- I've been away working on a new album with The Darkness but I caught up with my favourite band, The Lemon Twigs for a "chatty chat" in Brighton. We talked music, towels and 19th century stained glass. What's not to like?
Thanks to my friend Gareth Parker for riding with me.
'Dreams on Toast' - the new Darkness album - comes out in March - when we'll be embarking on a UK tour!

This was delightful. They’re innovative, very talented and down to earth. Love The Lemon Twigs. Awesomeness! Thank you Justin ❤️
That's my footage at 4:38, glad to see it put to good use. Full vid on my channel for anyone interested!
I saw them that night at Concorde, in Brighton! They, and Tchotchki, were fantastic. It was such an amazing evening, and the encore was beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing them again 🙂
Been waiting for this one, and it didn't disappoint! Perhaps The Darkness should bring these lads on tour...
Very cool! I love when interviews are candid, but because everyone is so knowledgable of the subject matter, it ends up being a much deeper dive. Awesome stuff, Justin!
These guys really are the best band of thier generation. I was at the concorde gig so made this interview all the more pertinent. Love your interview style Justin, your knowledge of music and genuine passion really shines through here.
The sad thing is, most of their generation doesn't even know they have the Lennon/McCartney of their era. It's hard to even express what great writers they are. They may be, for me, in the top 10 pop/rock songwriters, period, at this point. Are they working within the frame of a certain era's sound? Yes, they limit themselves a bit by pretty specifically remaining between the 60's and 70's - but they're such great writers, they EARN their rent within that space by being just as good - and often better - than the very best of that era. While I love that they're not facing much pressure in terms of extraordinary fame, I'm genuinely shocked that more people haven't recognized what they have with the Twigs right now. P.S. When I say they "limit" themselves, I don't mean that in a negative sense; I merely mean that they could, if they wanted, have a more modern sound and aesthetic image and I'm sure the songs would still be as strong. I wouldn't even be surprised if they do that as an experiment once - but they don't *have* to, as there will always be fans of that era - and of good songwriting, period. So if they remain what they are forever, I'm totally fine with that.
Great vibe here
Very very good interview. Great job, Justin!
They truly are the best band in 2024; great interview.
I used ti live in Brighton and went there almost weekly, my favorite gigs were Stereolab who are also painfully retro, and Anthony Rother who's the polar opposite. My mates used to DJ there before/after too so many great memories.
I love this is only part 1! The Lemon Twigs rule
Funnily enough, having mentioned Pink Floyd, David Gilmour has a place a couple of miles along the coast.
The original Concorde was at the other end of Marine Drive near the pier. Was famous for once having hosted Jim Carey, the UK's first line dancing night t and the launchpad for Fat Boy Slim
Brilliant last two albums, influenced by the great Beach Boys and The Beatles.
And Michael mentions R Stevie Moore too ❤
finally some love for reza! making LA proud
I'll be seeing Cardiacs at the Concorde 2 Brighton in 3 weeks 😊
A lot of people like to know musicians net worths, but I think knowing their parents net worths would be much more revealing information about the music industry and fame as a whole.
Justin are you familiar with 'Bad News'? British version of This is Spinal Tap...Rick Mayall, Ade Edmondson
Great interview and seem like great guys. I dont even their meat & veg in those tight jeans tho
Concorde 1, it is gone.
First. Hey Justin 🤙
Church Bells is a shit song unfortunately

This is what music interviews / journalism should always be - enthusiastic people with actual knowledge asking interesting questions.
I read this as aesthetic people asking interesting questions and honestly I agree🤣
@@fedeficiency6386 both are true! 😂
Exactly! more interviews out in the field
Great interview! Musicians should interview musicians 💚
Thank you for this interview. I discovered the Lemon Twigs earlier this year when one of your videos made its way into my RUclips algorithm. I don't know why I clicked it , but the things said in that and one other person's video got me investigating. At first I was resistant and wrote them off, but--almost against my will--I soon got hooked on the chords, melodies, harmonies, live performances, attention to detail, musical talent, intelligence, humility, positivity, work ethic, and pleasant/friendly demeanor. There's something for everyone. How can you not become a fan? Thanks again!
Justin this type of interviews well could be the next chapter of your channel..!!
Justin talking to the twigs and mentioning jellyfish. Bliss.
Justin, you have a talent for interviewing. Keep up the good work.
In less than a year they became my favourite current band ever.. Some all-timer songwriting and just great guys overall. Awesome interview:)
An interview I’d been hoping for and looking forward to seeing. It did not disappoint. It’s a question of right time and right place for me to see them! A top quality JHRA interview. Thank you all.
Bloody excellent! Thankyou.
Yer a natural at this checking out cool bands ~ well done 👏 sir
Their hair-dos are gold! 🙂
and genitals being suffocated
Well, this was really fun and interesting, so much great hair, and the best 'Again' ever 🙂 You work really well as an interviewer, I think, in part because other artists always seem so comfortable around you.
Enjoyed the interview, Justin. The Twigs were amazing at the Electric in Brixton recently.
Looks like they all nicked Robert Plants jeans from 1975😂
Yes! Been waiting for this one, they were amazing in Brighton! 🎉
The LT's definitely take inspiration from The Beatles / John Lennon / George Harrison. Such a breath of fresh air in the current music industry
Love the lemon twigs
Fucking mozart brothers
Fascinating. Thanks Justin. Well presented ❤
I love this interview. They seem so genuine ❤
When is a Lemon Twigs / The Darkness collaboration coming? Would love to hear two of my favorite bands unite
Great band 60s 70s throwback amazing.
This was great!
Loved the interview's content! 👏👏👏👏👏
(and Michael's jumper too😅🎶🎵🎶🎵)
It's so cool to listen to people with such vast musical knowledge
❤🍋🍋❤
Insta-click. The Twigs need more musicians as interviewers. Justin's the exact right kind.
YESSSS!! Been awaiting this.. GOOD MAN..and GOOD MEN.. see you in Cambridge
Don't suppose there's any chance of the darkness coming back down to the cliffs pavilion in southend. I wasn't old enough to appreciate them last time they came down. Am hoping they come back in the next few years.
It's interesting that they are making it in England first - this is pretty much how every band in the 60's did it. Great interview!
These guys are really special. Great interview!
What lovely lads!
Loving Justin Hawkins more n more…I realise I love the English sense of humour. The lads are passionate, will have to have a listen.
There needs to be a Justin Hawkins / Lemon Twigs collaboration of some kind, maybe just the three of them writing a song together or Justin producing them or some sort of working together in whatever capacity =) Great to see Reza in this btw !
Cool interview Justin 😎 The Lemon Twigs we're so chill 👌
I went to that show in Brighton 😂🎉❤
What brand of strings do they use?
Justin, you should have gotten them all to listen to Jellyfish at the end, they'd have been blown away!
Alternative Band Name: The Lionel Messis :D
Great interview, great band! Love the way they think about making music.
All right! This will be fun! 🙂
They really are the best.........
Is Justin really tall..... or these guys really small?
Both
Justin is actually 8’2”.they are both over 6’.
I thought the exact same thing.
They were all born with dwarfism and everything around them has been built really small to make them look bigger.
The Twigs are from New York so they look small because of all the skyscrapers.
Justin is from Lowestoft which was settled by Vikings. Hope that helps… 😊
Yyyyeeesssss! It’s here!
Great hang with the Twigs! That footage of them as little kids is pretty amazing…they sounded like pros even at that age! Clearly they were super influenced by their dad. The way they talk about their approach to recording is just so second nature…really fun chat! I can’t wait to see them in Minneapolis in a few weeks. Thanks, Justin!
Totally cool Justin. The Twigs rock!
I listen to The Move. The Move are good, and I'm an 80s indie kid, The Fall covered The Move is how I discovered them and how I found out about Wizard and ELO etc.
Loved the Thekla show. What a treat.
And thanks Justin for concentrating my mind in the Lemon Twig's direction.
Positive Earworm territory
Excellent video Justin, very enjoyable. I couldn’t help noticing the Matt Snowball flight cases, I knew his father Eric and for a brief time worked in his music shop, reminded me of great times 😊
26:03 "Short and Sweet....just like you guys!😀" That's what you should have said right there, Justin.
Other than that, a good interview. Also, why didn't you all sit down? Could've been more relaxing. Was Danny Ayala off camera? Too bad you missed their dad, he might've been fun to interview. He might *still* be fun to talk to, just him.
I loved everything about that episode. Cool band, smiling brothers (for a change), songwriting, funny arrangements, vocal harmony, cello x6, tape recording, old venues, 12 strings, mono string, modified old synth, hairy drummer, violin bass, a beach boy cover, a counter with tons of bottles, interesting interview, nice footage of old stuff. Perfect. 10/10
Justin, did you see Taylor Swift and Travis kelce singing to IBIATCL at the us open?! 😂 Must be surreal.
I know you aren't a fan of doing press, but there would have been a time when you were over the moon that the press were first interested. What happened between those two points in time, that changed your view on them?
Been waiting for this :-)
Very cool interview! Got the inside story. Always want to hear more. Thanks!!!
Please consider checking out Marcin's latest stuff. Classical Dragon with Marcin and Henson is something to behold.
Thanks Justin, the lemon twigs are one of my favourite bands
Hey, I was there. A very special night.
I love your posts. They are so fun and you are amazing!!!!!
No way, Justin!! LETS GO! So happy to see you connect and interview the Lemon Twigs!! Love Everything Harmony and the new album, A Dream Is All We Know!
Great alnums!
i'm going to their show in montreal
Fucking incredible. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Honestly the best when you can appreciate the art of a band properly
Steve Perry and Bobby Gillespie...
It was Justin that brought The twigs to my attention and got to see them in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago ….
I loved this.
Love the Spinal Tap interview set-up at the beginning 😁
Great interview! Loved every minute. 🔥
Review the peacemaker intro please please please
6:34 - can someone FINALLY show them Jellyfish. I expect them to get inspired by it and release a record similar to "Spilt Milk"!!!! xD
Fantastic interview - musicians talking music to musicians is sooo great to watch. So glad you mentioned Jellyfish too (so much commonality), though it seemed like they weren’t that aware of them - which I find hard to believe!!
Me too. At first I thought that maybe he didn't like them but I think you're right that he didn't seem to know them. Odd indeed.
569,000🎉🎉🎉
Going to see them next week in Montreal!!! So excited
Tour together
So excited for Montreal!!!!
This is what we want
i ADORE THE LEMON TWIGS
Legendary collab!!!
❤I love them❤
Legends unite!
The brothers seemed really confused when Justin asked them if they like Jellyfish. Is it possible the Lemon Twigs are not familiar with Jellyfish?? Or... dislike Jellyfish??
I’ve seen them react to the question in a previous interview and they are familiar but don’t seem to be avid fans. There’s a few bands like Queen where you’d think they’d be taking influences but Brian doesn’t like them.
