The drink you had with the sparkling water(fröccs) you almost pronounced right but the (c)cs at the end is pronounced as ch in english like the world chanel.
My father was born in Hungary. His favourite foods include: meggyleves (sour cherry soup), túrós tésztá or túrós csusza (cottage cheese with noodles and bacon crumble), juhtúrós sztrapacska (sheep cheese with dumplings), palacsinta (Hungarian crêpes - come with variety of fillings), kovászos uborka (fermented cucumbers) and túrós lepény (cottage cheese pie - this is a dessert). The soup helps cool you in the heat of summer. My favourite foods include: uborkasaláta (cucumber salad), gombapörkölt nokedlivel (mushroom stew with dumplings), fagylalt (Hungarian ice cream - similar to Italian gelato) and Dobos torte (sponge cake layered with buttercream and topped with caramelized sugar). The salad and the ice cream are popular eats to help cool you off in the summer. You should also try pálinka (fruit brandy). It's a great aperitif to any meal!
I can imagine that how delicious the Gulyas is. Even i've never been in Budapest but i can see Gulyas ingredients is almost same like many Indonesian food. Nice culture, people, a lot of history in Budapest.

Just a little advise for every tourist who want to come here ti Hungary. Always look for not so popular places because they make disgousting foods in some places. The best choise if you go out to the country side and you go to a "kifőzde" where old laddies Cook these foods because those are The traditional dishes. But these looked also Good expecially The "Csirke paprikás" it was looked really good :) it was nice to see you liked our dishes and make it More popular to show to The world. An other info: ever one knows that Chimney Cake "kürtös kalács" is hungarian but It's not. This is good you missed it. It's tasty and we like it but It's not hungarian so it was a Good decide you chose "Gesztenyepüré" because that was really a hungarian dessert. Next time try "Rigó Jancsi and Dobos torta" these are The best 😍
Actually the name Borsodi (the beer) cames from the county name Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén where i live. Also i recommend you to try the Tokaji wine, trust me it is the treasure of our county! :)

Amikor lemész a piacra és csak veszel egy lángost reggelire. A legjobb érzés a világon..... When you go down to the market and buy a lángos for breakfast. The best feeling in the world......
I like how respectfull you guys are when trying something new and maybe a little out of your comfortzone. Nice video. I had some of the best foods while visiting Hungary. Gulyás is a dish that many people in Hungary makes a little different. Be sure to try it at different places.
We often eat gesztenye püré (chestnut purée) on the New Year’s Eve, and we fill our bejgli (Christmas roll) with it’s well, at least in my family. So it’s really a winter dessert for me too. If you want to recreate the stew or the gulyás, use lot of onions, fry it a bit then put the meat (pork or beef) on it. When it’s fried a bit, add salt and pepper and pull off the pot from fire when adding paprika otherwise the paprika can burn really fast. Add water, if you make stew, as much as it is covering the meat; if it’s gulyas then double. Bring it to boil once and then cook it slowly on low fire. If it’s gulyas add vegetables when the meat is almost ready (check the softness) vegetables we use: carrot, potato, white carrot ( I’m not sure about the English name, probably turnip, it’s the root of the parsley), additionally celery and kohlrabi. Bon Apetite! 😊 Hopefully you visit again and try more food 😊
Lángos, is more like “langosh” in english, and you should try it with mashed garlic as well. It is a salty meat, not ment to be sweet. The püré is well thought, there is usually rum in it, this was the christmas feeling. :) The gulyás looked a little disappointing for me, it is usually made with potatos or bean as well, but you cannot freeze it in this way, so restaurants usually leave them out. And alse there are much better things to eat with other than bread, eg. cheese scones. The chili thing was paprika as well, with salt, so carefully. It is called Strong Steven, if you translate the most famous product’s name. :)
"Long-go-shhh," or, more accurately, "Lahng-gauche" Put all three together. Always emphasize the 1st syllable, for any and all Hungarian words, names, etc - unless it is a word borrowed from another language, or something different by convention. AND You should always at least TRY to pronounce things correctly, using the pronunciation of the language(s) of any countries you're in. Also, you completely missed a great deal of the best Hungarian food.
oh bor also means wine...borpince is wine cellar...i help my friends in western hungary on a vineyard...so thats how i know so much about hungary...its a great country with great people.
The cheese used on lángos is called Trappista, it is ripened for a very short time and rather neutral in taste. Abroad you can use young Gouda as a substitute.
We visited a retro cafe/restaurant like that in Gdansk, Poland! Such a cool atmosphere - and that Chestnut desert looks like someone took a mincemeat machine to cooked chestnuts. Who says you can't get winter deserts in the summer? ;D

Those curly little "dumpling" things are called spetzle (SCHPETZ-lay) in Austria. It's made from potatoes. Lots of Hungarian dishes are shared with Austria since the two countries were part of the same empire for along time. Another dish my Austrian mother used to make was what she called Szegadiner Goulash. It is to die for. That part of the world is likely to put you in a food coma. Lots of the influences are in fact Turkish/Ottoman - like the famous thin crust that is the traditional type used for apple strudel.
In germany spätzle are long strings. The small lump variant is called knöpfle (meaning small buttons). I wish I would remember the hungarian word. I think it is nockedli. That resembles the germanic word nockerl.
It all looks so good. I grew up eating Hungarian food...I miss my Nagymama's cooking. Funny that Journey Don't stop Believing is playing when your eating the Goulash.
When I was 4-5 I used to eat a LOT of lángos. Today I barely ever eat it, I've had enough for a lifetime :D 4:15 Gesztenyepüré is supposed to have rum in it, I think that's what you're tasting. 5:35 very far off but that's all right. It's like "fruh-ch" (ch as in chin) The "ch" is long, that's a double "cs" in frö *ccs* Fun fact: there are dozens of different types of fröccs. Literally. They all have their own names as well, just to make it confusing and near impossible to learn. Most well-known are kisfröccs (small fröccs), nagyfröccs (big fröccs), hosszú lépés (long leap). Then there is one which I didn't even know exists: magyar-angol ("Hungary - England", referring to a famous football match in 1953 where Hungary beat England 6 - 3. The ratio of wine and water is 6:3, 6 dl wine and 3 dl water) hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fr%C3%B6ccs#Fr%C3%B6ccs_vari%C3%A1ci%C3%B3k 6:14 close to perfect 6:55 I think those are "csipetke" which is basically flour and eggs and maybe some salt.
Can you really eat to much langos Henrik? 😉 Thanks for all the tips on the froccs, we've been having them from time to time back in Canada. They are so good - Anna

Budapest looks so wonderful and the food seems to be great, I’ve had goulash before but you have to go to the source. I’d love to go and the temperature is something I’m used to living in South Texas ( it gets 41°c in August) I’m not kidding. I bet Budapest is something to see during Christmas.

Fun fact: there are dozens of different types of fröccs. The ratio of wine and water is 6:3, 6 dl wine and 3 dl water)

6:14 close to perfect
6:55 I think those are "csipetke" which is basically flour and eggs and maybe some salt.
Can you really eat to much langos Henrik? 😉 Thanks for all the tips on the froccs, we've been having them from time to time back in Canada. They are so good - Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers when I was a kid I thought you couldn't. Now I just think they are gross :D Nice, share the fröccs in Canada! Btw my uncle lives there, he used to be honorary consul in Vancouver.
You need to try their hot paprika and smokey paprika. Hungarian soil is the best for paprika! 🌷
Budapest looks so wonderful and the food seems to be great, I’ve had goulash before but you have to go to the source. I’d love to go and the temperature is something I’m used to living in South Texas ( it gets 41°c in August) I’m not kidding. I bet Budapest is something to see during Christmas.
We would love to see the city during Christmas as well 🤗- Anna
My family is Hungarian and my favorited food from the couture is softewhoos.
Jó étvágyat ♥️
If you go to Hungary, Rántott hús (I dont know it in English) is something is really reliable
Thank God i am eating Hungarian today here in Scotland ! Or else i would be hungry , very hungry from watching this video ! :D :D :D EDIT : You did have some Wine and / or Palinka ! I can tell, yes. :D
haha.. we'd like to be having that today as well. We may have had some wine yes 😄 - Anna
It's "fröccs" (frotsch), a word similiar to the english word splash, so that's the whitewine-spritzer for the summer chills! 😉
Thanks for the tip. We'll never get it right unless we spend more time there. All we know is we love that drink! 😃- Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers Try the red-wine w coke I mean coca-cola, that's also a traditional way of drinking wine in the summertimes! Least next time folx, You guys're always welcome here!!! 👽 (Oh yeah, don't 4get the Grey Aliens & the Huns who aren't the freaking magyars! 😉)
Hello from Hungary
Guys your intro is so clear and succinct. We definitely need to take a page out of your book... If you don't mind me asking, what do you both do for work? Coming out to Aus for the summer? You'll be getting 35 degrees daily!
Thanks guys! Take all the pages you want. We did a Q&A on the whole work thing not too long ago. We explain all of that. We'd love to get out to AUS but it's not on the travel radar atm unfortunately. :S - Trevor
35C hot? you should have gone to some plage bro... BTW whoever told you that "gesztenyepűré" is a winter food was a liar... we have it across all year
as for "fröccs" (frotsch)... can be done using any kind of wine but in the hot summer it is made of rose wine so it is called "rozé fröccs"
Budapest is amazing !!!!
It just might be our favourite city 😃 - Trevor
It is a county Borsodi and i would do anything for one of those beer lol i miss that !!!!

Az első amit kóstoltak az egyik kedvencem a lángos
It was not chili, it's called Erős Pista, made from hungarian paprika. ;-)
Ugyanaz.
Describe it like spätzle. Which is a small dumpling.
I have family from Hungary and haven't been back since 98
