Ruling Bretonnia? Sacrebleu! I mean by Grimnir's Beard and Axe! No thanks, I will stay in the mountains, better to be a vagabond Dawi then a pompous Bretonnian. Manlings! They have long legs but short minds. 'Louis had dwelled long in his homeland, with his family, on the very edge of the Loren Forest. They had known the forest folk, as few men did, and the bow had been gifted to his father by one of the wood elves. It was that bow that had cost his father his life, when their knightly liege had demanded the weapon, claiming that such a bow was unfit for peasant hands. Louis smiled, recalling how the knight had died, drowning in his own blood, how he had reclaimed his father’s bow, and how he had made the armoured lords of Bretonnia pay for their cruelty and oppression. At last, the feared archer known as the Black Feather-after the crow feathers he adorned his arrows with-had been forced to leave his homeland, to range far across the Known World to escape the vengeful grasp of the king...' - The story of Louis know as "Black Feather" Bretonnian outlaw and assassin for hire. "The lands of Bretonnia were rich and fertile, the soil dark and fecund, its landscape tilled by the peasants, its sweeping plains of the dukedoms open and green. Unlike the thickly forested realm of the Empire far to the north over the Grey Mountains that embraced the new sciences of alchemy, astrology and engineering, the realm of Bretonnia kept to the ancient ways of chivalric conduct. The beloved King Leoncoeur maintained the codes of behaviour set down by King Louis over a thousand years ago and held by the grail monks in the Chapel of Bastonne..."An extract from "Guardians of the Forest" - Graham McNeill
Its not actually a bad system...should the nobility actually keep their word and codes. Loosen up the treatment of the peasents and enforce the codes and they would be set. There is a reason feudalism lasted so long in our own world.
True, although ideals seldom marry well with reality. And we have to remember, Warhammer is designed to take any given concept to it's worst possible extreme to create that grimdark atmosphere it's so famous for.
Sometimes I absolutely ADORE your commentary! "You don't have to worry about heretics (or whatever you said) if your people are too stupid to know their own name."
But in a magical hermit Kingdom were the great leaders really are demigod rulers as well as much of the elites of society. *It is honestly a scary thought that the gap between powerless peasants and demigod nobility is SO vast and horrendously onesided.* A society that favors the nobility which have *actual "divine right to rule"* to justify themselves and their actions because many of these nobles, the aptly named *"Grail Knights",* that make up a decent chunk of the Bretonnian aristocracy have meet their goddess the Lady of the Lake herself in person, receiving her, blessings and her divine legitimacy/backing as well as ofcourse the legendary boon of demigod tier powers.
Ahh yes, the land ruled by simps fueled through magical gamer girl bathwater... WHY DO PEOPLE EVEN LIKE THIS FACTION?
