    I'm starting my second month of using the Hydrow Wave. I've only missed a couple of days over the period of time. I find the rower and all the videos incredibly engaging. Unlike most people that are using the rower, I'm going to admit that I hate to exercise. However, the entire Hydrow experience is phenomenal. I have not felt better about my health in years. The exercising has also lead me to eat better. The rower itself is pretty simple, get on it and row. The videos and the Hydrow athletes are top notch. They blend a mix of rowing with stories, funny stories, very engaging. Also, Hydrow has tons of content - I have yet to watch a repeat video - the amount of videos is astounding.

    Nice review, I like the idea that they are going for a more budget friendly option...but that arrogance for "buy our subscription or else we don't want you as a customer." Concept2 is still the king...

    • @jamestonbellajo
      @jamestonbellajo 2 года назад +3

      I surprisingly didn’t see it as arrogance, but I can agree with that. I do appreciate the honesty though since a lot of people considering it may not be as informed so being told by the actual company that the membership is pretty critical is nice to know upfront.

    • @balcerzaq
      @balcerzaq 2 года назад +2

      I dont see the arrogance. Especially if they are offering half priced app for other rowing machine users. I use it with my C2 and its a win win situation.

      And the best part is, if Hydrow were to go out of business so subscription goes away or they decide their subscription software can't be made compatible with other hardware, congratulations you have a $1500+ paper weight.

    My honest belief is if a company is confident in what it is producing then it will always allow the customer to decide if they want a subscription or not. I DO like this new machine and think this is a great way of allowing people to try out the smart rower Without losing a ton of money. My concept2 is wonderful at helping me get loose and limber in the morning so I definitely recommend a rower.

  • @balcerzaq

    22 inch screen vs 16 inch screen. I think Hydrow with superb training sessions deserve a bigger screen. So I connected 55 inch tv to my ipad and use it with my Concept 2 for half the price of subscription. And those coaches are doing fantastic job!

  • @outdoors2476

    Loved the hacks, loved the review. Just picked up a used C2...very happy with it so far. I am SOOO against subscription based models for exercise equipment (ie bow flex bike). They are cool, but I'd rather spend that fee on a broader subscription like studiosweat.

    "trying to make money" c2 offers similar quality without focusing so much on profit margins, many companies should take c2s approach. Nicest people ever

    If you're on the fence... The classes have kept my motivation going strong over the year since I've had my Hydrow. In hindsight, I would probably still have gotten it. The only real thing to consider is if I would have gotten the wave or not. Regardless, I think I would have lost motivation along the way with a rower like a C2.

    Nice review, personally my gym is in a non climate controlled building and here in Iowa winter is cold and summers get hot and humid. For me the concept 2 still seems like the better option. However if I wanted one for inside the house this would be a more interesting option.

    Aviron has the most ways to workout which is great for us because I like gamification but my husband likes to stream Netflix while he rows. But Aviron has scenic rows, instructor content, competitions, and since it has RUclips, literally everything on there too. Glad I didn't wait for the Peloton row. The Wave is nice but only has one or two ways to work out.

    I hope you do a review of the Fray Fitness rack and functional trainer combo! 2600 bucks for the whole thing. The Ares is like 2000 by itself! Without the rack! And most functional trainers are 2000 by themselves! It seems too good to be true. Maybe a comparative "Rack with built in functional trainer" video is in the works?

    Great video! I was really going to go for the larger rower. The larger screen was important to me. But I couldn’t get over being nervous about the size of the regular Hydro. I opted for the Wave in the end. So I’ll sacrifice the larger screen but get a lighter and more mobile version. I wonder if there is a way to cast or stream the screen to a tv. Thoughts? Best!!!

    The biggest motivation for me is progress, I manually track my metrics from my BikeErg workouts and through my Apple Watch. Every session I compare how I did compared to the previous one. If you have the money then it's up to you to get the subscription, but I'm confident that the main reason that subscriptions like these exist is because it's the best way for the company to make money, achieving your fitness goals is secondary if not tertiary to them. I've considered getting the Concept 2 rower but space-wise it doesn't make sense and I don't like doing lengthy cardio where my hands are occupied all the time and I can't manipulate my audiobook playback or check some information online if I want to. It's even bulkier and way more expensive but if I were to get another piece of cardio equipment it'd be a TrueForm runner.

  • @Knitspin

    "That's a thing that you can do with a Concept 2 with a PM5 monitor" - shows a knock off Concept 2 without a PM5. As an aside, I am always amused (and never surprised) that the bulk of the rowers coaching the workouts on the water are in fact using Concept 2 oars.

    Just buy a Concept 2. Its just the best piece of cardio kit at any price. Its so robust. Its the gold standard. If you want apps just fit an ipad to a concept 2 and use a 3rd party app. PELETON are over priced. They then charge a rip off subscriptions. Concept 2 fair price free apps challenges and no rip off subscriptions. Stop believing the marketing.

    I hope and pray the reviews are accurate for quality, which I fully expect they will be. However, be aware/advised, as a recent cash purchaser that took advantage of the Black Friday sale, was disappointed to learn the day after and a few days after, they added over $300+ in extra equipment for the same purchase. This is great for those who procrastinated, but for me; customer service and sales should have made one aware. I guess I remember the old days of brick and mortar store integrity.
    It squarely falls on me and I look forward to the workouts and use [and hopefully weight-loss and conditioning] and I hope it gives me years of good service as I am now concerned Customer Service is just a 'refusal' department...I'll update on the equipment but honestly believe it will be great! What's a few pieces of equipment anyway?

    Coop: one thing you did not cover is the ability to do the kind of workouts that I would bet a large percentage of your viewers do. I think a lot of us, even if we are attracted to the "on the water rows" spend a lot of time on a rower doing intervals. And often doing intervals where we jump off and do ab work or lifting in between intervals. Even if we are doing a longer row, we often break it into intervals. How does that work on the hydrow? Can you set up intervals in the "just row" mode, with or without a subscrption? All I ever see looks like stead state.

    The subscription is what’s gonna be the deciding factor for me. Being forced to have a subscription to fully use the rower is not conducive to my situation. I already have a Norditrack treadmill with paid subscription and if I wanted to add their bike, I don’t get charged any extra for the same subscription. One subscription that can work for all their gear would be worth it but for just one item really blows. Oh, the gym hack should be added at the end of the video or as a separate video after the review. Killed the flow for me

    Still looks (and I imagine feels) cheap. So much plastic. And you can hype it all you want.... magnetic resistance is magnetic resistance. A magnet is a magnet. I doubt hydrow's magnets are more... magnet-y than other magnets.
    I don't have a rower - yet - but I'm still not persuaded off eventually buying the concept 2. Metal... chains.... fan resistance..... just seems like a tank. Oh.... and it's cheaper than these TVs that happen to have sliding seats attached to them, haha. I already have a tv in my garage... I don't need one attached to the equipment. Flip on RUclips on any TV and type in "rowing class" if you honestly think you "need" someone to tell you what to do and keep you motivated (IMO if you need another random person to keep you motivated I wonder how long you'll actually.... stay motivated... but to each their own). There's loads of rowing videos on RUclips. Personally whenever I do gross cardio stuff I just turn on hulu and try to turn my brain off from the cardio I'm doing and focus solely on the show. And my screen is 55".... not 16 or 22. Willing to bet hydrow is like Peloton too and you have to get a bullshit monthly subscription to truly use the device at full potential. If you have to make a monthly payment to use an item you bought to its fullest..... why not just get a gym membership? Whole point of home gym is to ditch the BS monthly payment. At least it is for me. That and to avoid annoying people.
