I have a '99 firebird V6 & my dad & I replaced the oil pump but I still don't have oil pressure (oil sensor is new & I don't have oil leaks)... Now I have lifter noise.
Unfortunately that’s the situation with these engines if they aren’t maintained with reasonable oil changes or when they are high mileage survivors. The leaks, if any externally aren’t the problem. When internal bearing clearances are worn excessively, a new oil pump won’t help much if at all. Your noisy hydraulic lifters that rely on reasonable oil pressure for proper operation are telling you the bad news. An engine rebuild using quality components will restore the oil pressure along with some performance as well.
