    This would have been much more interesting, if you had done a precision test, right out of the package, so we had something that we could compare the end results with. And maybe sped up the cleaning, just a smidge. Otherwise a great video.

    Do any of the chucks have ball bearings? I didn't see any in the video.

      No balls. Not sure if intentionally misleading or honest mistake, but I ended up confronting the distributor about it. More detail here: ruclips.net/video/65MF7npw4xE/видео.htmlsi=so701gi5AlwyCr0m

    Where is the ball bearing suppose to go?

      It's hard to describe, but here's a link to another video (at the correct timestamp) and you can see exactly what it should have looked like: ruclips.net/video/CX92C3klOiY/видео.htmlsi=Twl6tjlHnjgMzXs6&t=286

    My drill press chuck is stiff to turn, do I need to disassemble to clean and re-grease it?

    • @IGWorkshop
      @IGWorkshop  2 месяца назад

      I always try to do that with any drill chuck I buy. I don't think it would hurt at all and I think it would almost certainly help. You'll have to make sure you've got the right tools to disassemble (and re-assemble) the drill chuck, but if you do, I'd recommend it!

      @IGWorkshop Thanks.

    You didn't explain why you marked it with the sharpie.

      Thanks for the feedback. I just like to make sure the jaws go back where they came from originally. I have no idea if it makes a difference, but it's a habit I've gotten into when I'm doing maintenance on a lathe chuck and do the same thing with drill chucks.

    Umm. You just disassembled, wiped grease, sprayed a WD-40. How does it make any difference to a precision? No accuracy tests before disassembly. So what do you tried to show?

      @@ПетрИванов-ы6е in my experience, heavy grease like that catches and holds onto find bits of grime and grit over time, causing a buildup over time that can adversely affect the accuracy of the unit.
      I’m addition to properly lubricating them, I disassembled them in order to evaluate their internal machining and in doing so discovered that two of the chucks had poor internal machining while one had fantasfic internal machining.
      The WD-40 you referenced is actually a WD-40 branded white lithium grease spray, not your run-of-the-mill WD-40. It’s a fantastic light weight grease and doesn’t get clogged up with grit as badly as heavy grease does, while still providing excellent lubrication. That’s just my experience though, your mileage may vary. The link to that product is in the description.
      As depicted in the video, I also located and removed several prominent burrs. A burr is a small shard of metal that juts out along the edge of a machined surface, left over from the manufacturing process. These could also affect accuracy and operability.
      I do appreciate the suggestion to include a pre-maintenance data point for accuracy in the video and will incorporate that suggestion in future videos. Thanks for watching.

    We did not get a run-out check as bought.
    How do I know cleaning and de-burring increased accuracy and decreased run-out ?
    It may have made them smoother and easier to open and close, but more accurate ? I doubt it.

      It would have been good to do a pre maintenance check. My goal was to get as much precision as possible out of budget chucks, but good suggestion for next time!

    Although it was an interesting disassembly video, I was anticipating "...turning my cheap drill chuck into a precision tool...", with your video but was greatly let down. Again, not by the video. The video made for a great review and research video but the title was a let down.

      Sorry to let you down, Eddie. I’ll fix that.
