Very cool! I love when interviews are candid, but because everyone is so knowledgable of the subject matter, it ends up being a much deeper dive. Awesome stuff, Justin!
Thank you for this interview. I discovered the Lemon Twigs earlier this year when one of your videos made its way into my RUclips algorithm. I don't know why I clicked it , but the things said in that and one other person's video got me investigating. At first I was resistant and wrote them off, but--almost against my will--I soon got hooked on the chords, melodies, harmonies, live performances, attention to detail, musical talent, intelligence, humility, positivity, work ethic, and pleasant/friendly demeanor. There's something for everyone. How can you not become a fan? Thanks again!
I saw them that night at Concorde, in Brighton! They, and Tchotchki, were fantastic. It was such an amazing evening, and the encore was beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing them again 🙂
An interview I’d been hoping for and looking forward to seeing. It did not disappoint. It’s a question of right time and right place for me to see them! A top quality JHRA interview. Thank you all.
These guys really are the best band of thier generation. I was at the concorde gig so made this interview all the more pertinent. Love your interview style Justin, your knowledge of music and genuine passion really shines through here.
The sad thing is, most of their generation doesn't even know they have the Lennon/McCartney of their era. It's hard to even express what great writers they are. They may be, for me, in the top 10 pop/rock songwriters, period, at this point. Are they working within the frame of a certain era's sound? Yes, they limit themselves a bit by pretty specifically remaining between the 60's and 70's - but they're such great writers, they EARN their rent within that space by being just as good - and often better - than the very best of that era. While I love that they're not facing much pressure in terms of extraordinary fame, I'm genuinely shocked that more people haven't recognized what they have with the Twigs right now. P.S. When I say they "limit" themselves, I don't mean that in a negative sense; I merely mean that they could, if they wanted, have a more modern sound and aesthetic image and I'm sure the songs would still be as strong. I wouldn't even be surprised if they do that as an experiment once - but they don't *have* to, as there will always be fans of that era - and of good songwriting, period. So if they remain what they are forever, I'm totally fine with that.
Great hang with the Twigs! That footage of them as little kids is pretty amazing…they sounded like pros even at that age! Clearly they were super influenced by their dad. The way they talk about their approach to recording is just so second nature…really fun chat! I can’t wait to see them in Minneapolis in a few weeks. Thanks, Justin!
Couldn't believe it when I saw JHRA was interviewing TLT!!! They blew my mind when they did Sweet Vibrations in Jersey City. I can't believe they don' think it sounds great, because IT DOES! Looking forward to seeing the twigs for the 5th time this year in Toronto this weekend!
No way, Justin!! LETS GO! So happy to see you connect and interview the Lemon Twigs!! Love Everything Harmony and the new album, A Dream Is All We Know!
Well, this was really fun and interesting, so much great hair, and the best 'Again' ever 🙂 You work really well as an interviewer, I think, in part because other artists always seem so comfortable around you.
I loved everything about that episode. Cool band, smiling brothers (for a change), songwriting, funny arrangements, vocal harmony, cello x6, tape recording, old venues, 12 strings, mono string, modified old synth, hairy drummer, violin bass, a beach boy cover, a counter with tons of bottles, interesting interview, nice footage of old stuff. Perfect. 10/10
Fantastic interview - musicians talking music to musicians is sooo great to watch. So glad you mentioned Jellyfish too (so much commonality), though it seemed like they weren’t that aware of them - which I find hard to believe!!
There needs to be a Justin Hawkins / Lemon Twigs collaboration of some kind, maybe just the three of them writing a song together or Justin producing them or some sort of working together in whatever capacity =) Great to see Reza in this btw !
Excellent video Justin, very enjoyable. I couldn’t help noticing the Matt Snowball flight cases, I knew his father Eric and for a brief time worked in his music shop, reminded me of great times 😊
Love the vibe of their songs and this is the first time I have seen the Twigs and they do have exactly the uplifting, positive, feelgood vibe that I picked up from the music, great to see, thank you Hawkins, good Sir.
Don't suppose there's any chance of the darkness coming back down to the cliffs pavilion in southend. I wasn't old enough to appreciate them last time they came down. Am hoping they come back in the next few years.
I listen to The Move. The Move are good, and I'm an 80s indie kid, The Fall covered The Move is how I discovered them and how I found out about Wizard and ELO etc.
17:44 That's like someone flipping that "I'd rather cry in a Rolls Royce than laugh on a bicycle" thing. Personally I've been privileged enough to do both a lot of laughing and a a lot of crying on a Raleigh Chopper (especially the day I crashed, whilst laughing, into the biggest stingy-nettle bush to ever be seen in Biggin Hill, Kent). Good old Biggun! :0)
I see someone just brought that big purple tour bus you used to use. Got it at a bargain for 4k. Found it on RUclips just before this 😊 And great job you have a real talent for it
I used ti live in Brighton and went there almost weekly, my favorite gigs were Stereolab who are also painfully retro, and Anthony Rother who's the polar opposite. My mates used to DJ there before/after too so many great memories.
This is what music interviews / journalism should always be - enthusiastic people with actual knowledge asking interesting questions.
I read this as aesthetic people asking interesting questions and honestly I agree🤣
@@fedeficiency6386 both are true! 😂
Exactly! more interviews out in the field
Very cool! I love when interviews are candid, but because everyone is so knowledgable of the subject matter, it ends up being a much deeper dive. Awesome stuff, Justin!
Justin talking to the twigs and mentioning jellyfish. Bliss.

In less than a year they became my favourite current band ever.. Some all-timer songwriting and just great guys overall. Awesome interview:)
This was delightful. They’re innovative, very talented and down to earth. Love The Lemon Twigs. Awesomeness! Thank you Justin ❤️
The LT's definitely take inspiration from The Beatles / John Lennon / George Harrison. Such a breath of fresh air in the current music industry
Beach Boys harmonies

Justin, you have a talent for interviewing. Keep up the good work.
That's my footage at 4:38, glad to see it put to good use. Full vid on my channel for anyone interested!
Their hair-dos are gold! 🙂

Justin this type of interviews well could be the next chapter of your channel..!!
Well, this was really fun and interesting, so much great hair, and the best 'Again' ever 🙂 You work really well as an interviewer, I think, in part because other artists always seem so comfortable around you.
It's interesting that they are making it in England first - this is pretty much how every band in the 60's did it. Great interview!
I love this interview. They seem so genuine ❤
Enjoyed the interview, Justin. The Twigs were amazing at the Electric in Brixton recently.
Yer a natural at this checking out cool bands ~ well done 👏 sir
These guys are really special. Great interview!

Me too. At first I thought that maybe he didn't like them but I think you're right that he didn't seem to know them. Odd indeed.
Going to see them next week in Montreal!!! So excited
There needs to be a Justin Hawkins / Lemon Twigs collaboration of some kind, maybe just the three of them writing a song together or Justin producing them or some sort of working together in whatever capacity =) Great to see Reza in this btw !
They truly are the best band in 2024; great interview.

Love these guys. And an R. Stevie Moore shout-out at 24:40! Justin needs to interview him for sure, DIY music legend.
I listen to The Move. The Move are good, and I'm an 80s indie kid, The Fall covered The Move is how I discovered them and how I found out about Wizard and ELO etc.

Justin, you should have gotten them all to listen to Jellyfish at the end, they'd have been blown away!
Been waiting a while for this one, you teased it on Instagram like over a week ago
Cheers for this!
