Rock mode didn't do anything different, you hit it with more momentum, go back go slow like all the other modes and the result would be the same, no actual low range torque multiplication = stalled out
Thank you! Finally a renegade video that explains the options. Post more. Go nuts. We are watching. I have a 2015 trailhawk. I haven’t gone off-road at all though since I bought it in 2015. It’s been a daily driver. It’s my first Jeep and off roader vehicle and I never was sure how all that nonsense worked. Why did I buy a trailhawk? I figured why not. Live in south Texas and never know i might need the capability. And trail-hawks look better. I was actually contemplating getting the new wrangler but my little Jeep is staying. Your video was very informative. Thanks for showing how it does in each mode. So I take it low mode must be used when going up a hill? When you select rock sand etc we put it the Jeep in neutral right? Or do we hold the brake and select? See I’m clueless lol. Thanks.
If you haven't already, please subscribe to help me create more videos. "4 low" on a renegade is actually 1st gear. Trailhawks usually start from 2nd. You can go into manual mode and select 1st if you just quickly need more crawling power. Otherwise, come to a stop, shift to N or P ans select 4 Low. It will now not shift out of 1st until you hit the button again. Hitting the 4 low button will also make the throttle much different compared to simply selecting 1st.
Terrain modes you can select while on the move! They will also automatically turn on 4 lock as well. Only rock mode requires a full stop and shift into neutral first. Rock mode only works in 4 Low, the others work with or without 4 low.
Thanks a lot for the video it's very helpful, quick question do you know where is the location of the AWD sensor? Please help me All wheel drive Sensor location feel Renegade 2015
Do you have or are you going to get the Mopar Rock Rails? Seems like unlike most of the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk drivers I see, you actually take yours off road, and you could really benefit from having those Rock Rails.

The 2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk SUV has a recurring power seat problem that prevents the use of the 8-way and lumbar functions. The problem causes the driver seat to freeze and lock into a position on the seat floor tracks. This could create a serious problem in the event of an emergency. The dealer service department is clueless on fixing the problem.
Yes they are. I'm currently on 225 Yokohama Geolandar A/T, there is an ever so slight rub in turns. I think I should've gotten something more aggressive for looks but they work well.
I've had the water pump replaced because the pully was making a squeak. If you don't need the small size of a Renegade or a modern infotainment system I'm sure the hemi grand Cherokee would be great.
Hey Trail Rated, I’m looking to buy a Trailhawk but one road I like to drive has a legal requirement to have 4 low gearing.. I know that “4 low” has a 20:1 crawl ratio, but I’m a bit curious about the actual function.. what speed can you go in 4low? 5mph? 10mph?
Why does the road require 4 low? Have you had to actually use 4 low on that? To put in perspective, a 4 high on other vehicles is around 17-18:1 and 4 low doubles that so 34-36:1. So Renegades "4 low", which is more like a granny gear is lower geared than 4 high but not by much. You can go I think 20mph in the Trailhawk's first gear, you have to manual shift it to be in 1st, it usually starts in 2nd.
TRAIL RATED , the state requires 4 low because it’s a 25% grade for part of the way, the elevation changes 1600’ in less than 1 mile, I have never tried it in high range because I believe without the added engine breaking the decent may not go so well. On the accent in 4 low I can use 2nd gear. This is with a old mission frontier that has issues, so it’s hard for me to really know how much torque is actually required to climb. I realize that the Trailhawk won’t have the I can creep thru anything and the breaks can’t even stop me torque that a truck will have in low, but is it noticeably lower than a typical high range?
@@jwhipple2000 I would say it is noticeably lower than other 4 high cars. I don't think the Trailhawk would have issues on a 25% grade. They do have engine braking to help going down but it's still a little 4 cylinder.
Ive seen the non trail hawk models crawl up steeper and more complex stuff than that. Rock mode really doesn’t do much more than mud. You are correct about 4low tho. Its not really “4low” its just 1st gear and is a gimmick.
Yeah this hill is great for articulation testing, wasn't really for incline. Got friends with open diff no computer 4x4s that can't go up it. The trailhawk first gear sets it apart from the competition but we all know it could use a real multiplier not just a lower gear.
Agreed but i will say that when you drive normally on the streets it never goes into first. Its always starts in second and will only downshift to 2nd at a red light. To put it in first you have to flip it to manual mode or "4 Low"
Rock mode does one other thing very important. It changes the suspension for increased wheel travel. Been wheeling in my 2015 renegade trailhawk for 3 yrs now and haven't gotten stuck on the trail yet. Love my renegade!
negative rock mode doesn't change ANYTHING related to the suspension. Explain to me how it changes the travel of the suspension when there is zero electronics hooks up to the suspension to change travel
I have the 2017 trailhawk she goes everywhere a wrangler will go. Tires made a HUGH difference looks like your running stock tires which are sadly horrible for off-roading. Give K02’s a try and redo this and see the difference ;)
At 1:03 I would have slapped this person in a bro way if I was around. It's a nice Jeep and you make it look bad. You don't have real lockers for the low range and speed kinda crawling your attempting. It's apparent they have no clue how to drive off road unless it's easy mode. You gotta turn the wheels to get traction at times plain and simple don't repeat what's not working either unless your crazy. On top of it all they don't have enough momentum or speed for that size tire considering no real lockers.
There away you want to see the 4x4 tested? Let me know and I can try it out!
Was traction control on? Unless you turn it off manually it only turns off when you put it in 4 low rock mode
Rock mode didn't do anything different, you hit it with more momentum, go back go slow like all the other modes and the result would be the same, no actual low range torque multiplication = stalled out
The Renegade is a great little Jeep!

Dear colleague,
What is the tire size you are using on Renegade?
Do you have or are you going to get the Mopar Rock Rails? Seems like unlike most of the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk drivers I see, you actually take yours off road, and you could really benefit from having those Rock Rails.
I was not aware that they made rock rails for it.

I would say sand and manually shift it to first gear.
