You just gotta love her: She's talented, she's unpretentious and down-to-earth, she's pretty, she's fighting for the issues she thinks are important, she's smart. Other (so-called) music superstars pale next to Sarah.
I remember meeting Sarah Harmer back in the 90's prior to a Weeping Tile concert around the time that the Valentino album came out. She came over and sat down at my table in the bar and had a drink with my friend Renee and I. She asked me what song I most wanted to hear, I responded that I wanted to hear her play the song "Anyone" from the Eepee album, and of course she not only played the song but found me in the crowd and dedicated it to me. Sarah is a class act and a great performer.
I remember recording this on a VHS tape because I was enamoured with Sarah Harmer. Passionate activism mixed with amazing song writing. Beautiful voice sung by a beautiful person.
i sang with her!!!! i was in the choir at my school and we got the chance to sing with her at the Empire Theatre on Belleville Ontario it was GREAT, she is so nice and down to earth, good voice!
Thanks for that. Wow I think she is a super and natural talent. I really loved her song here. Reminds me of another super talented and prolific singer-song writer also from Canada, Joni Mitchell who blew everyone away back then.
I am adding Sarah to my list of the finest female voices of our day. I know that sounds a bit excessive, but I actually mean it. She is right in there with Amy Speace, Bonnie Bishop, Kathleen Edwards, Laura Marling. We live in a great musical era, really, but you won't find this kind of talent on mainstream TV.
So, I was just over listening to Sawyer Fredericks, the winner of the Voice [last season]. I am a huge fan, and thought that none of the voices on that show that year could even come close to Sawyer. So I had listened to several of his songs, and sensing something inside, I said to my wife sitting nearby, "You know," I said, "Sawyer is one of my favorites, but he is not as good as this." I then clicked on this song, and let me tell you, move over Sawyer. You are a very fine singer, but this is far, far better. Sarah is one of my favorite voices right now. So precise, so melodic, so sensitive. That she writes this stuff is just icing on an already delicious vocal cake.
First and foremost, she is one helluva songwriter and singer. I have all her stuff and it is in heavy rotation. I'll probably never get to see her perform live which is a bummer. But what is ultra cool about her is that she is uniquely beautiful and it seems like she has no idea. I love that.
So talented and lovely Sarah! Where are you now...?? Come back Girl. I heard and watched your "Oleander" - just incredible, it's reeling in my head! And the present 'fracking creeps" need to hear this song now - talk about 'foreshadowing' about what some earth genocide corporations will do for money: sad. Thanks Steven for uploading....some of us are slow. But, like they say "when the student is ready - the teacher appears" *Smile"
this is from the Gill Deacon show, a short lived CBC Tv program 2006 - 2007. How incredibly fortunate this was recorded and shared, stunning performance
Unfortunately, this is the only song she performed on the show. She was there mainly to promote her cause to save the Ontario escarpment. I'd love to see her live.
I sure do like this song. Since my water comes from a well, I sure do get the point. It is too bad the people in the subdivisions can't get their head's out of their......
It's not about "in her backyard", the Escarpment is the main source of drinking water for a LOT of southern ontario. Jobs are never worth the long term health of the society, cause if we're all dead, we can't work anyway.
It's a metaphor. Her meaning is that the Escarpment is home to many - us, nature, and wildlife - which is the same point you're making. You might want to look further than just the surface next time! Music has endless depth.
It’s actually about her literal backyard. She wrote this in protest to the expansion of the Nelson Quarry in the north part of Burlington, Ontario, literally a few kms from her childhood home. Blind Line (as mentioned in the song) runs from Britannia Road north to the quarry where it ends. It is still expanding to this day.
I don't particularily agree with this post but it doesn't deserve to be removed simply because it brings up to what some might think is a valid point versus the many who disagree. This isn't some ignorant rant full of profanity.
I guess what you have to decide is 50, 100, even 1000 jobs worth destroying an important part of our ecosystem for? I'm with Sarah on this one, and thoroughly enjoy this fine Canadian artist.

She sounds lovely. I finally saw her at the Montreal folk festival a few years prepandemic.
So many great Canadian singer song writers.

I wonder if she knows she's brilliant. I met her once. It didn't seem like it. Which makes me love her even more.
We need more songs like this, now more than ever.
I sing this to my texas born daughter all the time and she loves it (I'm Canadian)
I'm from Philadelphia Pa and this is the first time I've heard her or of her and she is really a fabulous musician and performer. Wow
So my first comment was 2 yrs ago and once again I find myself back here... Still loving it
Sarah's amazing! She's a beautiful girl and her voice is just awesome. I'd love to see her play live...
remains such an excellent song; so good to have a musical appreciation of the natural world we depend upon; and in a beautiful voice!
Still here in 2020. Still amazing!

Sarah is such an amazing singer. She is wonderful to see live, especially at a small intimate venue.

+Victor Edwards I saw her preform at a hotennany in Ontario, Canada and she's even better live? - if that's possible
In absolute love with her lyrical genius, voice and pure beauty. Damn.

her voice is beyond amazing. love her!
She has an amazing voice.
This song could not be more relevant to all of us Huronia an Grey County types that adore the Beaver Valley and the escarpment generally!
She's a gem.
this is from the Gill Deacon show, a short lived CBC Tv program 2006 - 2007. How incredibly fortunate this was recorded and shared, stunning performance
Yup, Gill worked the entertainment beat on CBC local news in Montreal back in the late 80's. She's super perky and sweet.
very true. I just heard her today and now am listening to her music and all of it is magnificent.
fantastic, wow Canada gives us some great female artists. love this side much.
Brilliant, missing depth to music these days. Thank you Sarah!
Wow! Wow! Wow! What a brilliant voice
This is bloody fantastic, I love her.
I love you, CBC!
hey isnt she great. another great songwriter from a long line of Canadian songsmiths. Wonderful!
Unfortunately, this is the only song she performed on the show. She was there mainly to promote her cause to save the Ontario escarpment. I'd love to see her live.
She’s outstanding.

Woo. She's coming to Edmonton :D
nice sound for a "live" song
she has a very nice voice
Thank you so much for uploading this video! Much appreciated. Is this a snip-it from the DVD of the same name?
Her voice reminds me of Iris DeMent.

@onlywhenprovoked Angel from Montgomery?
I like turtles! :)
Me toooooo
Let's not mess with the habitat for our turtles!

I want to marry her.
They should rename the juno's after her.
She's good :)
Kindof a mix of Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris and Maria Muldaur.
WHAT?You're kidding
