Man that period in PC gaming 1998-2000 was like magic to me. I dreamed games at night that i played during the day. After those years i have never felt the same excitement from PC technology or games.
In many ways i feel the same way. Could see Starcraft gameplay when i closed my eyes, waiting for the school bus😂 Still enjoy modern hardware and games, but its not the same. Thanks for the comment!
I feel the same way. 1997-2003 was an unforgettable time for me. What I felt emotionally during the further development of the pc hardware and the games has so far remained unmatched for me. For me, this exciting and at the same time happy feeling was and is hardly comparable to today's developments.
100% agree. 1997 to 2003 was magic. The next time I would feel similarly was when crisis came out. I thought we were seeing something way ahead of its time. Which we were. The next form of magic for me probably came when I bought my Oculus rift s and experienced half-life Alex and beat saber.

I don't remember what i ate in the morning but i remember my first girl, Pentium 3 500 mhz 32 mb ram, 3dfx voodoo 3 3000 16 mb agp, 3 gb hard drive, dvd drive 8x read 4x write, 52 k modem, 2001, oh man, for a brief period I was one of the cool guys in the classroom, I could pretty much play all the games at full graphics. Damn...
Great, now re-build it inside a beige case so that it looks right! I'm doing the same thing right now. Two years ago I built a 1.4GHz P3 Tualatin rig with a Voodoo 5 inside a mostly-modern black Thermaltake case - and it looks good... but it doesn't look "right." I've kept it in a closet while my nice beige machines are on-display for daily use in the living room. Time for this machine to join them!
I’m here because Of the recommended page. I’m so happy that I Could discover this channel. Very nice build ! One remark is that you could use the second stick of ram for a dual channel performance, but still very nice build. 3dfx lives on !
This board do not support dual channel memory, and 256 mb is more than this pc needs😊 Thanks for the comment! Happy to see you enjoyed the video😁 Cheers
I wonder what happened to my first PC I built myself a p3 1ghz, i think i had a matrox millenium paired with a voodoo 2 and soundblaster live withbthe same drive and a slot loader pioneer drive in a faux apple looking bubble case in royal blue. I wish I still had it.
Hey Paul I am also trying to do a voodoo 3 windows 98 retro gaming build. I am at the stage where I just want to go back to retro gaming again. Today's tech does not inspire me. Its very expensive. I just need to assemble it. Unreal runs like a dream :)
Hi! Good luck on your build! Its a nice feeling putting together a retro system and see it running old games again. Some of the best games ever (in my opinion) came out between 1993-94 to about 2000. A system like this can play all of them natively👍
Sir, I have a question about building a retro PC quite similar to the one in this video My spec. is:- CPU: Pentium !!! 1.0GHz (PGA370) / mobo: Soltek SL-65FV+ (VIA Apollo Pro 133) / RAM: Kingston PC-133 2x64Mb HDD: emulated 4Gb SD card -> IDE40 VGA: Voodoo 3 3000 AGP Sound: Sound Blaster 16 CT1770 (blank socket) with 4Mb dream wavetable (unlicensed Roland GM samples) OS: Windows 98 SE My problem is With Voodoo 3 3000 AGP as VGA, my PC won't boot; is frozen after the POST screen or Voodoo BIOS. And with Voodoo 3 1000 AGP as alternative, my PC boots and works for a a little while (I can play OpenGL games shortly) then it always freezes.I tried installing cooling fans for both Voodoo 3 cards but nothing changes. I can never make this configuration work for long time, especially when OpenGL is working. And system occasionally freezes before OS boots. I also have 2 Voodoo 1 cards; 1 Diamond Monster 3D, 1 APAC Voodoo. With ATI Rage II PCI or SiS 6326 as VGA, Monster 3D freezes the system to black screen when starting a DOS Voodoo game while APAC just garbles the screen and crashes. My question is, is my system is too fast for both Voodoo 3 ? or it is the incompatibility of the mobo that had caused the problems. I can blame the speed for Voodoo 1. But I have no idea why both Voodoo 3 cards won't work.
My first PC was this exactly with an 8gb Hard Drive... Came with Unreal, and Total Annihilation. ^_^ Do you have credits for the music you used here? Really loved those first few tracks a lot.
@@paulp9270 I didn't see the 3dfx splash screen when you launched Unreal lol, i was really joking around. Thanks for showing us the machines and tech from the late 90s. I had that card with an AMD K-6 333 then i moved to AMD Athlon 2600+. Then upgraded to a Geforce 256 DDR. That was the last time i brought a Voodoo Card. Had 3 or 4 of them if you count the V3 2000 pci i got for my old K6 so that friends could come over a play COD and Half-Life mods. (CS, DOD, and others).

98-99-2000 are legend years for pc gaming.I miss too much.
I put a 3dfx Voodoo 2 in the first gaming PC I ever built, and eventually upgraded to the Voodoo 3.
That's the computer I would sacrifice a year of life expectancy for when I was 15 😂
Haha, me too😂 I had an amd k6-2 500 MHz and a riva tnt 2 at the time😌
@@paulp9270 Celeron 366 and Intel 810 chipset graphics. Not amazing but still much better than 200mmx and s3 ViRGE from my first computer haha

A shame they don't make the old school beige cases any more to match your drives. Nice idea with using the SD card adapter. Good job!
I was thinking of a white matx case, then spray it beige but not many have bays needed. Though I could fake it by printing high res stickers.
Your ninja editing skills made me think there was no thermal paste applied 3:14
Thanks for the trip down memory lane dude
Thanks RUclips algorithm, for bringing memories I didn’t even have. Nice video!!

I don't think dual channel was a thing for sdr boards. I think it happened in ddr times. 2000 or so?
This board do not support dual channel memory, and 256 mb is more than this pc needs😊 Thanks for the comment! Happy to see you enjoyed the video😁 Cheers
I did a pentium 3 geforce 2 mx 400 pc
I still have my Pentium 3 pc. It was fast for Counter Strike. With the Gforce 3 TI500. 128 Mb of ram. 400 Watt PS. 17" Viewsonic CRT flat screen.
Nice build - if only the faceplates on the DVD and SB drives were black, it'd be perfect.
The period when I had my Celeron 300A... 🥰
I got the same exact cpu and video card but instead using a Via133pro chipset board and Awe32 sound card. Definitely an OP very compatible setup
I'd be more jealous if someone showed me their retro PC build instead of the generic rainbow stuff (sadly I am also one of them)......
Excellent retro system. Like!
Nice build. I use the same case for one of my retro PCs...its getting harder to find cases with drive bay slots 😅
Cool build, but Unreal Tournament > Quake 3, lol.
oh purr
I wish they would sell CPUs that aren't lidded again.
Great video! Love the hardware

Add the Ram up to 2GB SDRAM or 3GB
Nice Can you tested live drive II, I have first version
Lol i have almost same config: 1GHzPIII,256MB ram,VOODOO3 3000, 80GB 7,2kRpm,WinME. I put my fan directly on the GPU.
I have the same 3dfx like you, but motor cross madness 2 couldnt play on my pc, it says no 3d graphic detected?
256mb of sdram is too slow to run applications or to open files

what would be the system you would buy in 93-94 if money was no obstacle? writing a do over story and there no stuff for this
