- The Mamang Trail over in Fitzgerald National Park can be done as an easy overnight walk or a day walk as I did it today. This walk is a nice one for both the diversity of flora to be seen and also the reasonably good chance of seeing whales over winter and early spring. There is little the way of elevation gain on this walk, however the majority of the distance is on sand, either through the dunes or on the beach, so it’s a little harder than maybe imagined if you look at the route on a map.

Googled it and there are Mallee Fowl over there. Damn nice walk. 👍👍
lol…yes, I noticed a road sign warning of them on the drive out of the park😉👍
Thanks Kevin.. another one to add to my bucket list 👍👍
You won’t be disappointed, it’s a beautiful place 😉👍
Those rocks are absolutely mad
lol, yes they are crazy, tilted random outcrops everywhere!
Thanks for sharing your adventures. The nature was lovely!
Fitzgerald River NP is an amazing place for sure!👍
Loved this video.
It’s a nice trail Johanna… and there were whales! ❤️🤣
Oh yeah - seeing whales with whale babies (calves) is something that makes life a bit transcendental and magical. And the snake is also exciting, in a different way(!) Beautiful day out by the looks of it.
I found out later that the snake was actually a Legless Lizard🤷♂️… and the whales were very special ❤️
Wow, that was an unexpected blast from the past. I biked through there on my way from Esperance to Albany via Hopetoun and Bremer Bay. I camped at St Mary's campsite for a couple of nights and had a day trip up to the other end of that long beach you also trekked. I remember climbing up the hill at the end a bit and watching a 4WD cruising down, then doing a U turn and returning without stopping. Water is a real problem through there are the rivers are all salty. The campsite shelter had water so I could spend extra time there.
Any walking tracks were closed at the time due to dieback. Have to say I loved camping at the inlets along there. I stayed at Hammersley Inlet with almost a million black swans, and got into a sandpit at Gordons Inlet. The flora was certainly pretty special as are those rounded granite hills around East and West Mt Barren. I managed to squeeze in some walks in the Stirling Range and Porongurup National Parks. It seems they have spent $40 m on facilities since I visited on Fitzgerald River to make it more accessible.
I've got a few more walks from Fitzgerald River NP scheduled... I loved it there. I was a planning on doing the Ridge Walk in the Stirling Ranges when I was over there, however my knee as giving me problems so I gave the Ridge Walk a miss on this trip. I did sneak into the Porongurups for a nice walk though. You can see where the money went in Fitzgerald River NP, particularly down the eastern end!
Looks like it would be pretty tough if it was raining, very hot & sunny, or when all the flies come alive!
Yes, this one is very exposed Paul… it would be miserable on a really hot or cold day👍😉
Mammoth whales,size wize
It's a good walk when I get to check out some whales I think!
@goinferal5815 we saw them off Noosa last weekend. Bloody awesome.
