My dad was a flight engineer and top turret gunner on B 17 during WW2. Flew 17 missions over Germany. Never talked about it much. Said they just had a job to do and did it. When I took him to airshows though he would tear up when the B 17 flew over. RIP Dad.

sorry my first mission kind of nervous
I was US Navy stationed on Guam when I got word from my mother via the Red Cross that dad had a massive heart attack so I hitched a ride on the first available transport off Guam. to Manila, then on to Hong Kong, Tokyo, Honolulu, San Diego, Charleston, Fort Knox KY, Chicago, and finally Omaha. It was a free ride on the USN so I didn't complain. Some of it was in the cargo area of a C160. Not exactly a first class trip to get home in time to see my dad one last time. I spent 18 hours in the air listening to this haunting sound, but I made it. He died the next day.
Was it worth it to you to have those 4 hours with your Dad?
Datttsnake Not only was it worth it to me to have those last hours with dad, It was worth it to be there for my mom.... and my seven brothers and six sisters. One of the few times when we've all been together at the same time. Paid leave and a free ride round trip? Sure it was worth it.

my father in law was a tail gunner on a 17.....shot down over germany on 13th mission. taken pow and escaped during black hunger march. got a book written about him called "Valor, Guts and Glory". He was a good man that gave me a wonderful wife going on 34 years now. RIP Slats Slayton!!

On a maximum fuel load, even fully armed, a B-17G could stay aloft for nearly 11 hours.

Flew 7 missions bombing Germany before being shot down. They made it back to England & crash landed. Amazing courage all those boys had! Thank you!
Most dangerous part of the plane. Crash land while you're still in that gun and that's it. Almost impossible to get out on your own, crammed in there with massive cases of ammunition, aiming between your legs, and nothing but plexiglass to protect you.
As a kid, I grew up in the ghettos of Cleveland Ohio. We lived near railroad tracks that went east to west below us and north to south above us. Nothing was more soothing than the sound of speeding trains on quiet winter nights. Occasionally a plane would fly overhead on quiet nights.It made me feel safe in the warmth of my bed. This is the closest thing to that memory that I have found . Very much appreciated .
I live next to a railroad and damn I love that sound at night when a trains goes by.
same here. soothing. where i am now, there are a few tracks that are further than walking distance but i can hear/feel their quiet rumble at night when it's quiet. horn blasting at intersections. yeah. it's soothing

These sounds are so cool! My Dad flew a B24 called the Black Swan, with that as nose art! He was 23 years old and was the pilot! He was the oldest guy on the crew! The rest were 18 to 20 years old. He flew 28 combat missions bombing German targets! He saw many of his fellow brave B24 bombers go down! He was my hero as a kid! He always told us how he wished he was in a B17 since they could fly higher and were harder to shoot down! I am going to love listening to this video as I sleep tonight!

My father was a B-17 pilot during World War II. He later flew F 84 thunder jets in Korea. I miss him. He was one small piece of the greatest generation.

Amazing sound that is one of the few that actually helps with my tinnitus. My dad was a tail gunner on B-17's in WW2 so this is pretty cool. If you've ever been to Dover AFB, one of Dad's planes ("Sleepy Time Gal") greets you at the gate. Thanks again.

Its the timing of the engines its like a steady humming .
This is perfect!. You can hear very different sounds. First the wind, then every propeller, and last how the vibration of the engines hit the fuselage. Great!!

What you don't get is the rumbling that occurs when the engines is slightly out of sync, syncs up, and de sync again, there is not a singl video with that effect made yet, only real videos from real planes have that.

I do occasionally spice up my nights with different sounds but I always come back to this one. The frequency is just DEAD RIGHT!

I have heard of a LOT of things being used to help with sleep, water sounds, rain, home showers, white noise, fans, even clothes dryers! But I have NEVER heard of a B-17 Flying Fortress being used as a sleep aid! BRAVO on your creativity and expertise!! 🙃🤔🥴

I live in germany and every time i go on a country orientation trip the guides spend 90%of the time talking about what americans bombed. god bless
justin mccoy that's just the way it became mate, the allies won so they wrote the history. Germany became the bad guys and all of their "evil" moments obviously were ignored. If a movie was made about a fw 200 crew like movies about b17 crews are made, it would be considered a shocking and maybe even controversial thing.
Its seriously sad that people believe that all German soldiers were nazis, if you protested against hitler, you would get sent in one of the camps, so you had to hide your opposition to him
It's not like the allies covered these facts up or tried to demonize the Germans, it's just what is taught to children to prevent this from happening again.
If you're a historian or hobbyist, the fact that the German Army was largely a professional army fighting a total war of annihilation is important, interesting, etc, if you're a history teacher with only a week to cover WWII, that's another fact. There is no doubt that WWII taught us a lot about technology, diplomacy, ideology, and humanity.
Another reason why WW2 is perceived this way, is because WWI already describes the lessons of conventional warfare based off of nationalism, imperialism, etc.
World War II is why there is peace today, and it potentially prevented a larger scale conflict and/or a nuclear war.
You don't think the United Nations, European Union, the Alliances formed during WWII, or the crippling damage that happened to Europe didn't contribute to the fact that the USSR and the west didn't go to war following WWII? Remember, the USA had the bomb for 4 years before the USSR, and they didn't have the same stockpiles nor' the reach to strike the U.S. until 56' or 57', and the U.S. knew that the Russians would get their hands on it. The atrocities of WWII prompted the world to fear Nazism and extreme nationalism. It isn't the 'sole' reason. The world is a complicated place. Nukes, which was a part of WWII, laid the foundation for peace today. And just look at the numbers, it's peace compared to before 1945. Sure, nukes are the main reason, but it's ludicrous to think it's the sole reason.
Well, the Americans bombed factories and rail yards and only strategic targets. The British bombed everything, mostly cities. So next time tell your little guide to get his facts straight before he spouts off about the Americans again.

My dad was a B-24 pilot and as I was looking over his log book I noticed he did 3 runs over Ploesti as well as several runs over Schweinfurt, with several over Bologna, and many runs over Austria and Italy. He then became the personal pilot for some General in Greece as well as doing the Berlin Airlift. He and his crew had many reunions after the war and were very close.
Great effect. I've had a real hard time sleeping since a serious accident I was in almost 3 years ago. Lost a leg and shattered my spine.bunch of surgery's I have feeling in my remaining leg and with a prosthetic leg and crutches I'm able to walk a little bit here and there but the constant pain wakes me up at least 6 or 7 times a night, this is so soothing I'm asleep b4 my head hits the pillow, the only problem is it relaxes me so much that I'm trying to shake it off all day long. Works almost to good; Accomplished what no sleeping pill could . thanks man

I just close my eyes and make like I'm in the cargo hold of the bomber knowing it's an 8 hour flight. The sweet smell of engine oil and leather lingers, the gush of the outside air filtering inside the tiniest spaces makes it a bit chilly, but that's OK because I got my warm sleeping bag.

This is what I dream of every night. Except I'm on search and rescue missions for the stranded and abandoned, and my best friend is driving while I pickup any people we find and stay with them in the cargo hold. In my dreams, we've done a full year's worth of work.
Thank You Hazel Tom. Since I can remember I've always enjoyed these sounds to help me sleep better, so I've had plenty of nights where my imagination would work with the sound in order for a specific scenario to quicker put me to sleep. Plus I like to write.
I have found that the ability to visualize brings on sleep onset. Through a little research I discovered that we 'imagine' and we 'dream' in the same area of our brains. This is the basic idea behind the sounds on my channel and on my website.
My father was a bombardier/navigator in B-17's, in WW2. In life, he spoke very little, about the war..we weren't close../ years now, since his death. Much to be proud of, as time has gone past. This brings me closer to what he was, and did- in the war.

This brings me memories of flying on a United. States. , Air Force , Commercial propeller aircraft . To Panama. Canal Zone , Howard AFB , Kobie Army base . From Miami Florida . It took just as long as this whole video in flight time . Do to not being a modern jet . And the propeller sounds were very much the same sound. But with four propellers the smooth ride just above the shipping lane made for a great ship watching 8 hour and 5 minute flight. To top it off the military pilot did a three pointed landing . That hit just like he was landing on a aircraft carrier . Everyone felt their Stomach bounce , like it was to make up for the very smooth no bouncing or strange flight distance what so ever. And after that 8 hour flight it was great to just get off at a new and very different place . That the heat and humidity took a little while to get use to it from from the hot dry Phoenix Arizona and Fort Worth Texas. And it was nice to get back to United States after almost 10 years in tropical Jungle of Tripple canopy and both oceans and massive rivers of mountain rivers. That had jungle fighting to take over the banks of all the rivers edges that were hidden under the bushy trees . over the river . That had large iguanas that jumped to the rivers and walked or ran over the water . That is why they were called them Jesus lizards . And scared those who were not use to the sudden noise of a heavy landing on the water then seeing large Lizards standing up and moving as fast as a very fast snake with hands and legs standing up as it rushed freely in any direction. And had its mouth open to help him breathing as he performed as his long genetic family had done millions of years ago . But were much bigger then today. That can get to over six foot with its tail . This is wonderful. I found it yesterday and added it to my favorite sleep sounds. The high notes seem to stimulate the frontal lobe while the lower drone smooths out activity of the hypo-campus. mmmmmmmm sweet dreams.

+Brad McBride Let's add to that. Make the flak a series of dull thumps, about 30 minutes in. Interspersed with the tinny chatter of the captain checking in with the crew. I already visualize myself hunkered down in my fur lined flight suit against the December chill of the air as we climb to cruising altitude for the trip to Germany over the Channel and feet dry over France, when times were simpler and duty was much clearer. I can immerse myself into pretty much any scenario, but this video promises so much when I close my eyes.

This one is my diamond in a field of sapphires. I had a metal box fan as a child and thrilled to falling asleep to it on a hot summer nights because I would make believe I was on a bomber. It sounded just like this. So imagine my joy when I came upon your creation here. Thank you so much. This is wonderful and I actualy fell asleep to it last night. Out like a light and didn't move. Rather sore neck upon waking. My fault for lying on the couch...lol...testament to the deep sleep it induced. :)

How cool is this. This is way before my time. I was in the Air Force. My favorite plane was the C130.
A few years ago I 'rode' in a B-17, jezzz, what a ride, the smoke, the noise, guns all over the place, the bombs, it cost $400, worth every penny, take ear plugs, it was so stable, i crawled from the nose to the tail, what a plane, look for the collings foundation, they fly around the country, B-24, B-17, P-51, give rides,, again, take ear plugs, prices vary according to airplane, may there never again be wars.
Yes may never again be wars, but dude I would be lucky to live in the US for that... Here in France I Don t know any avaliable trip like that. You can fly in an old fuga magister jet (former planes of la patrouille dd France) but it coast a liver lol
Sadly the Collings 909 was lost in a crash. Now I don't think they are giving rides anywhere. Hopefully that will change.
My grandfather was a groundsman in the RAF for 40 years and has operated in many bases around the UK during WW2 until the Falklands war in 1982. He seen Hurricanes, Spitfires, P51 Mustangs, Halifax bombers, Lancaster bombers and B17’s and B24’s take off.
Of course many of the brave men he speaks to in the messes, canteens and at the base either never returned, got killed on landing back, especially the B17 crews which had heavy losses always or were dead in the aircraft.
This is so great for work! Slip on my headphones and and the chatter of the office is gone; plus the low freq drone doesn't alert my companions that I am tuning them out like music sometimes would; even if I take off the headphones you can't hear what I am listing to. The Best.
Of all the sounds I have tried this one makes me get good deep sleep.

No, just a regular jet but, since I had never been on a plane before in my life LOL, I was scared senseless, so it seemed like everything was magnatized like a billion

I am one of the medical officers for the B-17 in the Commemorative Air Force. So I have flown recently and many times aboard the B-17 on flights across the United States at air shows. I can tell you that the REAL experience of flying in a B-17 is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH louder than this video portrays. Still, this is a fun video.
18 year old kids had to fall asleep with this as a constant. For anyone who ever has to fall asleep to the sounds of war, they have my absolute respect. I am thankful for those who give their lives to those who never have to live through it. I give utmost respect to those who do, no matter what army they fight for, or who they protect. Thanks. I have done some experimental ASMR recordings... murmurs and whispers and such. They are fine except my problem is tinnitus induced insomnia and ASMR does nothing to mask the sounds.

I don't care how accurately or not this evokes being in a bomber or how sleep inducing it is - I use it to mask environmental noise and the low frequencies in the video are key in very effectively masking the types of sound I want to eliminate. This is a video that genuinely contributes to my psychological wellbeing.

On the way back to base after a successful bombing run, P51 Mustangs on both sides escorting us, all crew save the pilots asleep, and we rest too. Even the pilot gets to snooze when his eager co-pilot takes the reins of this dragon
My grandpa was a waist gunner and instrument specialist on the B-17, the Fightin’ Bitin’. I love this so much, makes me feel close to him.
Imagine... flying from Europe to America in 1945 after fighting an unjust enemy and defeating them. Completely worn out, you put your trust in the pilots to get you home. Under the side gun bays which are now covered with tarp, you lay on some duffel bags and dream of better times to come. The sounds of the great engines seem to hum a familiar tune. A song that brings peace and comfort. Brad McBride was ahead of his time, and I miss him.

Wow! This is truly amazing. Just when I thought that I was probably the only person who ever thought that the sound of airplanes/propellers were soothing and therefore, a good way to take a nap, I run across your video! I was trying very hard to locate the sound of the type of airplane that was used in the 50's TV program "Skyking" because when I was little, I used to hear them flying overhead and I would listen to it until I couldn't hear it anymore and always found it really soothing. Since I couldn't find a recording the type of plane I just mentioned, I accidentally discovered that I could re-produce the sound very closely on a Korg Monotribe Synthesizer,(ruclips.net/video/Dj6PGWzVFa0/видео.html ) but it's just not the same. I'd probably Still sleep through the action. While on the "Last raid on Tokio" one '29 opened its bomb-bay, and another '29 was directly under-neath it. That had to have happened in the 8th where bombs actually were dropped by one of our '17s to another, but I HOPE NOT!

my primary interest lies within helping people who can benefit from this technology in profound ways. For example my friend Henry, a 3 yr quadriplegic stuck in a bed 24/7. His response to VR was so awesome we had to try and help others. Now Doernbechers children's hospital is on board and we plan on filming their therapy dog in VR soon. Exciting times indeed!

This really does help me sleep well I blast it on my stereo so loud that it sounds like it's in person and I sleep soundly the whole time I'm about to put it on right now and pass out with my fan on too it really works

I use this video every night to put me to sleep, as I'm clinically insane and have sleep problems (not quite insomnia, but still pretty bad though) which is annoying. However, this works like a charm. It will always put me to sleep or let me weave the threads of my sanity back together and calm me down. I often listen to this before going to sleep and when I wake up, so I can stay subtle on both occasions; but I also use it when I run out of medication. This phenomenon that you have experienced, in short summary is real. Now I will explain it.
At 2 hours mark the airplane noise is on a stage where it is more static, less clear, and has more white noise.
The airplane noise is indeed over-recorded over something: that could be entirely different track, or could as well be the same original track that, for example, was recorded in a real plane while being surrounded by real passengers.
.
For approximately 3 seconds after the timestamp of 4:04:43 it sounds as if multiple males could be heard. Rewinding it can confirm that this is real. It could indeed be real singing, or could be airplane mechanic sounds combined with the mind trick where it allows itself to "finish painting the rest of the picture".
If you want to downplay that the mind can create some picture, or if you need more evidence to support my previous statement whether mind can "paint any picture" at all, here is the example.

Within 10 seconds from this timestamp of 5:45:50 you can experience a bizarre phenomenon (although it may not work if you don't wear headphones/earphone). If you listen with your ears and perceive sounds, there is nothing much to be heard. But if you "listen" with your mind, then it begins to feel as if someone is talking in the background (approximately 5 seconds in).
.
If you began to wonder whether all those sounds are mindgames after all, or if you began to downplay the existence of the actual recorded voices, this example would help. Approximately 1 second after this timestamp some female speaking can be heard. It can be validated by rewinding and confirming it sufficient number of times. 6:15:19.

Therefore based on those provided examples of evidence it would be possible to conclude that the video has both prerecorded voices, and the favorable conditions for mindgames.
.
I will add a few more points about the white noise and its related noises. While it is known that different frequency noises can induce certain effects, there are noises that really make the listener perceive something. To test whether it is prerecorded, or perceived by the mind, consider rewinding that part for a sufficient number of times. If each time when you rewind you hear something different, then don't freak out and keep listening. Or you might even want to save that timepoint for future reference. This particular video has many of such instances as well as prerecorded sounds, so this mixup can easily confuse and cause uncertainty.

If you are in a haunted place or if your environment is particularly "active", you would be hearing more of such "personal" sounds. Personal sounds are the sounds which makes sense to your mind, but may not make as much sense to other listeners. From such sounds you can hear all kinds of things: from communication between people, messages to yourself from someone, or general ambient environment, such as angelic singing that you heard. It is not uncommon when in funeral homes when a white noise source (such as a noisy fan) is switched on before any other sound sources start (for example, before the music/talking/singing start), then for someone it is possible to "hear" similar angelic choir. And if the fan is switched off, then such singing stops, but when left for "long enough", then multiple listeners can tell even the tone of those quires, or when different gender participants join in.

Or if you keep a water tap open, for example if you fill a bathtub or just leave the tap running for whatever reasons (sensitive topic to regions scarce of water, by the way), then it would not be uncommon to perceive water sounds in a way as if a relative might be calling you, a door might be ringing, or some other appliance or phenomenon that normally requires your attention might be sounding so.
.
The sounds of such planes interiors are perceived dynamically: first appears lower pitched, but later higher pitched. Soon you can get used to it, but if you pause it, take a break, and start again, then it would be detectable again. That is a "Shepard tone". An infinitely changing sound without reaching the changing destination can be called a Shepard tone. The airplane is generating Shepard tone.

Perhaps it's the combination of all of those factors are making you hear those angelic singing choirs. That would be white noise induced imagination, combined with prerecorded/overrecorded background real voices, and "active" environment where the listening takes place (now, when I think of it, that might've sounded a little creepy if you are frightened by this "paranormal" phenomenon).
I work in a brewery and the sound of the bottles and the machines always makes me light headed and buzzed in the morning but this works great as wel!
I have really bad tinnitus, and this helps my mind relax and enjoy a deep sleep, thank you so much

Very close to the low frequency pulse some study said was best for sleep. But a lot more natural than the electronic created sounds.

This is my most effective air craft sleep inducer. Some times I think of a wounded airman that has been put in a sleeping bag to ward off shock and given a pin of morphine . Battles over load dropped ,flying back over allied territory now. Drifting in and out of la la land- I’m gonna make if they can get this crate on the ground , but we have a great crew. Everything’s going to be ok.

Back in the mid 1960's I flew from Vandenberg, AFB Calif to Hawaii on a Prop plane...it took like 18 hours.... be careful what you wish for !

Oh my goodness, never thought I stumble upon this as "sleep music". I was listening to one of your beautiful Smoky Mountain Rain (there's a song title for ya!) videos, decided to look to see if you had any with loon sounds. Found this. Hubby crewed B52s for years, and always talks about the almost hypnotic effect of all those engines roaring for hours - staying fully alert wasn't always easy and you can't go falling asleep while flying a B52!! He'll go full into flight tales when he hears this! I'll have to play it for him BEFORE I want to sleep, lol,!
as I fall asleep I find myself longing for those cold flights on C-130s over Iraq and Afghanistan. The noise is too loud to be able to talk to your guys to your left or your right. You're packed in tight against each other with your gear piled under your feet. Resting my head against my buddies, in a silence of sorts, wondering what the next place will be like, thinking of chow, thinking of home, thinking that I really need to pee. Some of the best sleep I've ever had.
