronymus Bosch-quality to the graphics. Like the devs are inviting you to partake in the obscene spectacle of it all. I always loved it as a kid but then, I think that was probably just my juvenile tendencies acting out more than anything.
Guest starring the talents of Christopher Walken as 'The mask's voice', Kane hodder as 'Rick', Anthony Hopkins as 'the doctor', Arnold Vosloo as 'the evil one's voice', and Jessica Alba as 'Jennifer'. (just kidding!)
Splatterhouse probably has to be one of the most creepiest horror game series sega/Namco has ever created , and don't even get me started on splatterhouse 3
and the music kicks ass too. and the fact that the blue - the Evil One giant actully comes back as a semi-final boss in Splatterhouse 3, confiriming that the mask manipulated Rick to cause the Evil One to invade the real world. pretty great stuff for a 30 year old arcadey game
Since The Events Of The First Game Rick Has Lost Her Girlfriend Jennifer,Who Echoes Her Voice Crying & screams For Help The Terror Mask's Evil Voice Echoes to need Him to Rescue Her kidnapped Girlfriend Going On The Deadly Demonic Road to The Haunted Mansión Of The *Splatterhouse™*
So, in fact, the mask just helped Rick without asking anything in return? No any plans to kill Rick or world domination? The mask is a nice -guy- thing here?
I believe it was because the first one was an arcade game. But when they brought it to consoles, they toned down the difficulty as killing the player over and over wasn't going to get them more quarters.
@@frozenburst6463 the Sega follow up was freaking amazing. Made my childhood when I finally completed it haha. They don't make em like they used to haha

It's one of the best scenes in the game - you're such a badass that the zombies prefer being gutted by the boss than face Rick.

It makes the horror work too. These are already inhuman monsters, and you can tell they're afraid of whatever is off-screen, used to work pretty well.

SEGA Genesis had the best side scrollers
SEGA was so underrated.

Good games sure, but nah Mario and DK mog genesis titles alone.
Comix zone...one of the best
I would hope so since pretty much every game on it was a side scroller…
