      True. Sissy Spacek has true “outcast” vibes in her portrayal of Carrie White. I felt Chloe Grace Mortez was too focused on making pouty faces and was like “I’m AcTiNg!!”

      I was disappointed that it didn't follow the book more. If it really wanted to follow the book, Carrie should have destroyed the whole town, not just the school.

      No, it did NOT follow the book. It was a remake of the DePalma movie's script. The book is a LOT different - for instance, Carrie kills everyone at the prom and then destroys the entire town too.

      There was a made-for-TV remake of Carrie in 2002. That one is actually really good, especially for being made for TV. Angela Bettis was a fantastic Carrie and the acting is much better than original. The special effects were hit-and-miss though.

    I would have to say the worst remake is the tedious and unwatchable 1999 remake of of the near-perfect "The Haunting" (1963).

      Completely agree about this dreadful rehash(emphasis on hash). When the film began ,people were talking and i asked them to hush. Ten minutes further into it and i almost missed their discussion about where they were going to have dinner. The subtlety of Wise's classic were completely ignored for CGI effects.

      Exactly, Tony Tornado! I thought Quarantine was at least decent. The only terrifying thing about the movie is just how realistic gene editing can turn one of the most horrifying viruses known to man from having a fairly long window to get treated and cured from to almost immediate rabid Rabies victim. I wish the doomsday cult found out about near the end of the first movie was elaborated on more. It takes alot of balls to bring about the apocalypse you so desire to bring about too.

      I first watched it on VHS when I was 4. Absolutely scared the hell out of me. That damn clown doll may have contributed to my severe caulrophobia. I’m 39 now and I can’t deal with clowns.

      I watched it when I was about 7 coz my big bro was baby sitting me. N i just remember the clown freaking me out completely as I had a toy clown very similar same clothes at least n it sat in my bed. That night I wouldn't climb the stairs. I think I threw it out the window the next day

    Pet Semetary just wasn't that scary to me, but you know what scary movie remake actually lived up to the hype? It! Can't wait for part 2! As for Carrie I guess it didn't need a remake, but I actually like the remake mostly for the prom scene. It was pure chaos and Carrie with her powers crushing everybody around her looked like a dark jean grey from the x-men with the newer visuals.

      The Netflix remake series The Haunting Of Hill House is amazing! I actually liked the 1999 The Haunting though, even if the story was completely changed.

    Boy do I disagree about Quarantine. The remake is essentially the same movie as the original (which makes it just as good) except that the explanation for the occurrence thousand times better in the remake making the remake a thousand times better than the original.

      The point is not be similar ou different from the source material, It has to have the soul from the source material, imagine a Rambo movie that instead of focuses in how ex-soldiers were treated like bad persons when they returned with that monologue from Rambo itself in the ending that clarify the things better, the remake of Rambo would be about cold blood murder who wants to kill just because.
      It's the same, you can made a shot for shot or change the complete history but without the themes and soul from the original, your remake is fucked from the start.

      Wrong. Pet Sematary is fucking awful. They completely ruined the source material and spoiled every single thing they changed in the shitty trailer. The source material is a masterpiece of psychological trauma and they opted for cheap cliches and shit jumpscares. The masks the kids wear are also stupid and don't belong anywhere near the Pet Sematary name. It's just awful.

      Quarantine isn´t bad, but is just a copy-paste of the spanish movie REC, that is allready great. Same as Vanilla Sky, that is a good movie but is just a copy of the spanish movie "Abre los Ojos" (open your eyes). In Spain we just translate american movies to spanish, we don´t need to shoot them again and re-sell them as new ideas.

      @@LnPPersonified I'm not saying it was horrid. I'll save that for Quarantined 2 😁 all in all it was a good film but I find it hard to call a remake. It's almost a shot for shot of the original. It seemed made for people who don't like subtitles. I hate this with American attempts at Asian horror. Although I wish they would follow Quarantine steps and actually follow the original and not thier own ideas. One reason why I thinki really prefer Rec is that I don't know any of the cast so it seems more real.

      When the last time you've seen it? It's pretty tame. It's rated PG, though I think that's before pg-13 was a thing. It's kid-scary, to me.

    Night of the Demons (1988) is far better than 2009's remake.
    On the other hand, my favourite remake is 13 Ghosts.

    I actually liked the Carrie remake a lot. We saw a bit more of Carrie's family and later her telekinetic abilities. All while staying true to the book and original movie.

      Michael Bay did Jason Voorhees justice, and managed to produce a live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that featured Bebop and Rocksteady along with Shredder and Krang.
      TransFormers OTOH relatively sucked though when compared to the source material. I'll give you that.

      I just feel like people confuse nostalgia with content. Just because something originated first doesn’t make it superior in any way, I personally think Freddy in the remake was creepier and the remake of Carrie I think although Chloe wasn’t a “unique beauty” and very beautiful, I felt like she did justice to the role in her conviction of character. Not saying the remakes were better, but I feel like they were good in their own right and should not be on this list

      Yeah, I know Stephen King like's that the Shining's 'made for TV' remake was closer to his vision, but it was kind of boring and definitely not scary. ...I guess that's why writers write and directors direct.

      Ummm there was a Pet Sematary movie in the 80s so in that respect the new Pet Semetary is a remake. Both films are based on the original novel by Stephen King.

      It was never about that. It was a movie making experiment in studying a movie to se if you can remake it shot for shot and people reaction to watching it. They wanted fans of the original to watch it and discuss it. The only reason they released it commercially was to get some of the movie back and it just broke even.

    I never bothered to see the American remake of Martyrs. The French original is a hand grenade going off in the place where your soul used to be. It's brilliant, if you can endure it. I can't imagine watching a sanitized version.

    To be fair Jackie Earl Haley was a fine Freddy. The best part of that shitstorm of a movie. People just couldn't get past that it wasn't Robert Englund.

And again just because the makeup was awful doesn't take away from the actors portrayal of the character itself he didn't pick the makeup.       Interesting fact: Jackie Earl Haley auditioned for the original with his friend Johnny Depp. Depp got cast, Haley did not. Until 20 years later, where Jackie Earl Haley was cast as Freddy.

      True, but the Dawn of the Dead remake with Ving Rhames was top notch.....The Fog remake was definitely terrible and that was made right in the middle of Tom Welling's run as Clark Kent on Smallville, so I was even more disappointed

    - I like the elm street remake specifically for the fact we get more of a Freddy origin story. However all together it doesn’t feel like a Elm Street movie.
    -Quarantine was a decent remake.
    - Cabin Fever was a literal remake. Which made it a good watch.
    - Carrie remake was JUST as good as the original. PERIODT. Chloe was Sissy Spacek.

    There is a theory that Gus Van Sant knew exactly what he was doing by remaking Psycho in that he was showing the pointlessness of remakes by making the most pointless remake he could.
    I prefer that theory over one where he thinks it’s a good idea.

      I love When A Stranger Calls. I think Camilla Belle falters in it at points but realistically she carries the whole movie and was a young actress at the time. But it was thrilling and the last shot of the caller still freaks me out.

    Carrie is one of my - if not THE - favorite movie of all time. That said, I actually enjoyed the remake. The cyberbullying added a whole new level; making Margaret slightly sympathetic softened her madness; and they got to add the boulders! While I could have done without DGM's odd snake-like movements, the rest of the movie was just fine. Not great, but not bad.

    Not a remake, but I hated Scream 4. Scream 3 ended the story soooo well. I was so mad they tried to reboot it all those years later. The movie just sucked too.

      I agree! Also like the original versions of most of them (Pet Sematary 1988 was pretty bad), but I thought they made interesting choices that gave it a different spin. That said, I also like the 2009 Friday the 13th more than the original.

    Hollywood should have learned by now, no way can you take an original and think, either by changing it or copying it, that grand idea will succeed. You stated The Fly was an exception to this rule, but no, the original had the suspense needed to make it work. Originals are pretty much made for that time period. Remakes are just another way Hollywood (movie industry) says that they are out of original ideas.
