After sending shockwaves across contemporary culture and setting a new standard for provocative, socially-conscious horror films with his directorial debut, Get Out, Academy Award®-winning visionary Jordan Peele returns with another original nightmare that he has written, directed and produced. Set in present day along the iconic Northern California coastline, Us, from Monkeypaw Productions, stars Oscar® winner Lupita Nyong’o as Adelaide Wilson, a woman returning to her beachside childhood home with her husband, Gabe (Black Panther’s Winston Duke), and their two children (Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex) for an idyllic summer getaway.
Haunted by an unexplainable and unresolved trauma from her past and compounded by a string of eerie coincidences, Adelaide feels her paranoia elevate to high-alert as she grows increasingly certain that something bad is going to befall her family. After spending a tense beach day with their friends, the Tylers (Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Cali Sheldon, Noelle Sheldon), Adelaide and her family return to their vacation home. When darkness falls, the Wilsons discover the silhouette of four figures holding hands as they stand in the driveway. Us pits an endearing American family against a terrifying and uncanny opponent: doppelgängers of themselves. Writer and director Peele produces for his Monkeypaw Productions alongside Sean McKittrick, Jason Blum, and Monkeypaw’s Ian Cooper. Us will be released by Universal Pictures this March, 2019.
Directed By Jordan Peele
Produced By Jason Blum, Sean McKittrick, Jordan Peele, Ian Cooper
Executive Produced By Daniel Lupi, Bea Sequeira

What did YOU think about the ending to Us? ✂✂✂
*NEW Us & Get Out Universe Theory video just uploaded!* ► ruclips.net/video/so0hekaX8EQ/видео.html
Well i saw it and inwas so scared from it
Maximus CHANNEL hope that means you enjoyed it!
I'm a Canadian so maybe some of the American political metaphors were lost on me, but I felt like the ending meant she was a Republican all along.. you know, with the whole red versus blue thing.
I guessed the twist from the moment it happened lol in the opening scene and it was backed up by the mother saying she doesn’t speak and she’s not my girl etc - so when it was revealed I was yeh wasn’t that obvious
Superb film tho
Fire. It was straight fire.
Both Red and Adelaide's behavior is a clue to the fact that Lupita Nyong'o is a damn good actress.
Anthony Villanueva honestly. i’ve never been so impressed by an actor/actress’s performance. lupita did THAT.
BEST COMMENT LOL
It was two different actresses
@@susieballard4957 No, it wasn't. Lupita Nyong'o played both roles, Red and Adelaide.
Anthony Villanueva yesss👏🏾
Also at the beginning when Adelaide meets her friend on the beach her friend tells her that she had a cosmetic surgery. Later when you see her friend's doppelgänger you can see that she has scars all over her face. So when the real friend had a surgergy the doppelgänger got cut in the face. Maybe thats why she cuts herself when she looks into the mirror because she things that is the only way to become more "beautiful".
That's so good!!
Wow!
I noticed her husband's clone also had scars on his face. Did they both get work done?
BeautifulbyDesign he wears glasses so maybe
Holy shit
No she cuts her self because she is comparing her self to Adelaide much like the friend on the beach she’s obsessed with Adelaide’s beauty
Josh’s wife’s doppelgänger was crying at first to the sight of Josh’s doppelgänger dying but then laughs. The real wife earlier said she thought about killing him at times.
Kush Shah oh wow
Kush Shah I caught that one instantly. Glad to know that was actually something 😂
0_0
Daaaaamn.
O_O
She sure did. Great point!
I thought of this too but when josh's wife said it i thought it was a joke
Adelaide gets so bloody by the end of the movie her white shirt slowly reveals her true self ... a red one
@Nicolas Tyler Doyle Dang, that’s deep
Nicolas Tyler Doyle That’s exactly what I thought while watching. Good catch to you too.
Nicolas Tyler Doyle I noticed that too
I quite liked that theory! WOW! Now THAT is going to have me thinking! Thank you...🤯👍
TRUE!!!
When she was snapping off beat in the car I knew something was wrong... The clones have no soul.
THE PAPERBOYZ 😂😂
Yep. That's why she wasn't the better dancer of the two either at the end
Thought I was the only one that noticed that shit 😂😂😂
The tethered are as human as their counterparts
@@zavier3644 No they are not! They dont have souls.
I realised the twist when red let herself into the family house, obviously remembered the hidden key from when she was a child.
She uses her parents beach house?
Gabe Merritt Red was the ACTUAL little girl before the switch. So she remembered from 30 years ago where the extra key was always hidden. Otherwise she wouldn’t know about that key.
Good catch!
But I thought the dad opened the door first no?
Did you not pay attention to the film? The clones play out the normal people’s lives in the underground base (they know their memories)
No one seems to mention the parallels between Adelaide's Thriller T-shirt and the twist at the end of the Thriller music video (when MJ looks at the camera revealing he's actually a monster too).
Michael Hess omg yessss
And laughs. 😉
That's right
Lol everybody just thinking too hard
John Africa lol nah that’s the point of this movie.. you have to look and pay attention 👀
They kept doppelgangers in a house of mirrors that says find yourself
someone out there wanted this to happen
Minako Hiashi yea sounds right
yes yes
If they would have kept this story confined to that one town it would have been believable, maybe possible, but this was nationwide so there was more than just that one house of mirrors on the beach. hmm
yea, probably the most obvious hint..
@@jacksonei I don't think you have to take this movie literally, a la "get out". This is so fantastic even for a horror film, and experiment so imposible to realize and impractical, that I guess is only ment to be taken symbolically. So it dosn't matter if the part with the experiment tunnels makes no fucking sense haha
A nice little Easter egg i heard: In Red's original speech to the family she said "I had a little girl, and she was born laughing". "And then I had a little boy, and he was born in fire". I found that strange. And if you notice, the tethered daughter dies laughing in a tree. And the tethered son dies by fire!
Yes!
Exactomundo!!!!!
Yeah but the reason why the boys face was burned was because of all the times Jason tried doing the lighter trick and the clone did the same except he was using matches and unintentionally burned himself
The boy is switched at the beach with the tethered version.
@@WestonEvans how? The film does give us any clues as to this happening. That's a bit of a reach.
Did anyone notice that Adeline (the real adeline) was the only one in the movie that didn’t kill anyone. Murder being a real heartless act, it showed that she had a soul the whole time. Also when the white family net their doppelgängers they were killed immediately where as red sat down like a family, like they had morals and a heart.
Ajamn Johnson right the tethered husband was the only one who instantly wanted to kill !
All the clones wanted to kill immediately but since Red is no clone, she did not...However being the only person aware of the clones uprising, it allowed Adelaide's family to survive and overpower them..Everyone else just succumbed to their clone because they were caught off guard and unable to outrun themselves.
.......that’s why she said “little girl run” the way she did it was a warning at least I think.
uh the ending scene is red and Adeline trying to both kill each other
The aggressive actions by the Real Adelaide was a result of her having gone mental because of her situation (much like the Tethered surrounding her).
As it zones out from the rabbit in the cage, do you all realize that the main rabbit has perfect posture compared to other moving rabbits in the other cages. It not only draws our eyes because of a high contrast but also it symbolizes that real Adelaide is stuck with other tethers underground.
Wine Wyne wow that’s very clever, good catch
Wine Wyne yes and that rabbit had a human eye
Delta SSiPP People keep saying this but uh no... that’s what rabbit eyes look like.
DeathnoteBB no pay closer attention there’s a human eye, and as the camera zooms out, the rabbit scratches and blinks it’s eye, then the eye changes solid black
DeathnoteBB at 9:11 you can see it really good. And it’s 11 cages going across
ThE scene where clone elizabeth moss tries to murder adelaide with a SCISSOR but Jason saves her by hitting the clone with a ROCK on her head is a nod to the inicial scene where that couple was playing Rock-Paper-Scissors and the man won by using ROCK against SCISSOR
Omg 😮
Really??
When i watched it i KNEW the rock paper scissors game in the background would be significant, but i did not catch this!
ooo
wait.. wasnt that Zora?
Lucky the doppelgänger boy didn’t show up then with a flaming paper!
Hope its not a repeat comment BUT when she was going to rescue her son. I was wondering how she knew the way down to the tunnel so well in that mirror fun house.
I was under the assumption she knew something was there ONLY because she had had a traumatic experience there when she was a child BUT I also peeped how Jason had walked in on Addy finishing off one of the twin tethers, whilst practically snarling & growling if you will :P
Because she was born there
@@gobbleswells2883 it was so many turns and wholes in there ..I was like hmmmm she knows the way beyond the mirror. Then when the end was revealed.. it made so much sense
I thought it was cause there was a bunny painted on the bottom of the door/mirror.
Because she was the clone
When they were bragging about having a higher kill count it showed how desensitized to violence they are. They dont see themselves as murderers because they dont see the tethered as human.
The tethered planned the hands across america as a protest of the conditions of how they have lived. The tethered are voiceless representing the underprivileged.
The non tethered couldn't understand their protest (or their plight) as the dad even thought it was some sort of performance art.
At the end the mom told the kid everything would be alright meaning that their protest wouldn't make a difference in the end. Just like the original hands across america didnt really change things.
Also, if you look at the title US the cursive makes it look like there's a C before the Us. Essentially like the clones are saying "See Us". They want to be free and live like everyone else with equal treatment.
Eric Mata Best explanation yet. People seem to have forgotten that part.
@@lisatryme3518 They weren't wrong to become desensitized, to be soft would mean to die. Just because these people could have been normal doesn't mean you should feel bad for defending yourself.
@@gabemerritt3139 I see your point. It wasn't just them killing though. They were bragging about their kills, as if the tethered were bugs that was nothing more than a nuisance.
@@lisatryme3518 It wasn't really, human bodies can survive a surprising amount of trauma, see the twin that fell off the balcony, and the husband that took a poker to the head and kept going. Sure they were becoming evil on some level but that is subjective and most would say they acted appropriately
On the beach when the mom tells the family friend « I’m not very good at talking » because she’s the shadow girl
I peeped that too
Gosh soooo many hidden signs I did not catch at all.
My favorite bit of foreshadowing was toward the beginning when the dad tells the joke:
"Knock knock"
"who's there?"
"You."
"You who?"
"Yoo-hoo, let me in!"
Josh ahh omg there so much symbolism in this movie wow!
Wow. I get it now. I just thought he was corny. But it was all symbolism.
That's deep
I dont get it... pls explain
Pomidor my guess is that it’s because the dad was the one who bust the door down when they first attacked.
When red first was telling the story in the living room. She stated that the prince fell in love with the shadow which was an early indicator that they had switched already
Her voice was scary as f**k when telling that story in the living room lol...
You gotta read between the lines
@@MrPxndor well, your wrong. So it doesn't really matter if you disagree.
@@MrPxndor Bruh what you said literally makes no sense, whoever is above ground is in control, so when red and the mother switched places red became the dominate one since she was the one above ground, but the movie stated that you can replicate a body, but not the soul, the teathered noticed adilad (the real mother) was different because she HAD a soul
Either way she explained that Adelaide was the shadow person and when she got pregnant red did too and her babies were corrupted
The little girl was a good actor. That was scary when she got frightened. (Her name is Madison Curry).
And her creepy facial expression as she was walking forward!
what is her name

I can’t stop thinking about this movie! It was amazingly done. Jordan Peele is a genius! These minor details are sick!
2 things I noticed that you missed.
1. She was telling her son to snap on beat, but SHE was off beat. I told my wife in the theater "that ain't right, a black woman with no rhythm? Nah bruh, we can keep a beat"
2. When she first stood alone in the house in front of Adelaide she stood in front of a picture that had a black woman with shadows of 3 other people in the picture, showing she's the only real person accompanied by her 3 shadowed family.
True!
I caught the second hint, too!
I noticed (especially after her 2nd killing of a tethered clone) that Adelaide’s previously white clothing was becoming increasingly red with blood. At the time I thought it was just showing her transformation into what she feared, but after the ending I realized it was a clue.
I noticed that she wasn't following anyone into the tunnel, and yet somehow knew exactly how to get to the tunnel when anyone else clearly wouldn't have been able to find it if they didn't spend several minutes or hours looking for it, of course that assumes that they even knew it existed... There were things that weren't clicking throughout the entirety of the movie until for the most part you learned as to why that its in the ending.
here’s a cookie. 🍪
If you notice they basically told us that Adelaide was different in the scene when the daughter was saying that she should because she has the best kill count and then the dad said that they all have 1 kill and they were all the same until Adelaide said she actually had 2 kills differing herself from the others
@@kornellbrown3802 At the time i thought that was just the tethering. "They know where we are" so they can somewhat sense each other
Nice one!!! That's a great analysis my friend!
Not sure if someone else has noted this, but there's a couple at Santa Cruz playing rock-papper-scissors, and they keep tying on scissors, which is both a continuation of the twin theme and the use of scissors to untether them....
Dave Young wow even the little things
🤯🤯🤯 woah!!! I wasnt ready for that one.
Also a hint at the number 11
Great catch. I remember that!
Woa
Adelaide's bday is around May 25th, 1986. That means she is a Gemini. Twins
Jennie Kravitz 🔥🔥🔥
Yeah
THAT'S TODAY
Her bday was yesterday
Could also be why she said they were born special . An actual twin .
In the beginning when they show all the caged rabbits , there is 1 black rabbit. Symbolizing that one of the tethered aren't like the rest ..
The moment I heard Adelaide’s mom say that’s not our girl and she won’t talk anymore, I knew they switched. Then I started doubting it because Red didn’t say anything about it and then the reveal was amazing!!!
Right peele made us second guess it. Then scratch the thought and boom they did switch. I'm like this man is so freaking clever.
Why didn't red say anything? Did I miss the explanation?
@@myasswithacherryontop1902 she was saying it but just in a round about way.
myasswithacherryontop the tethered couldn’t possibly understand her bc they couldn’t speak or understand English
@@myasswithacherryontop1902 she did but it took 20 years or so to organize a breakout
One more detail that you missed: Little Adelaide knows how to whistle, and when "Adelaide" kills "Red", you can see "Red" whistling just before her death. "Red" is also heard whistling when she breaks into the house for the very first time. This is clear indication of the swap, which is revealed in the end.
Syed Mazhar Hasan it’s not a clear indication. In the fun house they were both whistling.
@@Cowboyz214May be I am wrong.
Actually I brought this point up on another post and I agree with it. The fake Adelaide never had that whistling down the way the original did. The tone was different and everything and that was a clear indication of who was who also. I noticed it when they were in the fun house originally. The fakes whistle was much more of somewhat a darker kinda tone.
That part was so sad to me. The real person was defeated, her last whistle was one of finally giving up
@@syedmazharhasan6803 No you are right, they were not both whistling, it was a clue of the swap
Notice when they first get to the house and are eating lunch, everyone is eating fast food wrapped in blue packaging... Except Adelaide, who is eating RED strawberries
Shit i thought she was eating YELLOW strawberries...
Nice catch...
Dule ha.....ha no
Does that have anything to do with the shadow and rabbits.
Eating raw rabbits for 6-8 years would kinda make you a vegan, right? I did not find her eating strawberries strange.
Even though the original Adelaide turned out to be evil. I felt sorry for her, she lost the majority of her life living underground with the tethered as a result of her clone who sought to live above ground and wanted revenge for what she did to her.
The original Adelaide is not necessarily evil, more like she became the antagonist as the movie progressed. And the fake adelaide which the one supposed to be the evil one became the protagonist as the movie progressed. At least towards the audience.
I would've tried to come back up if someone had dragged me underground.
@@aaliyahrivers2209 She can't! She's Once the tether goes to the surface, she is the dominant one and the original one is bound to her.
She's not evil.
I felt sorry for both of them. The original Red didn't want that life anymore & the original Adelaide was robbed of her life.
The twist ending in this movie is similar to that of Michael Jackson’s thriller video. Lots of thriller references here
Yup in that the boyfriend telling the story of a Ware-wolf boyfriend that is ACTUALLY the freakin' monster himself!!! Brilliant!!
Ironically, Jason wore a werewolf mask, lol. I stand corrected (@JenniferConterras says it's a Chewbacca mask!)
What I didn't immediately pick up on was the red jumpsuit and ONE glove. Genius. All these references from a little girl's last days above ground. I wonder if she was wearing those odd sandals they all wore when she was kidnapped.
I think music plays a large role in the film. The original (red) loves Michael Jackson and also loves to dance, she has “soul”. This and the movies plot are represented in the song Thriller...” Darkness falls across the land(red being forced underground)
The midnight hour (11:11) is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y'all's neighborhood(the other clones reeking havoc)
And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down(LOOK LOOK!)
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell...”(bruh I know y’all seein the symbolism!)
I would have rather watched Thriller for two hours--this movie is garbage
I keep watching these videos and no one mentions how there's only one black rabbit in both the opening scene (when caged) and the scene before Adelaide confronts Red, where the black rabbit (now free) runs into the room where the confrontation takes place. I took this as symbolizing Red's existence as the anomaly or "black sheep" in the underground society, as she did not originate there and breaks conformity in order to lead a revolution that changes the world for herself and her people.
And when the Tethered Adelaide was explaining the story to her husband and how she felt like the real Adelaide was getting close like she had a "black cloud" over her head
@@breeb1766 Peele said this movie wasn't about race, so I took the black rabbit to symbolize pretty much what other commenters in this thread have stated, but I can see how your theory could work.
Oooohhhh that's good.
Michael Hess I SAID THAT THEN THE PERSON I WENT WITH WAS LIKE “NO SOME OF THEM ARE BLACK AND WHITE”.
There is more then one black rabbit in the beginning you just have to look
When Zora's clone was hanging in the tree, Adelaide was about to hit her with a finishing blow but couldn't. She couldn't bring herself to kill the daughter that was actually supposed to be hers.
As well as the son when she deadass saw him with the match and the gasoline trail and stood there. She also had the chance to kill him but didnt
It wasnt her daughter. Unless she popped back down to have sex and give birth to a tethered.
Yup
Legend says it that the police are atill on their way
Fuck the police
it was symbolic seeing the dopplegangers going for the throat (as was especially evident in the tylers' murder scene). they have had no voice for all this time and they are taking the "voice" away from the upside people
Wow yes indeed and nice spot! 😀👍
Jordan Peele said every detail in the movie means something. I have pages more of details I noticed but this video could have been an hour long!
Flicks And The City would definitely watch an hr long video about US, Jan!
Also this jus came to mind......Pluto doesn’t walk he runs like a dog........what do dogs go for when they attack ??
@@FlicksAndTheCity MAKE A LONG VERSION OF THE SAME THING. That way, they have a choice. More ytubers should do this, really. But your review is the best I've watched, hands down.

marie watson Thanks marie! I'd love to, but at the moment that kind of video would just take too long. I'm thinking about ways to do something like that in the future. In the meantime I will have a nice new Us video coming tomorrow, so look out for that! 😀
If I were Red, I would be pissed too! She got taken away from her life on her freaking birthday! #justiceforthtethered
The real villain is of course is the U.S. Government that orcustrated this whole cloning process.
right!@@iamtaylorgolden
Domino Durham i said that yesterday 😂😂
Do you realize the error in your statement?
“Red”, being the True Adelaide, is the original human. Your hashtag is problematic, because justice for tethered would not equal justice for her.
YET, they are ALL human, and all somewhat capable, and obviously potentially interchangeable. So they (meaning we) are all connected, meaning justice for ALL. For it’s not the original humans who should be faulted here, except those who were in any way involved in the cloning, as well as the neglect and abandonment of the cloned humans.
Peele did this all purposely. Dig deeper, Bro❣️
No. The real Adelaide became a tethered "Red"...my hashtag is really meant for her and her story. She was a real little girl that got taken away from her family on her birthday and left to live with degenerates for decades and then ended being killed by the switcher. I understand that it's not the original humans that should be faulted here. There are two villains in this movie and they are the government and Adelaide. Thanks for you comment. @@BLESSFUL-Bliss
It took me a minute to realize why they killed with scissors.
Then I looked at the scissors in the poster.
Two heads stuck together.
Mr. Tattoo ASMR OH SHIT
And to cut ties/tethers. Peele is all about duality/multiplicity. Also, as mentioned, to pay homage to Freddy’s fingers. I believe the fact they are shiny (light, reflection) factors in. There’s more.
Tethered in the middle too.
Two blades stuck together with one screw.
@@typicallyalex They were Two bodies but shared One soul.
In hindsight, I found that Red explaining about the warm, delicious meals Adelaide was served and the soft, fun toys she received while they had to eat raw, bloody rabbit meat and play with sharp, cutting toys was revealing. How would Red, a tethered person, know those experiences first hand? Especially the way she described them --she had actual memories of those things.
The. Red frisbee Covers the blue dot perfectly but underneath is still the blue dot
Milky Eggs underrated comment
unrhu Ol Stars and Stripes
The unheard hidden under a mask.
Land of the *FREE*...
YES!! First time seeing someone reference this! I also took it as, if you look at the logo for the Hands Across America, the color red is beneath(tethered in the underground tunnels) the color blue. Then of course the red frisbee landed right on top of the blue dot. Meaning, the "red" will now be on top. That's so mind blowing to me

Jordan peele is a damn genius.
I wasn’t a fan of all the humor after a traumatic experience. Too much of that imo
DestroyerMVP dude right.. then they were arguing over their “kill count” like it just makes me not take it as serious. Just little jokes after every situation took me out of it, like you said.
I’m just curious... Where did they get the jumpsuits, gloves and scissors? I know they ain’t got Amazon Prime. 🤣
Lmaoooooo. Too cute. I had the same question.
Remember that humans built that place, and that everyone Below had clothes on mimicking their counterparts Above. There was likely some leftover materials, fabric, and tools from that time. Sadly, when Americans abandon something they start, they leave the mess behind.
Ask a soldier. Or better yet, talk to someone from a war-torn land, or watch a doc/film showing battlegrounds. Truly, it’s fucked up bc that’s how many of the kids in those lands get artillery.
Anyhow, I imagine she made them over time, which is why theirs are ill-fitting (family first), but the neighbors and others aren’t so much.
Lol you know many weapons we just leave behind? It's sad. The leave whole tanks behind
😂😂 you know what?!?! goodnight Ms.Ashley !! 😂😂
I'm weak 😂😂😂😂😂
Peele doesn’t want people to pay attention to little things like that. Have to take some logic out of it and look at the bigger picture
I wondered why Pluto’s face was burned, and then I realized that the sons magic trick involved sparks, and so Pluto was most likely below ground with matches or a similar device, but it actually worked so the flames probably burned Pluto’s face
How’d they get fire 🔥 Below? They had to eat cold, raw rabbit. Surely they’d cook it if they had fire.
Until they snatched Jason. “Pluto” is actually the true Jason. They were swapped the previous year. I believe he had the match with him when he was taken, thus introduced fire. Perhaps that’s even how they really got their strength up to be able to pull this off against highly capable humans Above. Anyhow, “Pluto” was likely burned to keep him from screaming while Below, and telling while Above.
@@BLESSFUL-Bliss so hes just cool with his real family getting murdered? No anyone who thinks Jason was swapped are the part of humanity that likes to grasp at straws.
He was having issues because hes clearly on the spectrum and his grandmother died.
If anything the grandmother dying was Red's signal to move forth as she may not have wanted to kill her real mother as maternal care is a reoccurring theme in this movie.
Like it took the fake Adele YEARS to adapt. He was also ready to burn the entire family alive with a fire trap.
Like the Jason swapped theory should only be had with other people who are special and like to grasp at straws.
"He burned his face from burning his grandmas house down years ago!"
So no one noticed Jason going missing? He just came back mute and started learning fast but the family never mentions it?
"He dont know words yet!"
Hes a child and a smart one. He says anus because he got in trouble for cursing earlier hes obviously a smart ass that's just consistant writing for his smart ass comment about three fingers pointing back.
Pluto was burning his face because he plays with fire like how Jason plays with sparks. If you still feel like you wanna stay remedial think back to the Wife of the other family. She got work done on her face remember? Ever question why the other moms clone cut her face in the mirror or had a scar to begin with? Because the mom gets work done on her face and what they get down below is a fucked up mirror from up top.
Think about it.
"Sometimes I wanna kill my husband."
Her counterpart ends up laughing when she sees her "hubby" dies because these clones dont really love each others spouses because to them they'reliterally being forced unto going with the motions.
Jason was never switched. All arguments for them being switched are extremely weak. Boy is autistic. The snapping scene? Hes weird and tbh I didn't feel like she was off beat but tbh I was too busy enjoying the song myself.
Pluto crawls much how even the real Abele crawled when she was down below.
Jason is the most perspective character.
I honestly believe the control part where he killed his clone was something entirely different.
Since Jason is on the spectrum Pluto his reduced to almost being entirely animalistic. Like simply put hes not very bright on all aspects. So he to me he was continuing the game of Simon says tricking the clone to walk backward into the fire. it wasnt control but him more so using his wit to beat that clone. Also it was a double jesus like sacrifice scene. Pluto literally immolated himself. He was born from fire and died in it
The mother showing care for the dying tethers go back to maternal themes. Even the mother to adele seemed the most broke and upset about switch.
Tbh I doubt Red really cares about her children. She def dont give af about Abe

Ash Settle yea I know that lol I was saying it was a nod to Friday the 13th remember Jason (Friday 13th) witnessed his mother’s death and decided to carry out her work there after. Now in Us the kid name is Jason and he witnessed the same thing and he pulled down his mask. Basically a nod to F 13th
No, the boys have been switched
GUYS I GOT CHILLS WHEN THE YOUNG BOY LOOKED AT HER AT THE END WHEN HE REALIZES HER MOM WAS THE FAKE ONE THE WHOLE TIME. ANYONE ELSE?
I think so too. He knew she was fake one all along.
What about this. When the bit with mask was locked in the closet Red told Adelian "that's yours"
rhoda young yes I caught that too.
i think jason really noticed who ‘adelaide’ really was when he saw her kill the second twin’s counterpart. he heard her growl, and the way she killed the counterpart seemed so natural to her. it scared him because he knew his mother (adelaide) shouldn’t be capable of that, and she wasn’t. adelaide never killed anyone, red/tethered adelaide did.
Jasmyne Moore but his real mother really is the tethered Adelaide. She gave birth to him
There is a theory that the little boy was also replaced by his tether a year prior. They visited Santa Cruz when the grandmother died. Since Red knew English she was able to teach the son and then send him out to replace the boy so that he already knew English; Notice how in the car he said kiss my anus. The family wondered where he got all his new words. The kid had a magic trick he did with matches; But the clone tried to to it above ground and could no longer do it; so as the clone attempted and failed at the lighter trick; The real sons face was getting burned underground. Also when the father asked him to fetch his bat and he didn't remember where it was. Also, at the beach he was making sand tunnels instead of sand castles. Also when Red Captured the boy; and locked him up underground. It was to keep him safe because that was her real son.
Amber Laye Amor, I think you are right! Remember how Adeline tells him ‘they can’t hurt us’, as soon as she kills Red? Why would she say Us, if she was the only clone in the family?
But why were the boys switched??
If red was the real mother and the boy was the clone why did she lock him up and protect him. You just said the "normal" boy above was the clone so it wasn't her real son. I guess I'm wondering why red would protect the clone knowing that they were switched.
@@shamarab4632 Red's real son was above ground. That's why she took him and put him underground. Addy had no idea the normal boy wasnt her son, that's why she still protected him. And I think that's why the cloned normal boy put his mask on at the end when he looked at addy, bc he knew that she didnt know he was the actual clone.
I caught that one too. 😉
Iv been thinking about how on the beach when the frisbee lands on the blue circle perfectly kinda showing the real red was on top the whole time
That's probly why when she gave it back she was just like a statue
I also think the movie tackles themes of people resigning to a life they don’t want by abandoning dreams. The girl was a runner but then wanted to stop. Lupita stopped dancing. In the beginning the father said i could have gone pro but now he drinks heavily. It seems like the people below wanted not only to take their rightful place because conditions were bad but to live the life that where they could fulfill their dreams on their own terms.
Good point!
That's good!
The white lady said she could've been a movie star.
Neeshpeesh123 Great analysis!! I didn’t even think about that
OH SHIT
First time I became suspicious something was wrong with Adelaide was when Jason spots her killing the second twin in their friends house and she starts grunting and has a more primal stance
I knew the moment she saw the back of her clown that she switched. Then I thought it was probably a government experiment 15 min in.
Not the moment prior, when she tries to kill the clone Josh, but can’t?
I like to think that the rabbits were used as symbolism for “Alice in Wonderland” where Alice falls down the rabbit hole. Addeline did just that exactly when she went down the escalators!
Bree Moreno Yupp and in the sequel to Alice in Wonderland is Through the Looking-Glass, where Alice climbs through a mirror and discovered a distorted version of her own universe.
Good one!
The cages of rabbits are in rows of 11.
You missed the growling as she killed was another hint at the twist
Yup...
Good call...
That was her receiving the originals soul
7 seven no that was her remembering who she was. She had suppressed the memories of her being underground when she was a child. As soon as The other started whistling “the Itsy bitsy spider” she remembered who she really was
@@johnnybravo8129 And she acquires her soul.
@@Hyle-King-Neithekaos96 I think the soul isn't a real thing in this movie and is instead something someone can learn to have. Those in the underground are forced to live in shadows of the above. While the above have freedom and agency that give them the opportunity to develop a "soul"
This movie was so good! I though I would be scared due to the trailer, but it was definitely a deeper meaning behind everything
ELEGANT ARTIST same here🙌🏽😄
Same! Wasnt scary to me but intriguing
lol everything was in your face. nothing deep at all
The shadows of the family as they walk across the beach look like the numbers 1111.
Even more creepy, I caught this comment at 111 likes.
After watching the movie a a couple hours ago, and going through the comments. I can attempt to give a brief analysis. Please correct me or ask questions in my theory.
1. Red( is the real natural birth Ade)
Reason:
-she can speak in the living rooom scene but the other clones can’t
-The movie reveals it that way. ( case closed)
2. Ade( is the clone)
Reason:
-She doesn’t know how to speak when she is young after the incident
-She grunts kinda animalistic after killing the twin in the white people house
-She knows exactly how to go down to the laboratory to save Jason
- the movie reveals it to us( case closed)
Now come the theories. Sometimes the simplest answer is the truth.
3. The daughter was not switched.
Reason.
- She was scared when encountering the clones and was genuinely unaware of their existence.
- based on the reaction from Ade( the clone imposter mother) she knew exactly what was up, and attempted to call the police to take care of business
- she ran easy from her clone, the clone chased her to kill her.
The basic narrative for the clones is to kill their originals and take their place. If she had been the clone, she would have been the aggressor.
4. Jason was not switched
Reason:
- he too was oblivious to the existence of a clone , but his clone new actually who he was.
The narrative for the clones in the movie is that they know their originals or have a concept about them. That is why they were created. Or that is why they copy them underground.
- obviously from the wounds on Pluto. Jason could not get his trick to work on the regular world , but Pluto trick worked in tunnels, which would explain why he was injured and Jason was not . It’s that simple.
- Jason was smart. He learned quickly and learned big words, cuss words. His clone was an idiot, and dumb.
It is the given narrative that the clones were created to control the people on the surface.
But it didn’t work.
So the people that created them abandoned the project.
IT DIDNT WORK.
What did work?
The people on the surface were indirectly able to control the clones.
This explains how Red(the real human Ade)was able to indirectly lead her clone (Ade the fake imposter clone) to her in the mirror house.
This explains why the real Jason was able to control the Pluto, his clone in the closet to take his mask off and on. Eventually since Jason was a smart young boy, use this power to make Pluto put himself in the fire. ( plain and simple).
The daughter being a runner and shit is obviously explained . The clone was faster because she is a clone.
The clones have better bodies, and the humans have better minds.
That is the clones are superior in their physical attributes but savage in the mind ( hence the animals sounds and behaviors ) especially Pluto crawling and shit.
The humans are superior mentally.
Now listen carefully. This is where is all leads too.
The children form the clone and the real Ade are half and half. Let me explain.
Then Clone mom had children normally with a real human, ( prince fell in live with a shadow) and the real mom was forced underground to have children with that zombie man.
The children are weird. That is why Pluto is like a fookin aninal but has human intelligence, like his human mom( Red). That is why Jason and Nora are physically weak, but mentally savage and bloodthirsty and ready to kill like their mother Ade( the clone mom revealed at the end).
Again. I repeat. The clones cannot control the real ones. That is why the experiment was abandoned.
The real ones not by design , but by the clones Simply trying so hard to make meaningful go of their existence, try hard to copy the lives of their originals below surface. And more than occasionally, like Red( the real Ade) you are forced by the environment to follow on that path of life. That is why she had the kids without her wanting to have the kids.
There are a lot of overlapping themes to this movie.
Nature vs nurture
Dualism
Etc.
But I just wanted to highlight those topics before someone goes down the rabbit whole of RUclips comments and gets confused...
Again...... Jason was not switched or Nora. The only one switched was Ade and Red.
More info to prove my statement:
1. Jason was scared of Ade when she saved him form the locker, but she was acting like a clone , not a natural mom
2. Jason continued to stare at her in the car because she was odd.
3. When Ade yells at her husband and tells him he is not in control and he stares at her on the drive towards the pier. She was acting odd.
4. Nora was not the aggressor and showed no type of physical superiority in any of her fights with clones. But her clone was jumping on cars and running fast asf and did not talk. She was NOt SWITCHED!!!
5. Jason , the real boy is able to control his clone Pluto in the closet and also to walk into the fire!!!
Ask yourself, why would Pluto try and kill his real clone mom and sister.????? Naw . It’s not the deep.
The only way to be safe in this movie, is to kill your original. Hence form the getgo, you can tell who the clones are in the children. The clones had no fear.
That is why Pluto was not scared of Jason , and the clone was not scared of Nora.
Ade was never scared of Red only concerned with safety of her family.
THe KIDS WERE NOT SWITCHED.
Drum Eyo q
That's why she made her handcuff herself to the table, by simply telling her to do it.
I just want to know how Pluto was able to make that purring or growling noise?
Someone told me that He makes that noise because he is a feral child and he communicates in that special language, but I still don't get how that would cause him to make inhuman purrs.
Please someone explain?
Magnificent explanation !Thank you I was getting confused about the movie especially the ending.
Didn't notice this during the movie, but in the scene at 3:10 of this video there's a very blatant hint: the painting above the fireplace of 3 people in blue and 1 in red. Same color symbolism as the blue blanket + red frisbee and the clothes the characters wear.
I think it's a clue to the twist. In the painting, there are 3 people in blue clothing and 1 person in red clothing. Coincidentally, in frame, there are 3 tethered alongside Red (a non-tethered).
Or the family all in blue - normal and the one in red fake Adelaide- tether
Also, it's the U.S. flag. Red, white blue. The frisbee was Capitan America.
@@germyw I was going to say that...
Nice catch....
Good eye....
The toy that the young boy used to prevent the closet door from closing was an ambulance. Not only was an ambulance seen later on, coming to the family’s aid, but ambulances in general are what provide safety to all of us, and this toy ambulance came to the young boys rescue and kept him safe from his evil self.
Wow subtle clues that I completely missed
And Hospitals supplying the DNA samples to produce the clones.
The ambulance is THE EXACT ONE, too... With the number 1111 on the top, and the number 2 on the back of it.
I found it bizarre to only have the number 2, let alone THE SAME ambulance. Alas, I nothing of the size of Santa Cruz. Could be a super small town. I referenced the ambulance in a few other “details” videos, too. 😉
Also, Jason was switched the year prior, Bud, so there is no evil self.
In the beginning, where they're showing the pictures of the family, I noticed that Adelaide never looked at the camera in the pictures. Thats when I noticed she was a fake
Came back from another viewing. This time I caught that the Tethered kids died the same way Tethered Adelaide (Red) explained how they were born.
Red said that Umbrae was born laughing, she dies upside down in a tree laughing. Pluto was born in fire, he dies by walking backwards into fire.
Whoa I didn't catch that! Nice
Also notice how Adelaide(red) started speaking to Umbraes clone while she was dying. “Chhtt chhtt chttt” and it calmed her down. She knew that was her daughter.
@@jivelydavid785 Interesting one, but I don't think it's true. Shadow Adelaide came into the upper world and had 'normal' kids. The shadow kids are the original Adelaide's kids, born underground.
The number 11 also showed up when the TV said the score of the Giants game. It was 11 to 11
Ryan O'Sullivan also came out on the 22nd. It’s all about the relection

and their address was 2311 Marigold, and 23:11 in military time is 11:11

Anyone else find Zora’s Tethered the most terrifying (Jason’s Tethered, Pluto, takes second)?
That smirk....lol😒
I suspected the twist from the beginning, but really appreciated all the way all the clues and reveal was mapped out throughout the film.
What was the first thing that gave it away for you?
@@mubeenmoosa429 The mother's comments in the phycologist's office and I think the second time they showed what happened in the hall of mirrors, I was thinking "what if." Then all the clues made sense and I saw how they were piecing everything together. I wouldn't say it was necessarily predictable, but all the signs were there hiding in plain sight.
James Robinson I agree 💯%
I guessed it in the trailer when she’s off beat. I just thought that scene was from the ending instead of the beggining.
The son is a tethered too. He is strange and mostly quiet the entire movie. He doesn’t want to eat the food. He is building tunnels at the beach. He comes upon the guy at the beach and is not scared but rather draws a picture of him (including dripping blood hand!) and shrugs it off. He has a connection to the Red Jason and more importantly knows that he can control him. He recognized his mom is tethered but doesn’t seem too upset or scared about it. Also the father talks about how Jason has been having a difficult time since LAST SUMMER. Indicating that the father has noticed a “switch” with his son. He thinks it has to do with the Grandmother dying but it could also be because he has been switched.
Melissa S the dad noticed a switch with the daughter too, he asked her why did she stop track and clearly she couldn’t sprint for shit BUT the tethered version could so that was a huge give away. The dad was too damn smart so he was the only one who didn’t have his tethered version replace him. The real Adelaide won tho by replacing her clones children with her own thus killing the clones children in the process. Despite her insanity The real Adelaide was smarter than Red( imposter).
Melissa S I agree
I saw the same thing! Plus he talks about a magic trick that never seems to be able to do with fire. The other boy's face is burned. Jason above ground keeps putting the mask over his face even though there's nothing wrong with his face. He's mirroring the real Jason underground
Erinn Jones omg that makes perfect sense!! But how did the above ground Jason make him walk into the fire if he’s really the clone? Is it because once they both have on mask the above ground can control the underground?
@@ShayBarnes right! The above Jason learned from the fake Adelaide what to do. Remember all of the reassuring things she kept telling him throughout the movie? Even in the beginning, she was showing him how to stay on beat. She never showed the daughter that stuff. She was more protective of hom because they were the only 2 tethered that switched places and didn't want anyone to get suspicious. The mask was probably worn by Jason before he was switched which explains why both Jasons wore the mask. They were the only tethered that wore something distinctive besides the red suits and leather gloves.
When Adelaide has a flashback to the hall of mirrors, the camera is from the tethered's POV. Adelaide is remembering through the tether's eyes, her own eyes. I thought then that she was the copy.
Omgggg underrated comment
Who else thought for the end credits they should’ve played thriller? That would have been cool !
yes...complete with that scary laughter while showing Adelaide's cheeky smile!
Did anyone notice that the News Report on the television said that storms across the Bay Area was causing power outages? Young Adelaide’s first encounter with her doppelgänger was after she saw the storm on the horizon and it began to rain before she entered the fun House where the power went out and she met her double. Every scene where a family met their double the power went out before they saw them.
I believe that when Originals and their doubles are in proximity it causes some kind of energy/electrical malfunction and this is how young Adelaide’s double was able to ascend the escalator that only went down to find Young Adelaide.
"Down came the rain and washed the spider out".
Red sounds like that because her double chocked her and damaged her voice in the original encounter. Great analysis!
I think it's both. The choking and the fact that she couldn't hold a conversation with anyone for 30 years down there
Omegeddon yeah it’s more of her not having a conversation with a single person for all those years. That’s why as the movie progresses you can see her start talking more fluently like when she’s explaining how she got the underground to band together in the end
I just thought she needed water. 🤦🏾♀️
@@zahria1334 lol

Can we talk about how Jason was the only one who could control his tethered???
Jada Amos But that's what his mom did to the original Adelaide in the beginning of the film. I think he inherited the trait.
Jada Amos that’s what his tethered is, a control being
I think he's the only one who figured it out. But, I think all regulars can control their tethers
When young Adelaide was playing with toys while her parents were speaking to the therapist, she lined up the figurines in the box of sand, like Hands Across America
I would have to say the white rabbits and their location being an underground network of tunnels behind a secret door is symbolic of Alice in wonderland. Just as Alice’s descent down the rabbit hole lead to madness, so did Adilades descent down into the tunnels where she spent 30 years with these clones, who were distorted versions of real people. Not to mention the madness she had to endure.
Aubrey White yes like the rabbit hole
dude im so glad someone else thought of this too.
Yes! I immediately thought of Alice in Wonderland too!
Jordan Peele said the rabbits are to represent Easter.
Aubrey White I thought of Alice too down the rabbit hole
when they were in kitty and joshes house, Jason eats a fruit loop in a clear bowl with no milk, referencing one of the last scenes in get out when the girlfriend Rose is on her bed eating fruit loops in a clear bowl with no milk
Now that's a real Easter egg right there!!! Bravo!!! Call back to the previous film. I noticed that too and found that quite odd.
holy fuck i didn't peep that
I thought it was Crunch Berries. Seriously.
Wtf! I completely missed this!!! When did he have time to eat??! He grabbed the crystal, hit the lady and came back in the house to watch his mom kill the last twin. Was it when they were watching the news report? U gon make me watch this a 3rd time 😩
I noticed that!
Red didn't explicitly reveal the swap, she just spoke of how she suffered while Adelaide thrived, giving more detail compared to the "fairy tale" she told when they first all met. So it wasn't that Jason heard Red say "you are the Tethered, you locked me away", he pieced all the clues together and figured it out (or it was implied he did). That ending makes it far better because it shows how clever he was, and not just needing to be told
Although, after that monologue, Red whispers something to Adelaide after the fight begins in the classroom (I don't know if it's actually audible but if someone can read lips it's likely a spoiler)
When Adalede stabbed the white clone one final time in the neighbors house while the family was in the car, the son walked in and heard her grunting and breathing just like one of the clones. She changed her breathing and snatched him to the car when she looked up and saw him… he was looking at her strangely
Then when she killed the original red, she stabbed her and pulled the pole out her chest and then she began strangling her with handcuffs until she stopped whistling. Then she began laughing until the locker made a sound, she looked up like she was onto someone and went to open the locker where her son was. She pulled him out but he looked scared staring at her, she hugged him and said they are all gone do you understand but he said no she just held his hand and it switched to the next scene where they were in the car they showed that she had switched and then when that scene went off he was staring at her…
No one seems to realize the son Jason represent magic. It's so many clues pointing to this, which is why he controls his double ganger. It's stated out right about his magic trick, his shirt with the bow tie. The magic game in the closet as his plays with his double ganger. The crystal rock he uses as a weapon and the rabbit he leaves with in the end.
I just got that “I Got Five On It” is about going in half-and-half on a dime bag. This movie, man. 👯♀️

@@TheArchitect097 can someone explain?
Another big tell was Adelaide getting out of the car to check on Zora's Tethered doppelganger. At a glance you might think it's a maternal reaction because she's seeing someone who looks like her daughter suffer and die but it's deeper. The Tethered are technically her people. Perhaps she feels for her. Adelaide understands her suffering and desire to be above ground.
Thank you! This is what I've been trying to tell people using the part about her being so affected when Pluto burned alive...it wasn't because Jason and Pluto were switched, it was because Pluto was one of her own...she knew what it was like to be underground.
Exactly, and she feels the same way about the tethered Jason. When she gets out the car to confront him, she doesn't hurt him and the family is like what is she doing? And for a second it looks like shes whispering to him so yeah she definitely feels for the tethered children as a tethered herself. She was not happy when tethered Jason died in the fire at all.
I really can’t believe that Addy had no eyebrows when she went into the “find yourself room” then when the Tethered came to the Wilson’s house, Red had no eyebrows... shoulda noticed
•The Rabbits are arranged in 11 cages in a row
•in Jason's room when Adelaide first walks in, there is a picture of people holding hands
•When Red walked in to their house in the beginning, she knew where the hidden key was
•Adelaide is constantly grunting when she kills people like it's in instinct
•The only reason why red can talk is because she was taken as a little girl and the only reason she sounds like that is because she has not used her vocal chords in a long time
•When Teathered Kittens husband died, she pretended to cry then started laughing due to her hatred for him expressed by the beginning when surface kitten said "I hate you" to him
•Umbrae was born laughing, she died laughing
•the girls playing "rock paper scissors" in the beginning kept getting scissors
•handcuffs were used on Adelaide (Red) because she handcuffed Red (Adelaide) to the bed in the beginning
•the toy used to block the door from locking in the beginning is the same paramedics car used to drive at the end
•when they we're watching the news at Kitty's house, the channel was 11
•there are many paintings in the vacation house that have two or more people, half in blue and half in red
•in the beginning on the car is the sticker family holding hands
•Jason asked for a dog in the very beginning. Adelaide said no, but Pluto, his double, basically is a fire living dog, as seen from his behavior
• At the end, barely anyone, if nobody else survived. This is probably due to the fact that Adelaide is full teathered, and her children are half teathered, which might give them the instinct to survive with themselves. Really only the Father had something broken
•each character represents an element. Father=water. Mother=earth. Zora=wind. Jason=Fire
•Zoras shirt may look like popular adolescent lingo, but it actually says "thó" which means "rabbit" in Vietnamese
•Adelaide is a gemini
•There is the leader (Adelaide, Red), The fool (Gabe, Abraham), The warrior (Zora, Umbrae), and the wizard (Jason, Pluto)
•when Red crushed Adelaide's head on the table, there was a cup with people holding hands on it
•Plutos mask is a mask used to keep burn victims' faces intact
Most of everything you see is red over blue or blue over red, representing the surface and the teathered, and America
•rabbits were probably down there due to the fact that scientists experiment on them as well as other animal. It must have worked on the rabbits, but not the humans
•just like Get Out, there is an excessive use of innocent animals
•The tunnel that young Adelaide went through was talking about a tale that spoke about some sort of spider woman
Why...she didnt just say she is the fake me
I believe the son was swapped with his doppelganger one year before the events of the movie as well! There are a couple of hints in the movie to bring me to this theory. (Keep in mind they visit this vacation house anually)
1. When the dad is trying to convince Adelaide's character to go to Santa Cruz he states how it would be good for their son as he hasn't been the same since the death of a family member one year prior
2. The boy doppelganger has only been above ground for a year, and he is learning to speak and extend his vocabulary which explains his frequent use of vulgar language.
3.This could also explain why he could not "remember" how to do his magic trick throughout the course of the movie, as he has never learned.
4. Whenever the dad told Jason to get the bat when the Red family first arrives, notice Jason doesn’t remember a bat.
5. Could also explain why Red or the "Real" Adelaide did not kill him and only put him in a locker at the end as she is the one who raised his for a majority of his life.
6. I also think that Adelaide the clone who pretends to be the original realizes that the son in the Red was actually her son in the scene right before he walks backwards into the fire, and that's why she is screaming for him to not walk into his death.
7. There also could be a connection as to why he is always wearing that werewolf mask as his actual self is always putting on the mask to cover his burns.
8. And just to wrap this theory up throughout the movie he witnesses Adelaide kill two of the clones (one of the girl twins, and her own) in which both instances she shows extreme aggression as well letting out slight growls while brutalizing the clones. And in the ending scene in the car it shows him realize that Adelaide is a really a clone like him so he puts his mask on to symbolize them living in disguise.
Läng To add to your theory. After Clone Adelaide kills Red & reunites with Jason, she makes a big deal of brushing her hair back to appear more like Red (intertwining their fingers) & stating how everything will go back to the way it was.
Jason never seemed as scared as the dad and the sister. But why was the other kids face burned then? Is that why she switched them out because he was disfigured??
Mike G ooohhh I thought she said was born OF the fire. Not Love fire. I also thought they were switched but at birth since she also said he was cut from her stomach and had to take him from her since she had a c section.
Mike G i could be wrong but did the grandma die in the fire? Could it be thats why he was not the same after she died. When red sat down and the boy lit the fireplace she said “careful not to burn the house down” was she referring to him getting burned then switching him out?
Adelaide forgot that she is the shadow though, as she got older from when she switched with red, she slowly forgot, but near the end she starts to remember what happened.

@@moderater2.048 Maybe you're each other's tether
I want to bring up an interesting theory I have about Jason. They seemed to be hinting throughout the movie that there was something strange going on with him. Jason's strange memory loss is the first thing that really struck me -- He couldn't remember how to do the magic trick that he had learned the previous summer at the house and when his father told him to go get the baseball bat before he tried to scare away the family in the driveway, Jason responded, "What bat?" looking confused before his sister runs off to grab it. He continually made connections about what was going on that the others couldn't see (example: him being suspicious that his mother was a tether).
And he was digging tunnels on the beach instead of castles(!).
I believe that Jason could have also been switched, perhaps the previous summer, with the tethered version.
This could potentially be connected to why red Jason has been disfigured on his face by burns, leaving him unable to speak.
She also comforts the tethered daughter while she slowly dies in the trees.
the son inherited more of the mothers tethered genes than his sister did (she obviously takes more after her dad) this was proven by the fact he could control his tethered , his tunnel and the fact he took the white rabbit
Very nice! But some people say that if he was switched, wouldn't he have had to learn English? Wouldn't he have been mute until he caught on? The clone mother was mute when she stole the originals life as a little girl because in the tunnels they don't have language.
@@Thatdentalgurl I think it could be argued that Jason actually has very little dialogue and sometimes gets his phrases mixed up -- "kiss my anus" maybe this is showing that he is still learning English.
Marjorie H That is an interesting point but even when he said that, he showed he was deliberate in that vocabulary because it “anus” was not a curse word, especially since he had cursed earlier. But that only goes back to your statement that he is learning of the English language that certain words are bad words (like curse words)
Right off the bat with the magic trick being similar to a lighter I was like "Chekhovs gun: that kid is going to die by fire." While he didn't, his tether did so I was half right. Also Tim Heidecker's character was an example of evil on both sides. His tether was supposed to join hands after completing his mission (of killing his other self) but instead wanted to settle in and even took the time to antagonize Gabe just like his top-side self did. This was a sign that both nature and nurture exist in this universe and some people are just irredeemable. I feel like it was Peele's warning to anyone who came away from this thinking his message was: "All under-privileged are good and all privileged are bad." That was not the message and Heidecker's character proved it by being bad no matter what.
I think the doppelgänger developed a soul. She was loving, caring, and showed everything a person with a soul would have.
Either souls don’t exist or it all depends on the environment a human is raised.
Red (the original) showed no soul... yet she “had a soul”.. she became evil.
The doppelgänger was more good than Red.
Yes...and no. Red didn't see herself as evil. She sees herself as getting justice or revenge for a wrong that was done to her. She didn't even kill her clone right away. So she had a soul. But what happens to any soul that has suffered injustice and torture over a long period?
Deena Price exactly so it’s not like Adelaide didn’t have a soul.. she was raised with love as Red would’ve.
In the environment Red was in, she lost humanity and became an animal, she still had touch with her human self but it’s barely there anymore.
You forgot she planned for the tethered to come out and kill the originals so that’s pretty evil even if the intention to get revenge
It also begs the question: is revenge the answer? The young tether didn't have to trap the real Addy down there(I use 'trapped' loosely). Why does someone have to be on bottom for us to be on top? Maybe this movie is a Rorschach for personal views, but I couldn't help but see that.
I love movies without a clearcut hero/villain. They're both awful, and yet good. They both want a life.
Something I noticed that no one else seemingly has is how the 1111 guy was the first one to be killed by his clone. This makes sense when you consider that the last person Adelaide saw before being switched WAS the 1111 guy. It's not a major point but just one I clocked
This was more a proximity thing, the 11:11 guy is literally right outside which is why his double is almost at the stairs when we get any visual of him. Also explains why he's the first dead and his tether is the first to start the line. What's confusing is why his tether looks so different from the original
Jayarie I think he was supposed to be an older version
The MJ Thriller reference is how in the video he started out as a reg person and transformed into a monster and the make-up on Lupita's double is similar to Michael's zombie.
Chillmonger yup I noticed that immediately. Her eyes looked sunken in like when Mike first transforms a zombie.
That could also explain why she chose red as the Tethered's color and the single glove. MJ wore all red in the Thriller video.
Kidastro123
It does. Remember she had been having nightmares since seeing “Thriller”, so it likely continued Below. Especially since her new reality mimicked the circumstances of the video.
I love how when Adelaide is on the couch, the shot goes from the spider crawling to a close up of her face with her hair looking a bit like spider legs. Spiders being symbolically tricksters in old stories, it might have been another hidden clue that she was the doppelganger the whole time.
Can we all just admit that in the beginning of the movie that the rabbits were ADORABLE ? 😂😂🥰😍😘
i wonder if the "run rabbit" song in 'get out' was tied to this?!
GaBoiGregG it’s not. There is no comparison in films per Mr.Peele
It is. I seen another video like this, and it is.
@@JustHere751 It is. The same universe. Watch his new interview.
You are right.
JustHere why wouldnt it be though? It has similar characteristics of the conspiracy of tainted America
Okay I think the “notice how the board game in the background is flipped upside down just like adelaides life after 1986” is complete over-analysis
he said EVERYTHING in the movie has a meaning
Movie sets are meticuously designed, especially in a close shot like the one where you see the game. Nothing is by accident.
You and who thumbed you up need to study movies. You sound dumb as shit. Movie sets are hone over with a fine tooth comb. And nothing you see is by accident.
Jason Bourne yea you tell em jason bourne, totally right
noW *THIS* IS A STORY ALL ABOUT HOW MY LIFE GOT FLIPPED TURNED UPSIDE DOWN
If anyone couldn’t tell, the scissors are a huge symbol. Scissors were carried by each and every one of the tethered when they came to the surface, my guess is that the scissors symbolize both duality and individuality. You need both blades to cut, but each blade can still stand alone. In this movie, it’s full of nuances of individuality within the duality that is the tethered. They want to be their own people and they want to separate themselves from their unwilling oppressers. “Cutting ties” if you will.
The clones can't be on beat when they snap. What does say about someone like Blueface?
😁🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
When Adelaide tells Gabe the story of when she wandered off that night in 1986, look at the window she's facing. With the right light, and the right angle, you can see your reflection in a window. At that moment, you couldn't see hers. Seconds later, when you do see it, what's when Red and her family appear outside. In fact, when she's telling the story, it's -- fittingly -- a reflection of when we first see her: it's with her back to humanity.
Apparently, Zora's shirt had a word on it, which was Vietnamese for "rabbit." A nod for what was about to happen, as well as a callback to Peele's movie Get Out, since Zora was a sprinter, and Get Out had the song "Run, Rabbit, Run."
The Wilson family represented the middle class; they struggled, and fought, because that's what the middle class does to survive. Their friends in that fancy house? That's the upper class. They don't know about struggle, which is why their Tethered picked them off without a fuss. A social commentary -- the middle class have to fight to survive, while -- in a struggle -- the upper class wouldn't stand a chance. That point was elevated by the HILARIOUS joke their Ophelia system had with the police call. (oddly enough, Ophelia is a variant of Greek word for "help")
Also look a the scissors ✂️ in the movie they also symbolizes the attachment of the original people and their doppelgängers, and this is why the scissors were used to cut the link between the two by killing the originals.
Aubrey White that makes sense. I was thinking that it was tied to the thriller movie nods(Freddie Krueger wore a leather glove with blades, Jason Vorhes had the mask, just like the son Jason in the movie and they wore red outfits, just like Michael Jackson in the Thriller video)
Agree, plus the scissors are a pair of double blades symbolic of the one above and the tethered below
One of the biggest clues to Adelaide being a Tethered was when she was telling the story of what happened to "her" as a child to Gabe: the camera POV begins with her back facing Gabe and slowly pans up to show her reflection telling the story which was her exact same position when the real Adelaide meets her in 1986, first her back is facing Adelaide and she turns to show her "reflection".
I realized the twist once we saw “Adelaide” killing one of the twins in the house. Jason looked terrified
Hey one theory I got in my head......when Adelaide said to Zora “put your shoes on” (CAUSE ZORA RAN TRACK) could that have also been cause she knew the family was a doppelgänger family and had a doppelgänger of zora that ran jus as well if not better/faster and knew that Zora would have to run for her life ???
Yes!
The movie is made to be watched 2x. It's two complete different movies if you don't know the plot twist when watching the first time than it is on 2nd watch. So "put your shoes on" makes a WORLD of more sense if she knows what's up. She seemed crazy and paranoid without that info. That's on purpose and I LOVE it.
marie watson yes I watched it today on this movie website.....there’s no way someone will get certain things on the first go....watching the second time u notice everything
@@germyw ok that gave me goosebumps because he said every single thing had signifcant
@@Culley91 whats that website because i want to watch again
The carnival games all were 2 tickets. Resembling 2 of the same 1 thing
LazyBrosVidz Good one. Also the tickets at carnivals are usually labeled as "1 ticket" so two tickets per ride could also reference 11.
And she wanted the #11 prize
And they said the cops will be there in 15 minutes 15 - 4 = 11
@@eggheadusa9900 I thought she said 14. Darn I have to watch it again, lol
Koko Brown she did say 14 minutes
Adelaide had children of control. Red had children of "soul". The doppelganger daughter can run faster and the son can do the lighter trick. The families are counterparts to each other, the ones on the surface control while the ones below execute the desired actions.
