One does not just include the Permian and Triassic in one epoch!! The Permian ended 252 million years ago with a Mass Extinction that lasted millions of years. When the dinosaurs emerged long afterward, they did not inherit the earth, they struggled to live in it. The Triassic would last over 40 million years and be characters by reptile diversity, the emergence of mammals... and dinosaurs... and at its end another mass extinction would happen. This time from space. And the dinosaur would inherit the earth.
