This movie is not terrible by any means. Some people just go in with expectations that go beyond themselves. It just has a very slow beginning, but that's understandable considering how much story was being told. Although I still think the movie would've been better layed out as a show, it's very entertaining and has beautiful cinematography. Loved your reaction, guys! Keep it up!

I don’t get why you don’t understand Ajak reasoning for not wanting to continue with the emergence for this planet. She saw half the universe get wiped out and the heroes of earth managed to revert it, a planet that’s considered primitive by most others in the MCU was the ones who defeated Thanos. She talks throughout the movie that earth unlike any other planet is special, most likely referring to the fact that earth has had the ability to produce powerful beings. A not so popular opinion, Eternals is a good movie. Just finished watching it on Disney+. And to simply put-Not every marvel movie has to be tons of action. Some just tell a story.
The unique story telling of this movie gives it a tonal and aesthetic difference from other marvel films making it fresh. Its visually arresting scenes alone makes the movie worth watching-from the godly scope of the Celestials to the grounded real-world locations. This is honestly one of my favorites MCU movies. Top 10 easily.
The scene between the Eternals at the Aztec empire almost made me cry. It was fascinating how "human" and how much of a complicated family they really were for being "superheroes”. It touched on so many themes: destiny, duty, authority, self-determination, hope. Every character represented a slightly nuanced view of humanity and I was invested into each one. All of them had different motivations and it really added depth. It had amazing dialogues and complex characters like Thena and I'm impressed with how well they made me care for them.
Even though the movie is lore-centric, it did not fall behind on the actions either, they gave us the best speedster fight from my girl Makkari and beautifully choreographed combat from Thena.
Chloe Zhao made the magnitude of the story work. A very beautifully presented movie and one that I am happy with. I was always invested and even the end credits were interesting to watch. Eternals is better than critics are saying and this is why sites like Rotten Tomatoes shouldn’t be taken as gospel.
I will not deny that the movie has its flaws, there are missteps but I like the way it set upped repercussions for future MCU movies.
Could the movie have been better if it was a series or trilogy? Probably yes, only for more character development. We would have loved to see Phastos losing trust in humanity then finding love, see Druig slowly descending into tyranny, sprite finding the beauty of humanity and being envious of it and so many more.
BTW, I completely love Druig, he’s the character I attach most with, he is my bias among the Eternals haha. Who’s yours?

Easily the strongest of the Eternals, Ikaris (Richard Madden) has a host of familiar powers, including flight, super strength, and laser vision. While a particular DC hero may come to mind as a blueprint for Ikaris, the movie indicates that he’s the inspiration for the myth of Icarus, son of the master inventor Daedalus. Icarus went down in history after taking Daedalus’s wings and flying too close to the sun, meeting a tragic end that’s long served as a cautionary tale about hubris. We saw a bit of Icarus’s story at the end of Eternals when Ikaris flew into the sun to repent for rebellion against his family.

It’s clear Marvel didn’t want to pay for 2 back to back movies of an untested set of characters.
I notice most people like some of the 10 characters, and I notice the biggest complaint is that the audience don’t get enough screen time of the most interesting characters. It really would have helped if the story was able to be significantly restructured after casting to focus on more charismatic characters.
I wish we had more of Makkari. She got the short end of the stick.

I actually love it when something as formulaic as what everybody expects a typical MCU film to be is shaken up. You dont find out who the clear antagonists are until later, and you're still able to sympathize with them, even though you disagree with their actions.
The comicbook fan in me lit up when Kingo mentioned vampires, though.
And then we find that Dane Whitman has the Ebony Blade, and that we hear the voice of a certain Daywalker asking Whitman if he's ready for that sword (hint: he's probably not).
Chloe Zao did a very amazing job in my opinion, she made a pretty cohesive story out of the Eternals, a lot of lore and ideas and stories put forth by Jack Kirby back in the day were made real, the sheer DIFFUCULTY of managing 10 main characters and making us care about each and every one of them in different ways .... the movie HAD to be the length that it was, otherwise we wouldnt care as much about them if it wasnt, so im glad they spent as much time as they did on each individual characters' story arcs. Well, maybe not Makkari's, i heard the filmmakers admit that her story was the most chopped. Still, the movie was amazing, and I wouldnt change a thing. I definitely want to know if there are any deleted scenes, or extended scenes.

Gilgamesh (Don Lee), clearly drawn from Mesopotamian mythology and the Epic of Gilgamesh. The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of humanity’s oldest recorded stories, telling of the mighty hero-king and his travels, including his hunt for immortality. In the movie, Gilgamesh proved to have the raw strength worthy of going down in legend but also proved to have a far more gentle and caring side to him as he cared for his partner Thena over the centuries as her mind crumbled under the weight of repressed memories.

Druig (Barry Keoghan) is an Eternal who can control other sentient beings, a power he primarily uses to control humans and stop them from fighting as he sees fit. His inspiration may have come from the Greek deity Dolos. Dolos is a minor deity known for being a spirit of mischief and trickery capable of deceiving others into following his will and even tricking the other gods. While Dolos isn’t known to control minds, his trickery and skilled manipulation make it likely that he was at least partially the inspiration for the movie’s version of Druig.

One of the Eternal’s strongest warriors, Thena (Angelina Jolie) has roots in the Greek goddess Athena. The movie even suggests that Thena was the model for Athena in the MCU, having inspired the ancient Greeks after spending time with them. The patron goddess for Athens, Athena was the Greek goddess of war and wisdom and one of Zeus’s oldest children. Thena’s ability to manifest weapons and her skill with using them makes her the perfect Eternal to embody Athena’s warrior side, while the sage advice she gives to Sersi in the final act of the film shows that she also possesses plenty of her own wisdom.

(Mercury was also the lead character of Eternals creator Jack Kirby's earliest work, "Mercury in the 20th Century" from Red Raven Comics.) Sersi (Gemma Chan), the de facto protagonist of the Eternal’s ensemble, has origins with the Greek sorceress Circe. Circe is another character from Greek mythology that was not a god but a human - but a powerful one. She famously turned Odysseus’ crew into pigs during the Odyssey, though Sersi can only transmute non-sentient objects, such as turning dirt into water. There’s also a nod to the idea of Sersi inspiring the legend of King Midas as in one of her first interactions with humanity, Sersi turns a stone dagger into pure gold.

Kingo is another of the Eternals without a clear parallel to a deity. One influence might have been Dionysus, god of theatre and wine. This influence can be seen through Kingo’s love of performance; he’s spent his time on Earth acting in movie after movie for a century, passing himself off as his own grandson to maintain the illusion of agelessness. This combined with a sense of flamboyance suggests Dionysus could be Kingo’s inspiration.

The comic origin story for The Eternals explains so much about how the Marvel universe. The producers of this movie changed a lot for unknown reason
    * The Celestials created the Eternals, the Deviants and modern humans from prehuman life. So they aren’t from space or robots. This is also explains how regular humans have the potential to gain superpowers like Spider-Man, Fantastic Four or the X-Men
    * The Eternals are powerful AF. Practically anyone of them (except Sprite) can go toe to toe with characters like Thor.
    * Practically all Eternals can project energy and fly. It’s not just Ikaris who can do that
    * The Eternals are almost impossible to kill. They also heal on their own from practically any injury. Even if they do die, the Great Machine inside the Earth will resurrect them in a new body with intact memories
    * Eternals are physically perfect so none of them would be deaf like shown

it's like Doctor Strange compared to Civil War all over again... it was underrayed... look at now, Strange is literally the most popular.

Love this movie! So happy you enjoyed it. It definitely has a lot of deep themes that makes you think well after the movie is over. Arishem is the Judge so he is going to judge earth if it’s worthy to be saved

Sometimes it felt empty but I think that it’s bc there’s no undertone music until something happens. Idk I could be wrong

Here's another thing to think about, technically Tiamut dying was Ikarus' fault. Druig was actually putting him to sleep and if he had just let him continue then Tiamut would never have had to die. Others have also speculated that Tiamut willingly sacrificed himself for Humanity because he likely could have stopped them when he joined the uni-mind. The theory is that because he was absorbing energy from the Humans that, just like Ajak, he saw that Humans were worthy of living.
Ajak also never doubted Arishem until coming to earth- even in Babylon, she told Arishem that there was something special about this plant. So in the millions of years that she had helped Celestials emerge, it was this planet that changed her mind.
Lastly, my opinion of Ikarus and flying into the sun, he reminded me of the Jem'Hardar from DS9- if they failed to protect one of their 'Gods' (The Changlings) then they killed themselves. I don't even think he was crying and apologizing because he betrayed them, I think he was crying because his 'God' had died and he couldn't kill the woman he loved to save him
BTW- I really enjoyed watching all of you!

Great thing about the "they look like Gods" line. Is that to humans who have never seen anything like them, they are Gods. And some eventually became their mythology gods. Like Athena and Icarus from Greek Mythology. And Gilgamesh in Babylon.

I don't understand why she turned it into marble, why didn't she turn it into air to float away?
Like she discussed earlier and then change its form back after it left the Earth?
