If you're less than 250lbs and just cruise around then all you have to do is occasionally tighten your king pen nut and ride a cheap shop deck Most people i see that are new have there trucks way to loose and the bushings dont work properly. The board flops to each side, instead of curving nicely. You can do that as long as you dont exceed 25mph. Higher than that, youre going to get speed wobbles and whipeout I mainly skate flat, technical so i need my trucks to be tight and consistent. I skate thunder lights with bones hard bushings(used like the instructions say) and everyone i have shown that actually skates has copied me, due to how nice it feels. Hybrid wheels suck, i bought into the hype(several times lol) and now im back to normal wheels for only $20 instead of $40-50 hybrid wheels. The problem i find with hybrid wheels are they're somewhat unpredictable. Some times they slide like hard wheels should and sometimes they grip like soft wheels. I feel like you have to pick one or the other(some really slick skateparks might justify hybrid wheel). My penny cruiser is big wheels and soft while my trick deck is 101 hardness 53 size wheel My favorite thing with hybrid wheels is bombing this hill by my house with a wicked curve at the bottom. The hybrid wheels keeps you awake since you dont know how they're going to react until youre doing it. Its inconsistent lol If you tear up shoes alot, i strongly recommend shoes with suade toe caps. They usually dont look the best, but they last alot longer. I use to go through a pair of shoes in like 3 weeks(my toes get exposed and start to bleed from flicking and the soles get holes in them) and now due to shoes like the lakai cambridge i can go months with the same pair of shoes. For broke people like me, its nice. They also have no break in period and arent stiff like nike dunks are. Sorry for dragging on! I love the Bones Hardcore Hard bushings in my Venture trucks. Actually I tried some mini logo trucks recently and had to put 2 bones bottom bushings in each truck to get the feel I wanted. The kingpin nut was tough to get on but I got it. As far as Bearings goes, the ones I noticed the best difference with is the Bones super swiss 6 ball.
A little appendix to the Board Madness thread... I'm 5'11", I like 14.25 WB, I like ACE trucks. I have AF1 77s (9.5") with 51mm Snots on a Heroin Dressen Egg, Classic 55's (9") with 54mm V6 X97s on a Stingee Thingee, AF1 60s (8.75") with 52mm Snot Wideboys on a Madness 9" non-symmetrical egg. Despite the range of truck widths the riding surface is about 8.75" on all of them (bigger trucks/smaller wheels). I also saw "Daddy" Ben DeGros on the Nine Club so I get the ACE shortening wheelbase thing, but I was surprised by the fact that I'm riding about the same width with these different combos. Shit's crazy, but they all feel right.
Idk that I’d say I have board madness, just a gear hoarding issue 😭 I don’t really change parts around once I get a board set up. Mini logo bushings are legit, orange(94a) and red(100a). The reds are too hard with both top and bottom in, so I got the red top bushings and either black or orange Indy bushings on bottom. Black Indy bushings got chewed up by the top washer, so I filed/sanded the edge of the washer before I changed them. But mini logos are a standard shape and good quality, none of the goofy plastic washer business like the bones ones
