I remember being genuinely sad at the part where the other robots turn on Robo. It was painful to see his genuine confusion at being attacked by his own, who he clearly perceived as being a kind of "family" to him. I know the feelz. Being betrayed by people you thought you knew. People you trusted. Anyway, I, too, loved this game and would recommend it to anyone. Absolute banger. Great story. Fantastic soundtrack. They really don't make them like this anymore and that's a shame.
Half of these games I've never had an interest in and most likely will never play, but I think you're hilarious, and you the way you present them keeps the videos entertaining all the way through. I've seen (or listened to) just about all your content and eagerly await each new release. You've helped me get through a lot of early morning slogs on my way to 0400 12 hr shifts, and for that, I thank you you.
@@StratEdgyProductionsI'm surprised you needed to grind... I guess you didn't get stuff like the rainbow sword or the prism dress or other top end equivalent.
The DragonBall animation style was how I did all my drawings as a kid. I loved FF7 when I was a kid too, so when I heard about Chrono Trigger, it seemed like everything my young self ever wanted. Picked it up last summer sale, so I'll be watching this video after!
I'm kinda sad you didn't get to experience the way I did, the Final Fantasy Chronicles on PS1, had no clue what the game was as my uncle left it, and being a 90s kid, Toriyama's art style first drew me in with the cutscenes, and the gameplay gripped me and stayed planted in my psyche for years. Chrono Trigger truly is a timeless experience though, even today it still gives me goosebumps in certain sections.
One thing I loved about this game is how it even lets you collect the mystical chests multiple times by getting them in the future, then in previous eras (although some items are more powerful in the future, becoming mail in future eras, and vest in older one). It's really clever use of time travel imo
Hearing you say Masamune like that almost bothers me enough to tell santa, you don't get presents this year; yet bringing the boys back, and reviewing this game makes me wanna buy you a couple beers and take you to a strip club to get your first taste of neglected snatch. Love ya lol
Idk why it seems so simple for some, myself included to break up the word and sound it out rather than trying to combine everything into less sounds. Ma-Sa-Mu-Ne not Masa-Mune
Chrono trigger is my favorite game of all time. I remember playing it in a electronics boutique display. The game is flawless. It is perfectly executed in every way.
Fun fact: Masa and Mune are called Gran and Leon in the japanese version, which makes the sword The Granleon. That always seemed better to me than a western sword being named after a japanese swordsmith.
The localization team thought "Granleon" would sound a bit generic over here, so they gave it a Japanese name to keep the feeling of it having a unique-sounding name within the setting.
Heya Strat, huge fan. Don't be discouraged by the low view count on this video; you're legit my favorite content creator, and I always look forward to your drops. I remember you saying that you're planning on covering Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077's DLC, and Starfield next, and I'm SURE all of those videos are going to crush, so pleaaase don't be afraid to put your heart into them and stick to your longer format. There is so much demand for long retrospectives, and a long form Cyberpunk 2077 retrospective would be AMAZING, seeing as the DLC is about to drop and there aren't many deep dives into the game, and it being a Western RPG, it perfectly fits your niche. I just thought I'd give you some words of encouragement man! You're the best. I'd also love to see more Skyrim, Fallout 4, Morrowind, Oblivion, CRPG, and Western RPG content!
Every time I start a new game, I go straight to Guardia forest to grind some levels until I get all of Chrono's techs up to slash unlocked so the section in the Cathedral is a bit easier as youll be able to learn Flame Whirl pretty early on and the snake type enemies have flame weakness. Another thing to note, dont interact with the pink bag just before Gato's arena at the Fair, its an old man's lunch, and he will not he very happy that you ate his food.
I bought the game years ago. I never got around to playing it. It's sitting right there on my shelf less than ten feet away. So, It's nice to get to see it with videos like this. Thanks Strat-Edgy.
Glad to see you cover one of my favorite games of all time. I would recommend that new players take a look at a guide to make sure they see all the side quests towards the end of the game. Not only does it give some really great "optional" scenes like the famous campfire scene that discusses the theme of the game, but it also rewards you with the experience necessary to take on the Black Omen (as you stated in the video).
So, if you keep going back to that tent you get the Doppledoll at, you can get catfood. If you keep your cat fed, you'll get more cats, which affects one of the endings in a minor way.
I'm going to be honest, the ending sequence for the ending you got is pretty iconic, not only is the ending theme pretty great but it shows the party going through time and seeing how everyone was doing now that Lavos isn't around.
My prized possession is my old snes cart where all of my characters are absolutely maxed out. Always made the yearly playthrough a pleasant experience ^_^
one of the things about doing the side quests is giving crono the Rainbow Sword and Sunglasses and then using Confusion (snes original name, forget its remaster name) and having Crono crit 4 times to a single target for like 15k each hit. Boy became a one man army.
Also when you get the Rainbow shell, you get the choice of one prism dress or three prism helms, the strongest armors in the game. You can steal a prism dress from the head of Queen Zeal's final form and a prism helm from one of her arms (the other arm has a megalixer, also worth stealing!) If you do the Black Omen in 1000 AD first, you can fight her again in the Middle Ages and again in the Dark Ages and get copies of the best helms for everyone (pick the helms from the shell) and best armor for all of the women in one playthrough. Frankly, almost every boss after losing Crono is worth stealing from, Queen Zeal is just the best example.
Absolute banger of a review as always. Oh, and before I forget, lemme put on my weeb hat real quick: Masamune is supposed to be pronounced "Mah-Sah-Moo-nay". Its a legendary Japanese sword from Japanese myth and if you play any JRPG ever made odds are you WILL find a reference to it, if not actually find it in game. Its their version of Excalibur basically.
Strat I just want you to know that the sword is literally spelled masamune (mah-sah-moo-nae). As in the legendary Japanese sword seen across multiple instances of Japanese history and samurai warfare. It's very famous.
I've been really enjoying the love this game's gotten recently. It's one of the greats of my childhood! Let me qualify that with the fact that I actually got the DS version first. Arguably it was the definitive port until the PC version came out, and to be honest, while I like the PC version, I still like the DS version more.
Theres also a Lode sword in the prison section which is a massive upgrade, Lucca will only be able to help you with the Dragon Tank if you wait the 3 days in jail. The pattern for bosses with 3 parts usually goes right then left, then center. Right hand usually heals and buffs, so thats always main priority.

You can also just not get Crono back which becomes its own alternate ending and find triple combo accessories that for some reason I could never figure out how to use that all relied on non-Crono comps. There is an ending that sees Magus or Frog as the victor in a final show down depending on if you did Frog's side quest to empower the Masamune, others you've mentioned, the "bad" ending which triggers if you lose to Lavos after taking the Epoch into 1999, and if you are at a sufficient level (and stocked on items) you can get the dev room ending

As someone like me who is very new (due to age and geography reasons) to JRPGs and turn-based games, this is damn helpful😂 I was born in Nigeria in the 2000s and didn't have access to JRPGs or many games like these and I have come to really appreciate the cool stories and great retro gameplay they have

Although you can often avoid them. And as you level up, random encounters with lower ranked enemies don't require you to enter battle, but automatically resolve without fully transitioning to the battle screen. And their attacks and responses to damage are character appropriate and hilarious. There's also this cowardly party member early on (it's been a while, but I think you ditch him soon enough) who constantly hides behind other party members, or apologises to the enemy whenever it's his turn. It's glorious. 😂 It's not on Steam, but I'm sure you'll be able to hunt down the ROM for a SNES emulator. Or you could buy the cartridges if you happen to have a SNES or GBA.

It's not on Steam, but I'm sure you'll be able to hunt down the ROM for a SNES emulator. Or you could buy the cartridges if you happen to have a SNES or GBA.
I actually like the split personality dynamic duo self-insert characters in Hell. I'm glad they're back
Split-personality?
Doc is obviously a self-insert, but Nick is clearly a strawman representing the RUclips comments.
You, salt, and never know best are my favorite youtubers in games

My brain has been buzzing nonstop since seeing this. Bolts of inspiration. Bless you man, hope all is going well! Excellent stuff, as ever 💪🔥🤍

RUclips doesn’t notify me when you upload and you’re like the only account I sub to with this issue. I really hope things turn around for the better soon.

i just wanna note that at the time, the nintendo power players help line was merely a long distance charge from your company, in other words a free service
When I had Magus, Ayla, and Robo in my party, I traveled to 1999 AD and they basically rammed the Epoch into Lavos and eliminated the 1st stage of Lavos
