You did not even mention the best part of the game, which is the story, it’s such a personal human drama between the main characters but told in such a grand scale, with waring nations, monsters and power beyond imagination in the form of runes, they managed to find the perfect balance, making the game always feel grounded. It’s one of my favorites from any fiction ever!

Though kinda disagree with Army Battle opinion, i think its essential since the game background was war, and its kinda easy after you figure it out and i love it. Also the fact some characters can die on the battle when their unit get wiped out make me think that this mini game not an after thought like you said.

excellent video, about the part of being lost about not knowing what to do,currently there is something that serves as a quest log,the granny that you recruit for the castle tells you where you have to go if you forget, but it has the same problem as In the case of the map,you only recruit grandma after 12 to15 hours of play, that is,if you get lost before that,it's complicated, but suikoden 2 is incredible, it's the best RPG both in technical terms and in history

What's funny is I remember wayyyyy back when you had to rent games from a video store, I rented this game for the OG Playstation because the game I was wanting at the time hadn't been returned yet. I didn't think I would be very interested in it but my dad was rushing me so I just picked it because the cover art looked interesting. I absolutely fell in love with the game and I rented it again in order to try and beat it. I got up to the part where (SPOILER ALERT) your sister can & did die in my game.. and I had to return it. I didn't have the money to rent it again right away so I had to wait a week. In that week someone else rented it and literally never brought it back. I wanted to beat it badly because I was so enthralled with the story, so I went to buy it at EB ..(Electronic Boutique). I was like $10 short, so I went back the next week to buy it and all their stock was gone, I asked the clerk and he said the game had been discontinued or some bs crap.. So I had to beg my parents to please buy a copy of it for me from EBAY which..back then EBAY was a little sketchy.. But they got it for me.. It was the first thing I ever bought from EBAY.. but yeah, I kicked the shit out of the game after that lol.. It was my favorite RPG for a long time, I even liked it more than Final Fantasy 7 for awhile.. But yea..totally great game

Tbf. This could be said about the entire series as a whole. The buzz surrounding it, especially when compared to other RPG series, is practically non-existent

I have no real arguments for this video, I agree with most of it. But please, anyone reading this, do yourself a favor and if you like Suikoden I and II, give III a shot. To me, III is the definition of a misunderstood, underappreciated game. Even within its own fandom. It's such a great sequel to II, and it ALSO lets you transfer save date from Suikoden II. Meaning, things you did in Suikoden I can effect certain easter eggs/references in Suikoden III. Suikoden I-III really are a cohesive trilogy with a massive payoff if you experience all three games. It's at least worth an experience, despite what many people say.
I'm not saying you'll love it as much as I do, it's literally my favorite game of all time. But, I think it's worth a look to decide for yourself where it stands. I think all the Suikoden mainline games are worth experiencing, even the spin-offs.
Suikoden has one of my favorite fictional worlds ever, and III fleshes out the world better than ever imo. The characters feel so alive and the towns are so vibrant despite the dated systsem it's on. Plus, the shot composition is absolutely phenomenal. I could go on forever, but the cinematography in the cutscenes is really thoughtful and effective. An element in games I feel is overlooked and I think Suikoden III is a masterclass example of how to use the camera to enhance the story being told, whether you realize it or not.
Just go in expecting something different. Something more ambitious. It's not trying to be the same game as I and II. I love I and II, but their design philosophies are so intrinsically linked it's impossible to seperate them. III wanted to try something different. Whether that works for you or not is entirely up to you, and totally okay. I just want more people to try it, because I feel like it's always forgotten, and there are probably a lot of people out there who would really like it if they gave it a chance.

3 is my personal favorite of all the suikoden games. Love the different perspectives and I think the cast of characters (that are at least story relevant) are top tier as well. I’ve played it like 6 times xD

@@superblanco444 Glad to see another III enjoyer! I agree, the cast of characters are really great. The main trio has some of the best party members I've ever seen in an RPG! And there's 4 of them, if you count Thomas. I need to replay it soon!

@KingofHart34 Technically there's five perspectives if you count Luc. If you beat the entire game with all 108 Stars you unlock his story. Absolutely love your little rant here by the way, I fully agree with everything in it, and I've left several quite like it on the bunch of other RUclips videos. Suikoden 3 needs to be played, it's my personal favorite game of all time, and I have the entire suikoden series in my collection.

    • @KingOfHart34

@@missingLEGACY Yes, for sure, thanks for adding that! I moreso meant that there are essentially 4 main parties, if you count Thomas, and that each of these main parties are super memorable and interesting. Like this game has 4 parties, and there are very few RPGs I've played that I like their SINGLE party as much as I like any of these 4. It's incredible! Chris, while my favorite character, probably has my least favorite party, but I still really like it. Especially when a certain someone joins later on. But Geddoe has my favorite right out the gate. Such fantastic chemistry and diversity in personality and background.

@@KingOfHart34 you're talking about Fred, aren't you? I love to hate that guy. Granted, casting him in any of the plays that can be put on at the castle, is almost always hilarious.

I want to mention a couple of details, it is true that getting the cartographer takes time, although the area is quite limited to the point where you get him
And yes there is a mechanic to remember the objective, in addition to going to the main room of the castle, where the story is almost always advanced, one of the characters to be recruited has its only function of reminding you exactly what you should or have pending to do
Tactical battles are not good and hopefully the remake will do something about it

Everything is a masterpiece especially the story. I just hope konami invest on this series just like how sony invest with their final fantasy franchise.

My personal all time favourite game.
Beautiful pixel art. Beautiful story. Great music. Brilliant characters.
The ending was beautiful, the true ending i mean.
Vagrant story, ff7, eternal eyes, azure dreams, ocarina of time, chrono trigger, dragon quest/warrior monsters was all brilliant.... But Suikoden 2 is the Goat. Such a shame the series died off like it did.

Man, that part in MGS freaked me the hell out when I first played it as a kid way back when. I remember turning to my friend saying, “How does it know?!” And just before I went all “the power of Christ compels you!” I looked down and realized my rpg memory card was plugged in and it was reading my memory card save and my idiot 13yo self could only let out a laugh of relief.
But yes Suikoden 2 is phenomenal.
