    Your voice is pleasantly calm in this lively yet relaxing video tutorial, the crochet steps shown are detailed and easy to follow through with unclouded lightings helps to see the steps clearly. I have not come across many crochet youtube tutorials like yours, most are either too loud/soft/muffled, or too bright/dim... I absolutely love learning from your channel.

    You know what? I bet if ya don't know a darned thing, and can watch this video and repeat it the best ya can, it's still going to be beautiful and it's still going to be warm , whether ya have experience or not. I used to let introductions like this keep me from doing something because I felt I wasn't good enough to do it. I did the chain at 211 and it was 60 inches and I am 5’5. However, I am halfway through and it is a little shorter now. It is only 56 inch is this normal. My tension is loose.

    • @createandcrochetwithpatricia
      @createandcrochetwithpatricia  3 года назад

      The only reason it would get shorter would be a tension issue. Another person posted this question and did adjust her tension and that worked. Whenever I do a foundation chain, it actually gets longer as I crochet the item. My chain was 60" to start (based on my tension) but finished at 64". I do mention in the comments below to check out the blog to make sure the length is suited to your height. You would want to add another 4" or so for your height, but also adjust for your tension. Here is the blog post: patriciafentie.com/2020/10/27/how-to-crochet-a-pocket-shawl-easy-pattern/
      If you are too far along, you could add some rows of the ribbing stitch (the sc rows) to the ends to make the shawl longer. Hope this helps!

    • @createandcrochetwithpatricia
      @createandcrochetwithpatricia  3 года назад

      Oh...well I'm sure she will love that! Also, when I measure the length of my beginning chain, it is a 'relaxed' measurement, meaning I don't stretch the length of chain out, I just lay in on the floor or table and measure it as it lays. Perhaps that could be the difference...how it's measured? I will make sure to mention that in future tutorials!

      So, I used my hubby as a model, and he is 5'11" tall (10" taller than me). I would have to add 6" to each side (total 12") for his hands to fit comfortably in the pockets. Now, he has fairly long arms, therefore, I think if you added another 6" to 7" to the total length of the shawl, that would be a good size for your friend. This is just an estimate though!

    I have in my collection of yarns a pretty 7oz acrylic yarn. Would I be able to get the same results or would I need to get a 4oz yarn for this shawl?

    • @createandcrochetwithpatricia
      @createandcrochetwithpatricia  3 года назад

      This pattern uses two 7oz balls of Bernat Premium yarn. There are 360 yards on each ball for a total of 720 yards, and it is a number 4 medium weight yarn. So, it is the yarn weight that is important. If your yarn is a number 4 medium weight (also known as worsted weight), then you should be fine.

      @@createandcrochetwithpatricia the yard which I have is Yarn Bee 6oz, 300 yards 100% acrylic and it is Not worsted yarn. I am a beginner and not very wise on what type of yarn to use for the shawl. My question is : would I have the same results as in the video. I love the color and the yarn would make a pretty shawl.

    • @createandcrochetwithpatricia
      @createandcrochetwithpatricia  3 года назад

      I am not familiar with that yarn, but when you follow the tutorial, make your beginning chain 60" in length (or whatever length you like...at least that length). I used 211 chains, but your chain count may be different. Just make sure you start with an odd number of chains. Then follow the tutorial as directed, working the rows of ribbing. As you begin the body of the shawl and start the dc2tog pattern, your row count may also be different. Do as many rows as you need to make the shawl the width you like. The finish with the rows of ribbing as directed. Did you see the blog post? • @createandcrochetwithpatricia
      @createandcrochetwithpatricia  3 года назад

      Did you make the beginning chain 60" in length or 211 chains? I mention in the video (2:14) to make the beginning chain 60". Everyone has different tension, so it could be that your tension is tighter than mine, and you'd need more that 211 chains to equal 60". How far along are you and what is your total length?

    • @amybono4109
      @amybono4109 3 года назад

      @@createandcrochetwithpatricia I made the chain 60 inches. The shawl came out at 50 inches

    • @createandcrochetwithpatricia
      @createandcrochetwithpatricia  3 года назад

      @@amybono4109 Oh dear! That will definitely be a tension issue. I've never had a scarf or shawl finish shorter than the foundation chain. I do have loose tension though. It could also be the yarn. The Bernat yarn has a lot of flexibility. You could try to modify the shawl by crocheting the ribbing pattern onto each end of the shawl until you get your desired length. You could also use it as a shoulder shawl with a shawl pin, and eliminate the pockets.

    • @amybono4109
      @amybono4109 3 года назад +2

    • @createandcrochetwithpatricia

      Yes, I do mention that one needs to have a good sense of tension for this pattern. But I'm sure it will be lovely as a shoulder shawl. You could use a shawl pin to hold it closed as well! My pocket shawl measured 64" long by 12" wide. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but these things are always good for learning!
