I honestly appreciate the fact that the Mon Mothma plot doesn't have a lot of movement and progress. It shows the reality of her world, where every decision has to be meticulously planned and every possible consequence weighed before any action should be taken. The absolute *worst* thing she can do is make a rash decision, so she has to weigh out every option in detail before hand to avoid detection. it's not really a spoiler to say that her plot does move in the final episode of the season, and you'll see how all her thinking and planning play out (and it's brilliant writing, if you ask me).

little detail I find REALLY incredible and proof of the attention to detail that went into Andor:
at the end, when Andor calls to give Maarva a message, he says "she'd be proud of me". The very next thing he sees is the sunset and the sea. He most likely spent the rest of the night on Niamos with regrets of not getting back sooner, not being able to prove his mother that he understood what was her sentiment about the rebellion.
In Rogue One, Jyn is in a similar situation, in the very brief moment she saw her father before his passing she couldn't really tell him that she had her mind changed about the rebellion as well. When Cassian and Jyn are on the beach, watching the nuclear sunset, Cassian remebers how he was feeling when he knew that his mother passed away, looking at the sunset over the sea that day.
Only thing he says? "Your father would have been proud of you Jyn"
I find that reference so well integrated with Rogue One, not "in your face" but such an emotional call back

Mon Mothma’s storyline isn’t about speed of motion. It’s about the dangers of taking small but precarious steps while in the belly of the beast. And it’s about the grave decision she must make, to place herself and her family in even more peril.
Her struggle with what to do next is about the consequences of choice and the price one is willing to pay for a necessary victory.
We know about Luthen but what will she sacrifice for a better tomorrow?
(May not be compelling for some but I found it riveting, even knowing her fate as leader of the Rebel Alliance.)

What aggravates me is the fact that there were supposed to be 5 seasons of Andor, with each season being one of the five years prior to "Rogue One." I really, truly wish we had that coming. Because this show is like Star Wars' version of Game of Thrones, with all the subtext and deep storytelling. This show had so much potential to really save Star Wars, and Lucasfilm basically just said: "Nope!" and ordered Gilroy to take it down to two seasons. That sucks!

I love your reactions. Jen and you complete yourselves totally and as much as your views on what you react to sometime diverge from what I think, yours feel quite honest with good explanations and not going for the views only. Also, you crack me up when you throw each other silly puns and dad jokes, makes me feel like I might be normal after all ahahah
As for Andor, I really like how they show the building of the rebellion and how at this moment of the timeline, it is different groups with different ways to cope with the Empire's oppression. Too slow for him (the frog in the pot with the temperature rising slowly), the Empire will imprison everyone without an effort so he decided to kick the apple tree. From individual Rebel factions that go from mercenaries for the monayy to resistants willing to strike locally their opressor, Skarsgard seems to act to regroup everyone under one "flag". Hence his dealings with organized groups like Saw Guerrera ready for war and elites like Mon Mothma trying to help without getting dirty and expecting a nonviolent outcome. Apes together, strong.
Like you say, this series is something else in term of mood and storytelling, but the more you begin to think about it, the more you like it how it shows what was the life and the impact of the Empire on people, which had to be bad if it happened to create the rebellion movement leading to SW Episode 4.
Continue your great work and being two great human beings (from what I can see online that is ahah)

  • @deanthemachine8879

I feel that Mon Mothma’s plot thread is about one of those somewhat passive rebels/revolutionaries who think they can do the *right* thing within an immoral system without compromising their adherence to strict personal moral code or getting their hands truly dirty. She has that confrontation with Luthen in his shop after Aldhani that gets to the heart of this. Now she’s weighing out what sacrifices she’s willing to make to help the Rebellion. Cassian parallels that by avoiding sacrifice by thinking he can just nip around the edges of the Empire until Luthen, the Raid on Aldhani, and his experience in the Narkina 5 prison teaches him otherwise. To change this system, you have to be willing to sacrifice *EVERYTHING* to succeed. I think Season 2 (which is well underway) will deal with how far into the darkness do you let yourself fall; sort of an ethical conflict between the philosophies of Mon Mothma/Jedi-side and Luthen/Saw Guerra-side within the Rebellion as well as building the ALLIANCE side of the Rebel Alliance

    • @ISavant
      @ISavant Год назад

i don't think it's fair to say mon mothma's actions are passive. up until aldhani she's a large part of financing the rebellion, and she's putting herself and her family's lives on the line to do so as a senator. hell even as not a senator the empire would probably kill her if they knew what she was doing but as a senator they'd probably make a horrible example of her. she's not shooting blasters or waving a lightsaber but she's in just as much danger.

Love Luthen he is such enigmatic character , I heard him described as Star Wars version of Nick Fury and after he escapes from the Cantwell cruiser ( Named after Ian Cantwell the artist who designed it for the original 1977 Star Wars but whose design was rejected and eventually used here ) I can see why he was called that . They wrote this from the beginning with 2 seasons in mind (the second one ending right before Rogue One) so YES, not every story will be fully closed at the end of this season. The second season was also green-lit before the first one even aired
Also I don't consider it a spoiler but it is not obvious to people who haven't kept track of all smaller characters: Melshi, the one that stayed together with Andor till the end after the Prison-Break, is also in Rogue One and one of the characters in Command of Squad "Rogue One" during the Battle of Scarif. It is also at least implied that Andor and Melshi had a deep bond in Rogue One already which even only after season 1 of Andor we can already understand quite well
Lastly, as you now have watched Rebels you must know that Mon Mothma WILL NOT do anything radical in the first season of Andor as we already know that she will only speak openly against Palpatine in 2-3 BBY (Season 1 plays during 5 BBY) and then leave the Senate to head up the Rebel Alliance (with which the Ghost-Crew from Rebels will help)

If Disney does do a season 2 of Andor it would be showing how Andor's Team formed to where season 2 would end on Andor seeing the Female Lead Character of The Rouge One Film for the first time from Andor's point of view/Camera Angle 🤔

Having Andy’s character’s Achilles heel be that he simply can’t swim is still tragic to me lol. I can’t swim either (I’ve tried in my adult years, panic induces as soon as I can’t touch the bottom and I sink), so that one hit home.

Just an FYI, I read an article the other day concerning Andor Season 2, and according to the article, Andy Serkis has agreed to return for season 2 to reprise his role as Kino Loy. I don't know how true this is or if it's just speculation, but according to the article, he is definitely coming back next season.

What this show does work the Empire side of things.. I’ll compare it to The Walking Dead where att some point among the way the zombies just became background fodder and no real threat. That was damaging and TWD is not the only franchise to suffer that same issue. Star Wars kinda set the precedent of making the danger of the Empire NOT feel dangerous.. and THIS SHOW has turned that in its head!! We see just how suffocating the Empire is, their influence penetrating every aspect of peoples lives. They are a constant overwhelming danger and the writers of this show have done a masterful job giving the Empire a dangerous bite to go along with the loud bark! Finally!
