Such a nice resource for someone about to start, and as a guide for an aikido club which has been out of the habit of starting new students for the first months of covid19.
Clear step by step instructions, meeting three or four new friends and fellow students, relationship is the key to learning.
The head instructor sharing the role as guide helps teach the subtle lesson that we can all share knowledge together.
Also shows the culture of respect in the classroom, no negative rules yet, just caring offerings of positive instruction.
Teaching sub skills until the person is capable before moving on, so important for genuine feeling of success. Offering resources when they are about to be needed, excellent encouragement.
Practicing aikido and embodying aikido at the same time. All the things which build resilience in people are here!
Question left hanging- why does wearing the gi jacket with the wrong panel on top mean you are dead?
Thank you for the time you took to make such a wonderful resource!

During Japanese funerals, the corpse is clothed in a kimono with the right side over the left one. Also, the belt is tied vertically.

No, it's not supposed to. Just like your boxing will not work well in grappling, or against a good kicker. Different arts are meant for different ranges. Aikido is designed to prevent the need to box, as much as possible. The idea is to avoid, or accept and diffuse an attack. Techniques are designed especially for someone grabbing, or rushing in on you. If a situation escalates and you have no choice but to work in a close boxing range, then you will probably need to know striking or grappling. Or, try to use the Aikido footwork and techniques to get out of that range. Aikido is not for sport. The object is to not fight, but to de-escalate and avoid, if possible. It works best in the range where someone has to lunge in, in order to hit you. There are some techniques for the other ranges, but other arts are much better for those ranges.

I have never heard of him learning Aikido. I practice both Aikido and Muay Thai, in Thailand. Maybe he does? But his Fe mue style uses principles that are very similar to many Aikido principles, in general. Especially the way of using ranges, entering, angles and counter-attacks. There are a few great Muay Thai teachers here that cross-train in Aikido, actually. The arts seem so different, but blend together very nicely, and share many similarities too.
