The best thing you can do is stop underplaying the reality of the situation, I'm not saying you are to be an extremist but instead be real about the situation and not allow the folks who look to you to have a false sense of security then not be prepared for what's to come in SA. Just look at the steady decline of the country and the steady decay of relations between SA peoples and that should direct you. This was the craziest thing I ever experienced in my entire 39 years of life. You always see stuff like like this on the news and hear stories from your parents. Waking up, drawing your curtains and watching that chemical warehouse burn with an army helicopter flying through the smoke was surreal.
It was crazy! Feels even more unreal as everyone is moving on and back to work etc It was a really traumatic experience for everyone who went through it, we hope you’re ok?!
It was truly devastating. Those emotional feelings stirred up again while watching this. You took brilliant footage. It's such a pity that I only discovered your awesome channel yesterday, which is when I also subscribed.
Hi Garnett Thanks so much for watching and welcome to our channel 👋😁 Still can’t believe that this happened in KZN, so many businesses and people are still suffering from the after effects 😞 Where are you from?
Only watching this, video now in 2024. The magnitude of the damage is, shown clearly here in your video. Thanks for recording it for historical purposes too. Well done.
Thank you for showing this. Staggering the scale of the destruction. And I know it's not confined to Durban. I have relatives in the area still and couldn't believe what they were telling us on the App. My father used to work at Coronation Brick and Tile, many decades ago, before it became Corobrick. And this is not the first time rioting and looting occurred their. I recall twice he was sent home from work because of unrest in the area. And I recall Indians being specifically targeted back then as well. However it was nothing like on this scale. So sad to see.
I love this couple and the contribution they bring within the kzn community God Bless yall. .pure genuine people . They done blame US BLACKS! For our stupidity instead they showing Love to our people. God Bless you.
Thanking you both for sharing from your point of view which is so sadly missed by the media which here in Scotland we hear very little apart from updates from family and friends in both Joberg. and Cape town. South Africa is my second home and will always have a special place in my Heart God bless S.Z keep safe 😎
Thanks so much for watching! We heard that international news didn’t really show much of what was going on, this was part of our motivation for making this video. We hope your families are doing well here in SA, luckily they weren’t in KZN during the unrest 🙏
@@BeingBedingfield Hi to you both no my family and friends are mostly either Cape town or Joberg but still not much coverage. especially from the BBC which is biased and government controlled. please keep safe and I wish you both well. 👍😎

Thanks guys! That’s the worst part, our own people doing this to our beautiful province! Really glad that we could end the video in a positive manner, I was in tears making this video and needed a pick me up 🙈
I have been following the heartbreaking developments by messages and videos from my friends in Ballito and Underberg. Also on Twitter there's been alot of footage but not so much in the dutch MSM because we have had our own challenges and huge problems last week with devastating floods. My heart cries for South Africa and your video has made me cry again but the powerfull ending is wonderfull. We have an awesome God who unites, not devides. Keep strong and stay safe!! 🤝❤💪🇿🇦

We saw a little bit of that on social media, we hope that you and your friends and family have kept safe 💛 Yes, God does unite and the overall response so far has been one of unity, with communities coming together to rebuild. So we definitely have hope 🙏💛🇿🇦 Keep safe!
What a great video. Made me so sad to see KZN in this state. Nandi drive is close to where my family live. KZN will always be home even though we immigrated to Perth, Aus over 20 years ago. Thanks for sharing… just subbed 🙏🏼

I drove through Springfield, the Monday after the protests. I was almost in tears. I can’t imagine what those owners and employees who lost their jobs and place of work are going through.😢
It felt quite unreal driving through Springfield, I think it holds a special place in most Durbanites hearts, everyone had their favourite factory shop there. Truly heartbreaking for the owners and all the people who don’t have jobs there anymore :(
Wow that seems like such a difficult time to live through and also so sad for all of the businesses and people who lost their work because of it. I hope that the community comes together and rebuilds stronger than before. It wasn't covered very much here in Canadian news so thanks for sharing even though I'm sure it was very difficult for you to make.
Just came across this video as a new subscriber and fellow Durbanite, it saddens me that 3 months later we are still trying to rise from the ashes. Some businesses will never reopen as this disaster was too financially devastating, first Covid then this. Some of these businesses have been in operation for generations. 💔 On a positive note, enjoying your travel videos, particulary of Durban, our beautiful city and South Africa.
Thanks Devi! Yes, the aftermath of all of this is devastating and can’t believe how some people will never recover from what happened 😔 Thanks for the feedback on our travel videos though 😊
Ballito provides employment to all races , white black Indians and coloureds. Our beautiful town was saved from barbaric looters who don't care and respect the laws of SOUTH AFRICA. Private security and the kwaduguza protection service, saps and the common people of ballito saved the town from destruction.
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” - Fred Rogers May South Africa be filled with helpers. And may a just peace find its way there.
That is so sweet! That’s been the only positive coming out of this situation...people have been so helpful and really pulled together during this time.
#proudlysouthafrican....we WILL rebuild....Good always conquers evil ...a very gutted and heartbreaking experience...😭😭😭BUT a promising and positive ending....🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thanks for this report, lovely people Craig and Chantz! An opportunity to take a calm look at some of the results of the recent lunacy, without the mainstream media frenzy overlay, seen in many previous reports while the frenzy was playing out!
Thanks for sharing the video with us...... its so sad to see what people have done to their very own places and cities... only if we as human beings can realize that there are so many ways of solving problems than acting like animals.
That looks like the N3 we use to go down it to Durban when we where kids growing up in equally looted Pietermaritzburg. We later moved to Newcastle in northern Natal but I haven't heard how that fared.
To think that these people did this for a man who is arrested for corrupting this country. Our brothers and sisters are possessed. Thank God there are people who still have hope
Used to go for holidays in Durban. Was so wonderful. Left SA 16y ago. So happy we have left. The last year we were there we feared for our lives every day. People around us were attacked and some brutally murdered. We have not regretted our decision for even a second.
Heart wrenching to watch this video that people can be so destructive in today’s advancement you would think brains and common sense would have prevailed. Education from government to the last man in South Africa is much needed. 27 years later no excuse.
Absolutely sad to see Dbn in this state! Hard work to establish businesses & employment took many yrs no doubt...but destroyed in a matter of hours .! Thank you to all who helped clean up🙏♥🇿🇦
Man.dela Effect. Thanks to Nelson and Winnie as I see it. How Communism destroys! And how stupid we must be to have let things devolve to this tragic point. Blessings and healing to all South Africans of good will.
Thanks for taking the trouble to show the terrible devastation that has been wrought in Durban and surrounding areas. The business community must be in the depths of despair. Most of these places were quite new and giving jobs to thousands of people, now they have no jobs. The perpetrators must be arrested and incarcerated on Robben Island together with Zuma for treason.
I believe by the grace of God it will be built up again as you pictured growing up.. As a young boy i will pray for you and your kids and all extend family members... Amen 🙏🙏🙏
I have had the opportunity to visit SA a few times. It is a remarkable place. This destruction is tragic. Those who struggle every day to earn a living will be hurt most by this madness. I am glad to see people working to clean up. I am praying for your country.
The ones that burnt the Country to the ground are just misunderstood. All of you come together like good little brothers and sisters to work together. The Country will be straighten out in a couple days all good.
South Africa will rise again, let's just stand together for our beautiful country. It's really sad seeing these videos, the way I wanted to tour KZN :(
You must still come visit KZN 🥺 please watch our other vlogs to see what KZN is like normally 💛 I know it’s going to take time to rebuild, so just give it a while and then come and tour through our province x
Whilst I appreciate the feel good factor of the video, the reality is that self destruction has become the identity of South Africa. The only way this turns into a positive is if the underlying issues of corruption and lack of accountability is addressed. Personally I see it as a city was almost brought to its knees due to the resistance towards accountability. We are already seen the narrative switch to finding those who defended themselves rather than really addressing the key issues
Thank you so much for the video. I have family in Durban. What lovely weather but the mindset of the people involved in the looting, riots and unrest is unacceptable. Justice delayed justice denied.
Oh wow... i just saw where you said "the toxic smell even reached us in Westbrook on Tuesday night." I lived in Maidstone Village for a few years..(my husband at the time worked as a Director (?) at David Whitehead & Sons) I also lived in Westbrook itself. Then we moved to WeWe Sugar Estate opposite the turnoff to the Dudley Pringle dam. I miss SA soooo much.
This is what has been happening in other parts of Africa. Never expected such anarchy to occur in Durban but it was bound to happen with factions in the leadership. Good to see people cleaning up the place. Stay safe and praying for recovery. Many South Africans have left SA.
I visited South Africa 2 years ago. Such an amazingly beautiful country with so much potential to be even better. But unless chronic poverty is eradicated, it's hard to see how as society SA can progress. I was shocked to see people living in shacks, drug addicts everywhere and so many people begging for money. All within a stones throw of some of the most gorgeous scenary and landmarks. Wish you guys all the best.
@@chiyenyumba7135 What's taken generations to create, cannot be undone in a mere decade or two. Especially with chronic underinvestment in those communities. Unless the govt priorities the poor and turns them into assets, things won't change. I dare say in a few years times we'll be having the same conversation about mass looting.
@@sidkings shame the whites who were in power all those centuries took generations creating that inequality now its backfiring badly... They were blinded by hate of race now its all erupting.
@@chiyenyumba7135 I do see a pattern with Australian Aboriginal communities, North American native communities.. people who were screwed over for centuries, also happen to be the worst effected with drugs, unemployment, poor housing etc. Same in SA from my observations. Bottom line is, it's down to people to do what they can.. but unless there's government initiatives to take people out of that situation, nothing will change. The leaders have not done a good job since 94. In Bangladesh, the poverty level used to be around 50%. Today it's less than 18%. Factories started popping up everywhere, agriculture became more commercial etc.. while it's still a very very poor country, it's moving in the right direction. Current trajectory will put BD higher than SA by next year in terms of GDP growth. Even with lockdown. If one of the world's most corrupt and incompetent governments can improve the lives of its citizens I'm sure SA can too. Hold your leaders to account.
@@sidkings what exactly happened in 1994??? Not much that's meaningful because certain communities remained in chqeof the economy and means... SA needs real cooperation by everyone...otherwise everyone will lose. The people in government have no clue how to run the country because for centuries they were excluded. Remember these countries and governments are a western notion. All people who have a stake in SA have to come together in government and work for the country and its people. The mistake and mess apartheid can not be corrected by a mere change of racial representation in government. White South Africans need to be part of that government and work at creating a better SA. They know where the bolts and hinges are they need to be part of the clean up process.
I love our country, it's a small % of people who want to destroy, but the absolute love and joy on faces of all these people busy cleaning up is so inspiring, we have to stand together, all cultures, and remember, LOVE conquers all.
I'm from cape Town and have not see things like this happen just a lot of taxi violence... A little looting but we stand together as one and don't allow this to happen to our buetifull city... God bless each and every one that has started clearing blessed them abundantly amen and amen 🙏🙏🙏
Absolutely devastated watching from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦. Don’t regret immigrating in 1993 from South Africa to Canada because my late dad predicted this happening. He said after Mandela their will be no hope for the future generations. I still have my family in Durban and I feel their pain so very much. We are looking at death but helpless 😭😭😭😭😭
Very sad. I just left SA while that was happening. So hard to watch. I hope it gets better soon. At least I can see some people cleaning up. Wish we could all come together as a nation
it was hard not to appreciate your video and watch people come together truly hope South africa shall rise and be be better than what happened, a divided nation will fall but a people together will survive many adversities. This was the craziest thing I ever experienced in my entire 39 years of life. You always see stuff like like this on the news and hear stories from your parents. Waking up, drawing your curtains and watching that chemical warehouse burn with an army helicopter flying through the smoke was surreal.
It was crazy! Feels even more unreal as everyone is moving on and back to work etc
It was a really traumatic experience for everyone who went through it, we hope you’re ok?!
@@BeingBedingfield I'm good thanks, hope u well too. All you can do is keep moving forward, stay positive.
@@BradK02 yeah, exactly 😁🇿🇦
It was truly devastating. Those emotional feelings stirred up again while watching this. You took brilliant footage. It's such a pity that I only discovered your awesome channel yesterday, which is when I also subscribed.
Hi Garnett
Thanks so much for watching and welcome to our channel 👋😁
Still can’t believe that this happened in KZN, so many businesses and people are still suffering from the after effects 😞
Where are you from?
Thank God you guys are safe. What recently in our Country is just heart breaking 😭💔
Subscribed. Nice to see fellow South Africans making RUclips videos. Well done and keep it up.
Thanks so much, welcome to our channel 😁 let us know what type of content you’d like to see 😊
This is the only video I've seen that showed all the damaged areas, thank you !
Only watching this, video now in 2024.
The magnitude of the damage is, shown clearly here in your video. Thanks for recording it for historical purposes too.
Well done.
We haven’t watched this back in ages! It really was a hectic time in KZN, very scary!
We hope your relatives managed to keep safe, that area was hit really hard. Yes, there are many other areas that were really bad as well.
These looters must be very proud with their self's.
In a few months they will starve. Then reality kicks in.
I left Durban 20 years ago, your video made me cry tears of sorrow followed by tears of joy. Thank you, please post more.
Thanks so much for watching! Really hope we can rebuild soon
Self-destructing how do you expect to survive if you burn down and loot everything that you need to survive
Force the looters to clean it up.
they are so stupid as they are going to starve now due to lack - even more!

This was so heartbreaking to see, it’s so sad that there are people out there that did this without a care or thought for the community.
Well done for showing this, the ending is so positive and happy too, we hope Durban can recover to it’s former glory soon🤗
Hi Thamar...were you effected by the floods? We saw a little bit of that on social media, we hope that you and your friends and family have kept safe 💛
Yes, God does unite and the overall response so far has been one of unity, with communities coming together to rebuild. So we definitely have hope 🙏💛🇿🇦
Keep safe!
What a great video. Made me so sad to see KZN in this state. Nandi drive is close to where my family live. KZN will always be home even though we immigrated to Perth, Aus over 20 years ago.

Thanku for that video of our once beautiful country and we know that it will all come back even more beautiful.
I'm getting myself full of anger about Zuma and his ANC these people costed us in corruption and influence 💔😌
Agree it is so sad, People was spoiled by the ANC,
It was not only individuals in the ANC but also other political parties with their own hidden agendas.
South Africans lost a lot of face value
I still think that this was never ever about Zuma .His name was used to Trigger this violence and crime ,that just my opinion 🤞

Truly heartbreaking for the owners and all the people who don’t have jobs there anymore :(
Thankyou for showing this video. So sad but the underlying spirit of good South Africans always rises to the surface.

Wow that seems like such a difficult time to live through and also so sad for all of the businesses and people who lost their work because of it. We appreciate this video. It is very touching
Thanks so much for watching, not our normal type of video but we felt we had to make it 😬
Just came across this video as a new subscriber and fellow Durbanite, it saddens me that 3 months later we are still trying to rise from the ashes. Some businesses will never reopen as this disaster was too financially devastating, first Covid then this. Some of these businesses have been in operation for generations. 💔
On a positive note, enjoying your travel videos, particulary of Durban, our beautiful city and South Africa.
Thanks Devi! Yes, the aftermath of all of this is devastating and can’t believe how some people will never recover from what happened 😔
Thanks for the feedback on our travel videos though 😊
Ballito provides employment to
all races , white black Indians and coloureds.
Our beautiful town was saved from barbaric looters who don't care and respect the laws of

Private security and the kwaduguza protection service, saps and the common people of ballito saved the town from destruction.
Well done,be safe .
The Good People saved their town !!!bravo and much respect !

This brought me to tears. I was born in Durban. Some of my fondest memories are from that city....and I lived in many places in this world.

This was sad to see. I grew up in Durban and moved to Gauteng 20 years ago. Great video.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you to all who helped clean up🙏♥🇿🇦
People have been amazing in coming together and cleaning up! 🇿🇦
Seeing this makes me cold i watched this place getting developed as young boy

@@aphiwemagaya3279
It certainly is beautiful. The weather in Durban is second to none.
Yup, the witch hunt s about to start.
So much for unbuntu.
Sad. Thank you for the video..
Thank you so much for the video. I have family in Durban. What lovely weather but the mindset of the people involved in the looting, riots and unrest is unacceptable. Justice delayed justice denied.
We hope your family kept safe during the riots 🙏
What were they thinking these people? That is if they had any grey matter to think with. I left KZN 20 years ago. This really saddens me.
They didn't have any in the first place

I lived in Maidstone Village for a few years..(my husband at the time worked as a Director (?) at David Whitehead & Sons) I also lived in Westbrook itself.
Which parts of Africa?
Very heart breaking. Thank you for your video.

Inequality in SA is, shocking people left behind in centuries of oppression
