    I've been doing some maths on this one, because I was curious. Smithers said she'd been there for 75 hours. A rough timing on the clip shows she was pulling the lever on that bandit every two seconds. 75 hours is 270,000 seconds and, assuming she kept up that rate, that is 135,000 turns on the machine. Each turn costs a quarter, so she spent $33,750 in that time. And she only won sixty dollars.
    Gambling is a mugs game.

      Where'd she get that much money

    • @thomasb.5643
      @thomasb.5643 3 года назад +133

      Well, since you win back some of the money, you don't actually spend $33,750, you need to take into account the difference between losses and winings. Tipically the slot machines have a return between 90 and 95% for 1 dollar. At the end it's quite impressive that she even won sixty dollars, with such an amount of turns it'd be almost a given that she'd be down by thousands of dollars.

    I've counted at least three times now including this episode where homer has pointed a gun directly at Marge's face.

    Lisa and Ralph got an award for not getting help with their costume.
    Ralph had just had a piece of paper labeled "IDAHO", Lisa went with what you saw.
    Lisa should not have gotten any award since she got help.

      The joke is, is that Lisa's costume was so bad they thought she made it herself

    I love how the shotgun goes off when he throws it. Something about the timing of that joke is so perfect.

    The good old early days of the simpsons! Homer was a dumb but well meaning father figure instead of an asshole man child, Lisa and Bart behaved like actual children, and marge was a character with flaws and personality instead of just always being the straight man to Homer’s antics

    This whole episode proves how much Homer loves his kids, and how far he's willing to go for them as a father.
