I myself learning the driving for past one month and my simple advice to new learner is to just drive slowly.
Everything what you see on internet or learn from anyone has to be practised by you only. Don't bother about people honking or abusing. If you hit somebody or get hit, it would be much more hurtful than those few words.
Always take the first lesson from qualified trainer because of their experience with new learners they know where the new driver faces the problems. This will save a lot of time for you. Everything else is just practice. Also it helps psychologically. If fears gets into you in the beginning, you may end up leaving the learning altogether.
The more you drive the better you become. One more thing I observed that people who drive bike, learn the car easily because of practical knowledge of gear based vehicles. So even if you don't know driving bike, park someone bike on double stand, start and feel the mechanical process of gear, clutch and breaks at different speeds. It would be very helpful once you touch the car driving system. Learn about the vehicle before driving the vehicle.
About the matter of judgment of clearance while driving, forget everything what people teach you or say to you, just keep enough distance where you feel comfortable, where you are100 % sure that your car is cleared enough from other vehicle and road obstacles. Like I said, forget about people honking or abusing. If you put the 'L' sign, almost everyone will understand and not say anything. Drive for 200-500 kms on open roads, in morning whenever you feel comfortable. These judgment , overtaking everything will come slowly and automatically. You may get stuck for couple of times or more and it will help you understand about your car and these clearances. Waiting for one more month or so to become a good driver is worth the wait.

Never overtake over turns specially on hills. Overtake only when u have clear straight road visible and overtaken vehicle is not expected to change lanes.

You suggest to give horn while overtaking, which I do it as well, however I have been advised not to give horn while overtaking, reason the driver ahead might change the lane after listening to the horn (lets assume he is not viewing the mirror). Please advise. Thanks & regards.

For beginners I would suggest join driving school then drive.. because they have extra clutch and break. Then drive ur own car.
Huge difference in practical and theory.. these videos are helpful after 10 days of driving school

This road was not ideal for teaching this skill. You better show it on a single lane road.. Its much tougher.. and the rules are different as well..
