Tried to install my Voodoo 2 graphics card in my Pentium 3 retro gaming PC .. It did not go as expected and I was told it's ok to cry 😢

I'm now curious to know if anyone in general back in the day forgot the 3dfx cards can't output on their own, and immediately assumed the card was faulty (which unfortunately the card actually was in this video).

I know of at least a couple of my rich friends at the time who didn't know that (had to help them as I was the computer guy at school).. It looked glorious on their 3dfx Voodoos while i scraped by on a S3 Virge

The Voodoo 2 can only display 3D graphics and not 2D stuff such as the desktop. It requires a passthrough from another 2D card in the system in order to display the desktop. If you have a Male to Female VGA cable that should do the trick.

Unfortunately the system simply doesn't boot with the voodoo 2 in, pass-through cable connected or not (I even tried to connect the monitor directly back to the ATI card while to voodoo was in, that theoretically should've shown something if the system was booting). I do have a separate pass-through cable on order just in case, but I think on some level capacitor soldering will be in the future if this card is to live again
