They sell these Comfort Zone's for about $28 at Target/WalMart, but for $28 they have no buttons, instead the fans have 2 speeds, and you can flip the fans themselves 180 for desired position...just bought one ;) For ghetto AC, I recommend a box fan and place in front of it jugs of frozen water (used milk gallons).

It came with some sort of extender panel and I can't figure out how to attach it.

Those fans are made to be used in windows that open upward. You place it on the lower part of the window with a screen to keep most bugs out... If you only have left to right (vice versa) opening windows then you did a great job...

Use a pollen filter over the fan
