Hi everyone I am super excited to bring this 2 part pocket shawl free crochet tutorial/pattern for you today. It has been a bit of a wait but everything is brought together over a 2 part video. This project uses 5 balls of aran weight yarn and uses a basic stitch and a 3 row pattern repeat to give a beautiful shawl/scarf for you to wear in the winter months. This is part one so grab your yarn and your hook and start to crochet. Next week I will be uploading part 2 so don't go anywhere and join me next week to complete the shawl and add some much needed pockets to keep your hands warm. I go through each step slowly so beginners are very much welcome for this video and I will leave some links below for some even more broken down videos on some of the stitches I use to complete it.
Thank you all so much for watching I hope you enjoyed it and will be coming back next week to finish off your project. This is beautiful! I am using my Clover Amour crochet hooks for the first time. To be sure I didn't make my foundation chain too tight, I used a 5.5 and switched back to 5.0 to start my first row, and complete this gorgeous hooded scarf.
❤️❤️❤️ Great tutorial! Very well explained! Can’t wait to get started!
Ah thank you so much I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Good luck xx

So pretty work ❤❤
Hi there, new subscriber here😊 Just wanted to thank you for sharing such a beautiful pocket scarf pattern!!! I’m using red heart hygge yarn. It’s a bulky 5, very silky soft and fuzzy yarn so I had to adjust my foundation chain a bit but worked out great using an even number of chains. You did an amazing job explaining everything I didn’t have any trouble at all following along with you! Can’t wait to try some other projects of yours…thanks again!!!😊
Hi I'm so glad that you liked it. Your choice of yarn sounds perfect I'm sure you will get a beautiful snuggly shawl at the end of it. Thank you so much your kind comment has made my day I'm so glad that you could follow along. Happy crocheting xx

I made two of these as gifts for chrismas , I didn't get good feed back , they all said it looked like a scarf with pockets . They wanted it wider so in order to cover shoulders and arms I'm going to do the repeat at lest 8x.
Wow i will try it for sure. Thanks for showing us. It's Janice from Malta in the Mediterranean

Thank you and welcome I'm so glad that you liked it.

Two shades of grey
Very pretty. I like the stitching. Some of the other pocket shawls were rather plain. Nice job. Thanks! (Liked & subscribed).
Thank you so much I'm glad that you liked it. YAY new subscriber thank you. xx
HUGE hit! Get a soft yarn with a sheen on it to bring this pattern out.
I am slowly realizing how much I HATE using Caron simply soft for anything. Those bead stitch row? Yeah, CSS yarn comes across as so thin and slippery that that row looks like it's got a bunch of gaps in it as opposed to what YOUR row looks like. 🤓😭😞😞😡😡
It's a shiny yarn but is WAY too thin for this...and of course I had done all the first 5 row of DC when I realized after doing 1 10th of the bead stitch row that this yarn SUCKS for this project. 😭😭😭😞😞😞😡😡😡
It would be nicer if your camera was in better focus, looks like a lovely shawl but too hard to follow when the focus is so poor.
Hello! New subscriber here! Just found your channel. Thank you for sharing! Love this!
Aw thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Love your videos you make my first time crocheting so easy ! But I have curling! How do I fix this?
Very well explained!!! Thanks dear
Super bulky yarn - I have this #6 yarn that is so pretty and i would like to try to make this with it. ANy idea how much yarn I would need using this? I don't want to start it with this yarn if I don't have enough.
Pattern is is beautiful! I cant wait to make one. Thanks!!
I subscribed! I love it. Thank you for this tutorial. I’m excited to go get some yarn. How much yarn do you use?? Thanks again!!❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️

Good God what an amazing tutorial I love your explanation you are so patient. I subscribed cannot wait to start mine. God bless you 🙏 ❤
Thank you so much that means a lot I am glad that you enjoyed it. Good Luck. xx
The first 6 rows are a heck of a lot easier if you just use a half double crochet and work in the third loop
Thank you for letting me know I might try that for my next one. If you want to do it like that of course you can it is your shawl and should be done in the way you prefer.
How tall are you? This will help me to decide how many chains to do for myself. Lovely pattern. 💕
Very beautiful explain beautiful I want to do🙏🙏
Ah thank you so much.
These are British instructions so her treble stitch is USA double crochet
☺☺☺
I love this shawl however I’m having trouble with the back bar, it’s not as easy as you make it to look
Love this design made it several times different colors. Great gift. Put with hat and gloves.
can I use mercenarized yarn? or poly cotton?
This Canadian gal just completed pt 1 & looking forward to pt 2. Mine is turning out fabulous
Wow that's amazing so glad you are enjoying it. I love this pattern so so much. Good luck for part 2
Hi!! I am a the place where we are wrapping the dc. After I have completed the dc, I yarn over, go behind the dc, I yarn over before I go back in front of the DC, well the 'yarn over' doesn't hold, it becomes undone, I cannot complete the wrap. Mind you I have completed the wrap on 7 wraps on dc. Something is wrong, please help or you can give me an alternative to wrapping a dc. Please help!! I would like to finish.
I am making a gray pocket shawl
Would really like to see the pocket shawl modeled .
This so much. I wish they would put yarn weight, yardage and hook size in the description
Could you please show slowly how to DC in back bump
Use a half double and crochet into 3rd loop. Much easier
I don’t know if I’ll get a response, but I’m on row 9; the first dc - chain 1(US terms) row. I’ve completed the row and somehow lost a stitch. I don’t know what to do. The row before it has 262 stitches, but this row I can only get 261. Can you help me?
How much yarn use for this shawl?
❤️❤️ this pattern. I have a question. After I do the dc twice wrapped, when I get to the end and do the last dc/wrapped... the what? Do I do a dc at the top of that chain 4? I love you videos, but I would love to see more of how you end your rows. Sometimes when you say I’ll meet you at the end , you have already finished the row. I hate to mention this because I love your work., but when you have to rewind to see to remember what to do at the end it’s hard until you’ve done it a couple of times. Thank you for a great pattern!
Than you so much I really appreciate the feedback and will try to keep that in mind for the future. In answer to your question yes you do finish with a dc in the top of the chain 4 and you finish each row like that in order to get a nice straight edge. I hope that helps and I hope it didn't cause too many problems. Good luck.
@@hooks.andneedles1 thank you for getting back to me. Have a good and safe day🙂
I am almost done with your pocket scarf. Can you please let me know how many twice wrapped double rows there are? The part 2 dc section is not matching part 1 dc section. When you said in part 2, you should end on sc , is that on the right side or wrong side.
como traduzir esta receita para o portugues?
How many beads and how many bars are we to have? I'm having a hard time getting my edges straight. Thank you.
Ok I think I fixed the black out...what I wish. now, is that you might mention, the right side an wrong side of the work, it would be less confusing for me... I 've got all your beautiful stitches down...just think I got the right side n wrong side mixed up...Sorry...I can't wait to finish this shawl.
Thank you for letting me know I definitely can try to do that in the future. Thank you for watching I hope that you were able to finish
Hi there, I am a new subscriber and just found you here. Can you tell me where to find the written pattern for this pocket shawl? Your video is super helpful but I also like a written pattern to refer to as well. Your instructions are spot on. Thanks so much!
Hi thank you for subscribing. I'm sorry I don't have a written pattern to follow I only do video tutorials at the moment. xx
I am a beginner, so I’m watching the videos first, and pausing to write the pattern as I watch. Then I will go back and actually try to make the shawl by watching, and following the pattern I wrote down. Also makes it easier cuz then I can check off the row/instructions as I go along. also, it makes it clearer for me as I need the American stitches.
Beautiful!! I have a request for a shawl. This is a project I've never done before but and fairly experienced and excited to tackle it. I have 2 questions. First, how do you price the finished product? Second, about how long does one of these take you to finish? TIA!!! 🙂
Hi I'm glad that you liked it. I'm not sure I quite understand about the pricing I'm not selling the shawl so I think it is up to you how you price it. Secondly it takes me a few hours I think to complete each one I crochet in parts so I don't know for sure. Sorry I can't be of more help. XX
To price a project usually its 3x the cost of the yarn. Ref the length of time to make this shawl depends on how fast you crochet
Was watching again. Had to laugh cause you wrote the video was done for now and not to go anywhere so you won’t miss the next video in a weeks time. Did you literally mean we should stay in place? Lol!! Just kidding! I just thought it was cute. Still love this pattern!!
Love the pattern! Just one question, is the yarn a size 4 yarn?
Thank you so much yes it is size 4/ aran weight yarn.
I bought lion brand, pound of love. Should I use the size 6 mm, if so do I just chain any even # chains and how long in inches to make sure it’s not to long ?
@@marygunter9614 Oh yes if that is the recommended hook size for that yarn. You can chain any even number and the pattern will work out. I have put the measurements of the shawl in the description box if you want to check that out . I hope that helps. xx
@@hooks.andneedles1 yes, it did. Thank you
@@marygunter9614no problem I'm glad. xx
When I watch people do back bars they don't go in front like you do. Are their video s the same way. Its hard to see as kinda blurry. I like ur tutorial though
Como se llama esta puntada
ip uzunluğu kaç metre ve kaçtane zincirle başlanıyor şimdiden teşekkürler
How can I see the beginning of this shawl?
i’m
Estamos en Chile, y hablamos español....como traducir....la información????
Why is it called the back bar and it's in the front
Any ideas on what height this shall works for? I am 5'10" so I feel like I will keep to add some length.
I think the length should be find I'm around 5'10" too and the length was ok for me, but feel free to add a few chains if necessary. Thank you so much for watching.
How many meters on that ball?
Have you got a written pattern
Is it possible to download a written pattern? I have a friend of 83 who wants to make this but she doesn’t know how to follow on RUclips. Hope you can help me please.
How can I get a written pattern
I am doing my second one in red now but I am not going to do the pockets thus time
Wow that amazing I am so glad that you like it
I have never worked in the BACK BAR … is there a site where all parts of a crochet stitch are identified by “name”?
😍👌🌹
Is it one size fits all
Yes but if you do want to make it longer or smaller you can by just adapting the number of chains as long as they are still in the same multiple. Hope that helps have a go at different sizes and find what works for you.
I'm not understanding where the back bar is. It looks as if you're going into that front stitch
I'm not seeing where you're doing the back bar. I have no clue what you did, help
Hi, I know I'm sorry it is quite difficult to see. It is sometimes known as the third loop and it is at the back of the stitch. Don't worry though I think some people have used the half treble crochet and worked in the back loop only which gives the same effect so maybe try that and see if that works for you. If not you can always just work normal treble crochet. I hope that helps.
@@hooks.andneedles1 i just went into that loop that goes across under the top stitch if that makes sense, it looks pretty good so 👌 😊
I watched the bead stitch video as requested and there you only pull thru 6 and then pull thru the last to. Here you pull thru all 7 does it matter which way we do it?
No it doesn't matter either way you will end up with a stitch that you can work into for the next row. Thank you for watching. xx
How many Chains do I have to make for the length of the shawl?
It states 264 ch at the beginning of the video. She is 5'10" which she states is perfect for her height

Is this a 4 weight yarn. I'm trying to figure out how many yards that I need
Its 4 weight yarn, aran in the description 5, 100g balls aran
It's too bad, that you did not focused your crocheting. I love the pattern, will make it for sure. Try to focus your camera a little more. Thanks
Lovely pattern! But very blurry and hard to see stitch details.
Beginning just before the 10min mark you speak of doing double crochet but it appears you are doing single crochet. Can you clarify please? Thank you.
Hi yes I'm working in UK terminology so a double crochet in UK terms is a single crochet I US terms. I hope this helps.
kindly explain the weight of one ball yarn you are using.. here in Pakistan we have 1 ball of 100 grams so m a little bit confused about it that how many grams i have to use in total?
Hi sorry for the confusion. I used a total of 5 balls of 100g so you will need 500g in total. I hope that helps.
Can you tell me if there is a second part ? I can't seem to locate it
The second part is my next video. It is also a link in the description of this video. Hope you find it. Thank you for watching.
I've just gotten to the end of row 5 of the row repeat and somehow I've lost a stitch. Also, my shawl seems to be getting narrower as I work it. I'm following your instructions, I've watched this video twice start to finish and I've skipped to the part I'm working in a few times to make sure I'm doing it right. Please don't tell me I have to rip out 5 days (working at night only) of work and start again
This may not be helpful anymore since this was posted a month ago, but I also had this problem. I had to rip out 15 rows and count my stitches every single row. I’ve still dropped a stitch and I’m confused as to how. But you may just have to count your stitches constantly.
@@jennifercosta73 it helps to use stitch markers and to count over and over
Can you give the multiples i would need to make it in a different size please? Ty
I'm sorry I caught even number ..its beautiful 😍 ty for sharing
Oh no problem yes just an even number to start with. I'm glad you liked it.
