Darkseid is. Loved this series and have the individual issues. Not sure yet if I'm getting the hardcover or soft. Good overview, brother. I'd say Watchmen did the 9 panel grid better especially with the transitional panels, but I thought this comic did it really well too, although it was a lot more repetitive than Watchmen with certain panels. David Aja is doing it on The Seeds comic with Ann Noecenti too (great comic.. check it out when/if it's finished and collected) and didn't Tom King's Omega Men use the 9 panel grid too?
Omega Men did, you are correct, my friend. I liked the sneaking in of full pages in this one. Watchmen had so much more insanity in each panel because of Gibbons. Thank you and I will be checking out The Seeds when that is collected.
I love this book so much that I had to get the paperback immediately as it came out, but I will be upgrading to an absolute whenever DC decides to print it. I'm sure they will sooner or later.
wound up getting myself the trade, loved this story so much. so much so that a friend bought me a copy as a surprise. now i have two copies. great job on the review omar, stellar content as usual, keep up the great work.
Sadly that's the conundrum that is DC. They released 6 "omnibus" Hardcovers years ago. Volume 3 is out of print along with a couple of others. Then they released the softcover trades and cancelled volume 4... so DC for you. I hope one day they make two omnis and do the right thing.
I really loved this series. Made me want to put Vision near the front of my to read pile. Omar, did this book do anything to make you reconsider uour position towards the original Kirby's Fourth World books? I know it's not in the scope of your DC, but maaaybe do an exception? Love your videos. Thanks!
The Fourth World comics are my favorite Kirby art. His writing isn't really up to par with Stan Lee's but Kirby was absolutely killing it on art when he left Marvel and went to work for DC. Kamandi was so good too.
Not going to lie, I really want to buy that damn Fourth World omnibus now... I have a weird rule that my DC started with Crisis on Infinite Earths, but I also snuck Kamandi in there. :) Sooo I'm curious if I would enjoy FW.
@@NearMintCondition new Gods and Mister Miracle parts of the fourth world Omnibus are really really really good... this was the exception to the everything I read DC is after crisis on infinite Earths for me...
Wow I had no idea it wasnt Oversized. Pretty disappointing, but I was holding out for a Hardcover and the design for the dress is brilliant so Im picking it up anyway. Im sure there will be an Absolute one day that will be the definitive way to own it, but until then this will suffice. BTW not releasing it in HC the first time around was a real dick move by DC. They were pretty much banking on people not being able to wait, and then double dipping.
Yeah, for that price it should have been. Their collected editions department is getting a big restructure so hopefully in the future they will make some wiser decisions.
@@NearMintCondition I ordered it from Instocktrades for like $20 so I'm okay with that price, but 35 bucks for a standard size hardcover is crazy. Hopefully whoever ends up in charge of the collected edition department has their head on straight.
Im buying library editions , manga, oversized manga etc so im starting to get over the different sizes of books . somethimes i actually preffer the regular standart size
Thanks for the video. I preordered this thinking it was an OHC. I made the same mistake with the Batman White Knight HC. Now I’m tempted to just return them and keep waiting. Also that non removable sticker is just irritating!
Thanks for the video Omar 👍. I want to get into Goon & Usagi Yojimbo but not sure which collection to pick up. Can you please do a review\ recommendation for these series?
Lucky for you, my brother that both Usagi is bought by IDW and the books will be collected in color and the Goon Eric Powell is doing his own publishing of his omnis.
I was guilty of this for a while too but it’s Mitch Gerads, not Gerard. No r after the a. Anyways that hardcover is beautiful and I’m heavily considering double dipping to get it (have all the singles).
Well I wish it knew it was sold out online because I could have bought this while I was just n Melbourne 2 days ago 😔 oh well, at least I have a hundred other books that I will never read 😂
I've tried many many times. Seriously. I DC Golden and Silver is not for me, but I did enjoy most of the Bronze age. I may give Fourth World another crack.
Mine is still in the mail, I ordered off tfaw because I wasn't sure my lcs would have it and figured ist would sell out (which I believe they did). That said, somehow I wasn't anticipating it would be shc, thought it would be ohc for sure so I could put it next to my copies of Sheriff of Babylon and Vision. So that's annoying. Still looks good but it's annoying. DC has been making a lot of weird choices lately.
Omar, you must have got your order in early at IST. I ordered mine on Thu last week and they have run out of copies in their inventory. I am still waiting one week later for them to get them in as my order is still pending. I order this book along with the WW Omni as I didn't have those stories in any other edition (including the Absolute). It looks like it's worth the wait though.
I think I ordered it on Tuesday, I really didn't know that it was going to sell out in a day. People are going to comic stores trying to find a copy. I'm sure there is more stock coming and that cover of the Barnes and Noble exclusive is nice too.
Hey Omar, great video as usual, I was just wondering if you could tell me where I can find this book. I've looked online and can't seem to find it anywhere.
Yes as Mario states IST is your best bet for these types of books. They will probably have a reprinting of it or you can get it as Barnes and Nobles later with their exclusive cover.
I want this BUT I just saw there’s a new hardcover on preorder (deluxe edition) the problem is, what’s the difference!? Anyone can help?? Also this pages look very thin 😞

Near Mint Condition interesting, also when do you think battle chasers will get another hardcover printing? I know they did it once, but that printing is well out of stock.
I was going to buy it until you mentioned it's not oversized. I hate that DC is using this format more and more for their hardcovers. We have a similar problem with french comics although it is less prevalent. I don't want to go in details about the different formats in french comics but in a nutshell the Absolute US format is pretty much the standard format for french comics with some comics using a smaller format ( equivalent to an OHC US format). In the last few years a lot of integrales ( omnibuses) have been published in the smaller format (US OHC or in some cases US standard format). As a principle i try not to buy comics in smaller formats because i don't want to encourage that trend. And i don't buy DC comics if they are in standard formats no matter how good the comic is. I don't have the same rigid principle for image comics because they creators owned but there is no excuse for DC.
I am completely with you, my friend. I love the damn series, but to charge 35 dollars for a standard hardcover that was a bit much... but then I think of the new Uncanny trade with 10 issues for 40 bucks!
So heard SO MUCH hype for this... read it in singles yesterday. Huge disappointment. Loved King's Vision series, but this, Sheriff of Babylon and Omega Men? All misfires for me. :( At least it forces me to exercise caution, and not dive into buying deluxe versions straight out of the gate!!
Looks like shit art, figures you'd like the fairy color cover. Now that that's out the way. Great review thx and have a great day now excuse me while I try not to puke. :)
Tom King + Mitch Gerads = Gold. Wonderful tribute to Jack Kirby. A Must Have.
It’s phenomenal
Tom King and his entire coming to becoming a writer is so awesome. Between Vision, Babylon, this and Batman, he's on his way to legendary status.
I've also enjoyed his Omega Men. Some great stuff already under his resume.
Great story... but why a standard size hardcover?
Only DC knows🤔
You said it... DC. Go figure.
I'll probably get it. I've enjoyed some of Tom King's Batman run.
This is really good. Even though different than his Batman run.
