  • Ancient Maya ruins that often get overlooked are those in Campeche, in the central part of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. These were once impressive and heavily populated cities, built in the Rio Bec style. David and Cassie visited two, right near modern Xpujil: the sites of Becan and Xpuhil, which you''re bound to find fascinating.
We hope you enjoy watching this #antiquitiestravelguide about #Becan and Xpuhil as much as we enjoyed making it.

I notice the rooms have entrances but no doors and the idea of tall buildings seems a good way to stay off the jungle ground gave a worry-less sleep at night. What an amazing place, I am really marveled by these structures.

Great video. I was just there and the town looks way dirtier and run down than what little I could see in your video. There is also constant traffic and large trucks due to the train being built.

This is really great presented with all the contextual information. Its amazing how much we know having isnt it only 4 paper texts? Mostly learned from those historical record stellae? carvings. Really a ton more information than we used to have when i was a kid a dinosaurs were unlikely slow lizards.

You make an excellent point here, one ppl almost always miss; virtually ALL archeological sites around the world are Reconstructed, from Yucatan to Teotihuacan, the Moai of Easter Island, Stonehenge, the megaliths of Malta, you name it.
Rebuilding activities alone rep. a HUGE part of modern archeology today.
BUT, sometimes archeologists make mistakes & get it wrong, & unfortunately anomalous (or just plain sloppy) work can also feed into the "fringe-conspiracy" crowd.
I have no particular point to make here, except to say this sort of thing highlights just how FRAGILE most of these sites are; being made from stone is no guarantee of permanence, mores the pity, & when you give things a few generations or so, Nature laughs last...
