The vine is a fun one to practice, but ejection has more of a "gross motor" kind of feel where in the heat of things, I'd be more likely to pull it off. Way back when, the vine disarms went great in training, but with light sparring, I was more likely to use ejection techniques. Both are extremely valuable, especially when drilling. While I wouldn't THINK I'd use the vine as often, 100% drilling with it builds the muscle memory skills for ANY disarm.

Omg at one point in the beginning lolo wasn’t even looking while he swiftly disarmed his trainee & while talking to the class. Insane!

For the two vine disarms I modify what you showed. For angle one after I thrust at the tip toward my partner I like to create distance and use the tip of my stick at their wrist and grab closer to the tip of my partner's stick for better leverage especially if your partner has a strong grip. For angle two I grab my partner's stick with my palm facing upward more like what you did the second time. I also like to have my hand as close to my partner's stick hand as it gives me better hand placement on the stick once disarmed. I'll often come up to the stick with the thumb of my live hand straight upward (like I'm going to shake your hand) and as I peel my partner's stick away I am able wrap my entire palm on the stick.
In training I prefer the vine disarms, but when we live stick spar with full contact the ejection disarms are more effective though I've used some snake type disarms as well.

Hi great videos, I like the Vine disarms, although they are drills. My concern one- is the difficulty when trying to stop a gravity strike. Two- i think building disarms for 45'/90' horizontal strikes maybe less resistance, or (functional).-fresco

Suggestion only: make the training or stick sparring like just playing with the attack and offense techniques. It's the traditional way of teaching arnis by the masters in the rural areas of the Philippines.

Hello Paul, thank you for another one great video. I have one question: what happens if the opponent punch me with his other arm or kick me during one of these disarms? Where can i find such information?

    • @kalicenter

That’s why you hit first, and hit a lot. I don’t recommend these techniques in a real fight. They’re just pieces of the “art”

I saw that you are touching the sticks with your hand. So is it safe to assume that that technique is not applicable with a bolo since the blade might cut your hand?
