    Lewis Hamilton's talent is so evident in these videos. I remember thinking this the first time I watched him drive a formula 1 car and again now. He maximizes everything (like at Indianapolis, nearly scraping the wall), albeit a tad recklessly (tbf he was only a rookie) and his aggressive driving was such a pleasure to watch.

    If you look at Alonso before this car, his driving style was so different. The McLaren Mercedes is so much more pointy than the Mild Seven Renault's that he was used to driving, where he would just throw the car into the corner and it would somehow stay planted. I guess McLaren had built cars that were optimised for Raikkonen, so they just carried that on since I imagine they wouldn't have had enough data to build a car for Alonso's driving style without it being the prequel to the SF1000. Fortunately, Alonso quickly adapted, but unfortunately, Hamilton also turned out to be pretty handy with the driving style and their squabbles cost them the title.
    When he moved to the new ING Renault, Alonso returned to his old style but in a much less pronounced way, I imagine because with the driving aids ban it would have just upset the car too much and caused it to either spin or understeer into walls. Then in 2009, with the massive reduction in aero, we say his style switch to a much less aggressive form, still preferring understeer but far more neutral.
    As for Hamilton, he sort of shifted styles from race to race during his tenure at McLaren Mercedes, but when he joined the Brawn/Wolff Mercedes team, he developed a single arc steering style, where he would keep the steering wheel still =through the whole corner and use the pedals to dictate the line.

      McLaren's lightning fast front end is courtesy of Raikkonen working his ass off since joining in 2002 to make the fastest and most responsive steering rack maybe an F1 car ever had. If you watch Kimi's onboards from a year ago, you will see that 2007 onboards from Hamilton and Alonso looked like GP2 footage full of mistakes and lost lap time. And all of this, with the ultra bad 2007 Bridgestone control tyres, understeering all over the place. If they had the Michelins they wouldn't even come out of the pitlane without spinning around (sic).
      And it's not a driver's style thing. Raikkonen is the ultimate fastest capable driver maybe in F1 history, because he uses the front end to slide all 4 tyres all the time, bar not losing any time due to corrections. Thus he always had the maximum amount of slip physically possible.
      And that is the paradox. Although he was the most extreme oversteer dependent driver ever in F1, his ability to always keep the rear of the car dancing around, but never over the limit, means he always used all 4 tyres equally.

      @@SpFres1Raikkonen would’ve won the title before the last race in 2007 if he’d chosen to stay at McLaren, and he also would’ve won 2008 comfortably as well. Shame he left just when McLaren got their reliability resolved.

    • @SpFres1
      @SpFres1 Месяц назад +2

      @@McLMP4-22 Completely agree. This was the domino effect created after 5 years of team failures to build a reliable and competitive machinery, plus avoiding numerous silly strategy mistakes, as in Melbourne 2003. Had McLaren provided him with a better 2003 package (as a whole, reliability, speed and better team operational proceedures), he would have won the title, and obviously 2005. He wouldn't even think of leaving McLaren in 06, a season which was doomed from the bad V8 Mercedes HPP provided the team, plus the draggy MP4-21. Kimi should (and would) be a 4 time McLaren world champion with nearly 40 victories before the end of 2010, no doubt about that.
