Then you plugged the BRay player into a port on the TV...Not into a port on the AVR??? I bought a brand new Sony STRDH790 AV receiver. I just could not get eARC to work at all. After lengthy calls to Sony tech support, they suggested doing a factory reset.... and it WORKED.... a factory reset on a brand new item, FML.
I just bought same receiver.. Do you find when streaming Netflix or other services you have to turn volume what seems to be way up 35 to have a reasonable sound level? Can't tell if I'm getting atmos or not with 5.1.2 set-up.
Didn’t work for me and I have a new denon receiver. Followed everything but still can’t hear sound. My other tv worked fine. Is the hdmi cable the problem??
Fantastic video TD. I have a A80J (2021) But this is still valid. Yeah it sucks hitting the display button on the Sony remote doesnt show anything useful and even the Denon info button , when using INTERNAL apps on the TV. Good that the Denon app will still show the info for you. Keep up the good work Channa! You rock. BTW are you still offering Auro3D demo discs to your patrons (if I was to become one)?
Just subscribed! I could use some help with my new A95K. When watching streaming apps from the TV, like Netflix, Prime, Disney+, Bravia Core, is there any way to display current settings? My old Samsung had an info button that could be pressed to see, video resolution and audio information. Anything equivalent on the Sony A95K to see content resolution and audio decoder in use?
I have the same setup, however I'm not getting any sound from my Denon. it worked fine with my old Samsung TV but not with my new Sony Bravia.. I changed the HDMI cable and now sometimes I have sound and sometimes I don't. I have to turn the Receiver on and off several times and hope the sound will work. When it works, it sometimes just stop and I have to once again turn it on and off again.
Hi, I wanna ask, my Denon avr suddenly can't connect with my Sony TV, for the setup etc the Denon still displayed on TV but the audio and control from TV to avr, need advice.. Thanks
Thank you, I configured my sony A80J eARC out as you taught here But I wen went to setup on my Onkyo Tx Sr 605, I couldn't find this sequence of settings. I got no sound on my Onkyo
Yeah I am having the same issue. I can only get regular Arc if I turn off Earc "auto" in the tv settings. I have an Onkyo as well. Did you have any luck?
I have a Sony A80K OLED hooked up to my onkyo receiver… during tv setup, it asked to setup receiver and asked if I hear any sound through the speakers and nothing. The tv’s smart apps will not play any sound either through my onkyo… but when I turn on my ps5 and play a game or use the apps from my ps5, the sound works. I just can’t get sound from tv in its home menu/apps. I tried three different hdmi cables, and all the settings you suggested. The back of my onkyo has a arc out input but it doesn’t say earc, does that matter? I’ve used this receiver with my older Sony xbr led and it worked fine.
So confused. Will i get uncompressed sound from 2.1 hdmi port or does it have to be the earc/arc hdmi port. Not using a soundbar or receiver. Apple tv to one of two 2.1 hdmi ports, will i get earc sound?
Hi Channa, quick question about the new A80K remote. With the limited buttons this year, is it still a good option as your primary “universal” remote to manage multiple devices? I also own the TSR-700 and a LG 4K UHD player. Can the Sony remote manage all of the main controls for volume on the Yamaha, to play on the LG player? Thanks in advance. This might be content that you could consider for a future video.
Just upgraded my 12-year old plasma to the A80K. Love everything about it but the issue I'm having with it and my older Marantz SR5005 with DD+ signals and the Sony's onboard streaming. When I set the A80K to send DD+, all I get through the Marantz is a bunch of digital noise/robot sounds that matches the dialogue. For some reason, the Marantz is not decoding the signal, although it can and had no issues with DD+ and much higher codecs when I was using my Plasma. Switching to PCM stereo solves the issue, but them I'm forced to listen through old surround codes like Dolby Pro logic, etc. My older Marantz bluray and Roku Ultra 2002 are having no issues with advanced sound with the ARC as they are plugged in directly and then up to the Sony. Just wondering if I have something set wrong between the Sony and Marantz for the built in streaming or what? Seems odd that a new TV would provide downgraded sound.
It could be a setting has switched in the TV, but it’s hard to say. Can you use the Roku to stream everything instead of the TV apps? Can you run the signal like this - Roku > Marantz > TV?
@@TechnoDad Hi. Thanks for the reply. If I run the signal that way, I cannot access the 4k image from the Roku so I have settled on Roku>TV>Marantz. I don't get anything more than DD sound, but I can access both 4K and Dolby Vision. I had a Sony tech log into my TV and they agreed that nothing could be done to correct the issue of the garbled DD+. Additionally, when I use my older Marantz bluray player to AVR to TV, I get great sound but reduced image quality. As it sits, I have improved image quality/downgraded sound or the opposite. Time to save up for a new AVR!
Thanks, that was very helpful. I have a OLD Denon 4310ci here that I THINK supports ARC but been fighting with how to properly get everything hooked up and talking to each other. My Vizio sound bar fully supports arc and works but getting a extra hdmi feed into the Denon and getting arc fully working so the TV remote controls everything is a challenge. It's hooked up to a optical output now seeing how it mostly works and most of the time I use the sound bar. Been trying to find a hdmi splitter that fully supports arc and 4khdr and so far they don't support it at all or just don't fully work when they claim to support it. I also have a new 75 Z9K so that might complicate things a bit, beautiful looking TV with HDR though.
Great video, thanks. I'm using a Sony HT-ST5000 soundbar with my A80K but can't get the Dolby Atmos symbol to show when I play okja on Netflix. Any thoughts?
I have the Sony A80j and just got a Sony STR-DH790, setup with 5.1.2 front high and have all the settings set.. But the receiver says either dolby plus or enhanced and my biggest question is why I have to turn receiver volume up to 35 or so to have normal listening level when streaming Netflix or paramount , seems kind of high.. Is that sound level normal? I have done the receiver acoustic testing and all the speakers work fine and earc is turned on with 2.1 cable. Sony doesn't appear to have a phone app for the receiver so not sure how to tell if Atmos is working when the media says it does have atmos.
Has eArc finally caught up to what it was hyped to be? I have a 2020 and 2021 tv, but neither stay connected all of the time nor have perfect lip sync with my eArc soundbar or receiver.
I tried what you did on the avr (Denon avr x4200) and the tv but I get no sound from the TV Audio input. If I turn HDMI control to OFF with ARC engaged this happens with HDMI control ON and no ARC I get sound. Any ideas?
