I appreciate you and Dr. Karen Becker. Not surprised to hear that about the FDA. Pet owners have to advocate for their own pets. Its all about money.

Right now I think the FDA has its hands full with people products. It also doesn’t help that the Supreme Court is trying It’s hardest to cut the legs out from the FDA and other regulatory agencies. I’m a rescue dog owner and I cook for my dog leaving a bit of kibble out for snacks. Will begin adding an egg to her food now though.

@@Oldleftiehere Carrageenan, a common thickener in many human and pet foods, has been banned in the EU, as it is a carcinogen. The FDA still allows it here. The FDA also says that dry kibble is good for cats and dogs. Maybe they need their legs cut out. Regulatory agencies are non-elected officials. They constantly lie to us and make rules that are not in our best interest.

@@Oldleftiehere well sure, however do you think the dog food companies care about what goes in dog food since kibble came out to stores? Mars is a candy bar company and they make the majority of pet food labels. Candy bars aren't health food and neither is kibble, though I understand your efforts. I like the egg idea as well.

They’re not losing credibility, they lost it a long time ago-as have other government agencies. At least more people are coming around to see it though, that’s a good thing. But FDA lost total credibility over dog food after dogs dying from Beneful about 10 years ago.

My senior dog kept sniffling and coughing (the vet had no comment) so I began supplementing with one capsule of Serrapeptase at night. After a couple of weeks, no more drooling, which was excessive) and no more coughing. Initially, I stopped using it, but all the symptoms increased again so I started back with good results. Thank you for this video I have learned so much from you. I have something to share concerning a dog sanctuary in Oregon. Called The Asher House. They are facing a horrific situation there, and the surrounding area of a virus that is still undiagnosed. It comes upon a dog so fast and by the time you realize they just start coughing and by the time you get them to the vet there having trouble breathing, now they have pneumonia and there on oxygen or in a oxygen chamber but it's too late and there dying. It is just heartbreaking for Lee and the canine community in Estacada Oregon. All the vet clinics are full so Lee has just had to order 4 more oxygen chambers as he has just brought 9 more dogs to drop off at the vet. There are literally no symptoms until it's too late, Lee Asher shared. Many prayers are going out to them that they can figure out the cause of this before any more fur babies die.😢 Just heartbreaking

Makes so much sense. I’ve always fed my service dog far less than the bag recommends because he’s not active enough - and have always supplemented by giving him vitamins and minerals with his meals if they’re powdered/liquid or as a snack if they’re in treat form. I did this because it just makes sense, going back to 2017 when I brought him home from his school at 2.5 years old. It surely won’t hurt to give him added nutrients.

I asked my vet about dog food and she said to trust the dog food companies that employ veterinarians to do studies on their food. I learned by researching that dog food companies you think is good are actually owned by companies that have nothing to do with animal food. For example Hills Science Diet is owned by Colgate- Palmolive. I don't trust that company. It's hard to figure out what to feed my dog. Even Purina is owned by Nestle, who was found to put aborted fetal kidney cells in their refrigerated coffee creamers and call it " natural flavoring".

This is Hill's standard response to any inquiry about their food, "More than 200 scientists, engineers and veterinarians with more than 50 advanced degrees in various sciences at Hill’s that contribute to the research and development of efficacious products to meet the needs of your pets." Yet these "experts" push dry food for dogs and cats. Hill's trademarked the term "prescription diet" in 2012. It is a marketing term with no legal standing. The FDA treats all prescription/veterinary diet food as food, not drugs or medicine. Hill's requires vets to issue a prescription in order to sell it. No other reason. Good luck with your dog.

I have a pet sitter and a backup with experience with senior dogs but I lost several nights sleep before I got her stabilized. It was very scary. For now I have her on Iams chicken and rice wet food. I also have to put her meds in 1 tsp of chicken and spinach cat food or she will spit them out. I figure that a small serving won't hurt until I get back. The taurine may even help. I am hoping this is partly reversible since it is nutritional.

Question about the eggs in the food. My dog has been raw fed since this past December after being attacked by another dog causing him to have to have emergency surgery Christmas morning to try and repair the damage done to him by all the toxic medications prescribed to him by 5 different ignorant back woods vets in the area I live. After endless hours of researching results from different tests they ran and nutrition I was able to figure out what was going on and saw he had severe vitamin b deficiencies going on the medications caused from the damage done to his gut. It finally seemed like he was back on track and was getting better until I started feeding him raw eggs in his food to make sure he had enough vitamin e. He started having the leg tremors again, and his skin has been flaking terribly and really red. He is losing hair like crazy, so after hours of more research I learned that egg whites have something in them that binds to biotin and keeps it from being absorbed into the body. I have been giving him sublingual biotin to try and get his level back up to normal again over the past few days, so my question is are whole raw eggs safe to feed, or is it better to give just the yolks? I read that cooking the whites destroys whatever it is that prevents the absorption of biotin, so for humans its not an issue. I tried cooking him scrambled eggs to keep it from happening and he threw them up, so cooking them isn't an option! Is this just an issue for my dog, or will egg whites cause deficiencies in biotin for all dogs eating them regularly?

Interesting that AAFCO claims to know what "balanced and complete" dog food looks like yet they allow companies to us synthetic "vitamin k" (K3) to be used in spite of it being linked to multiple organ failure and cancer. Taurine is synthesized in the canines body IF it is provided the precursors. The problem in a grain free kibble diet is that there has to be a binding agent, typically legumes. Legumes contain phytates which bind to key nutrients and cause our canines to be deficient. Typically, these grain free kibbles are fortified with Taurine which sounds great but they do better to have the precursors and regulate production in their own bodies rather than it being supplemented to them. Also, bear in mind the phytates from the legumes can potentially be binding to the added Taurine thus preventing its already limited bioavailability.

Due to a allergy I've been feeding my dog nulo freestyle grain free dog food for over six years now but lately hes refused to eat it and will go up to two days without touching his food. When he goes outside hes exposed to chicken and cat poop and i figure he's been eating it and due to this he'll have a skin allergy. So i recently learned that grain free dog food can be harmful and i was considering changing his food all together. I live in a rural area and a veterinarian is too expensive since my past vet has retired. I should mention my vet reccomended a grain free dog food this was about 6 or 7 years ago. Hes been loosing a lot of weight and I'm concerned that if this continues I'll have to put him down. I know that nulobis one of the top dog foods and I'm not sure what i should do. My dog is over 11 years old. My question is should i try a different grain free dog food or should switch to something that has grains?

Dr.Jones, we had been feeding our dog Zamzoes Grandma Z senior dog for with chicken and rise for about 5 years then she started getting sick vomiting and diarrhea, I had a feeling it was the dog food, we switched her to taste of the wild with salmon grain free recipe. We put her on just rice and a little chicken broth 2 tablespoons with some cooked chicken. Then after a week I started putting a half a cup of the Tase of the wild slowly increased it to a cup. The diarrhea never stopped. Vomiting did however. The vet put her on antibiotics for a week to kill any parasites. Still diarrhea. Help. She is a great Dane about 140 pounds 6years old. I now have her off all kibble. Rice with two cubes chicken broth, carrots. Sweet potato. Celery, and broccoli still diarrhea. 😢 please help Karla Edgar. Idaho

This is what I do for mine. Gently poach chicken and then debone and boil the bones for a stock. I also add a non flavored electrolyte drink such as pedialyte or store brand. I hope this helps!! • @Weesson
    @Weesson 7 месяцев назад

@2:30 - @2:31 that's a strange statement to make, then wouldn't we see people who do fasting ( less caloric and nutrient intake) would have higher rates of DCM? Caloric restriction ≠ nutritional deficiency. Severe or chronic caloric restriction when they are in starvation mode can cause nutritional deficiency. Long term Poor diets, chronic stress, and poor gut function can lead to deficiency. If it can happen to humans then it definitely can occur with dogs. But I bet most dogs who are feed are always never fed in a caloric restriction, id think its the opposite, especially in developed countries. As people overeat and become overweight, dogs also follow. Btw not discrediting you at all, I love all the information you share, but that was my thought process on that statement.

This is how I feed eggs to my cats. If you know where the eggs came from and how fresh they are, raw can be ok. The carton must say "Pasture Raised" and "certified humane." Anything else is not really regulated. To be safe, I poach the eggs, so the white is cooked but the yolk is slightly runny. All animals are different. Try just a little egg at first and see how your dog responds.

I am just starting my research but taurine is required in cat food but dogs can make it. Problem is they need certain ingredients to make it. They can also get it from some raw meats. My dog will not touch raw. Some ingredients block it. for example if you are giving white fish and peas. The peas block the taurine. I would supplement it.

      Becouse the procesed food is
'dead' food, plus it is made of the lowest quality ingredients, so they MUST add vitamines, minerale, fish oil...,in some food they add taurine also. Human and animal body naturaly contain Taurine. Taurine is found in high concentration in many parts of the body such as the eyes, central nervous system, skeletal muscles and heart cells. Taurine have a significant impact on the cardiovascular sistem. Most animal products contain taurine, like beef and dark meat poultry, shellfish,
      fish and dairy.
      In other words,feed your animal
as you feed your self n your children...just without sugar, salt, fry food and other junk food that humans eat.

Taurine is required for good health in humans, dogs and cats. Pets get most taurine from animal muscle meat. Chicken or turkey dark meat has much more taurine than white meat or beef. Taurine is water soluble. It would be difficult to give too much to a pet. Commercial pet foods contain enough taurine for dogs and cats. My two cats get chicken thigh meat or ground beef, in bone broth every day. I add a mineral supplement, which includes taurine, to their bone broth. They also eat commercial wet food every two or three days.
