A lot of Disney villains have so much more personality than the protagonists, so it's understandable.
It's because Nathan is a neutral good. Everyone else in drawfee is chaotic neutral at best (best just in terms of good-to-evil axis, all drawfee hosts are good hosts).
Julia is chaotic natural, Jacob thinks he is chaotic natural but is actually ordered natural, Karina is chaotic evil (and that's why she is my favorite)
I love that once again Julia only drew a character as an excuse to draw the background, while everyone else avoided backgrounds

I actually came here to say this. Because obviously it’s a job that needed done, and I picture this being a few hundred years after he becomes a god too. He doesn’t bother with his sword anymore, and just uses fire for most things, but the shield is handy to have.

I love that Karina still clarifies that she's not being sarcastic when it's pretty obvious she always says nice things about Nathan's art.
I think it might be because of her tone? Some people have so called resting bitch face. Karina has a very level voice so when she says something like "good for him" about Aladdin's cape it could sound sarcastic if you don't know her. I like it when people use tone indicators to prevent misunderstandings. It's very helpful ^^

1.Mancub seems to me like he would claim himself to be an “apex predator” to make up for the fact that he doesn’t really belong in either the jungle or the man-village. He might or might not be the lone survivor of some sort of enchanted race the humans attempted to kill off? I could very much see him randomly trying to befriend human children, only to be scared off/attacked by their parents :(
2. Ali Baba’s (Or Bababooey maybe?) concept is already pretty solid: A former underdog growing mad with the power he stole from another, and now seeks to gain everything he “deserves”. But what really interests me is the idea that if there were a transformation scene, he could change into a gigantic rat rather than a snake (Get it, ‘cause “street rat?”)
3. Hade-cules could have been a pretty large possibility; mainly because it could be implied that if the og Hades was stuck in the river of souls & Hercules managed to keep his godhood, he would have been the next in charge to rule the underworld! A darker route could be that if Herc kept his deal with Hades and stayed in the river of souls, he could have possibly worked his way to the top, helped the spirits rebel, and overtake the Underworld as their ghostly general~
4. This one honestly feels more like an alternate timeline where Maleficent’s goons properly found and took Aurora back to the castle, but the sorceress didn’t have the heart to kill her before her 16th birthday. So instead, Maleficent raises Aurora as her apprentice and eventually her heir to the title of “Mistress of all evil”
Alternatively, this could be a sort of dark aftermath of the original timeline. My thought process was “what if when Aurora finally became a queen, she decided to move into Maleficent’s palace and discovered some of the knowledge/magic spells her old enemy kept in there?”
(To the last part) OR, Aurora becomes queen but due to her isolation in childhood doesn’t have the social skills to navigate high society, and gets ostracized. Phillip is unsympathetic and turns against her. Her aging parents blame the curse and don’t take responsibility for isolating her or destroying the textile industry, which the working class blame her for. Without the support of the nobles or the peasantry, she’s driven to abdicating her thrown and going into exile.
Maleficent, now disabled and reallocated to her palace, takes pity on Aurora and welcomes her. Feeling guilty for the wounds Phillip inflicted, Aurora decides to take care of Maleficent. She feels more herself housekeeping, crafting, caring for the creatures, and foraging in the dark forest than she ever did in the royal court, and takes a special interest in medicine as she helps with Maleficent’s medical needs. Mal teaches Aurora everything she knows about magic and the corrupt and broken society within the kingdom. Aurora decides to shoulder the burden of bringing democracy and socialism to the kingdom…

Omg the realization that Shere Khan isn't evil has blown my mind. That's one villain I never really thought about as being in a gray area.
Yeah, but keep in mind that Disney made him some guy hell-bent on murdering a child who had nothing to do with it. I DO know in reality that animals do this in real life; take out threats and competition before they become a bigger problem.
Also the "friendly vultures" are hanging around not because they fully support Mowgli, but because they think he's likely gonna die fighting shere khan and encourage him to do so to speed up the process of him dying and eat his body. Vultures hanging around is often not a good sign😅

THAT is exactly why I loved Croagunk in Gen4. Because when you sent him out, he would turn to look over his shoulder at you and snicker laugh, then look back at the opponent. Can't remember if it was all Gen4 games or just Platinum.

The Disney Sleeping Beauty’s Aurora having a fairly easy time feels like compensation for the earlier versions of the story where she goes through Some Serious Shit. Plus, Sleeping Beauty is more of a classic kinda tale that’s more focused on the story and it’s simplicity and the beauty of everything within than character driven (though I do enjoy both Aurora and Phillip). More of an art peice/ animated illustration from a storybook than the more modern idea of a film.

Yeah, it's basically an ancient story and the women had very little autonomy. Being beautiful was considered a virtue. Thank God they did not do the original story where she only wakes up bc the prince impregnated her while she was sleeping and the baby (twins) bit her nipple so she woke up
@@MiotaLee yeah, I think the movie is just so beautiful and everything about it, and hell I’d argue that for the time period both her and Phillip have more than the expected autonomy, what with him refusing the arranged marriage because he and Briar Rose clicked and briar doing the same (though she doesn’t know of the marriage yet). As royalty neither of them traditionally would have much choice in their early lives, but they do have distinctive personalities that set them apart from the original paper doll style roles assigned to them, and I think it works for the movie.
Plus the main characters that do action are all women, and they’re the fairies and Maleficent. Three older women raising a daughter protecting her from another powerful woman

In actual Greek myth, hades isn’t a bad guy. Just because he is the king of the dead everyone thinks he’s super evil, but he’s not. Actually, he isn’t the god of death, that’s Thanatos. Also, one of Hades epithets is “Helper of Heros”. Oh and also him and Persephone had one of the healthiest relationships in all of the Greek pantheon so….
The healthiest relationship in the Greek pantheon is a guy kidnapping his niece and she is trapped for half the year in the Underworld because she snacked on a pomegranate from its garden. And Persephone got to share Adonis with Aphrodite. Let that sink in.

Julia choosing Sleeping Beauty surprises me for only a second before I think "oh yeah, it is one of the most stunning movies". To this day I think Aurora has the best design of all the princesses, but ONLY in her own movie. Not in promotional material. The key difference? Her hair. In her original movie, Aurora's hair is one of the most beautiful things?? I love the colour. I love the way it's animated. I love the fact the outline is lighter than the outside. I love the shape. I fucking love her design. I love that she has a longer face than most Disney ladies. I love her purple-grey eyes. I love her peasant outfit. Her dress is like, fine I guess? The blue was such an interesting choice (another thing I hate about her promotional stuff is the pink dress gets used).
When it comes to Sleeping Beauty, its the unique artsyle (or, unique and unique, its got similar style to Hercules, which is also gorgeous)! Recently I rewarched it, not for the story (its very stock, nothing wrong with it, just a bit cookie cutter) but for the amazing art! The backgrounds are also extremely gorgeous!

My backstory for the Hercules/Hades mashup is that he accepted Zeus' offer of becoming immortal, and since Hades was gone someone needed to take over his role as ruler of the Underworld and Hercules just kinda got stuck with it. Maybe he's not evil he just embraced the aesthetic.

In the 'Drawing Suggestions Grab Bag' ep, drawfs acknowledged that they _see_ the persistent commenters who keep posting the same suggestions. Ideas they don't think are crowd-pleasing enough to justify a whole episode, but are niche & interesting. They admired the persistence. Gave preference to discord but did a couple YT comment ideas

Damn Nathan, those Shere Khan ref drawings were so spot on it was like looking at the original sketches.
I love how Karina's drawing feels more accurate to Hades in Mythology. It just feels more accurate than Disney did. All of these are wicked awesome. I would love to see more of them! ^_^

One of the underrated highlights of speed draws is Karina and her struggle subtitles.
Holy shit, that Dragon Queen Aurora. I love Sleeping Beauty, and Julia's take on Aurora + Maleficent in Mucha's style was just what I wanted.
You need to do this again, and I'm assigning you your characters:
Karina: Ariel and Ursula.
Julia: Tiana and Dr. Facilier.
Nathan: You gotta give me Cruella as a dalmatian.
Jacob: Yzma and Kuzco.

If I could draw I would’ve liked to combine Rapunzel and mother Gothel. The premise would be something like Mother gothel somehow is able to steal rapunzels magic. For the background I would have her at like the Festival of Lights but instead all the lanterns are engulfed in flames or something 🤷♀️

This video gave me a really good idea for a fusion of Belle and Gaston. I have a whole story for her.
She'd be a muscular woman, a huntress. She'd still be smart like Belle, but less bookish. Her knowledge would lie in survival. Others in her village think it's not right for a woman to be so rugged, so she'd be a loner, but not by choice. Secretly, she'd wish to meet someone who could love her for who she is.
Then, one day, her father would leave for a hunting trip with his friends. When his friends return without him, claiming he was captured by a terrible beast, she'd mount his horse and set off to find him.
The Beast would still be the same, of course, but the story's more interesting when the maiden at the door of his castle is pointing a rifle at his face. She'd be calmed down (and weirded out) by the talking object servants, but she'd still be wary of him, even after he let her father go. But the rose would still be drooping, close to losing its last petal. The servants would remind him of this: he'd have to win her over, even if she wanted him dead.
So the servants would set up a romantic dinner for the two. They'd try, and fail, to get the Beast to remember his table manners, but the lady across the table wouldn't mind. She eats like an animal, too. The feast would become a challenge to see who could eat the most voraciously. The contest would devolve into an arm wrestle. Surprisingly, the huntress could give the Beast a challenge. That's when they'd both realize that they'd found an equal, someone who likes them the way they are.
Fast-forward a bit. The huntress's father would return home to find that his daughter was missing, and he'd blame the Beast. He'd tell the village people of the horrors he witnessed and rally them to slay the monster. The mob would arrive at the castle to find the Beast with the huntress by his side, defending him. She'd tell the villagers, the people who shunned and rejected her, that the Beast isn't a monster. He's more human than all of them.
The ending would be similar. The father would survive, though, and he'd understand that his daughter was right. The rest would be the same: they'd kiss, he'd turn back, she'd still love him, and they'd live happily ever after.
