“They’re on their way to work and their job is to beat your ass” is such an amazing sentence
Would make for a great quip to threaten peeps with the power of your friend group.
I read this comment exactly as Nathan said it
ur pfp. i love lamp!

actually it’s pronounced “Ghibli’s Monster”, Ghibli was the scientist
My day is ruined, thank you
this is actually so funny i'm losing my mind
actually the “G” is silent like in gnaw or GIF
god fucking-
Dr. Ghimbo, at your service, the G is silent
I was trying to come up with a "well actually it's pronounced-" joke combining Ghibli with Luffy, and realised that's just Goofy. Which is appropriate.
Actually it’s pronounced “Juhfy”
@@stormie5666 🤣
@@stormie5666 actually that's how drawfee is REALLY pronounced 😌
Wrong it's pronounced "Lucas", but some close friends call him "George".
I don't care about what other people or even the creator say, it will always be "Ruffy" for me.
"They're going to work - and their job is beating your ass"
The gang always serving up these incredible lines

God, such a great scene described so casually.
The hero, razzing some baddies: "hah, what are yous all doin' on a bus with your brief cases? Bunch a' skeletons goin' to work?"
One of the skellies: "yeah we're going to work, and our job is beatin' your ass!"
Tremendous 😁
Me on seeing the thumbnail: "That looks awesome. I can't wait to see Julia draw catbus."
2 minutes in: WAIT THAT IS NATHAN'S DRAWING!?
Me with the monsters episode, Nathan’s drawing for jaws was immaculate
@@andreas_iced8297 still think that and Karinas Bakugo in the style of spider verse are the two best pieces in a speed draw.
IT'S NATHAN'S??? I just opened this episode and now I'm shocked
@@HelloThere-cz9ti Same. It's astonishing what Nathan can pull off sometimes. They're all amazing artists and I'm always surprised what comes out.
@@j.1668 They're truly amazing and I love them
I absolutely love that they started with a disclaimer on the pronunciation of Ghibli before anyone could yell at them lmao
and they are correct, there is no 100% correct way to pronounce it! So you must find something else to drag Drawfee for this time
Gotta do that in RUclips land unfortunately. 🤣
Should definitely be pronounced Fibli, with the gh from tough

@@CJ-1413 I made the exact same decision
the angle of nathan's painting is so "i just turned around because i felt like something was watching me" and it's terrifying
oohh nice description! made the drawing cooler to me
"I thought something was there and then I looked and it was *so much worse than I imagined.* "
“I wanted to do Yubaba, because I think she’s just the cutest.”
It surprises me not at all to discover Karina liking and identifying with the villain of Spirited Away. Never forget: the knife is just below the screen.
its also funny that she didnt just say zeniba hahaha
Yubaba is also my favorite character from Spirited Away, she and her sister. They are the perfect amount of threatening and motherly at the same time, and the only character I can recall being kinda like that is the mom of the Babadook movie. This thrope reminds me of a mother and I love it
@@nothinginteresting7558 yes! I have nothing to add, I just agree immensely and needed to show there's more than two people who feel that way! just never heard others relate
sadly, no longer
This made me realize that Nathan drawing relatable webcomics for years was like the weighted shirt keeping him from his full power. This is true for all of them to some extent, but it's great to see how great his art is when he's just allowed to draw Cool Animals.
i noticed that since they went independent, his art has improved so much so the point where i saw people mistaking his art for julia's. it just shows how well an artist can improve their craft when they arent weighed down by rules and certain expectations.
God, Nathan's cat bus was so good? As a creature drawer, I just love it.
I can see EXACTLY how the cat bus would move, and the wobble of the bones on top. It looks so translatable into a 3d space, and I just LOVE IT!
The shake of a big step that jostles loose the crows momentarily, uneven gait, yet somehow lightning fast and smooth when it wants... idk, I see it too
When it turns towards your sound
“I just gave her more hands, that felt about right” -Karina
She has no idea how right she is
The fact that you can say "Damn, Caria Manor got hands..." 100% legitimately is always gonna be funny to me.
Nathan did a cat with lots of arms, Jacob did a girl with 4 arms and Karina did a witch with 4 arms...
I was so expecting Julia to do the old man from spirited away 😅

Not to be that guy... But I'm pretty sure that the R in Drawfee is silent.
@@IRJ53I it‘s spelled “drawfree” because the drawings are free
Yubaba is definitely the most Elden Ring character in Ghibli. She's got the weathered skin, extra limbs, grotesque proportions, ambiguous morality and authority, weaponized runes and the animal-human hybridization.
And the painterly style is definitely the right pick. People call Elden Ring's style "realistic" but it's really more painterly. It's often like walking through renaissance hagiography.
I wanna believe mechanically, the Cat Bus boss would act as a sorta fast travel system where you can get on the bus and follow it along the route, and if you choose to kill it, you lose a method of travel in favour of a new mobility option.
but you have to kill the ghostly commuters before going aboard
like the Last Stag in Hollow Knight?
the "I can't handle an other Luffy situation" I can't 😭😂
Hillary Duffy Luffy
I think there's a case to be made for both pronunciations for Luffy as well. I know phonetically in japanese it sounds more like "Loofy", but the spelling of "Luffy" suggests the "uh" sound instead.
We all know it's pronounced Dra-Wfae.
@@zetsubanned4308 "Luffing" (uh sound) is the term for the way a sail waves when the sheets (ropes) are too loose or the wind is at the wrong angle, so I would argue that that is how you would pronounce the name as well in english.

I feel like Nathan has grown so much as an artist since they left CH and I couldn't be happier for him
It's inspired me to work harder on improving my art, too.
this! i didn't know how to phrase it but yeah this!!
he was always an amazing artist but i feel like since going independent they’ve just had more freedom to really go ham on the art :D
"They're on their way to work, and their job is to beat your ass." Nathan stated so matter-of-factly. I died :D
4:48
Julia at the start of her drawing- "It was almost cheating to do Howl, but I was preoccupied, so I'll take this one"
Julia less than a minute later- "So, I had to learn how to do feathers for this"
Karina’s render is BEAUTIFUL oml. the lighting is just- UGH
karina has a way of making intricate character design and texture and light look completely effortless--her technical skill is so bonkers. It's a joy to watch her coax her pieces to life and then go even FURTHER. And it's like. yes she's a whiz at beautiful people but she also has the ability to make grotesquerie and contortion beautiful in their own right, and that's! art! baby!
I definitely understand every single word you just said with full confidence. And agree.
Her technique is so impressive. But what I love most about Karina is she still has her happiness and joy (about art) still about, which results in wonderful abominations such as Sonic fresh out the shower.
*mad bonkers

*mad HONKERS
Nathan: cuddly-looking, fun and sweet guy.
Also Nathan: *draws my paralysis demon in 8min flat*
Also got to love Karina asking the wolf-wolf question and you can sense the fireworks go off in her "uuuohhhhhh"
Not to mention Nathan consistency calling the cat buses legs “leggies”
This episode is turning me into an art gremlin - Nathan's mood, composition, and thoughtfulness about the character, Jacob's line work and the textures he can achieve with it, Karina's palette and choke hold understanding of light and value, and Julia. JULIA. I can only dream of doing a loose painting style that looks as legible and intentional as that. This is peak Drawfee speed draw right here

We must all pile on the Nathan love train. He always talks down about his art and its bullshit, frankly. Nathan has been absolutely DESTROYING these speed draws recently. The amount he has blossomed as an artist and really pushed himself to do things he isn't comfortable with is inspiring. I think the independence from company constraints and mutual support in the creation and approval of content has let him grow as an artist, it seems. Also, I love when Nathan is like "I know everyone struggles drawing a horse, so I'm gonna just bust one out from memory while also making jokes. Eat that, scrubs."
Also, also petition for Nathan's big book of lies series: dinosaurs, mythological creatures (like Nathan making up new ones like designing his own dragons, phoenix, etc), and animals (new, made up species).
Edit: Honk
😂 this explains SO. MUCH. I’ve been passing confused about why the creator of “spirited away” and “howls moving castle” (or his kid I guess) worked on Elden Ring, but I just shrugged and went “well, people can have varied interests” and went on with my life 😂
The message at the start translated: "please don't bully us, we are baby"

"You know when you name your twins the same name.." I literally used to date a guy who was a twin. His first/middle names were Vincent Scott and his twin's were Scott Vincent. To say it caused them issues with banking and credit rating etc is an understatement.

A friend of mine went to school with two identical twins both named Abdul. I'm sure that uh never got confusing
Why would the parents do this?😂 i'm glad it's outlawed in Hungary, to name your kids the same
That sounds like such a good way to facilitate your kids resenting each other and you 😅
Obviously not the same, but this reminded me of like my great uncle or something who really wanted his last kid to be a boy, but ended up with twin girls and they named them Geraldine and Donaldine. Wow, Nathan's could actually, viably be an _Elden Ring_ DLC addition, or something; a reskinned, special kind of Wandering Mausoleum that acts as a boss, especially since the Mausoleums already have the, "spawning smaller enemies," mechanic, and skeletons _definitely_ already exist in the game. We then have to climb into the carcass of the cat to grab the reward...fun!
should also be a special super secret side quest to get some kind of sardine treat that you can use for passage on the Cat Boss, like getting a bus ticket, and he takes you to a special zone or something with a unique weapon or armor piece or something.
Karina: I just figured I'd have her holding a little golden glowing scribbled name. No idea if this fits the aesthetic.
Actually Elden Ring: please scribble your name on the ground in glowing golden light to use multi-player.
The lore implications of Karina's Yubaba are horrifying... Imagine if using multiplayer in Elden Ring = giving her your true name. Forever in her service, never knowing rest. Her phase 2 could be a summon boss.
The absolute detail on the lighting of the Dark Soul inspired backgrounds is intense. It looks so good and glowy like something ethereal. I also really love Jacob’s breaking away from the mold of the others and doing the opposite of them. His Ghibli style looks really good. Great job to you all!

Thats, a huge departure from his regular process on the sketch, I love the result, you nailed it, my now favorite piece from Jacob... Nothing beats Space Shark though.
It's amazing how close Karina got to the singing bat ladies in Elden Ring without looking at direct reference for them.
For Howl's Moving Castle, another character that would fit incredibly well into Elden Ring is Madame Suleiman, with her "star children" magic.

Know I'm a whole episode late but that cat bus is giving me strong Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland vibes. Like I wouldn't be surprised if it verbally tried to point me in the right direction or if it just verbally threatened me. I'm obsessed with that cat, I would probably buy a poster of it if I could.
Dang, I am obsessed with the way Karina rendered Yubaba's face. Like the eyes and the lighting and the skin like wtf how did you get that so good :0
Nathan's bus cat is legit a good boss concept. It could work as one of the dark souls big ball things that push you out of the way/one shot you, but you can actually kill it. Sure, the places where you can fight it would have to be limited, because triggering a boss fight in a narrow corridor is not a great idea devwise
These speed draws always remind me of how much of an incredible artist Karina is. She’s consistently blows my mind
Not enough people are just screaming in awe so allow me: KARINA WHAT HOW WHEN WHERE WHY AAAAAAAAAA

Nathan's illustrations are so cool. Somebody should hire him to do the illustrations for the next d&d monster manual
The thing Karina described with Yubaba being semi-normal and then she turns into a big scary harpy lady is both absolutely spot on Elden Ring/Dark Souls-wise and also reminds me both of the Winged Misbegotton from Elden Ring and the Corvians from Dark Souls III so, she nailed it

I'm gonna use this comment to point out though that Blaidd isn't actually a wolf, he is indeed wearing a wolf head helmet, but he's like, effectively a werewolf who's barely keeping himself contained at all times (didn't want to comment this by itself because I don't want to bother them too much!!)

Nathan, you'll probably never see this, but this is among the greatest arts I've ever seen. It just brings me joy to see it in such a pure way.
I love how Drawfee takes a theme that can be potentially monotonous (adapt famously colorful characters into a dreary “edgy” style) and does something unique to their own interpretations.
Nathan’s looks like a nightmare creature you’d see in a creepy picture book, Jacob’s is a faithful style adaptation using cool coloring effects I’ll definitely keep in mind for my own work, Karina’s is an excellent mix of warm/matronly and monstrous, and Julia’s looks like studio-level concept art for a dark fantasy picture, with that pop of warm color doing so much to evoke the tone of obsession and loneliness. Wonderful work as always, guys!
You worded that way better than I could!!
Wild that you think the Elden ring art style can be simplified to “dreary and edgy” like what?? Have you ever actually played the games? There’s an immense amount of creativity and awesome character design as well as depth of lore. This episode is good because BOTH Miyazaki and Elden Ring are good properties with beautiful art, and the Drawfee hosts like both.
@@maddieb.4282 My original comment was not made with any intent to disparage the creative quality of Elden Ring; it was meant more as a cursory remark on the overall trend of style challenges that I’ve seen on RUclips and social media (outside of Drawfee). And while I’ve not played Elden Ring, I’ve seen a good amount of Jacob and Julia’s SSS VODs to know that the game is indeed quite beautiful and multi-layered.
I hope this clarifies what I meant with the original comment.
Another commented offering for the algorithm. Also I love, love, love that Howl. All the Ghibli films have this potential for a darker outcome, they're so beautiful by contrast, the light and airiness of them is enhanced by the darkness.
Elden Ring and other souls games have a feeling of the beauty existing within the darkness, as part of it, while Ghibli the beauty is despite it.
i wish i could like a comment multiple times because this so captures some thoughts i had that i couldn’t put to words :)
I love Nathan's cat-bus, its so warped and nasty and beautiful!! :)
And then, Jacobs sketch looks like finished lineart its so clean.
And Karina's is so well constructed it might as well be a castle.
Julia's story fits so well thematically and i love how her detailing turns a simple start into a super creepily detailed piece.
Okay the cat/skeleton bus character is genuinely a cool idea for Elden Ring, even with the mechanics as described. Knowing FromSoftware there'd also be some weird esoteric questline you can complete to be able to get inside the cat bus instead of fighting it and it would take you to an otherwise inaccessible secret area.
Karina did such a beautiful job from start to finish on her piece. So pretty 🥺
Nathan's painting reminds me of the horror illustrations I'd look at when i was little and wonder how a person could possibly develop enough skill to create them. Elden Ring Cat Bus owns this ass
i hear alot about Nathan's which I agree was amazing but Jacob's Ranni and Blaidd? AMAZING, I absolutely adore the style and feel and how the line blur really just, sealed the piece into being "Ghibli"
Wow Karina’s piece is incredible, the textures and lighting are crazy good
WE ARE OFF TO AN AMAZING START!!!!!! As a huge fan of Both studios this is my favorite thing ever! WOW!
18:50 karina's delivery of "he has such a good sɴᴏᴏᴛ" lives rent free in my head
