As an aircraft mechanic. I can attest to the many hours of watching B-52 maintenance runs and having a really hard time staying awake. Something soothing about a ridiculously loud and obnoxious engine.
Some of the best sleep I’ve ever had was on the C-Ramp at KISawyer AFB while guarding B-52s during the a Cold War. Maybe it was the sound. Or the noxious fumes from the JP-4.
I had the privilege of taking a wonderful flight on the B-17 `"Aluminum Overcast" just last year. One of the things that really struck me during the flight was just how quiet it was inside the fuselage. I really expected it to be this just crazy loud, rough ride, and it was the exact opposite. The weather was wonderful, the pilots and crew were superb and the entire flight was fantastic, from the beginning to the all-too-soon end. Honestly, I've flown commercial flights that SHOULD have been that smooth. I can't wait to fly with them again!
Man idk who made AO but Yankee lady was a screaming rattling bucking bronco. Lol. 4 shrieking radials, feet lifting up off the floor from rapid altitude loss and then slamming back down from alt gain, and an airframe like a rattlesnake tail. Lol. But would a hundred percent do it again. Definitely
Same here! I flew in "Nine-o-Nine" with the Collings Foundation many years ago before it was sadly lost to fire. I too was amazed at how quiet the ride was, and the beautiful hum of the engines. My friend flew later on the B24 "Witchcraft" and he said THAT was definitely way nosier and more of an assault on the eardrums :D
I have heard many complaints that the b-25 is very loud in the cockpit with the propellers and r-2600s so near. I guess that even with four engines that extra space and a few hundred less horspower engine, the noise isn't as loud.

My father was a waist Gunner aboard the " Naughty Nan", during bombing missions over Europe. He made it home to start a family, but he died when I was four, so I don't have any concrete memories of him. Hearing the sound of the props spinning and engines firing gives me a sense of a small part of his life.
Nice, my Grandfather and his whole family were almost killed by a american B-17 Bomber when they worked on a field in the west of Germany.... But its ok, lets bomb a family which hasn't done anything against Americans... 👍
Richard Hills also it makes u feel ur in the plane and going on long missions so only thing to pass time (in ur imagination) is work until the b17 is there or the sound cuts out of the vid
This is probably the most hypnotic, mesmerizing and melodic sound I've heard. Other sounds are nice, but this one has lots of tones in it. It's almost musical.
I miss you Brad. Your work I. The production of this video is super. I was in production too ad enjoy the added touches you came up with. This video will always be my go to sleep video.
Whenever I am in a new place or uncomfortable location. for example, having to sleep in my car or in a hotel. I use this sound to just lul myself to sleep. Thinking of flying miles high above the country side at night. Only the moon and stars to show us the way, the gentle movement of the plane over atop clouds. The distant rolling hills below, high up in a "nest" no one can bother you.
Just wanted to thank you for this. A family with two boys lives in the apartment above me and this B-17 sound along with good quality ear buds totally drowns out the noise they make when I want to nap or sleep. I use (view) it everyday.
A Chaps if your wondering it's because during ww2 there were some bomber pilots who saw strange flying objects in the while they were doing a bombing run
I think the key to why this is so sleep-inducing for me is that it makes such great use of my subwoofer. The drone gets into the floorboards of the house and you feel the sound as well as hear it. Very few sleep videos seem to have this unique quality. Alas, I also think that's why I wake up as soon as it ends - ha ha.,
Since I was an adolescent my favourite history topic was World War Two. I was a war junkie and I liked anything and everything about wars. One of the first original computer games I bought with my savings was "B17 Flying Fortress" by the now defunct Microprose. I enjoyed being in a make belief B17 bomber and flying sorties over wartime Germany, it gave me lots of meaning being a tail gunner and shooting down Luftwaffe fighter planes and jets. As I age, I started to suffer from insomnia, and one of the most amusing ways to coax me into sleepiness turns out to be the B17 bomber's engine sound. This video on RUclips tries to recreate the droning sounds of the B17 plane flying in midair. A good two hour clip, it has the ability to calm nerves down and bring about some stoic numbness into the mind.
Sounds just like the old steel bladed fan in my great aunts house. I love it, it's so relaxing. Now if it just had some Glenn Miller or Louie Armstrong playing very faintly in the background!

This is dream airways, departing Reality on a smooth ride to Dream City. Please, unfasten your seatbelts, and fall asleep at our cruising altitude of however high you want. We hope you enjoy the flight.
Grew up in the 50's....this reminded me of the sound of the airport in SF. I loved riding there a couple of times a month when my mom took my dad for a business trip. The sound of all those four engine prop airliners was wonderful to me! thanks for posting this!

I don't know how to break the news but the crew is on the left wing, bailing out with their parachutes. Further, the auto pilot will switch off in 3 minutes and only you are left to land the plane-all alone. Isn't that hilarious?
Wow didn’t know this one existed till tonight. Like it . I’ve got a thing with trains and planes. ASMR for me I guess. Good night 💤😴 all from California.
There is something that just relaxes you, the multiple engines in sync is calming. Like a four cylinder Honda motorcycle engine with all its carburetors just perfect working together. My son s my mechanic and he can make those carburetors come in all together. They sound wonderful !
The mid and high-range oscillating roar/howl of the engines is such a euphoric and dopamine releasing sound to me for some reason. Helps me get right to sleep. Thanks!
I thought about adding effects in the beginning minutes ( like i did with my 'Airline Sound' ) but decided not to. I might do an enhanced version at some poit.
The sounds are made separately and the vids are either vids I take myself or images representing a certain scenario. I am using Windows Movie Maker but will soon upgrade to a newer platform.
Reccently flew in the back of a B-717 and this was all I could think about. Such a noisy plane, but hearing the propellers and engine rumble quickly became soothing.

thanks... I can't seem to stop myself from mixing these sounds. OCD , I guess. I just did an all night long version of Dark and Stormy Night that I will be uploading tomorrow.
To everyone who cannot fall asleep without ambient noise. Try building a dampened room for yourself. Silence is the best ambience. However tiny sounds outside of silence will become very loud. So it must be done well. This is why sleeping in a car with good seals is comfy. Cause it dampens all the outside sounds. My point in this is that sound still stimulates your brain. So that's part of your brain that doesnt get to rest.
When I was 17, I fought in a war. One of these making a nose dive really made a person pray. Had to stay in formation with the rest of the squad. It's something because every pilot up there tried to use the other B 17s as shields against enemy fire. The main problem is that these planes are too big and bulky to manuever. The positive is it could take a lot of machine gun fire as long as it didn't hit something important or hit a pal of yours due to it's bulk. Could have been made a little bit smaller but wasn't to be. Nose dive if the enemy was at you could stall but that plane doing a nose dive helped with escaping. Only guy that got hurt was Enzon the machine Gunner. Never will forget him screaming and seeing his one hand smoking like melted off. His clothes had to be literally cut off with the boys using knives. We we're just kids and didn't know that we could die since we were invincible at that age. Got a taste that day. Those Germans wouldn't give up no matter what you see on TV they
You call this B-17 Bomber, I call this 93 Buick Park Avenue, with broken exhaust and cold engine on the German Autobahn at 4am on my way to my early shift in the soap factory. Rip Bijoux, you've been the best fat boi ever built in Detroit.
It appears Brad has taken a step back from the sound making game. I just want to say thank you so much. I have been listening to this for the past 1000 nights. No joke it must be close. Id be lost without it. Thanks, mate.
In June, 1944, my father-in-law was navigator on a B-17 that crash landed after bombing Berlin. The average life expectancy of an Eighth Air Force B-17 was 11 missions. My father-in-law and his crew were shot down and captured on their 13th mission.
*Siren* *_{Radio} "All personnel, to your battle stations, we have bombers incoming."_* *Fighter noises* *Static* *_"Silver squad, this is Gold Leader. We've got contact with B-17s, 2 o'clock, moving to intercept ,over."_* *Static* *_"Alright Gold Leader, we will provide support. Good luck, go with Gott, over."_*
something about the engines of a war bird does not make me want to sleep. in fact, knowing it's a B17 I keep worrying about AA guns instead of falling my asleep.
Thankful for this sound not only is it calming to the soul but also makes dreams of being into aviation some day and work on planes and progress myself further then just working on cars this has the same feeling as going 160 or so in a car everything just fades away for a second no thoughts or sadness or anger just calming relief from stress of course driving 160 isn’t safe and don’t recommend it but if you been that fast it’s just everything just floats away nothing but the sound of exhaust screaming as you change threw each gear
James, I looked and found THEY ALL LIVED was not in the public domain. I did find something called '49th Parallel' that uses scenes of a U-Boat. I might experiment with it.
IT SNOWED TODAY IN NEW YORK,AND I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD PUT TOGETHER A SNOWING DAY WITH A SNOW BLOWER IN THE DISTANCE,,,,,,,,SOUNDING LIKE ITS FAR AWAY ,,,BUT NOT FAR AWAY,,, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN,,,,,THANKS FOR ANSWERING MY POST
This is completely awesome. Thanks for creating and posting it. Note: do you have the sounds of the USS Missouri firing all of her main guns while we sleep on deck...that would also be kinda soothing!
I love props, and turboprops. I've only flown one war-bird, a 1942 Curtis Fairchild, but it was instant love. Do you have vids for DC3s, or Super Connies, etc.? Bless you for making this: not only am I soothed and calmed; but I feel that you have made a memorial and a fitting tribute to the members of my family who flew in these planes, and did not return to their loved ones and families.
aint it strange that sounds like these can make you sleep. i thought i was alone in finding noises like these cozy to sleep to. i did wonder if it was because i did alot of travelling as a kid and spent alot of time sleeping in the boot of a estate car, also i was a truck driver and the sound of the engine ticking over (when i stopped obviously) would send me off. would have to wake up and switch it off for the sake of the fuel. : )
I have found certain sounds put me right out. If I am a passenger in an car ride over 3 hours I usually fall asleep. Also on any long jet ride I am out like a light. Sounds that saturate in a soothing way just make me drift off.
My father-in-law was a pilot who trained in B-17s, then later in B-29s. We have his 8 mm home movies showing his huge beautiful silver '29 in Puerto Rico during a training flight right after the war.
I loved this sound especially in some old movies where the story takes place on a plane. Also love the visuals as it looks nice and cozy in the cock-pit with the reassuring lites on the instrument panels and all is well into the nites. I say I shall ask the stewerdess on this old bomber for a blanket, pillow and hot chocolate and hopefully catch some zzz'z. Drat,I wish this war would be over.
Pete Mitchell You'd be too slow to even put too much Gs on the wings, unless you're pulling up out of a dive, then yeah, provided you have the strength to do so at certain speeds.
I'm longing for the turboprop sound effects of the Dash 800 or (similar), the part when the pitch of the blades constantly change during taxi. Thus recording is awesome, as well! Great job!
I fell asleep to this one night, woke up the next morning and was half way over Germany.

THATS SKILL FOR MAKING JE SLEEP or just i love love ww2 engine sounds
1:07:40 - that's my favorite part.
King Voxel mine to
King Voxel nono
Ahhh yes
Yeah same I agree
Thanks I almost missed it. Fell asleep.
thankyou for uploading this lol, needed the sfx for a school project.
Good luck with your project ;:^)
Jacob Simpson I wonder if I'm the only one to notice your principality of Zeon / Third Reich banner, awesome and original.
Cody Wills no everyone assumes im a nazi lol
Jacob Simpson I like your profile pic
I love this so much! Very peaceful and relaxing :)
My infant daughter (1month old) loves it!
Only way to make her sleep.
Could you please make an Avro Lancaster ?
It appears Brad has taken a step back from the sound making game. I just want to say thank you so much. I have been listening to this for the past 1000 nights. No joke it must be close. Id be lost without it. Thanks, mate.
Brad sadly passed away.
@@Libera_nos_a_malo really? Shame. At least hes left something we can all enjoy
@@TripleB-nb8en yes. It’s very sad isn’t it?
@@Libera_nos_a_malo it is yes. Thank you for letting me know
Love the sound!! 💞 Good night from Detroit, Michigan
Chrissy_love_animals 💞
Yo that’s creepy we live in the same place
Now that's a damn good one and no copycat with just a different picture. My best regards and compliments to you!
I bet this would give nightmares to anyone who lived in Europe or the UK during WWII !
I don't think civis would know what inside the cockpit sounds like.
Pretty sure the UK is in Europe you know
Regor Haroscoe why the UK?
In June, 1944, my father-in-law was navigator on a B-17 that crash landed after bombing Berlin. The average life expectancy of an Eighth Air Force B-17 was 11 missions. My father-in-law and his crew were shot down and captured on their 13th mission.
then a sudden attack from messerschmidt 109 just to stir things up

BRUCE JEANDUC....I was thinking the same thing, or at least some engine back firing to wake you up from a sound sleep.....
'Messerschmitt 109' is code word for your Bengal Cat jumping onto your head!!
Wake me up when we reach Dresden.

Truth is.. I hate flying, And yet being able to look out a window and see the props spinning be it 4 engine or 2 ... gives me SOOOO much comfort
something about the engines of a war bird does not make me want to sleep. in fact, knowing it's a B17 I keep worrying about AA guns instead of falling my asleep.
+lookhowlongmyusernam Could make for some interesting dreams ;:^)
+Brad McBride yeah lol.
+lookhowlongmyusernam
After your 18th mission the sound of AA is bliss. You know you are where God meant you to be.
+slimchancetoo yeah, no thanks, as an atheist that sounds like a bad deal.
Imagine if you woke up to see an Me262 flying around and firing at you!
DO YOU HAVE THE 49th parallel is it on TCM
IT SNOWED TODAY IN NEW YORK,AND I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD PUT TOGETHER A SNOWING DAY WITH A SNOW BLOWER IN THE DISTANCE,,,,,,,,SOUNDING LIKE ITS FAR AWAY ,,,BUT NOT FAR AWAY,,, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN,,,,,THANKS FOR ANSWERING MY POST
Its in the public domain and I have access to it
I took a few hours of HD video of the snow falling today. I plan to do something with it
HELLO MR MCBRIDE,,,, HAVE YOU FOUND THE STATIONARY HELICOPTER IN THE AIR YET,,,,,,,,,,
This is really great. Just one suggestion, can you do a version where I get served some in flight snacks at the half way mark?
This rules. Very conducive for sleep, study, or work.
Thanks! All my soundscapes are available for download at my website ;:^)
Much appreciated. I'll check it out.
This is completely awesome. Thanks for creating and posting it.
Note: do you have the sounds of the USS Missouri firing all of her main guns while we sleep on deck...that would also be kinda soothing!
imagine showing this to a ww2 101 airborne veteran that has ptsd and insomnia at the same time. i wonder how fast he will fall asleep.
Nope Mann idiot
I love props, and turboprops. I've only flown one war-bird, a 1942 Curtis Fairchild, but it was instant love. Do you have vids for DC3s, or Super Connies, etc.? Bless you for making this: not only am I soothed and calmed; but I feel that you have made a memorial and a fitting tribute to the members of my family who flew in these planes, and did not return to their loved ones and families.
BEYOND BELIEF. I LOVE IT!
This is great.
Thank you.
Although I would appreciate the clouds moving slowly towards the back.....
aint it strange that sounds like these can make you sleep. i thought i was alone in finding noises like these cozy to sleep to. i did wonder if it was because i did alot of travelling as a kid and spent alot of time sleeping in the boot of a estate car, also i was a truck driver and the sound of the engine ticking over (when i stopped obviously) would send me off. would have to wake up and switch it off for the sake of the fuel. : )
I have found certain sounds put me right out. If I am a passenger in an car ride over 3 hours I usually fall asleep. Also on any long jet ride I am out like a light. Sounds that saturate in a soothing way just make me drift off.
totally agree, have subscribed and am going to "chillax" to the sounds. thank you for uploading.
Scientists think it’s because we were hearing noise in our mothers wombs. A constant swooshing and blood flow. So it’s comforting.
My father-in-law was a pilot who trained in B-17s, then later in B-29s. We have his 8 mm home movies showing his huge beautiful silver '29 in Puerto Rico during a training flight right after the war.
The navigator has fallen asleep again and we're lost in the twilight zone
😂😂😂
I can just imagine the subtle movement and radio chatter in the background. Especially as the tension increases approaching the target.
Drat,I wish this war would be over.
thanks for this amazing white noise and ambience, greetings from my workstation
would it kill u to make it do a few Immelmans?
haha... an acrobatic turn? Had to look it up.
You would probably stall pulling up halfway. and go tumbling down a thousand meters before gaining enough speed to recover.
***** you'd rip the wings off trying to do an immelman with a b-17...
Pete Mitchell
You'd be too slow to even put too much Gs on the wings, unless you're pulling up out of a dive, then yeah, provided you have the strength to do so at certain speeds.
I'm longing for the turboprop sound effects of the Dash 800 or (similar), the part when the pitch of the blades constantly change during taxi. Thus recording is awesome, as well! Great job!
I already did ... search for 'Sleep Bomber - Long B-17 Sounds' on YT
A yes there is nothing more relaxing than a b-17 Bomber... love it
play this and (B-17 Ambient) video at the same time .
it feels like you are in a B-17 squadron.
Cool!
Sounds Realistic. And Dreamcore. Even For A Boeing B17 Flying Fortress...
Jesus I woke up just over Germany
I waved.
Lucky you. You could have woken up in Stalag Luft instead.
For you, the war is over!
