It is a complete head scratcher to me when people complain that the features on this update are not worth the upgrade price. It is ABSOLUTELY worth the upgrade price. Thank you for making a great video that highlights the value of this upgrade.

Feels like a very welcome full blown 1.0 upgrade to me, because the workflow enhancements alone offer HUGE benefits over Cubase 12, judging after some days of testing. Add an orchestral library for casual users like me (I have no reason to invest many hundred bucks into big libraries of this kind), a working vocoder and a useable vocal chain (the other new fx plugins are less important to me), and 13 is worth more than the upgrade price IMO. I also don't share any "habitual animal feelings" about GUI changes: 13 is flat out more functional than 12 in my use. And I prefer the effort to get a unified scalable UI 10 times over any nostalgic clinging to nice 3-d or shadow eye candy.I guess some of that - as far as it really might help the eyes for better overview - will be re-introduced without over-doing after a few remaining inconsistencies are fixed. For colours some more well done global presets would be fine. My conclusion, using 13 since roughly a week now: I already couldn't care less about 12.

After ~20 years away, I built a home studio a couple of years ago and am still amazed at the technology advances. Audio interfaces and DAWs are light years ahead of what I remember, and a fraction of the cost. I’ll happily shell out $100 as long as it’s stable. I’ll still likely only ever scratch the surface of what it’s capable of, but appreciate the depth of what’s there.
Also SINCERELY appreciate your videos. Super clear, in depth and great attitude. Thank you!

I had been unsure if getting this update was worth it. I'm not too impressed with Cubase 12 and barely used it. The features highlighted here and in other similar videos but others have me downloading it in download manager as I type. I really like Iconica and will be playing with that a lot. The overall improvements in workflow shown here almost seems like they know how I sue Cubase.

I really didn't think that I wanted this update; but it seems that 13 works more quickly. There's also a lot of new plugins they give you for free.
Also, face it, this is the future. They're not going to spend any time working on old versions.

  • @rockbul1
    @rockbul1 9 месяцев назад +2

The main function is the tool change. It's made very awkward. They put a picture of the tool, which is generally not visible. Mixer requires 3D glasses. The old one is much cleaner and more comfortable. In the editor, the note values are terribly red in color and there is no way to change them. The most important flaw of all recent versions of cubase is that it keeps crashing on close.

  • @PurpleMusicProductions
    @PurpleMusicProductions 8 месяцев назад

Really good video showing the differences. Thank you for that. I am not fan of the new visuals because the white letters will be hard to read. I do like the midi and chord pads update. Everything else is meh because I have hardware, SSL Native channel strips, UAD and Fab Filter plugins so using the Cubase Pultec EQ version while a nice addition does not benefit me. The same is true for the stock compressors. For someone who has none of those things could possibly benefit more in 13. This update feels more like 12.5 as there just is not a whole lot there. Maybe I will skip this one or at least wait until 13.5 or 14.

I'm pretty much the same in description as you are.. I'm actually tired of the new upgrades. I think I'll remain with 12 right now - Even though it's only AI. But if they'll allow me to upgrade to the now defunct Artist or Pro (12), I think that's all I'll need for the rest of my playing days. The human ear can only discern so much. I don't need more audio / midi tracks. I don't need anything beyond 48khz / 32 bit (float) 🤷
I just need to learn to use what I already have better.

I love the fact that Steinberg has given workflow features more thought, in this upgrade. It's deffinetly worth upgrading.
That being said, one hugh disapointment is that they still neglected to adress all the flaws with the "Articulation Map" feature. There is a reason why pro composers (Hans Zimmer, Tom Holkenborg, Anne-Kathrin Dern, to name a few. All the limitations makes it practically unusable! The "Articulation Map" feature is a perfect example of a brilliant idea, rendered useless by poor implementation.

Ver 13 is the one to have. Really. Its stable and solid,,also better optimized. Vers 12 is not. I highly suggest the upgrade,, it is well worth it. Spectral layers 10 alone is nearly worth the whole upgrade imo.
If you bought v 12 sorry,, but v12 was kinda the sacrificial lamb i hate to say it. Thats why it was cracked so easy but steinys plan was brilliant. They waited to put all goodies in 13. However, they do care about their customers who bought 12 and offer generous ways to upgrade to13. No i dont at all work for them, im , just someone who understands their marketing strategies!

You sound like a Cubase employee. Most people have more problems with 13 and find the layout terrible. There is also no need to go from 12 to 13, so I don't do that either. Cubase has been around for so long and you can make all your music tracks just as well with version 10 or 5 or 3. I even still have the first version... so nice and easy. That just happens to come from a time where the best music was made 😊

With plug-in managers like Komplete Kontrol and AkAi VIP, a user can audition any preset Instantly, before loading it .
So, Cubase's media-bay, could make proxy audio files, for the presets of any selected libraries.
It would be like browsing the Loops and Samples section of Cubase, but the audition sample is pointing to, calling, a preset for that sound when needed.

Hi there, I didn't know how to send you a direct PM message (iso please inform me how) so posted here at least in a relevant area (i hope)...
Re questions about cubase logical editor or mix console “history”/“snapshots”/“scenes”.. to go back steps sequentially?
Hey there. Love your vyoutube tutorials as always!! :)
I was wondering if there’s a way to save the mix console settings, or the project without saving the whole project file, so that I can return to a place where the settings were correct for a good soundbefore having moved forward and using some plug-ins or presets that ruined the sound, lol!. Want to be able to go back steps to where it was sounding good again. For example I’ve heard the logical editor? Or mix console has snapshot function? Can this be used (say logical editor for example in a project session file that’s been saved) even coming back to it days later and opening? Ie. Will the logical editor steps or the mix console steps be able to accessed to go back step by step?
Ifso do you have easy to u u set stand tutorials for this?
I’m almost finished a track (95% done on production, 80% done on mixdown, then put some Kazrog Avalon compressor/eq & sifting mild saturation on all the group buses and then main sub bus to bring over all level down then a sent that to mix bus and inserted Avalon, saturation, Kclip, then a fabfilter limiter.
But sound got worse. I used presets that sounded good and had correct gain staging and good mixdown upto -5db before these bus and mix bus inserts :(
    Then after adding them the
Sound got slightly dist (barely noticeable but there) and still clipping despite the clipper and limiter :(
Note/question: With regards to the kazrog Avalon I’m guessing that it’s emulating and modeled on the analog equivalent therefore needs a far different input level to a digital compressor and maybe the input /output needs to be manually matched by me and maybe the build up of all these possibly unmatched input/outputs could also be the cause of this problem? I remember somewhere someone saying that old analog gear was dbu and digital gear dbv or something this input was equivalent to -6 analog vs -20 digital or something..?
Therefore needs a far lower input signal in digital land..?
Wondering if it’s my sonarworks sound ID keeping the clipping happening or adding the light distortion :(
Sound ID also skewing the mix a bit pan wise (but doesn’t do it in headphone curve, go figure :(
But if I disable sound IDto get pan back then I lose the correction curve I’m mixing to :(
It’s a bag full of problems and I’m distraught as approaching deadline and it was sounding great before these problems.
So… wanted to find a way to go back sequentially in steps to find where the mix was good again, WITHOUT losing some minor production that I’d moved forward with…
Is that possible with mix console snapshots or “history” type function?
Or logical editor “history” type function?
Otherwise I’ll have to go back to where mix was sounding good one version saved ago, and redo the minor production again :(
Many thanks for any advice in advance as I know your all extremely busy people,
    Joey :)

    Hello Sir
I had a doubt related to the midi workflow in Cubase 13. Every time I try to copy a part of the midi clip using the range selection tool or manually shorten it (dragging from the bottom left) I can see all the extra midi information that fall outside the region boundary.
Is there a way to hide this extra information as it just clutters up the screen when I'm doing multi part editing. The only fix for this so far is to duplicate the midi event and split it using the scissor tool. That is completely counter intuitive and is an extra step with the range selection tool available. I might be missing something in the settings. Please let me know if there's a way to fix this.
I've used Logic Pro and Ableton Live for the most part. Has it always been this way in Cubase?

was going to write as a repely to another cat, but figured ...no...steinberg need to hear how many feel.......i think it goes a long way further than that. (this lead sentence was the initial reply segue).....with respect to the video, which is great, it doesn't go far enough in terms of the 'day by day' of having to work with 13. essentially it is completely off (hyperbole...it's not off it's still a great DAW but ) in terms of a DAW that people have gotten used to working with. & to offset that i've dispensed the upgrade and gone back to 12, which if we think of the history of cubase and the introduction of 13, then we assume 12 as the zenith. candidly though with 13...a watered down orchestra...really....do we all film score (and even if we do, don't we already have orchestral suites that far outpunch iconica), a vocal chain....come on...is this for real, when we already have been building our own vocal chains over the years, often with third party plugins that are well credentialled in the industry....so suddenly everyone drops that chain/s and immediately goes over to cubase 13, and perhaps the biggest trinket...a Pultec...again, come on, who's kidding who....alright you've never done any recording work and you're starting fresh...ok....i get it ....buy a daw with a Pultec and it's like all the trinkets in one, but it's an upgrade that should be servicing the greater number of users of cubase and ultimately that's the repeat customers. Ableton, (soon to be 12) Studio One, Bitwig, and FL all had (about to have) serious upgrades and the best Steinberg could come up with was 13. i've seen endless videos on people talking it up, but ultimately it's a pancake going nowhere and the GUI is the biggest insult to long time users......to balance....ok...some midi functionality is improved and chord pads are improved....what's not improved though is the elephant in the room of vst connect. post covid, which changed the way people work and will work, if ever there was a time to throw weight behind something that could put cubase into stellar mode, it would be unlocking the gremlins that infest vst connect and finally and conclusively come up with a protocol that really works and really impacts on the recording industry. Nope not in 13, instead we get an orchestra, missing countless solo instruments, a watered down pultec...that was already out there, oh and of course a GUI that totally kills wanting to work with cubase for long sessions.

Thanks, I really appreciate that. The song is actually a current production so I can't post anything until the project is complete.

TmI have updated to cubase 13 from 12 and it just sucks. There's a lot if bugs in it. Espacially when you try to change a preset in vst instruments

Unpopular opinion but I'm really not a fan of C13 so far. Yes there are a lot of nice things about it but at least for me, daily use stuff has been arbitrarily changed that now makes things harder. Example; why can't I see all available insert slots & free slots only appear as I drop plugins on? If I need to put a plugin post fader, it takes extra steps now. Or how about changing the location of the setting that returns the playhead to where it started playing from? Used to be in the transport section of settings, now it's somewhere I always forget.
Also am I the only one who's had a plethora of bugs so far? Graphical glitches like randomly mirroring the inspector in a selected audio clip, suddenly refusing to open session files, RENAMING session files for no apparent reason!!! I've been using Cubase since 9.5 & 13 has been my worst experience so far.

There are some cool new things but I'm pretty disappointed that some of the "new" features are things that should have been in Cubase literally decades ago. Cubase is almost 34 years old and they just now considered that people might want to use range selection in the midi editor? The midi upgrades might make this worth $99 but it's hard to say.

Nope. These are wonderful workflow improvements that many Cubase users have requested in Steinberg forums etc. (!) Great update.

I agree. I can't imagine that it takes 6 versions to update the key command layout to a new look. And then they present it as a feature lol.

@@Byron101_ All I'm saying is that they've been known about for years, I frequent those forums. They dole out feature updates strategically to keep people paying $99 for updates or $250 for upgrades even though the actual art of audio engineering hasn't changed in 20+ years for most people (Commercial music hasn't had a significant new file format since FLAC came out 22 years ago).

@@stevenleonmusic As a Pro Tools user, I can definitely say that Steinberg is miles ahead when it comes to updates without having to pay ridiculous subscription fees. Ill take 99 bucks when it suits me rather than the DAW turning your session off if you dont pay up.
