hei, discovered you today and watched a few videos now (bc the Olympus mji video was good) and was asking myself if you d be up to, to explain the basics of iso, shutter speed ect.? :)
With film cameras, the lens is essential (and with AF cameras, the AF). So, the „almost“ in „almost identical“ is pretty wide. But you‘re right in so far that you can save a lot of money by buying the unknown sister instead of a hyped camera. Konica A4 vs Konica Big Mini as well.
Yeah, the lens is the only thing affecting image quality in film cameras (assuming you can get the same focus, focal length, aperture and shutter speed). So it would be better if there was a camera with lesser features and the same quality of lens.
great video. as of right now, I cant find one online hahah. I mean i've only been searching for about 5 min but its definitely hard to find, your video def boosted the hype haha!

@@willysheepskin Don't spend much time or money reaching out for this one. The lens in the XA is a unique design, used to compact the lens into the thin body without having to "pop out" to function. It is unique because it was relatively expensive and ended up being poor quality by any rational measure. It vignettes terribly (darkens around edges and into corners of the image.). It has visible distortion. It's resolution is as low has the worst lens in any camera of the type. It is truly one of the most ergonomic pocket cameras for small snapshot use, but its YT reputation as a significant photographic tool is total hype. Note that with the following version, the XA2, Olympus ditched that lens in favor of a Tessar copy like used on the Minitec or T4. Yes, it pops out.

The J mini looks to be closer to the minitec Af in construction/components but I have no experience with it so wouldn’t be able to offer a properly informed opinion!
Is it a surprise to anyone that Yashica would use the same core components and electronics for the T4 and MiniTec Super? Why would they build a different basic camera for these two moderls, or the other Minitec models for that matter? The lenses are both Tessars, one an authorized Tessar with Zeiss' proprietary "T" lens coating (i.e., royalty paid to Zeiss), and the other with Yashica's Tessar copy, a generic style of lens used in many P-n-S cameras from most makers (No royalty to Zeiss). At around $100. the Minitec is reasonably priced. At $500-700, the T4 is ridiculous owing to being hyped to a mass of buyers who are just ignorant about what they buy.
Very true! Glad I got to illustrate it in a video haha! I had read rumours about the minitec lens being pretty much the same construction but didn’t know if it was in fact a verified copy, there are for sure some apparent differences in quality between the two but my sensibility vote is for the minitec also haha!
I just don't get it. I mean I sorta get it. But I don't get it. At these prices and this level of p&s fragility it never stops being bizarre. Even an XA or a Rollei 35 is a better choice to me. Far less to go wrong mechanically or electronically (if at all). Just as small. I don't get it.
I'm glad there are more overhyped cameras to take some of the demand off of the rest. That way i can get stuff like my Hi-matic 7s (not the 7sII) for 60 bucks or whatever, and get the same results. Thanks rubes!
You can buy a truck with a four-cylinder, a v6 or a v8 and they all have gas peddles so they’re like the same thing right? I’m not saying that everyone needs to splurge on the best optics but let’s not totally disregard that part of the camera like it’s a gimmick or something. And the comment about fixing it in post :l
Lol, that's a good analogy. The lens has the biggest impact on the quality of a film photo after all. So i'll gladly sacrifice features and size before lens quality.
Those cameras are about as interesting as lump of shit. If you’re going to do a vlog about cameras then do one about decent cameras; those cameras in this video are utterly SHIT at best, to the point where I would rather take photos with a fart.
Excellent plan, I’ve gone back in time and uploaded videos on cameras that I’ve used for years like the Mamiya 7, rb67, Nikon f3, Contax g2 and other fun ones, just for you so that I could make up for the lack of videos covering decent cameras on the channel! I warped back to various periods over the past year and a bit just to make it seem like I’d organically uploaded them too Gosh I’d feel silly having made a comment like yours if I didn’t know about time machines, teehee!

We appreciate you raising prices on cameras, Will😂💔 lmao great video man!
I didn’t think I had that kind of potential impact 😭😭😭 glad you enjoyed it though AJ!
Hey William, do you know what the brand of the case is for the minitec super? Thanks
*Yashica minitec super's price going uppp*
I hope not! I guess we'll have to see!
i only found the yashica j- mini super on ebay is this the right cam? or something completely diffrent?
WILLY
PAIN!!!!
PAIN! WHERE YA BEEN!
@@willysheepskin currently not doing well.. i wont miss the next one!
Is there any way you can shoot without the flash. Ive bought this camera and still couldnt figure it out
2 years ago and prices have doubled
I can't find one anywhere, too bad.
thanks cool video :)
Hey Willy
Hello very early Sreeku!
the Yashica T2 would be a better comparison.
what’s the difference between the minitec and the j-mini tech super?
The J mini looks to be closer to the minitec Af in construction/components but I have no experience with it so wouldn’t be able to offer a properly informed opinion!
Oh but who is Carl zeiss! 😄😄😄
Mehh just some guy who liked glass I think ahaha ;)
My Yashica t4 winds the 10:22 film all the way to the end instead of stopping on frame 1. Any ideas of how to remedy this isuue??
Check the little recessed mid roll rewind button isn't accidently pressed in and stuck!
Could anyone help me understand the difference between the Microtec AF and Super?
Can't find the minitec super anywhere to buy, if anyone has a link where i could buy this that might be helpful
Am I the only one that can't seem to find this camera anywhere? No listings on eBay
They all sold after this video, not something I expected haha
@@willysheepskin damn internet
PRICES OF MINITEC SUPER JUST WENT UP AFTER THIS VIDEO😭😭😭😭😭
Ahah I hope not man!
Except it is not.
Minitec super has a triplet lens, T4 has Tessar lens.
to be fair
I just don't get it. I mean I sorta get it. But I don't get it. At these prices and this level of p&s fragility it never stops being bizarre.
Even an XA or a Rollei 35 is a better choice to me. Far less to go wrong mechanically or electronically (if at all). Just as small.
I don't get it.
I'm glad there are more overhyped cameras to take some of the demand off of the rest. That way i can get stuff like my Hi-matic 7s (not the 7sII) for 60 bucks or whatever, and get the same results. Thanks rubes!
Thanks to you minitec super price is doubled! ;-(!!!!!
Is the Microtec AF-Super the same as the minitec super?
Dang 5 days late to the party and they're none on eBay, Rats!!!
I'm just going to say it.... You don't need to spend over $200 on a point and shoot.
Big facts Theodore!
Of course now a year later these are $250.
HYPEBEAST WILL
HE LIKES THE ZEISS STUFF, nice to see you stop by as always btw yung specialist 🥳
but it has a carl zeisss lens ! hahahahahaaaaaaa
Ahah Hypebeast Will is confused
Tessar lenses are waaaay over rated
Good cameras, but wow. They are ugly. hahaha
Those cameras are about as interesting as lump of shit. If you’re going to do a vlog about cameras then do one about decent cameras; those cameras in this video are utterly SHIT at best, to the point where I would rather take photos with a fart.
I would pay to see you do this.
Excellent plan, I’ve gone back in time and uploaded videos on cameras that I’ve used for years like the Mamiya 7, rb67, Nikon f3, Contax g2 and other fun ones, just for you so that I could make up for the lack of videos covering decent cameras on the channel!
I warped back to various periods over the past year and a bit just to make it seem like I’d organically uploaded them too
Gosh I’d feel silly having made a comment like yours if I didn’t know about time machines, teehee!
I mean they’re point and shoots lol, and they’re not bad. They have been used for editorial shoots by famous photographers
Ahhh.. Oh dear. 😂😂😂. I see you're brand new to the channel... Welcome.. A few pointers though... 1) We behave like decent, kind and educated humans in the comments on this channel. It's a thing. I'm sure you know how, so please do this in the future. 2) Being new to the channel, maybe take a few minutes in self orientation to see what else is on here before making suggestions of what Will should blog about. Seriously, about 30 seconds scrolling through previous uploaded videos and you wouldn't look so very, very silly right now. Clearly you're in a dark space emotionally, hopefully you feel better soon.
