Just picked one of these up. If you want a double stack concealed carry gun that you don't have to modify to make it better, this is probably the best option out there. Just throw some night sights on it and it is perfect. I was a dedicated Glock guy but Smith and Wesson is really making a better gun right now.
Honestly, I’ve never been a Glock guy and never will be. I like pretty much everything about the smith and Wesson better. It’s not perfect. I have a 10mm and I feel like the gun is undersprung both on the recoil spring and the magazine. I feel like they timed the gun to run with a red dot. It’s the only explanation for why they’d have such a light recoil spring on a 10mm with such a soft mag spring. Well the only one besides they’re cheap and they threw 9mm springs at it and pained them orange. 🍊
@@nrsolja1022 just gotta keep using it. The springs loosen up over time. Use a mag loader to save your thumbs if you need to. I can hand load mine now, the weapon still works like a sewing machine.
I went to my local firearms dealer with my mind set on buying a glock. I checked the glock vs the m&p, and i had to go with the m&p. It just felt better in my hand.
Got my new 3.6 Compact this week, and I love it ! It is like my Gen 1 Shield ,WITH a 15 + 1 round capacity. What is not to love about that? The gun is a little thicker in slide and grip, but that makes it feel like you are shooting a full-size M&P. Overall height and grip length dimensions are the same as the Shield with the barrel being only about .70" longer than the Shield. This is the perfect CCW for me ! Recoil is easier to control than the Shield due to grip size and texturing. Trigger IS much smoother than my Gen 1 Shield, and works well right out of the box. My 10 pull average on the Lyman gauge came in at 3.5 lbs, and that is bound to improve. Bottom line is that if you like the M&P line, you will love this compact. Don't hesitate to pick one up, if you can find one.......... Thanks, Sootch, for another excellent review! I enjoy your channel a great deal !!!
For the grip texture: I just took some 800 grit sandpaper and lightly sanded the side panels to knock down the texture a little bit so I can carry it without catching my shirts. Took maybe 2 minutes total and no pressure
S&W hit the nail on the head with the ergonomics. Better than any other polymer pistol in my opinion. The Glocks feel unnatural and the Sigs feel like a broomstick
I just ordered this based upon your review. I've owned the Shield & G26 & I really want a gun that I can feel like its another appendage of myself. This M&P 2.0 9mm just seems to fit perfectly. Thank you for the video.
I picked up mine at Shoot point blank, for 400 last year. It’s been a real good gun, my only negative is the grip becomes very aggressive after awhile at the range. But its really not an issue considering that the average self defense shooting, uses less than 5 rounds
I carry appendix and found the grip to be too aggressive, it would actually irritate my skin after carrying after a while. I found a cheap fix, a quick trip to Wally World for a bicycle inner tubedid the trick. I cut off a 4" or so section , worked it up the grip and then trimmed it to fit. It works great, good grip and no more skin irritation. I do love the gun, shoots great, great capacity and small enough to conceal well.
Quality video. I've seen my fair share, and this easily sits at the top. You show the gun for a long period of time close with high detail. Hit all the main talking points. NO FLUFF. Well done.
Wow, the M&P series is really keeping up. I got the 2.0 compact 40 cal version and it is a smooth shooting pistol even for 40. I did put a tactical grip sleeve on, just fells better than the texture but no big deal. Nice review.
PIcked one of these recently, what a great pistol and value vs the V1. I expected I would want an apex trigger but found with the grip texture and the trigger on the 2.0 I was able to effortlessly group very well. Let a friend shoot it and he was impressed as well. The 3.6" size is great as well! Added trijicon 3 dot white night sights. Great review!
2 months of edc and 2400 rnds not a hickup as of yet with everykind of ammo i can aquire . The trigger has settled in at 4.8 lbs and smoothed up as it has been shot. Retired my trusty old 19 for the ergos of the grip i have nothing but great things to say about it.
Got mine today, you may not think that 3.6 vs 4.0 is much but put it in a holster and they're is a great enough benefit to me, it's my new carry weapon. Sig again fails again with another quality issue with a new firearm, p365... the MCX and the 320 all had issues... glad they don't manufacture food!
2020 has been a year. I finally could afford to buy guns again. I bought a M&P 9 2.0 compact, M&P Shield EZ , Walther PPQ compact, and a Springfield Hellcat. Of those four I love the 2.0 compact. It feels the best in my hands and shoots the best for me...hands down. The shield EZ is my favorite sub-compact...like it better than the Hellcat, however it only holds 7 with 1 in the chamber. :/ The Walther was a mistake buying it. They were on sale for $425 at a local gun shop, so I couldn't help myself. Much more muzzle flip on the Walther. I'm a 2.0 fan..especially with the 17 rd mags.
3,6" subcompact slide with compact grip frame is a winner no matter what vendor. I hate it when my pinky is hanging and the extenders defeat the whole purpose of not having them anyway so you may as well be able to control the gun but not have it dig into your hip with IWB as much. Be nice of CZ does the same thing.
Excellent job explainig the differences between 3.6 " and 4" barrel models. The takedown procedure was thorough and he covered details that were important to me.
I agree with Sootch00 in that this is a nice size for a compact pistol! I recently purchased one of these and this is now one of my favorite guns! Grip texture really helps lock the gun into your hands and combined with an excellent trigger, I found it as accurate as shooting my Glock 19 Gen4. In addition, it also holds 15 rounds in the magazine, but doesn't feel bulky IMO. If your looking at a new compact firearm, definitely worth renting one to try it out on the range. Not as slim as a single stack S&W Shield, but the ergo's are so good along with recoil absorption that you may prefer it, as you don't need grip extended mags to achieve a full grip hold.
I have been a Smith & Wession owner since 1978. Starting with the Model 10, then Model 19, then Model 28. Owned only one Glock. Which was a 40 cal. When the M&P first came out. I got a full size 9mm. I will have to look at this closer
Not sure if you've checked it out, but the Magpul 12 round magazine for the Glock 26 is an amazingly compact way to carry +2 on your 26 that is fairly smaller than the pierce extension and has been 100% reliable for me. I've been carrying/range shooting with them for around 6 months now and have all but forgotten about the stock 10 round mags
Excellent Review. I didn't understand why they shortened the barrel. When you compared it to the way most people would normally carry a G26 with an extension it made much more sense.
That small difference means everything depending on what you're wearing. I carry a SIG P229 Enhanced Elite with the big ol' beavertail, so I'm not picky about the potential of carrying bigger heavier guns, but I also have a Gen5 G26 for days when I can't handled even a G19-size grip. Other days, the G19 or-in this case-a 3.6" S&W M&P 9 M2.0-would be excellent. But we can also add a G19 mag to a G26 and have the same height to capacity ratio, yet, with a shorter barrel which will carry nicely OWB as the muzzle will stay above the hemline of a t-shirt. Winner? G26 because it can alternate between a 5" and a 4.17" grip. It's also easier to work on. Try changing the sights on a M&P without a sight pusher. Moreover, you need to remove the rear sight to completely strip the pistol.
I always judge whether the gun is any good or not by whether it brings a smile to Sootch's face while he's shooting it. I watched closely. No smile! In fact, he seemed to be frowning. Therefore, this must not be a good option! I'll stick with my 4" M&P 2.0 Compact.
If Sootch only frowned in this video, then maybe some other event might account for his mood. If it were rare for him to not crack a single smile while shooting a gun, I might agree with you that something else happened, such as he learned that his dog was run over just before he started filming. But having watched his channel for some time, I know this is not a one time occurrence. I believe the failure to smile is a reliable indicator. But if you want to drop some serious coin on a gun that utterly fails to bring a smile to the reviewer as he shoots the gun, it's your money to throw away as you see fit. Best of luck to you.
Smith needs to come out with a 2.0 double stack sub compact (in the grip length) now. Glock gives us every option. Smith always seems to only cover two thirds of the picture.
After several mind changes on the handgun I will buy for concealed carry, this in the 4" barrel version is what I'm decided on now. Thank you for your video, talking about this being a good carry choice. I was worrying that it might be too big, though I felt that I would be able shoot the M&P compact with its thicker grip size better than the shields with its thinner grip. Thank you. 😎👍
Great vid as usual. If I were starting over, I might go the 2.0 route, although the apex is a must with the crappy hinged trigger. The "magic" happens with the g26 and the 15 round mag with an xgrip. Exact same grip length as the M&P 3.6/g19/M&P 2.0c but still a lighter option. You also have better flexibility if you need to drop to 10/12 rounds for better concealment. I do however definitely like what M&P is doing with their 2.0 series and the 3.6 looks like a pretty sweet little option.
Perfect appendix carry gun. I can't carry a 4" without it digging into my femoral or groin causing severe discomfort. Might consider switching from my sheild.
Great comparison to the Glock 26. Not a lot of size difference and you get a full grip and 15 rounds, without having to get a mag extension. I think the 2.0 line of pistols are a very viable option, I like all of them.
Im in love with my new 2.0 4" barrel i change my glock 19 for the mp for my edc thinking about buying an other one for my wife she love it as well the trigger feels way better than the glock trigger right out of the box and also steel sight so you don't have to spend extra money replacing the plastic sight on the g19 and is $150 cheaper too use that money for ammo you can't go wrong with this pistols awesome job smith and wesson
I just purchased this gun at Larry's pistol and pawn in Madison Al on sale for $386.00. I already own 4 other 2.0 guns. I love it. Awesome guns. Great video.
Another great review that stands the test of time. I purchased this handgun, well actually the 4” model in .40 caliber, back in 2020 as a new shooter and basically hated it because I didn’t know how to handle the recoil. Now after several years of shooting and some training I’ve rediscovered this handgun and it’s quite nice. I have the P320 in compact and shoot it in .40 and 357 Sig and this handgun hangs right in with both and it’s actually easier to conceal and feels lighter …I haven’t done a weight comparison but I will. I actually came here to figure out takedown as I like your thorough and authoritative explanations about that so thanks. Just order a holster earlier today and this will go into my rotation after a few more trips to the range. I’m finding that I shoot it very well. Thanks for what you do 👍
Have the 3.6" version and love it for my carry pistol. I did put a Talon grip over the stippling of the handpiece because it was too hard on my hands when firing 100 or so rounds at the range. The Talon has helped calm down the grip, but it still is a very nice grip to shoot with. No slipping, still a great feel when pulling from my holster and firing. Great pistol!
I have the original 9c. I don’t understand why they would not offer it in the 2.0. Such a great carry gun. Maybe it’s on the way? Doesn’t seem like though
What a well thought out design and the fact I have the option to get one with a safety is game changer. This is the only striker fire pistol i have seen with the option of having a thumb safety. For conceal carry seems like it reduces the risk of misfire when holstering. Steel sights, good capacity, decent size and great price. Def got this one in my sights! Thanks for the review!
I have watched your videos for years. You do a great job! I was debating on getting a shield. But now you have me excited about the 3.6! Keep up the good work!
I'll say this.. Took about 2 weeks of carrying aiwb, but that aggressive texture on the grip no longer bothers me. At first was very annoying, but it seriously does go away. It's too hot in summer to wear a undershirt. You don't need to, just be prepared for a little discomfort.. It does go away.
My next edc. Shield 45 for week 1 , walther pps m2 for week 2 , ruger ec9s for week 3 and soon to be m&p 9c for week 4. And glock 21sf , xd mod2 for anytime i want to switch out. Lol. YES!!!
On another channel they had tested Barrel length vs Velocity. The original S&W Compact had a similar barrel length. Ironically being shorts Barrel did not alter the velocity as compared to the common 4" lengths. The 3.6 length even held up to the nearly 5" barrel on an Beretta 92.It was as you got shorter than the 3.6 that 9mm seemed to fall off noticeably. So it was clear S&W knew what they were doing when they made it this length for 9mm. I ponder the utility of loosing 0.4" of barrel. The advantage I see is possible pocket carry. Typically barrel length is easy to conceal and carry. The grip is the hard part. I think the big thing here is feel in the hand. S&W now has a set of three 15+ round 9mm hand guns that range in size. So a trip to the gun shop can determine which fits best in the hand.
That little chop in the barrel and slide will really help in concealment. A very important factor when carrying in a hot climate like out here in Vegas. Guess I have to explain to the wife I need"just one more gun" :)
I have seen it with a 4.25 barrel and 17 rounds mag. I practice typically out to 15 yrds and occasionally 25. I am more accurate with a 4" barrel and normally carry that size. Figure you also get better penetration. Excellent review. Thanks.
Great review!! I love the 2.0 line, the grip texture and the trigger feel a lot better. I’ve been wanting to get another carry gun was thinking about one of these or possibly the shield 2.0 in 9mm. Keep up the good work!!👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I’ll stick with my 2.0 compact it has been so durable and reliable. I completely stopped carrying my glock 19 after having carried it for 8 years. I love the new Smith and Wesson 2.0 pistols there extremely comfortable to shoot the trigger is pretty good for a striker fired pistol. And gets even smoother after you fire it a couple thousand times😆 thanks for another great review Sootch. 👍🏼
Throw on an Apex trigger, best $140 you'll ever spend on a gun. Love my 2.0 compact even more now. Stock trigger isn't bad at all, but the way it changes shape as it hinges through the trigger pull just bothered me. Oddly enough made me pull shots to the left. I could stack them, but they definitely pulled left. The trigger shoe on the apex fixed that, and the reset? Dear lord the reset is beautiful.
JohnWick, I realize that this was an old comment, but did you find it difficult to move from the G19 to it? I have heard that they feel and point very differently and I have been reluctant to change because of this. I just really like the looks of it.
I wish they would have provided a shorter grip with a grip extender to use the 15 round magazine. I have this set up on my G26 and typically carry with the 10 round magazine because the shorter grip is more concealable. I don't see much advantage to this gun over the 4" with the same size grip.
When S&W decides to refine the Gen1 9c inline with the new 2.0 series this 3.6" version will become a sleeper. Not sure why manufacturers are going this route of having compact slides on full size frames and now sub compact slides on compact frames.
oh boy that 2.0 lineup is getting a little more diverse. i bet they come out with a shorter grip version next. that could make for a potential super carry gun.
Hmm, might be picking up another rubber dummy! Agree, they're great targets. They fill a niche that steel can't, and they're far superior to setting up fresh paper targets or dealing with paper targets when it's windy. Nice being able to actually practice at close, realistic self defense ranges without danger.
Babe, Smith & Wesson just released a new model 2.0 with a 3.6” barrel. I don’t have this model yet. What’s nice about the M&P 2.0 is that I’m not spending an additional $600.00 making the handgun “perfect” for me. I’m only replacing the factory steel sights with Trijicon NS (🍊 outline) and replacing the plastic rear slide plate with Bastion laser engraved Moaon Aabe. ($600.00 minus $140.00 = another M&P).
I am very happy with the new M&P 2.0 pistols, and will probably be getting one of these as well. This looks like a great carry option, as I do not go for single stacks. I can just as easily conceal a G27 as I can some mouse pistol. Another great review brother, thanks for letting me know about this new offering and have a nice weekend.
13:40 I wonder if Smith & Wesson will now come out with a M2.0 9mm 3.6" barrel with a 17 round capacity to really compete with the new Glock 45. Although the G45 is a 4.02" barrel, a 3.6" competitor with a 17 round capacity would be a hit.
Get the subcompact. It has the 3.6 barrel..and buy a 17 round mag..it comes with 2 sleeves extensions. One for the 15, the other for the 17. hope this helps.
just ordered mine. great review. i wish other reviewers would follow your format. most important thing for me was the trigger and you went over it in detail. ---- thnx

Just bought one yesterday. LOVE it.
Smith needs to come out with a 2.0 double stack sub compact (in the grip length) now. Glock gives us every option. Smith always seems to only cover two thirds of the picture.
Awesome gun/review! Now Smith and Wesson has NO excuse for not making a 2.0 version of the 9c, 40c, and 45c models.
Love the stick trigger of the mp 2.0
Great stuff brother! I’d like to give the 3.6 a go at some point!
GREAT review. Ordered my M&P 2.0 3.6 Compact except in 40 cal. Can't wait!
That's exactly what I'm looking at, I want the 3.6 in 40 like you have, great carry piece, I'm trying to find one.
Perfect appendix carry gun. I can't carry a 4" without it digging into my femoral or groin causing severe discomfort. Might consider switching from my sheild.
In the search for an alternate carry....
So many options.
So little funds.
Also, so much less storage space. xD
FYI - There is a pick in the base of the grip to use to disengage the striker.
I love mine and the grip is awesome for my sweaty hands 🙌 lol
just got this exact style but just in a 40 for 300$
helluva deal
IN? IT'S NOT A CAR!
Keep tearing it up with that M&P 9
It would be perfect if they offered a small flat thumb safety identical to the one on my Shield.
I like Sootch's style of rapid shots...
Oh and mine also has a crimson red trace which is really kool especially for close quarters and dark room situations
Love it. Wish they would have cut the grip at 12 or 13 rounds of 9mm, though, like the classic m&p9c
Give them time, they will probably release one within the next 6 months or so. They are trying to milk this series for all it's worth.
Joe Schnapps its an excellent series. I actually shot my 2.0 compact 9mm today.
Even 14 rounds would’ve been cool and niche
Gregory Hunt, correct
Joe Schnapps just like glock is miliking their series? (Gen 5)
I just purchased this gun at Larry's pistol and pawn in Madison Al on sale for $386.00. I already own 4 other 2.0 guns. I love it. Awesome guns. Great video.
I must have this gun. I love my shield but for the longest time I’ve wanted a gun between the Glock 19 and my shield this would be perfect!!!!
I'm thinking of getting one is these to replace my 4" compact! The reduced length would help a lot in the crotch department!
Thanks for what you do 👍
I also kept the factory sights but painted the rear sight red, i dont know why but that works better for me than a 3dot white sight
Just picked up the S&W 2.0 last weekend. I chose it based on your excellent review.
I have a Beretta 92FS Compact and a FNS 9C. Now I’m going to after this S&W M&P 2.0 3.6”
I chose the m&p 2.0 4inch for my first handgun couldn't be happier.
This is an example of a Goldie Locks gun. Not too big and not too small. Juuuust right!
I have seen it with a 4.25 barrel and 17 rounds mag. I practice typically out to 15 yrds and occasionally 25. I am more accurate with a 4" barrel and normally carry that size. Figure you also get better penetration. Excellent review. Thanks.
The 1st gen 9C really needs to get a 2.0
It's out now but I can't find any reviews on it...
Great review!! I love the 2.0 line, the grip texture and the trigger feel a lot better. I’ve been wanting to get another carry gun was thinking about one of these or possibly the shield 2.0 in 9mm. Keep up the good work!!👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I Love Mine..added XS F-8 sights and its now my EDC.
Thanks Brother!
I got the 5 inch and now want a concealed and carry. Dumb of me of buying a 5 inch. Now i need a smaller one.
I wish they would have provided a shorter grip with a grip extender to use the 15 round magazine. I have this set up on my G26 and typically carry with the 10 round magazine because the shorter grip is more concealable. I don't see much advantage to this gun over the 4" with the same size grip.
Appendix carry...less barrel poking you...
Love it got a m&p 3.6 2.o smith wesson sootch u got the best review's thanks for another pistol to my collection
I'd love a 2 finger grip
Here it is a year later and you nailed it
You called it! But now you cant find this model with the 15 round frame anywhere. I hope smith and wesson didn't discontinue it.
S&W needs to introduce the 3.6 model with their new aluminum frame. That switch would make it fly off the shelves.
Hmm, might be picking up another rubber dummy! Agree, they're great targets. They fill a niche that steel can't, and they're far superior to setting up fresh paper targets or dealing with paper targets when it's windy. Nice being able to actually practice at close, realistic self defense ranges without danger.
I like the mags ejection don't have to shake em out. Like how u can have a full size grip easily
Just got mine with the crimson laser..love it!
Seems like a really nice option for appendix carry seeing as the barrel probably wouldn't dig in as much when sitting or squatting.
Would you prefer this one over the 4”?
Problem is I can't choose. Lol
Only at 3:27 and you’ve made some great points. Between the Sig 365 and the S&W 3.6... Glock better step up their game.
I'll stick with the 4 inch version I currently have...
Shoots much nicer than the first generation 9c. Feels good in the hand too. I would buy one.
just ordered mine. great review. i wish other reviewers would follow your format. most important thing for me was the trigger and you went over it in detail. ---- thnx
