- Logging truck bombing down NC hwy 221. This particular stretch of 221 has a very long, steep and winding incline. I was behind him for about 5 minutes at a snails pace prior to taking this video until he kindly moved over when given the opportunity to let the line of cars behind him pass. Decided to pull off at the first safe opportunity and attempt at getting a video of his engine brake. My little baby 3 liter v6 doesnt make near the noise that massive inline 6 does going down hills :(
i love the sound of a jake brake
As an owner op I must commend him and his mechanic because with that weight and up against the jakes like that it isn't the easiest on a truck, especially if this is how you work it daily.
I'll agree to that. Jakes are not meant to be used the way that he is. Don't rely on a jake to put fully at the bottom. You can assist it, but don't rely on it.
That was loud...my whole house was shaking
If you look closely, you can see the truck is torquing in the opposite direction with the Jakes on.
Noticed that too. Insane.
Why does it do that? Don't know much about big rigs and Jakes but I thought their function was to drain off power. Why would it be lifting other side? Thx
@@stever.747 TL:DR is basically the Jake brake changes the valve timing so the engine compresses air and then the pressure is released before it can push the piston back down. Makes the engine do work for no energy in return since there's no explosion.
The chassis twists like that because the engine creates a torque on one end of the chassis and the axles resist that torque at the other end of the chassis. The twist is reversed from what it would normally be under acceleration because the engine is resisting turning instead of causing it.
I don't understand, what happened?
And you don't have to look closely to see some needs a tripod ha
Sounds like N-14 celect plus 🔥🔥
Never seen a log trailer like that. Honestly looks like a center mount with no a frame
Normally they load them with trees that are long enough to go from end to end, therefore hold themselves in the trailer and have no need for center supports. They're designed like that to save weight, the less your trailer weighs the more you can legally put in it. This is a pretty busy logging area with tall healthy trees...see these a lot here, normally being used properly!
@@ElectricSwordfish wait so why do loggers leave them so long? We've always cut our logs to 16 feet as that's all the mills want
@@justinmochi7323 wish I knew the answer to that. It seems the only time I see the long logs it's on major highways...maybe it's a transport thing. You'd know better than me lol
They have that same trailer loaded the same way in the American Truck Simulator game from Steam.
My dad has one like that he drives it still
Coming down as you should, Loud and Proud
Knows what he's doing my friend.
Sounds good, he needs to be hugging the white line more.
Why? As long as everyone stays in their own lanes, there is no issue.
@@tinobino4450 Because it's a good practice just in case they dont stay in their own lane like him. He is hugging the center line, not good!
Beautiful sound!!!!
very nice to see, best regards, good luck
Nothing but Jake Brake
Trumpets of the apocalypse!
That's a 3406E jakes I think
I understand why some people dislike the sound, these are loud as hell. But it's safer than not using it :(
nice! i love the videos! i hav a new video out now tooo!
sounds like fucking music to my ears
Hate that the video is so shaky. I had my phone zoomed in to 1.5x because the the base setting on the camera is super zoomed out with a very wide field of view, a little too much in my opinion. I know zooming makes cameras more sensitive to movement plus it was on the cooler side and I was probably shaking a little bit lol. Wish there was a way to fix the shaking.
what phone were you filming with
@@demarcuscousinsthe65th Samsung A03s
@@ElectricSwordfish ok thank you
video was shaking like my dogs tail 🤣
Sweet music!
Workin!
👍
That's a good way to blow an engine at least a head gasket lol I've seen it the Push Rods were bent like pretzels lol
Final destination distance everyone keeping
Those dead leg trailers are pain the A$$ hooking up in the winter or if you have a low truck.
Looks like an old JEWELL truck from VT
Yea the truckers orchestra
😊
Whether it is Detroit Diesel two stroke serii 92?
Lovely
DAVE WHITESIDES! The 🐐
I kept looking up looking for the helicopter xd
Just wondering why they still make those vintage brakes...
European counterparts are 100 % silent, you cant notice any noise at all
It's just un muffled. New trucks for the past decade or so have them muffled from factory, completely silent but a lot of truckers will delete the mufflers because they like the sound. Plus they're effective and cheaper than Retarders which to my understanding are very popular in Europe.
There are silent engine brakes in America too but my monkey brain doesn’t receive stimulation without the loud noise
We have less regulation on exhaust systems then Europe. Some states don’t require emissions like my beloved Alaska, so truck can have no emissions systems at all, this really loud. But places like commiefornia you have to have emissions and brakes will be quiet there. Just depends on age of truck and state emission regulations. Hope that helped.
Hi Buddy, I am in the panhandle 👍
The truck has straight pipes instead of a regular muffler for fun, that’s why it’s so loud 😄 , they don’t sound like this when they’re brand new from the factory
I live right next to the hill and It's stupid loud
Ex-Werner Pete
👍😄👍💯👍
gosh that was loud!! were they going downhill or was he just showing off his engine brake
It was downhill...a very steep downhill grade as well! Video doesn't do it justice but every time I go down this road in my car I'm in 1st the entire way down.
@@ElectricSwordfish Ok well i feel like he could have just used his compression brake
@@dbdmountainlion9459 and run out of air?😂 He’s loaded pretty heavy and going downhill hill! I “feel” like you don’t know anything about air brakes.
@@dbdmountainlion9459 yeah then he ends up off the side of the hill dead
This makes me happy to drive a european truck with retarder....
Nice! What kind of truck you drive?
@@ElectricSwordfish I've driven all european brands, but prefer Mercedes-Benz
@Stigandr Mýrardalur Nice, my favorite European truck brand is DAF. This is just based on their looks lol. Why do you prefer Mercedes? Only commercial vehicles they sell in the US are a line of commercial cargo vans (known as the Sprinter in the US) and the Unimog.
@@ElectricSwordfish l can't say anything negative about neither DAF nor MAN. I've driven both, and they're fantastic vehicles.
Sounds good. But need a pacar engine with a automatic. Never have to touch the brakes. Lol
STEVE 5
Sound like a helicopter
STEVE1
Pulled over for RUclips clout. Nice bro.
Pero baja miy lento.
Detroit?
Wish I knew
@@ElectricSwordfish Sounds like a 6NZ jakes
Know this is a random question, but were you in G+ before it was shut down? Your username is very close to someone I used to be friends with.
@@ElectricSwordfish Um, no bro, I've never had a profile on G+, and this is the first time I've seen you in YT 😅
Rus istihbarati beni bulsun
Is this for fun? Uphill braking....
He was going downhill
You stupid bastard. The truck was going down a steep grade.
The engines sceeaming for too long, can't be uphill
JUST BE QUIET
engine braking uphill with a load, righto
Puro freno de motor, los troceros del asfalto
That's too much Jake Brake and ridiculous!!
What are you talking about he's going down a steep grade if he uses normal brakes he smokes them and crashes
Nope, service brakes aren't smoking. Driver's doing just fine.
