Hi Lindsey, I have watched a lot of tutorials for the pocket shawl and this is the best one! You're not jabbering about materials needed, you're not all over the place with explaining the stitches and what you're doing, you're giving details as you go along and you're not leaving anyone behind. For someone that cannot understand patterns, thank you. Thank you for having patience when it comes to explaining everything. I will be making this shawl!
That is wonderful and thank you for the kind words. I aim for a balance between being thorough and concise. Sometimes I get the balance wrong but I do try.
I am so happy that I saw your tutorial this morning....not too slow and not too fast! I just sent a granny shawl to my daughter-in-law and my son asked where is his shawl? Lol! So his comment planted the seed to search for a "man's" type shawl....and I think with the right yarn, yours would be perfect! My children are all basically working from home and a wrap is so much easier to put across your shoulders for a touch of warmth as the weather turns colder here on the east coast! Thank you for your "inspiration" ! Have a wonderful day!
You’re a very good teacher. Clear without being boring. Thank you so much for sharing. Am into my row 25. Going good and very excited to see my finished product. Thanks again
I've always just made blankets and scarves. This tutorial has actually given me the courage to venture out and make something else. The directions were clear and I was able to follow along clearly too. Thank you.
This is a well done video. The high contrast between the background and the project and the text makes it easy to see what you’re doing and your pacing is great. I am definitely going to make this. Thank you!
Thank you so much for including your pattern in the grouping of pocket shawls. I wasn't attracted to pocket shawls until I saw yours. I couldn't believe how relaxing it was, and I was so grateful for your instructions on how to modify to fit. Most of all, I'm glad I found you - I have subscribed to your channel! Again, a most beautiful pattern, and your video was perfect!! THANKS AGAIN!
This is one of the best crochet tutorials I've ever watched on RUclips! Perfectly clear and well paced. I can't wait to try this. Just off to order to wool. Thank you.
Of all the pocket shawls I've looked at and watched tutorials, your pattern is my most favorite. Am going to get my yarn I've already purchased for a pocket shawl, and I'm starting it tonight! Thank you so much. This one is so pretty, and your tutorial is easy to follow along.👍
Well done tutorial!!!! I’m going to take out a pocket shawl project that I started awhile back and make this one instead!!!! Thank you for sharing this!!💗🧶
I also have been looking for a pocket shawl tutorial and agree this is the best one that I have found. I was giving up all hope until yesterday when I found yours. I really want to make it for a Christmas present, if I can part with it. I think I will just have to make two. Now I am waiting for the yarn to arrive. I can't wait to start it. Thank you for sharing your pattern. Have a nice day.
I hold my hook that way too. Tried holding it like a pen but get in an awful mess and hurts my wrist and the tension is inconsistent. Better to stick with what we know and is comfortable and gives us the results we want. Also the US terms make more sense to me than UK terms which may sound odd seeing as I'm from Wales 🏴 x
It's a beautiful shawl and in love the way the yarn slides off your hook. Thank you for an amazing pattern. I always wondered how to use the pocket shawl if it had so many gaps. Now this is very beautiful and useful
This is beautiful!! I can't wait to make this. Thank you for providing the tutorial and pattern. Your voice is so soothing. And no background music! Thank you!
You are so welcome! I like music but I couldn't find one that everyone seemed to like so no music it is, just avoid any slightly longer then desired silence.
Glad it was helpful! But just a note, remember that written instructions in videos have to be super abbreviated. So occasionally check out the actual written pattern to help learn how to read a pattern and you might find it easier than expected. Example: I think row 1 is Written "SC 150" in the video but the written pattern says "Row 1: SC in 2nd CH from the hook. SC in next 149 CH."
Winding Road Crochet I am a much better visual learner! 😂. So thankful for you tube tutorials! My Gramma taught me how to crochet when I was little and am so happy to be doing it again! I want to share with my granddaughters now 😊
@@juliewilliams957 my grandmother taught me too when I was very young, around 8 yrs I would say. I too really can't read a written pattern but when a tutorial also has the pattern available I like to follow along with the person doing the tutorial while also reading the directions. I am getting better at it. What really trips me up are the directions that are written inside ( ) and have the * by them. For whatever reason I just can't seem to be able to wrap my head around what exactly to do. I'll get it eventually. The tutorials that also have the directions on the screen while the stitches are being worked seem to be the best for me but not a lot of creators do that for some reason. Even when the directions are on screen it's a good idea to cross reference the actual pattern in case the creator is simplifying the directions on screen like she stated above. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who crochets but never learned to read written directions. Honestly I don't remember my grandmother ever using a written pattern. Usually if she saw something she likes she would look at it closely and study what's done then she just recreated it from memory with her knowledge and skills at crocheting. She could also play the piano and guitar by ear. Never took a lesson in her life but she was very talented that way so I'm wondering if the way she could play by ear and crochet simply by looking at a finished piece is because her brain was wired a little differently. Unfortunately I didn't inherit her ability to do this but I have a grandson who's very talented with his saxophone and can play by ear but he also had weekly private lesson for 2 yrs. It's funny how this kind of thing skips around a family. God bless and hope you have a great day?! 🕊️🕯️🙏💛
I made this shawl as a beginner crochet project. Used exact yarn, which was difficult to find, Joanns Fabrics was the only place. It came way too small, both length and width and needed to modify it several times to get it large enough Used 5 skeins in total and it did come out pretty nice Thank you
I am glad you enjoyed the pattern. Yes it is a very size specific pattern. It is designed to fit a 63 inch wingspan when the gauge is correct. I am glad you were able to make it work.
I’m so glad I found is my daughter in Texas my daughter in Portland and a couple other friends wanted me to make these I couldn’t find the pattern until now thank you so much you’re very talented

Beautiful show and you are an excellent teacher. I am new to crocheting Just started at the end of October and the way you do this video I can understand it clearly thank you so much. I just have one question am I able to at fringe to this Right on to the pockets?
It will take quite a bit of adjustment. You will need to extend the BLOSC section to make it wide enough to fit the pockets. You will have to chain a longer chain to make the shawl wide enough. You will also have to work more rows to make the shawl taller.
@@WindingRoadCrochet thank you so much for responding! What are the measurements overall of the initial chain and for the height of this shawl if making a size Large? Maybe it's easier to go by measurement when changing the type of yarn? Don't know,..I'm asking cause I'm a begginer and I appreciate the feedback 😊
Wonderful tutorial! Thank you so much! I have been looking for a shawl pattern that had beautiful texture but still had substance to stand up to cold weather...your version is perfect! 💕💕💕💕💕
Thanks for cool pattern. Working with same yarn but different color, pomegranate grenade. Yarn is hard to find, had to order with amazon. Getting ready for winter.
The yarn can be found at Joanns, but it depends on where you live on if that is easy or not. Another good yarn to use would be the yarnspirations cakes yarns. They come in size 4 and 5.
I love this ! I'm almost done with the body of the shawl but have lost count of rows. Can you just give me in inches the width it should be? I have a hard time differentiating between rows to count them. I'm just so excited I got the stitches right! Thanks
Love this pattern❤️ I followed this pattern and am half way through my work.. but the length is coming shorter. It is 43inches.As per your other comments I have tried checking the gauge 5SCs is coming to 1.5inches for me. I am using the same yarn and the same size hook you mentioned. Appreciate your help!
If your gauge is smaller than your shawl will be smaller. The gauge needs to be 5SC = 2 inches to have the shawl come out to 60 inches wide. You will need to crochet looser, or move up a hook size to try and meet the gauge. I have also seen someone with a similar problem and then ended up adding a few rows to the edge of there shawl when they were done. I believe they used the moss stitch on the edges and it worked out well.
Very beautiful Can I use can I use yarn size 4 with hook size 5 ??also I made a chain of 151 like in the tutorial but seems very short.i am not sure if I understood well . shoud I starte making multiple of 2 until I reach the size I want ?? Thank you so much .also can I make with the yarn size 4 mediun and hook size6.50???
A chain of 151 will not work if you are using a different size yarn and hook. A smaller hook and smaller yarn simply means a smaller shawl. The easiest way to use a size 4 yarn is to use two strands held together, use the recommended hook and follow the pattern as it is. If you use a 5mm hook and a size 4 yarn you will have to adjust the starting chain, the amount of stitches worked in the back loops only and the number of rows worked, you would also have to do the same for the pockets.
@@WindingRoadCrochet thank you..on your video you were saying to adjust the chains .I couldn't understand sence I am new at crochet.usealy I follow a tutorial multiplying
I see the listed length for the wingspan, but could you tell me the approximate width? My guage doesn't match bc I used a thinner yarn and I'd like to make sure it's the proper width as well. Thank you so much for a beautiful, easy to understand pattern!
Hi! So this shawl stretched a lot. The shawl started at 60 inches after I finished it but stretched out to 67 inches. That is because of the yarn I used. I am modeling the shawl in cover photo and I have a wingspan of 60 inches. I have included a size chart in the written pattern that has different sizes for people with different wingspans. I included teh shawl size and the estimated stretch using the same yarn.
@@WindingRoadCrochet thanks so much, I did see the wingspan measurements in the written pattern, but I was curious about the width from the neck downward 😀
Hi...thanks for sharing the lovely pattern..could you please tell me in how many different crochets can be used for preparing rhis type of pattern...I am.a beginner
There is instructions for adjusting the shawl in the written pattern on the blog. I have also added it in the comments here but it will probably be easier to jump over to the written pattern.

Cannot wait to make this 😍 thank you xx
Hope you like it!
Está muy hermoso 😻 podría decirme que número de gancho o crochet uso para realizarlo de antemano muchas gracias
The hook is a size L 8mm hook and the yarn is a size 5 about 28 oz of yarn.
Hi I am not exactly sure what you are asking. This pattern uses chains and single crochets.
Awesome idea to have a crochet Chanel 💜
Thank you! 😊

There is instructions for adjusting the shawl in the written pattern on the blog. I have also added it in the comments here but it will probably be easier to jump over to the written pattern.

I hope you enjoy it.
