This video was filmed in April 2014 at Shakti School of Dance, at the Old Rang Nath Temple, Pushkar, Rajasthan.
Filming and editing by Julianne Reynolds of Romanski Films
Music recording from Srjan - odissi dance school.
Please, please never skip the feet while recording these masterpieces... the feet are part of the dance and carry meaning as well. Beautiful performance at a beautiful location.
I totally agree with you. It is so frustrating that the person filming got too close to the dancer and concentrated so much on her face and arms. The whole body makes the dance.
@@nct948 Agreed, it's so beautiful how every little detail of the body is meaningful in traditional dances. No part should be left out.
Seems to have captured it all from what I see. There were whole body shots, close ups, and some panning out to take in the whole ambiance.

India maybe dirty and didn't have public toilets like that of America 🇺🇸 and China 🇨🇳.. but our Indian civilisation influences and existence is equal or better... hmmmm... yet Pakistan 🇵🇰 is given us a bad name.. hmmmm.. 😔
She is like a dancer protruding from ancient murals. Her beautiful smile is 1000 years old.
Bang on! Great observation..In fact Odissi dance form takes its postures from idols carved on temples and other ancient architecture

@@niharika8288 no it's the other way. They builders took the dancers as reference. Bc back then and sometimes in these days too these ladies dance in the temple for the main deity in the temple.
Try 3,000 years
Much older than that. Might be the first divine smile ever
This made me cry - how she held the flowers over her heart chakra - how she kept creating the number 4 with her feet and legs - how she took energy from the left side and brought it over to the right - how she put her smile into the flowers and sent it up to the creator I was so moved thank you for sharing this it was like it touched something in me from long ago thank you
Oh wow, that's awesome!! I would not have caught that if you hadn't mentioned it. Thank you for that! 🙌
Thank you for your lovely comment and noticing the subtle and incredibly deep layers of the dance! Many blessings
Thank you for your comment, It opened my eyes ❤️
@bubu pipu I dont understand what you mean?
Oh, I cried too to this! Only I didn't realize why, I mean, it's just so gentle and happy and she looks otherworldly and yet human... I am very touched! Amazing!!! I love this.
I certainly hope that Lord Jagganath looks favorably on this lovely offering. What more could a god want?
Случайно включила и застыла как кролик перед удавом. Завораживающая пластика,такого я еще не видела. Браво!
So many bells! They're silent until the dancer wants you to know. That alone blows my mind. This is amazing
The bells are called 'Ghungroo'.
Search 'Shiv shambo/Indian raga' . It's a classical bhartnatyam dance video.

History is one thing, culture is another. The current culture of India is being obliterated by capitalism and hindutva fanatics. It's horrible to watch in real time. Pluralism is dying, historical diversity is being rewritten. It's a tragic tale.

I picked this video out first and then let her watch some others as well. Now she requests to see it every day and says this one is her favorite.

When I watch videos like this I feel like taking a trip to India and learn how to dance from the true masters.Their culture, language, music, food, dancing, costumes is indeed beautiful.
@MsLuminous1111 unfortunately you have some misconceptions. Here dance is not learnt based on their religious preferences. It would be great if people learnt that religion and spirituality are not the same thing. Have a good day.
@MsLuminous1111 just because somebody is muslim doesn't make them middle eastern, sis. there are muslims in india, muslims in malaysia (a predominantly muslim country), indonesia, china, etc.
@MsLuminous1111 India has the largest Muslims population And this dance form is called Odissi dance a cultural dance of Odisha state of India .
This is not about religion, it's our culture.Anyone can learn this
@ Poverty is everywhere seems even in ur mind by ur comment
There are gharanas who teach their styles to their family members. And one famous school in in madras who takes only kids. Many schools do take older people but they are not particular about styles. It takes atleast 2 years to learn basics. And you can perform at earliest 6 year mark.
I miss seeing this kind of dance on TV. I grew up in Leicestershire, and on a Saturday (of memory serves) the regional TV station would play Indian music and dance, usually followed by the latest installment of the epic Mahatbarata. Those sound and images have stayed with me, they're just so beautiful 😍

Bob Dewey, I completely agree with you. Dance and music is universal. Some in the Christian world think dancing is evil, but I beg to differ.
The precision and accuracy of every movement is so impressive. And the pleats on that sari!!
Thank you so much! 🥰❤️🙏 the costume is actually a stitched sari so luckily the pleats always fall perfectly! 🌺
Who could see something like this and not say it is a work of art and has a cultural and universal significance that should be protected? Beautiful, incredible performance. Thank you.
I don’t know why but I am most captivated by how controlled and stable her torso is throughout all the movements. Lord I can’t even stand up without needing a chair.
One of the most gorgeous dance performances I've ever seen in my long years!!!
The dancer is graceful like a spindle. The movements are smooth, like slow waves rolling onto the shore. A very spiritual dance, a very talented artist. Happiness to her and her family.
Maryam, I love your dance. I've seen many artists perform this art, but I've never felt captivated and moved by such a performance. God grant me the blessing to see you perform live. Thank you for making the world even more beautiful for me.

She has the most beautiful, pleasing expression when she dances. Stunning!
I've always loved traditional dances in basically any culture ever, but Indian dance is especially impressive, if only for the blending of the jewelry and music (plus the costumes and makeup are beautiful). And really, dancers like this wonderful lady are so impressive
Every culture is beautiful and wondrous in its history and artful traditions.
Videos like this are the reason why I added several Indian playlists on my channel a few years ago. Living here in the West, I absolutely love exploring all the traditional & contemporary music, dance, film & history that India has to offer. Hypnotic, mystical, epic. Every step she takes is like watching a lotus flower opening to the beat of incredible music.
Phenomenal. What a wonderful culture, so deep into their Spirituality and roots. I wish we, Slavic people were so in tune with our internal (and external) Divinity, but sadly all we have today are guesses and reconstructions of how ancient pagan Slavs *might* have lived their lives... So sad, so much history of our own beautiful roots forgotten and abandoned. Please, people of India, be grateful for Your old ways still blooming and growing as vibrant as it was centuries ago. NEVER let it be forgotten 💖 Love and support from Poland 🇵🇱😍
There is a "Religion of peace" who want to eradicate all of this beauty and consider only themselves to have Spiritual knowledge.

Interesting. Speaking as someone who has never seen anything like this before I have to wonder about all the hand gestures and the footwork. I'm sure there is an intricate story behind the whole dance, It's beautiful to watch.
Those hand gestures are dance moves , symbols of things being talked of in the song and also mudras are signs made for the pleasure of the gods . This dance completes the worship of Jagannath in His temple and sends happy vibes that reverberate across the realm and ensure the welfare of the people there .
It is describing the elephant God Ganesh
