The combat leaves quite a bit to be desired but even as a newcomer to SAO, I'm actually enjoying it so far. It's just a nice charming world that feels like a poor mans FF14 without having to connect to the internet and constantly re buy the game.
I feel like I would like SAO games better if instead of having to play Kirito I could create my own character and befriend/romance the characters of the original. That's really the big thing making me not want to pick it up since it's on sale right now
TheFlyingAdamGrayson me too, it will be better a different scenario, but fatal bullet has, they said your own character has a story not kirito anymore,
Franklin Clinton ps store said it's 2-4 players..does it actually have online play with others? ... yeah I saw star ocean am a big fan of series I'll probably get it next
I'm looking to pick up a new Vita title at the end of the year, and as such SAO is on my radar. For someone who has watched the series but never played any of the SAO games, would you recommend this title or perhaps one of the others more? Or perhaps a completely different title when it comes to meaty titles that does it better?
Fun review friend told me about the channel subbed immediately as good independent reviews are far far too rare (I myself only trust ACG and worth a buy and I am not a fan of Mack (worth a buy) but he is independent. Far too many IGN's these days where every game get's a 8/10. Looks like I have a huge back catalog to check out over the next few months. Thanks again :)
looks okay, more solid than the last two. although there's a few things that I wish would happen with the game. one: work with a new engine two: stop using those visual novel cut scenes. three: ditch the kirito story line and make a new one with a customizable character with some canon side characters and set it back in the life or death sao.
Hey Luis? How would you rate the character development as compared to the anime? We're used to a kind of manic desperation and drama overplay, so the few screens that showed such normal conversation worried me. Do they keep the emotional angst or is it tuned down?
hey Luis I actually have a question, does the combat works like rehollow fragment? I'm referring specifically to the auto attack, in Rehollow fragment the character attacks automatically and you just have to time the square button. So in this game is that a thing or you have to manually press square for every light attack?
I rented the bullet one at is new on Gamefly and it's really really really good shit. Looks like nothing of this or the other one. Wonder if I should try these bc the new one is so dope I hit keep. 47 bucks
ik this game is based around a lot of story mode, but is there any way that i would be able to use to play with friends? or is it all focused around story ? if u can answer thax and have a great day.
Luis Alamilla is it worth getting then because my friend and I want to play it because we love Sao but the price is kinda pricey and idk if multiplayer is really that good. thx for the reply tho
When Hollow Fragment was released, the translation was particularly bad on the Vita. That isn't the case this time around with the Vita and PS4 versions releasing simultaneously, right?
Say, I'm going to be buying this game today. The reason being is that my friends yesterday on Facebook told me that the character customization is good, That other characters will notice me as my created oc. Plus, I want to play this after having some experience with Sao on my iPhone (the new game, Not memory defragmentation) the one that everyone is saying is dead now. Also question, It's a stupid question. But....can I date any of the girls in this game? I ask that because Leafa is my favorite character in the series.
2 minutes of a nonmotion cutscene I can deal with. Some take 15 minutes or more. I do love the gameplay. It really does remind me of playing an MMO and when you get that hard to get gear its very accomplishing. I did accidentally sell a hard to find sword. :(
nahhhh lost song had better animations Lmao they couldn't keep the way the game looked like lost song, but fix the bugs with clothes when doing emotes and certain actions then BOOM perfect look
Holy fuck those costume designs are actually fucking laughable Like, the SAO anime has some top notch costume design, but who the fuck did the costume designs for this game! They need too be fired!
+Zak Think you're reaching for complaints when your main complaint of the game is the design of the default costumes that are interchangeable. Any of the other complaints about gameplay I'd agree with mostly.
I haven't played the game, could be amazing for all I know, all I can see is a fucking stupid design choice with that underbra thing at 3:36, like a human thought that'd be a good thing to draw...
that's how the costumes are in the anime. However, once you get your party members skills to a specific level, you can ask them change into a different gear which will be more dps/utility/def oriented. I didn't have it equipped on all party members yet but I managed to bring one character offensive trait to 300 and asked her to change into dps gear. Which is pretty neat, if you ask me. If it's the general style of fashion that puts you off, well...it's anime and it's something you call fanservice. That's what they do in anime... Makes you ask question like "why are you wearing ANYTHING at all?!", I get it, but it's the general art style of the game..
AwesomeWinter no, fan service is not an answer for bad costume design, Kill La Kill is a show with tons of fan service what has some of the best costume design in anime, that is because the absurd nature of the costumes worked for the absurd nature of the show, SAO isn't a wacky show, so girls with their tits out everywhere doesn't really make much sense. SAO is a series that has pretty much always had pretty consistent quality character and costume designs, you can just tell these where probably drawn by a different person.
Right. Don't mention the combat or ssc elements. Don't mention the complicated weapon trees or hidden skill trees. Don't mention the blacksmithing. Don't mention the multiplayer or legendary weapon system. Don't mention its rpg elements. Infact, don't mention anything that people who actually play this game really enjoy the game for. I guess I wouldn't recommend this game either if I only played the first couple of hours of it.
Like I said, gameplay is very familiar to the previous game Hollow Fragment. Gameplay shown in the review was limited to the first 4 hours because people don't like spoilers.
Actually no the gameplay is nothing like the previous game. In HF sword arts were locked animations where you had to create a custom pre determined combo chain. In this game it is free form and the new combo system lets you be more creative than the previous titles. If anything its more like Lost Song. Also I don't see how talking about the skill tree, how many weapons there are, or the blacksmithing or even event fragments spoil anything about the game. Like I said everyone I know who plays and streams this game, and talks in those streams enjoy this game mainly for the new combat features and skill tree/event fragments and multiplayer end game bosses, but you mentioned none of that and then even said you wouldn't recommend this game. You don't even have a full grasp of 20% of this game to make a recommendation on it.
You seem to know a lot about this game. May I ask you what plataform do you have it for? It is because I got Lost Song for the ps vita last Christmas and I really loved that game!!!! :3 I even plat it because I enjoyed so much the overall experience. So I would like to know if this one is worth it. Hope you could answer me, I am a big fan of SAO and I really enjoy this kind of things!!! :D Thanks. :P
Being a fan of the anime, I bought this game on impulse. Total waste of money. It's most the gindy, padded, boring mediocre 'RPG' I ever played. The battles against continually spawning monsters are boring and lack any sense of impact. You will spend hundreds of hours just running from bright but bland one instanced area to the next listing to the same canned lines from your AI party over and over. The 'flirting' system is your typical awkward and unsatisfying JPRG trash. There's also a serious lack of variety in the armours, outfits and weapons and the inventory/level up system is too complicated and ultimately meaningless. As for the story its the typical Kirito harem squad rubbish.
I agree played this and the last one and tbh if i wasn't a sword art online fan i would of gave it a miss and wish I had waste of dam money with so many better games out there. It was a struggle to finish as it was boring as hell however i do know people enjoy it and they have a right to but unless the next sword art online game changes dramatically i will be giving it a miss
As a fan of the anime you just saved me $50, I'm desperately looking for my first real mmorpg with characters and story I know I'll like. Seems even SAO can't fit my bill. Sad.
The combat leaves quite a bit to be desired but even as a newcomer to SAO, I'm actually enjoying it so far. It's just a nice charming world that feels like a poor mans FF14 without having to connect to the internet and constantly re buy the game.
+wolfflow I can agree with that especially if this is your first SAO game, just wish it didn't get to repetitive with its core gameplay so quickly.
Luis Alamilla Changing weapons helps..
Your first buy is actually the game, after that you pay the service monthly
wolfflow do u play it on ps4
FF14 sucked though 😐
0:09 asuna is so smart (on the right)
Waifu please, you're embarrassing me on my review!
lol AI in games never gets old
I feel like I would like SAO games better if instead of having to play Kirito I could create my own character and befriend/romance the characters of the original. That's really the big thing making me not want to pick it up since it's on sale right now
You can create your own character but it gets treated as Kirito in cutscenes.
Luis Alamilla that is really disappointing.
TheFlyingAdamGrayson even though i really love kirito; i do agree. Creating your own character would be great and have him not be shown as kirito.
TheFlyingAdamGrayson me too, it will be better a different scenario, but fatal bullet has, they said your own character has a story not kirito anymore,
0:09 Didn't think I'd see Asuna being an idiot?
haha xD
i bought this game yesterday at game stop
Franklin Clinton just bought on ps store and is downloading... how did you like it..worth it?
GREATEST EVER yes but Star Ocean is better
Franklin Clinton ps store said it's 2-4 players..does it actually have online play with others? ... yeah I saw star ocean am a big fan of series I'll probably get it next
I'm looking to pick up a new Vita title at the end of the year, and as such SAO is on my radar.
For someone who has watched the series but never played any of the SAO games, would you recommend this title or perhaps one of the others more?
Or perhaps a completely different title when it comes to meaty titles that does it better?
I would but not on Vita, the FPS for this specific game on Vita is terrible.
Welcome to the channel! And big thanks to your friend for spreading the word ^^
I'm buying it since I bought literally Hollow fragment on PS Vita and PS4 along with Lost Song LOL
Hope you have fun!
lol I just bought it bc I love SAO but stands out it's better as expected. Honestly I like it more than xenoblate chronicles.
looks okay, more solid than the last two. although there's a few things that I wish would happen with the game.
one: work with a new engine
two: stop using those visual novel cut scenes.
three: ditch the kirito story line and make a new one with a customizable character with some canon side characters and set it back in the life or death sao.
Technically you can use a custom character when you create an avatar but yeah the game still treats you as Kirito.
JadeEpicP Gaming that would be perfect
jumping moose and please let us change the difficult it's so fucking easy
Hey Luis? How would you rate the character development as compared to the anime? We're used to a kind of manic desperation and drama overplay, so the few screens that showed such normal conversation worried me. Do they keep the emotional angst or is it tuned down?
How is the levelling in this game? Does it feel like a MMO?
More like an rpg
@@Luisgvn I am literally lvl 50 and I just got into zone 3, leveling up with multiplayer is so easy
hey Luis I actually have a question, does the combat works like rehollow fragment? I'm referring specifically to the auto attack, in Rehollow fragment the character attacks automatically and you just have to time the square button. So in this game is that a thing or you have to manually press square for every light attack?
Is the anime good? I never watched it.
EDIT: Also, doesn't Hyrule Warriors Legends have a better framerate on the New 3DS when the 3D is off?
+Jumpmon Many either love it or hate it. I enjoyed it and like many thought the first arc was the best arc.
Jumpmon imo i love it. But oh well.
i personally enjoy it but apparently compared to other animes its trash???????? im not an anime fan so i wouldn't know
I rented the bullet one at is new on Gamefly and it's really really really good shit. Looks like nothing of this or the other one. Wonder if I should try these bc the new one is so dope I hit keep. 47 bucks
There's a new one out this coming week too!
So is this already out on ps4?
Yup
Luis Alamilla Thanks for the reply. All the other SAO games kinda sucked so I'm a little I'm doubt about this one 😂
Happy to help!
This is coming out to PC on the 17th with all the DLC and patches for $50. Would it be worth it then, since you said to wait for a price drop?
+vinny9500 If you're an SAO fan yeah
okay i need to know why is the game and lost song on the playstore still 60 bucks when i have a friend who got this game for 10 bucks at gamestop
Good Review!
I would definitely get this game on a sale. I am a big of SAO guy! This game made some nice smooth improvements from the past SAO games.
Thanks and agreed! Doubt you'd have to wait for it go on sale for long either, they tend to go on sale rather quickly :)
ik this game is based around a lot of story mode, but is there any way that i would be able to use to play with friends? or is it all focused around story ? if u can answer thax and have a great day.
i would like this to be more like actual mmo
Same
There's a multiplayer mode
Luis Alamilla is it worth getting then because my friend and I want to play it because we love Sao but the price is kinda pricey and idk if multiplayer is really that good. thx for the reply tho
+Luminous CoD I'd still say wait for a sale first.
I think I'll try giving this one a shot. I *kinda* enjoyed the previous so let's hope this one exceeds that *kinda liked* mindset
Hopefully you enjoy it! :D
When Hollow Fragment was released, the translation was particularly bad on the Vita.
That isn't the case this time around with the Vita and PS4 versions releasing simultaneously, right?
+SideSpoon Gaming Didn't look up the translation sources for HF to compare to this new title
SideSpoon Gaming as far as i see people videos on youtube i never saw that infamous penetration word... so i think it is good lol.
I really liked the game .
Got the platnum trophy today.
Damn, great job! :)
How much would be a reasonable price drop?
$40 or lower.
Luis Alamilla I literally just bought this for $5 digital on amazon..
+Hobo Knife I think k you mean re: hollow fragment not realization
Luis Alamilla oh snap just realized that. Haha. Good catch, thx! xD
+Hobo Knife 😂👍
am i the only want an alternative version of the anime for the game???
not to chose sides but i like the fact yuuki lives 😂
I'm finna buy a PS4 just to play these SAO games fosho
Join us.......
I actually regret my decision of getting an Xbox One mostly because of this game, and other anime related games.
@@Comfy_Luna You should have bought a Ps4 for Persona 5, well, I am sure that game didn't exist yet
PLEASE SEND A LINK TO THE CROSSING FIELD MIX IM BEGGING YOU
Let me see if I can find it, pretty old video
is it on vita? i just finished lost song lol
well then i saw the whole vid...looks like yes lmao
haha

I believe you can date any of the girls.
I really wish they would make an sao game as good as guild wars 2 or wow for example.
AimlessCinderKnight you’re in luck Alicization Lycorsis is a thing now
Why do all sao games feel so shallow in terms of combat?
Thx for the review, I'll catch up with the series by playing re:hollow fragment and lost song, while waiting for the price drop on this game.
Happy to help, you can get the older games for pretty cheap now too! :)
Im enjoying it, but I will say the nonmotion cutscenes are way too long. if it doesnt have anything to do with the main story, i just skip it.
+Willis Allen Jr If there humours I tend to enjoy them, but can agree some overstay their welcome.
2 minutes of a nonmotion cutscene I can deal with. Some take 15 minutes or more. I do love the gameplay. It really does remind me of playing an MMO and when you get that hard to get gear its very accomplishing. I did accidentally sell a hard to find sword. :(
So no gun gale online?
+Uni Planeptune Sister Know what it is but never er played it
Well I guess since the second season is based on guns......Its basically either third person shooter or first
+Uni Planeptune Sister third person would fit better
It's coming. Search "Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet". Amazon already has preorders up.
does any1 think its worth 20 bucks i loved the anime, thought id check this out
For $20 I'd say so
Like I said I'm not really into anime but I don't have much against it so please don't hurt me Luis!!!!!
Lol, no worries.
NO ONE IS COMPLANING ABOUT THE DIFFICULT/TEDIOUS BOSSES
Repetitive game play falls into bosses as well.
i can understand your frustration if the bosses are tedious but if they are difficult, then good for the game, why is that a negative??????????
Did this guy just say cut scenes from 5-15min ...
Wessam Hamadneh P5: Hold my Joker
nahhhh lost song had better animations Lmao
they couldn't keep the way the game looked like lost song, but fix the bugs with clothes when doing emotes and certain actions then BOOM perfect look
i think lost song is more better graphics and fps than this one especially when you play on vita version
the only downside so far
Holy fuck those costume designs are actually fucking laughable
