- 25 years ago Coventry City were riding high at Highfield Road, easily beating the other 'City' in Sky Blue. Gerry Francis was the ageing Captain, while Gary Gillespie and Mark Hateley were to both go onto greater things. With Ray Ranson, the current Coventry Chairman playing for the losing side.

That was a horrible strip Coventry had back then. Mark Hateley was a real centre-forward.
Cov were wearing their TV kit as in those days you weren't allowed to wear sponsored kit. If you look carefully at the start while they are showing the Coventry line-up you can see in the background that the players are wearing the 'Talbot Motors' kit. It was just a bloody big T on the front of their shirts.
Still, that's better than York City's 'Y' fronts (ha ha!)
Before the money...
Man City had a decent history before the money just look them up.Also hold the highest attendance in English football (Wembley not included).
And wheres Hugh Johns ?
Where are the fans ?
Cant beat the old football, real players, no superstars or molly coddle treatment all playing equally on heavy pitches
Was this before mark went to ac milan?
It was. Hateley moved from Coventry to Portsmouth then to Milan for £1 million
Yes it was.
Mark Hateley went to AC Milan for the start of the season 1984 - 85 season, having previously played for Portsmouth
Then we sold the team.
Man City slump towards relegation were already starting in this game made worse by the resignation of john bond after the FA Cup defeat to Brighton.
the positive side is MC giving the first black goalie Alex Williams the chance to play in the first team.
Dropped down the league eventually and most of those players left at the end of the season under freedom of contracts.
jesus, was this before yellow cards were invented...?
