- Here are the Foos on a short-lived talk show that aired here in the states in the mid-to-late 1990's. (Won't say which one so that I don't have to take it down later.)
Check out Pat's hair - a little different look there.
When i was 12 I thought Everlong wasn't humanly possible to play on drums.
I'm 30 and I still believe that.
Billy Thatcher Check out Stephen Morris from New Order - they call him the human drum machine.
Billy Thatcher I've played it a few times for a cover and your forearms with burn like crazy. it's a challenge definitely.
Im thirteen and JFC it wears out my left arm soooo bad
Dude, that drummer gets me so fkn hyped up.
I love how Taylor is hitting the drums like they owe him money or kicked his dog or said something about his mother... What a complete and total badass. RIP
Pat Smear is not only a guitarist but also an amazing singer. Awesome backing vocals!
Check out the "live and loud" by Nirvana. You can see the full thing on RUclips. Pat does amazing backing vocals on Heart Shaped Box and Pennyroyal Tea.
First time ever that I see Pat on vocals. The Foos rule!!!
and he fucking rocks
He released two (insane) solo albums too!
Check out the "live and loud" by Nirvana. You can see the full thing on RUclips. Pat does amazing backing vocals on Heart Shaped Box and Pennyroyal Tea.
God bless that crowd, probably completely oblivious they were in the presence of such greatness!
They knew....
You're kidding, right? Everyone knew Dave and Pat from Nirvana
@@potato22258Pat was in the Germs, too. A great punk band.
Love it. So raw. They have no idea how big this song will become at this point and how far the foos will go
I love Pat Smear. Such a great performer.
I bought the "The color and the shape" when I was 14. This year I finally could see them live in Argentina. It's my favorite band, definitely. :-)
Best live TV version of Everlong ever! ... I taped this on VHS the night it aired and watched the shit out of it.
TheGreat Gambino Saaaaaame
Rest In Peace Taylor!!! The music the fans and the band will miss you forever
god damn 1997 seems like a totally different world now...
With Dave's hair like this and no beard, he looks like a high school kid! I like it. :D
My kids turned me onto Foo Fighters. ❤️🤟
Wow, killer bassline in the chorus in this version.
It’s been a few days and we’re all still recovering. RIP Taylor ❤
Oh 1997 you were so good to me. My freshman year at college and I saw these guys play Nov 3rd 1997 at the Salem Armory. Taylor and Dave played a 10 minute drum battle. 'Talk Show' opened and the drummer (of STP) tried to get my girlfriend to go back stage with him. Nice try! Great memories of a great time to be 18.
Loves me some RUclips commentary! Well done trolls!
"the drummer (of STP)" ?
Punk rock quality.
2:58 Pat is the one who reignites everlong, thank you Pat!
This song actually gives me shivers...
Most authentic #Everlong song ever.
SO YOUNG!
There's something different about today's Foo Fighters. There's just something better about their earlier performances.
I think you can say that about most bands :/ a lot of the time as bands get older they, obviously, lose their more youthful energy. It's sad, because the Foo Fighters are so kickass. I've heard they're amazing live still, and I'm going to see them in August, so I guess we'll see.
True. When Taylor Hawkings joned and Pat Smear was still in the band(also, short time with Franz Stahl), they were amazingly Powerful and tight. I think they're still a good band today, but it becomes all much more "settled" by the years of course; thats a normal thing with bands. People get older, fatter etc. They're this big arena-rockband but a good one.FF are still around without being or sounding completely dull yet (!)and aged better than many bands after such long time.
DreamfactoryZero I guess it's the fact they're not getting sick of playing the same god damn song every performance (God damn is an exaggeration, i fucking love everlong) ALso, maybe a bit of nostalgia?
DreamfactoryZero In some ways, they were working harder to really nail the performances back then. Nowadays they expect the admiration so they dont try quite as hard I think.
DreamfactoryZero I agree, it seems no one points that out. They're drumming is different in live version now, but it's hard to define what else is
Man, Pat Smear sure brought the coolness factor to the band back then.
big time
Plus points:
- Mesa dual rec AND Peavey 6505 heads!
- Pat sing's backup vocals on chorus like intended!
- Ned Flanders on Bass!
- Dave doesn't 'Hetfield' after each line he sings!
- The 90's people without smartphones!
CONS;
- song stops at break.
bad ass drums
agree! best live version of this song Ive ever heard or seen. theyre still playing like a real band :)
This song just gets better with age. I love the acoustic version but sometimes you just need to ROCK...
dave looked so and sounded so uncertain in this recording. he's come so far since this and since nirvana. hes amazing :)
Pat looks like Mario Lopez here
The vibe of this video is so exquisite
Yes. Pat was hired as a second guitarist for the In Utero tour and also played on the MTV Unplugged special.
Damn Pat Smear is such a bad ass!!! Must be the best You Tube video of Everlong performed live that I have seen.
that song's been written when i was born it's my favourite song
This was one of their best for this song
Pat looks a bit like AC Slater from Saved By The Bell in this vid haha
Love this ending
"Jello, I've waited here for you." ROFL
the sound has matured so much :O
awesome song, dave is so cute at the end trying to get on camera
Jello, I've waited here for you. My all time favorite rock band right here ppls.
This is what I love...Pat Smear is so incredible.
Back then it was so unusual to see Dave with short hair and guitar instead of long hair and drums!
good thing pat is back with the foos!
this is golden
Why the fuck does Pat not do backing vox anymore?!?
I know right?
Jimi Jones stop being a douchebag in every comment lol
Jimi Jones its ok cause i actually laughed at what you said about the name lol
what is "Pat"?
Jimi Jones that's funny as f**k mate thank you
@dubbly1 It rounded out the sound and took pressure off of Kurt to play "perfectly". He said it was hard to concentrate on playing and singling and engaging with the audience all at once, so he got Pat to take the pressure off. I can't remember which interview clip, but he did say that's why in an interview someplace on youtube. They had a second guitarist while touring for Bleach in 1989 too (Jason Everman). I think it was always Kurt's intention to have 2 guitars.
Still the best live performance of Everlong to date.
Great performance. Great backup vocals from pat.
+noeltheshemale Agreed, though I do find Chris' backup works better for this song, so I can understand why Pat doesn't do much singing any more.
+Pabler Arav This is Foo fighters without chris shiflett 2 decades ago.
João Francisco Chanoca Yes, I know. I was saying that for live performances, Chris has established himself as a better backup singer. During the studio version Dave does his own harmonies. When they played live in the 90's, they worked with what they had and had Pat sing backup, and he did a pretty good job. I was just commenting on how Pat doesn't sing anymore, because Chris is better at it.
Yeah but Taylor is better at it than Chris that's why he almost stopped doing backup voice, he does that rarely now
João Francisco Chanoca Fair enough, but it's difficult to sing while playing drums, I speak from experience. Even bass and singing is easier. Evidently Taylor has it figured out, but frankly this has gotten a bit out of hand. I really just meant that Pat isn't terrible, but that it's understandable why he doesn't sing anymore. There's always an interesting story when a musician sings then eventually stops.
xD 0:50
Motorhead Gomez Germs, nigga. He don't give a fuck.
Dat face
Motorhead Gomez haha Taylor always does that
I love Pat's guitar!
I think Dave Grohl could have played this better than Luke Skywalker did here.
+Ash Scott And that giant Tyrion Lannister on the drums..... SMH
BenAesthetic
But you gotta admit that the Karate Kid does okay on the other guitar
hey flea also did a good job here :)
He probably got nervous when he realised it was a young Mace Windu introducing them
pat - best dance move of all the guitarists that ever lived!!!
Come down and waste away with me ❤️
Really cool to see Dave a Grohl playing at such a young age. Not that he probably cared but little did he know at this point that he would become friends with Paul McCartney and one of the highest paid and biggest rock stars of all time.
Kedar Gurjar He had already been in nirvana. He was a big rock star.
J-Lo I've waited here for you
que joven pat
Awesome upload.
Best live version ever without that whisper part.
Pat's back vocals sounds exactly like the original but he didn't record his back vocals in the recording.
pat smear always looks like he is coked up !!
and loving it
mehhh! i was born this year! this is one of my favorite songs by them!
Long live Wayans dynasty. You're the best!!!
fml i was 3. i didn't even know they were already rocking in 97
Lol, I laughed when the host said 'COLOUR and the shape'.
The BEST version of this SONG! Foo Fighters = the best!!!
I was born this year:) Im a young diehard fan
Yes. They had their whole extended lineup at Wembley.
I hope that after 15 years he know the album is actually called THE Colour and THE Shape.
I wish taylor still played ocdp. I like gretsch but I love the way ocdp drums sound like.
Taylor's dancing at the end FTW! :D
That snare tho
Hes such a badass...
shit. this is the best version ive ever heard of this song. dave grohls voice has either gone to shit, or he just doesnt give a fuck anymore.
just because you think that this is the best version of "everlong" doesnt mean that Grohl is not brilliant anymore..
then what are you doing watching a foo fighters video? you see, this is stuff i don't get. when people click on videos to bash the band. i mean, why don't you watch videos that you're interested in instead of watching videos that you know you won't like? (i'm honestly intrigued, please answer)
Pat is awesome 03:06
Pat Smear was a member of Nirvana... official or not...
Nirvana was at their LIVE best with PS in the band.
woowoo1967 no, 90-91 was their best live era. they had way more energy and passion. 93-94 they were going through the motions
oh my god... best ending ever !!! of a song !!!
I love the beat
yo no pude creerlo cuando los vi, fue el primer recital que vi en mi vida, que mal que cuando empezaron yo apenas nacia :\
I have to laugh as I watched Nate. His moves and style are the EXACT same now as they were in '97.
Taylor Hawkins on the drum...just stupid good.
Viva Foo Fighters.
love them.
god the 90s were awesome
Same here!
It's Keenan Ivory Wayans - the guy who created In Living Color, the sketch comedy show that Jim Carrey used to be on. He had a short lived talk show in the late 90's.
Una topadora
i love when they were 4 pieces and had pat as their guitarist
David Eric Grohl

yesss
Jello..ive waited here for yooooooooouuuuuuuuu!
I think he did background guitar
Pat's their "official touring guitarist"
but ONLY touring, so most likely yes, I think he was @ Wembley
Jello, I’ve waited here for you
that shit eating grin on pats face while he wails on the guitar... never seen anything quite like it
He even sang backing vocals in Nirvana.
Pat Smear looks like AC Salter's cooler older brother.
He looks more like Diego maradona
PINCHE BANDA ENCABRONADA!!!...>:D asi miiil!!!...:'').... cómo me hubiera gustado ser de los 80´s...:DDD
Amazing DRUMS
That's half what makes me come back!!
I remember this I was in Middle school 12 years old and I wanted to find out who were the Foo Fighters after listening everlong song on the radio
Luv Pat Smear style
