My brother had one of these. We built whole cities in our back yard. Thank you for sharing. I miss my little brother very much. After Vietnam he was lost mentally. Now he has gone to a better place.
This is my favorite restoration so far. I had a “Big Mike” snowplow which was handed down to me from a cousin. Like all my Tonka’s it got played with outside and Big Mike got pretty rusty over the years from “plowing snow”. I truly love the detail and craftsmanship that went into bringing this awesome piece of childhood history back to life.
You just know that truck sat under a Christmas tree back in '57 and made a boy's Christmas morning and a lot of hours afterwards fun! I received a lot of Tonka Toys as a kid for Christmas. They were special gifts!
Chip, i’ve been watching your restoration videos for a couple years now. I thoroughly enjoy the start to finish, including your cat at the end. I’ve seen the growth of changing from a hand press, to an electric press. Also, the CNC machine, and other tools you’ve changed, or upgraded to which makes your shop look so professional and the go to person if you wanted to restore an old pressed steel truck. There are many other individuals who also restore, toys, etc. that I give kudos to, but none compared to you. Thanks for always taking the time and care to show everything you do, including the weld bond to cover, imperfections, pitting, etc.
These videos are how I chill before bed. Thank you for your service. (BTW, the slot in the tailgate is so it can be locked partially open. You would fill the dumper with sand, then tilt it up with the gate open a crack to spread sand over the road.)

@@janbaer3241 he's saying that the "collectors" would pay more for one all beat up and rusted, compared to one fully restored, and he thinks that's ridiculous. Each video you produce is always top notch, entertaining, and the detail throughout the restoration process are fantastic! This particular Big Mike must have experienced a plow change in its life at some point. The plows with the indentations (one on each side and clearly seen) actually were produced for the slightly newer 58 model plow trucks. With their square corners, the plows were then made with those indentations to allow for fit on the front corners of the hood and front bumper area. It's somewhat rare to see these particular plows as compared to the older style with just the smooth plow surface. The older plows will fit, although very tightly, onto the newer 58 style cabs. The restored plow here has no issues fitting nicely onto the older and more rounded style cab. As always, another wonderful video. I look forward to each and everyone . Not to mention the fact that I look forward to seeing the cat inspect the finished product! Thanks a million for all you do!
Finally a new show - wow the wait was agonizing to say least.Thank you for bringing the smile again. Now this one toy that was put to the test by the kid who played with it.The ROI was worth it.

Another amazing restoration! I don't remember the boys in my neighborhood having this particular truck in the 60's, but I do remember playing with the Tonkas in the snow (and heat and rain). Watching you give these old rust buckets new life takes me back to my childhood, but the process and problem-solving are also fascinating to watch!
Those toys ran on the greatest energy of all - imagination. My late father was, for a long time, a civil engineer, and so, my kid brother and I were given Tonka toys as presents. They worked, too, just like the machines my father was in charge of. We had an area of dirt in the garden that we could do what we liked with. Our Tonka toys, a few figures, and we'd play for hours, in all weathers, too. Not a care in the world. Such happy days!
No doubt about the quality 9f restoring that Tonka truck. This reminds me a sad time. As we were 4 chidrens in the family, those trucks were too expensive at the time. So... I was finally lucky enough to play with those who had trucks like this one. It's my first time seeing that trick version coming with a front plow. It is simply awesome.
Definitely one of the more interesting and unusual ones you've restored so far. I almost hoped you'd leave the plow as it was and clear coat it since it looked as if it was worn from road plowing. Cool model. Nice job!
Another loving masterpiece of restoration. Thank you! Can we get a round of applause for Tonka's Designers, toolmakers etc? What a realistic result to fuel a young kid's imagination. Just like the real thing. In my distant memory I'm still enjoying the slow rise of that hydraulic lift. Love it.
I watched quite a few of your videos before subscribing. Although these pieces are old and the metal is pitted, you do not compromise on the finish of the painted product. This is where all the work is.... I like how you plate and polish the axles/metal parts etc.., and make new parts when required..You are a great restorer of these old toy's. turning them into museum pieces, but with I suspect, a far superior finish than the originals ever had. It's all good work, keep it up...
Jeez, I found one of those pre-1958 Tonka "Big Mike" dump truck with snowplow at a flea market in the Chicago area about 15 or so years ago. Paid about $35.00. It was in somewhat better condition than what you started out with here. Nonetheless, I sold it a little while later at a handsome profit to a Tonka collector. Incredibly nice restoration job on your part and thanks for sharing!
Another magnificent restoration approved by the one and only Beaker! The work in those homemade tandems alone is worthy of its own video. About the only other place you’ll see these great old Tonkas looking this good is on an old episode of “Gumby.” Bravo!
Powdercoating is always a favorite part of mine, and the More Coats, the better! But, I’m also becoming rather fond of the odd flesh-tone/pale Salmon color of the primer too! For a 'pink', it has a curious olive undertone that reads as rather 'earthy'… Lovely as always! Thank You!
All your videos are so much fun to watch. Just so relaxing and satisfying. I can just imagine how long it took to make these to get each shot just perfect with everything working with each operation.
I had an old Tonka dump truck similar to this given to me by the neighbors son back in late 70's. Spray painted over several times but was mostly orange and black (still my favorite colors ) . I guess I am a super realistic pretender, because it was an old truck I had to park it on a hill so to Roll Start it to play with it. When other kids came over to play and left it sitting elsewhere I would have to get my Tonka pickup and drive it over to Jump Start it. Not Kidding.
I enjoy watching these restoration vids. I notice that some who do these just rip at the toy, show no respect for the object and toss parts around. They have no patience with camera angles and in general I don't enjoy the process. I have watched several of your restorations and I appreciate your handling of the item and careful camera work. Your care shows a level of involvement with the process that others could learn from.

I’m all out of adjectives to praise your work, Chip! Another satisfying video of excellent and creative workmanship. Hello to Beaker the Cat!👍👍👍 ~ John
Wow! This is quite and impressive restoration. I can venture out and claim that it probably looks way better than when it was manufactured the first time. Great job as always.👏
So far for me this is the best video of the Chip channel 🤠 . The color of the toy is fabulous, moreover the era of this truck is before the plastic (maybe the wheels are from plastic, from the video I can't decide whether they are plastic or gum) . This truck has a soul, I am sure it was the favourite toy a lot of little boy. And the jackpot is the cute cat at the end.
I went back and looked at your disassembly of the plow blade; Tonka painted the individual parts before assembling them. When you reassembled the plow blade before you painted it, I thought "There's unprotected metal that's going to rust eventually and mar that beautifully restored truck." Had a similar thought about the dump body. Water is insidious and could very well have penetrated the sides; I was surprised that you didn't remove the end caps from the back of the dump.
Always like what you do to these toys from my childhood, especially when you manufacture new pieces. I also get a chuckle from the little stuffed figures you have in the pieces. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for all the videos I know that a single restore takes weeks and weeks to do and a lot of work it is much appreciated going to try my first restore soon just trying to learn from the best
I would be proud to drive that rig! You kept the color and restored the vibrancy of this classic. I was suprised that you did not make tires, but sometimes time wins out! I want to be on your road team!
Another super restoration. Your collection is growing. Pretty soon you’ll be building shelves for your walls to show off your fabulous collection. Carol from California
I've been waiting for this one since I saw it. It's amazing how complex this toy is, I thought its only difference with others Tonka trucks would be a big plate of metal in its front, but it ended having a lot of pieces!
Please don't take this the wrong way because I love watching your videos while I'm conscious too but one of my favorite ways to watch your videos is to put them on playlist and sleep to them

Hi Chip, it's good to see you again. I've missed your restorations. Have you good one mate. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thank you Cathy Benson!!! Hopefully the next one is up in three weeks from today!
I look forward to it.
I’m all out of adjectives to praise your work, Chip! Another satisfying video of excellent and creative workmanship. Hello to Beaker the Cat!👍👍👍 ~ John
Great restoration on that 1957. It has a 1958 V plow on it. Notice the dimples on the plow. They are there to cover the square nose of the 58.
I need to send you some of my Tonka Toys to you. Excellent work They are the ones our parents gave us for Christmas when we were kids
My life goal is to be as confident as you are at placing stickers and decals
Wow! This is quite and impressive restoration. I can venture out and claim that it probably looks way better than when it was manufactured the first time. Great job as always.👏
It is a super project, I enjoyed all the steps. Merci beaucoup Mr Chip. We still have this truck in Montréal. 😍
Bravo, maestro!
It's hard to imagine it ever looked that good when it was new.
I'm sure toys has to be proud feel after reborn again. Great work and you taking care of all close details. so proud of you. love you lots.
Thank you Yakub Patel!! 🤗
Awesome restoration by a skilled craftsman Enjoy watching you work
So far for me this is the best video of the Chip channel 🤠 . The color of the toy is fabulous, moreover the era of this truck is before the plastic (maybe the wheels are from plastic, from the video I can't decide whether they are plastic or gum) . This truck has a soul, I am sure it was the favourite toy a lot of little boy. And the jackpot is the cute cat at the end.
you did a great job restoring the snow plow truck.
They don't make them like that ant more. Back then, they were the best toys ever made. Super awesome job. 😀👍
Thank you for all the videos I know that a single restore takes weeks and weeks to do and a lot of work it is much appreciated going to try my first restore soon just trying to learn from the best
Oddly satisfying watching the sandblasting. Also like how you powder coat them rather than paint.
Thank you for showing the sandblasting I find it oddly satisfying thank you and relaxing thank you
Thank you!
Ви робите дуже добру, корисну і навіть благородну справу!
Браво!
Привет Chip, как всегда хорошая работа 👍

Thank you!
I would be proud to drive that rig! You kept the color and restored the vibrancy of this classic. I was suprised that you did not make tires, but sometimes time wins out! I want to be on your road team!
If a toy can be called gorgeous this one would fit the bill, a wonderful restoration!
Another super restoration. Your collection is growing. Pretty soon you’ll be building shelves for your walls to show off your fabulous collection. Carol from California
That was another great restoration. Mind you that was a good looking truck. Stay well Mick🇬🇧
Hey Chip, you really brought this one back to life. As always, nice job! 👍👍
Thanks again razorboyXVII!!!
Agreed!
I've been waiting for this one since I saw it. It's amazing how complex this toy is, I thought its only difference with others Tonka trucks would be a big plate of metal in its front, but it ended having a lot of pieces!
Please can we see more sheep. They are precious and do enjoy taking a ride.
Please don't take this the wrong way because I love watching your videos while I'm conscious too but one of my favorite ways to watch your videos is to put them on playlist and sleep to them
