Love what Dave said “ No won’t coin grow, unless I sow coin” we really need to do better! How can she stay that long without a job and she’s be living of Childs support. Such an a terrible woman and feel so sorry for the husband. This shows we he divorced her lazy ass. My wife and I just run with the 4% rule to keep it simple. Save up enough that 4% of your total retirement savings would cover your expenses in retirement. As an example, $1 Million allows you to withdraw $40,000 per year (dividends on investments often pay about half of that).
It's a simple rule of thumb, and we don't bother calculating things like Social Security, only what we save ourselves. We consider that as "extra" if we need it, rather than absolutely necessary.

"God will provide." Well that nicely leaves both her ex AND her off the hook. I absolutely believe that God will provide but I think sometimes He provides by giving people a mind and the ability to earn their own way. She said that she stayed at home with her older children (when she was still married and enjoyed living on her husband's salary) so she just felt like she should stay home with her youngest child (when she is living on child support) in order to be fair to that youngest child. I think the problem many divorced women make is that they try to keep the same standard of living AFTER a divorce as they had BEFORE the divorce and the vast majority of the time that is just not possible. Scale back and live within your NEW MEANS instead of trying to keep living like you used to live.
I was not divorced but after 31 years of marriage my husband died. One of the first things I did was call the young man who mowed our lawn and told him that because my husband had died I was not sure I could continue paying him so I needed for him to suspend his work on my lawn until he heard back from me. I totally understood that I was living under a totally different set of circumstances and what used to be my way of life was no longer my way of life. I think women who get divorced need to understand that as well.

    2. This should be a lesson for all women and wives. Dont give up your job to play housewife or full time mom. Keep working and earn money. If you get divorced you won't have to depend on alimony. Depend on yourself. Get a damn job.
    3. Most divorce men don't want full custody of young children because it interferes with their social life. Most men (not all) dont want to cook everyday, clean everyday, do laundry, get the kids ready for school, get the kids ready for bed, make doctors appointments and attend school meetings. Okay so I’m not defending this woman both of these parents have clearly made bad decisions. But people saying “this poor guy” $1900 is not very much in child support for three kids. That probably would cover full time daycare for the youngest and maybe an occasional pair of shoes. Doesn’t cover food, clothing, gifts, books, pull ups (overnights), etc. if she has full custody and was working full time. Is it really “poor him” for having to pay for one expense for one child when he has three? No. If she has no family help, then she’s paying the majority of the expenses for these kids on her own once she’s back to work. Hopefully she has parents or something who can help or maybe he’ll take them occasionally so she can work extra. The people saying that he is on the losing end of this clearly don’t understand who is actually losing our: the kids. Stop defending a grown adult who could have worked harder on their marriage but instead gets off paying a daycare bill for one child.

PSA ... since women have autonomy over their body and I'm all for that, so do men.
Vasectomy is nearly 100 percent effective in preventing pregnancy.
Vasectomy is an outpatient surgery with a low risk of complications or side effects.
The cost of a vasectomy is far less than the cost of female sterilization (tubal ligation) or the long-term cost of birth control medications for women.
***My daughter was born when I was 28. I had a vasectomy at 29. I am now 51. That's 22 years, no accidents, no oops, and everything works fine. And furthermore, I have had the love and joy of being a Dad AND have been able to manage whatever life threw my way since I didn't have multiples.
Men... be responsible for your choices!!

I know having a 3 year old is hard but if you can have someone look after her while you go few rounds you can make up to $80-100 a day. Before you get a different job this will put food on the table. Best of luck.

The way the divorce court works is to maintain their lifestyle that they had before the divorce. He works, she doesn’t, which means he maintained her life prior to the divorce and will do so after. He pays $2k-ish per month for the kids. It’s her decision whether she wants to work and make extra money to live a normal middle-class life or not work and scrimp and save and eat beans and rice and have no car, gas, heat or air conditioning. Either way the kids got screwed.

Providing for yourself should have been a number 1 concern and plan before the divorce. You can watch other children at home you can work from home doing various things including graphic design. Maybe find another mom and take turns watching each other's kids a couple days a week so you can do instacart doordash something ro make some extra cash. You can sustain possibly doing what yoyr doing but only temporarily. Go to a food bank see what resources you are eligible for temporarily but being financially secure on your own regardless of child support or a man's income is key.

I don't think the person who wanted to divorce is automatically the bad spouse. I've found that it's more likely to be the opposite. My dad wanted to divorce his ex wife (not my mother btw) because she was cheating on him and doing other crazy things. But his ex tried to keep the marriage. I've seen this in other unhappy marriages that end in divorce. The guilty party wants to eat their cake and still have it.

Sounds like she was working in graphic design job at some point. Her husband and her decide to have children and decided that it made more sense economically for her to stay home instead of work. With 3 kids that makes sense. My husband and I both worked when we had one kid. But once the second one came along it made more sense for me to stay home during the day and work a PT on weekends and evenings when he could watch our kids. It sounds like she works part time at her pottery and furniture refinishing business. Maybe not enough to be dependable income but probably helped with some discretionary items. And guys you have to stop and think, she takes care of the kids, cleans the house, cooks the meals, and who knows what else. Just because she is a SAHM doesn’t mean she doesn’t work. If SAHM actually got paid for all they did, they would probably be sitting pretty. Don’t be disrespectful. Think with a 3 yo she would have to dish out a lot for daycare to go back to work.
